Lots, and I mean lots, of guys who "analyze draft prospects for a living" didn't give Josh Allen a round 1 grade. Joe Marino, who prides himself as a draft guru, had Allen as QB8, behind such luminaries as Kyle Lauletta and Mason Rudolph, not to mention Josh Rosen. Draft experts are spectacularly wrong all the time, especially when it comes to QBs.

Yes. That was even worse. They literally just decided to change the rule in the middle of a playoff game. There was a very good thread on this at the time. It should have been ruled a safety.

Agreements not to cooperate with the authorities or to refuse to testify at trial or in a deposition are not legally enforceable. Any other plaintiff could subpoena one of the women who settled with Watson and that woman would have to testify in a deposition or at trial, or be held in contempt of court and potentially go to jail. That's why nondisclosure agreements typically have an exception for disclosure that is compelled by legal process.

Yeah, I agree that it's too early to completely write the guy off, but Miami was reportedly considered a frontrunner to trade for Watson (when that was considered feasible) and were also rumored to be at least thinking about taking a QB at 3, although that's now off the table of course. It will be interesting to see if they invest a second or third rounder in a QB in this year's draft.

No, people are harsh on Tua because he doesn't seem to have what it takes to be a star QB in the league. He does not look like he can make all the throws, and not much of a running threat, not to mention questions about his mental toughness. And his supporting cast was just fine, certainly far superior to what JA had to work with his first two years. The Dolphins said repeatedly that he was fully recovered from his injury. If he wasn't, then he should not have played. No way they take Lance that high. He's barely played in the past year and he's played only one year of 1-AA ball. Way too risky at that spot.

I'm pretty sure one of the Tide WRs this year (Devonta Smith, I think) said that Jones is definitely a better QB than Tua. Chris Simms has also said that Jones's tape is much better than Tua's.

I know, the situations weren't comparable from that standpoint, but after that incident, Woods clearly lost the huge psychological advantage he had over the rest of the PGA. His aura of invulnerability was shattered, gone for good. I think the same will be true of Watson, even though he clearly isn't the dominant figure Woods was in his sport.

I agree that these huge trade-ups (multiple first round picks) to move up for a QB rarely work out, but the fact that some expert "consensus" has Jones ranked as the 30th best player is pretty meaningless. I mean, Tua was ranked in the top three or four by lots of experts last year and it's pretty clear he should not have been taken in the first round. And of course the "consensus" on JA would have had him as QB4 or 5. I have a pretty high level of confidence in Shanahan and the Niners when it comes to these sorts of evaluations. They have drafted very well lately...

Ridiculous. Josh Allen shined very early on, despite his weak supporting cast. This past year his supporting cast was much better, but he also raised their games. Diggs and Beasley, for example, never before had seasons like they had in 2020.

You're right. I'm just bitter about the Oliver pick because I thought he was terribly over-rated coming out of Houston. I watched a few of their games his last year and he was pretty much invisible. I never understood the hype.

No one’s asking Oliver to “carry a defense on his back”. It would be nice if he made a game-changing play every now and then though. Or maybe even got a sack. Or even a pressure. We were told he was the kind of interior defender who was going to collapse the pocket and get after the passer. So far, he’s JAG.

You may be right, but the 9th overall pick (in a very good draft) shouldn’t need help from another defensive player in order to “shine”.

I think this is probably correct—he’ll get a chance to play again, barring a significant criminal conviction. But I doubt he’ll ever be the same. Watson’s aura of greatness has been shattered and he’s at best a laughingstock now. We don’t know how this is going to play out yet, but I think Tiger Woods after the 2008 incident is probably the best sports analogy.

His teammates don’t know the facts. Anyone who comes out in support of Watson right now is taking a huge leap of faith and runs the risk that they will look really bad if Watson turns out to be a mini Jeffrey Epstein...

Exactly. It was easy for fans and teammates to believe Kobe over his one accuser...this is completely different. It's looking like we are talking about a serial sex offender...

I'm starting to think this guy's career is over. If there were some sort of exculpating evidence or any kind of innocent explanation for what's happening, we would have heard it by now. Whatever happens to him from a legal perspective, it's pretty obvious that Watson is a deviant MFer. I can't see any NFL team wanting anything to do with him.

If I had to guess, i would say it was because the owner didn't want to fire Gase after only one season and told Douglas he couldn't fire him.
