  1. It really is too bad that HGH testing will come into place about 10 to 15 years too late for the Pats*, I mean where else did seemingly over the hill/washed up vets go and suddenly seem to regain a step or two? Think of Dillon, Moss, Harrison, Seau, Fred Taylor, Brian Waters, among others over the years, and that's not including their own guys who seemed to play better than their age, like Troy Brown, demi-god Bruschi, Vrabel (came when he was younger and played LB into his mid-30's without doing an Eddie Robinson) and McGinest. I remember a couple of years ago looking up NFL RBs of note over 32 and the Pats* had 3 (Taylor, Brown and Sammy Morris) of 5 total in the League....
  2. Anyone know his contract status? I believe he played 3 years in Indy and most 1st rounders have 5 year front loaded deals, so hopefully we have him this year and next at a reasonable price....
  3. I went to the Bills-Fins game that year, where we lost 17-0, I believe, same score as our drubbing by the Johnny U-led Colts the year before, which was my first Bills game. It took me 3 years to see the Bills score a point when we beat Chicago (with Butkus) the next season. Should have realized the long haul I was in for then.....
  4. As a Columbia alum I can vouch for that part. In fact, there was a "Sorrel Booke Suite" in one of the dorms back in the day....
  5. No McKelvin either while you're at it....
  6. Question--we were missing 4 starters (SJ, Chandler, Byrd and McK); anyone know if the Colts were missing any?
  7. If that's the case, he's gone....
  8. Not sure if mentioned above, but I recall the announcers also saying that due to injuries in camp, the Iggles had not done ANY live tackling drills yet in camp, which might explain some rust. Love the analysis, BTW--as others have noted, I learn more from these posts than the jokers on TV.....
  9. Plus one on the fair refs for a change. The Cheats* O looked like it didn't miss a beat last night despite the personnel changes at WR. Would be nice to beat them, but may still be a tall order....
  10. Interesting Photo Essay showing players with their (or others') friends, including one of Dareus with Moats' daughter. Puts a bit of a more human face on the game (at least for me)..... http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323514404578652182526101480.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_PhotosModule_1#slide/1
  11. Crap--I was really hoping that we'd sign him (particularly after we cut Mark Anderson--his money due this year would have covered Moore most likely).....
  12. You and Astro are my heroes of the day today! Thanks for the reporting. Hope you enjoyed the scrimmage!
  13. For those who haven't had the chance to read it yet, I highly recommend Art's book "Fatso"--great anecdote after great anecdote. You will be missed, Mr. Donovan, may you rest in peace....
  14. I'll be watching Dion Jordan of Miami tonight, too. I'm nearly schoolgirl giddy that football (even if only preseason) is coming back tonight.....
  15. As the guy who said it, I agree wholeheartedly! He needs the time with EJ to get their timing and communication down, so missing any time at all is not good. Obviously better than a blown knee, but still not good....
  16. As per PFT, looks like Stevie may miss most of the preseason (and valuable time getting in sync with EJ)....
  17. As I just asked in another thread, where are we in terms of "cash to cap"? Does anyone know?
  18. Many thanks--what I'd be curious about is where we are in terms of "cash to cap", particularly after cutting Anderson. If we have any "cap" room under that metric, I don't quite know why they're not reaching out to someone like Brandon Moore to man the LG spot. Seems to me that we could step up our offensive potential immeasurably by shoring up that potential glaring weakness. If we signed Moore, and he can play to form at 33 (OL can often play into their mid-30's effectively--see Brian Waters with the Pats* two years ago), we'd be pretty solid across our front, and have some depth. Here's to hoping....
  19. I agree that that game was great back in the day, until Fairport just got too big and started mauling us. My junior year was the last year ER won the jug, but before that we did a pretty good job regularly beating a school (and many others like it) that were at least 3-4 times our size. Great battles between Don Quinn (our coach) and Coach Santini of Fairport. Epic stuff, and epic antics off the field as well (my buddies and I started the "LIttle Brown Mug" game, a touch game organized by the schools' student councils, our Senior year, for ex.). Someone should make a movie out it. If you know Phillip Seymour Hoffman (a Fairport alum), tell him you have a script for him!
  20. I don't see him lasting til October. Over/under on him landing on IR is Week 3, and can't much say that I'll care when it happens.....
  21. That made me (an ER guy) just about spit up (and post)--I remember Thirsty's fairly well from my youth (Thursday night's in the summers I was back home), but spent more time down on the ER bar strip, not too surprisingly. Even more so since one of my best friends' godfather was(and still is) the owner of PG's back when they had quarter drafts and 10 cent wings on Monday nights and lines half a block long to get in. My, how things have changed....
  22. When Spygate came out, they were accused of more than simply Spygate. Go back and read the NYT article from May of that year that (anonymously) quoted multiple members of the NFL's Competition Committee saying that it was one team over and over again brought before them on a number of charges--the Pats*. My take is that you have an owner and HC who will do anything to win and who are much more willing to approach (and at times, cross) the line than any other franchise in the League....
  23. I live in lower Westchester and caught the Texans game at the Wicked Wolf last year (post-Sandy, no power at home). Good place with good Bills fans....
  24. And there I was, thinking I was the only one who'd (a) made that transformation in views on the Pats* since that first SB and (b) wanted real payback in terms of one or (preferably) more 56-0 wins against them. Other than the parts about where you watched that game, I could have written this post word for word!
