This thing, Obamacare, is full of surprises. I've recently seen some that we can look forward to in the coming 15 months or so. Huge rate increases is only the start. How about the fact (at least here in Illinois) that employers will now see the individual cost to insure each employee and that the rates for older employees are 3X that of younger employees and since companies over 50 employees have to pick up most of the tab, what do you think that does for the hiring of older people? Up until now we were only given the average cost per employee. Now we see the individual cost based on age and other risk factors.

welfare versus minimum wage

It might. It also creates debt and dependency. As long as there is an endless pot of money and we can continue to print and borrow and have no regard for our debt then it's a terrific idea to give people who want more whatever they desire. Heck, I don't see why we don't ratchet up the borrowing by 50x and really get this economy humming. Show the world how it's done. -
Terrific guy and probably the best punter ever in Buffalo. Wish him the very best in his future.

Gov't Shutdown...How Will We Know?

Actually it is a conspiracy. Much of the media conspire to criticize any political position that promotes typical conservative and libertarian views and they don't even hide the effort. -

Kolb may be done forever or is only 1 hit in the head away from that. He's certainly having more than his share of bad luck. JP Losman is out there somewhere. -
Who's job is it to feed the world?
keepthefaith replied to 600cc's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yes and this is further support that excess CO2 is a good thing. We need it to feed plants. What liberals can't see is how well mother nature can take care of us. Burn coal and oil which will generate more CO2 to feed plants while the increased temperature melts icecaps and increases the water supply. We're !@#$ed when we run out of coal and oil because this will starve vegetation and likely put us into another ice age cycle. -

What this says to me is that burning oil and natural gas for transportation is good as it doesn't rob from the supply of food. With the demand for water also rising, it dawned on me that melting icecaps due to global warming is also a good thing. We're gonna need the oceans more for our water supply in the future so a rise in the water level will be nicely offset by consumption meaning the beaches should stay about right where they are now if my calculations are correct. Can't do it. If they dig in the soil there, oil appears. -
Hillary-always a scandal in Clinton land

I don't agree with a darned thing that she represents but I do think she's intelligent and usually presents herself pretty well. -

Her appeal? She's liberal which gets her a big piece of the voting pie. The media has almost always reported her in only a favorable light and protected her when she deserved criticism. She's intelligent and composed. She's built a political resume since Bill was president. Women are more likely to vote democrat and of course love the idea of a woman Pres. She will be a very tough political opponent with the Clinton political machine behind her. Liberal vote + women vote + some of the independent vote + many low information voters = a really good chance of winning. -

The penalty might be correct. There are rules regarding making estimated tax payments for non W2 income and any tax accountant should understand the rules and could review it for you. If you will have similar income this year, making the correct estimated payments is a wise thing to do. -
Only the majority of the media is keeping the majority of Americans from seeing what a dismal presidency we are experiencing.

More and more often I think that splitting the nation into 2 is a good idea. The gun control, open border, anti-war wealth redistibutionists into one. Those the believe more in our existing constitution and in the principles of our founders in the other. There would still be plenty of room for 2 or more political parties in each nation. I really don't see a way to bridge the canyon that separates the competing ideologies. We really are on a slow path to suicide in this nation.

Much of the media and activists have chosen to completely ignore that 6 people heard weeks of testimony and facts, deliberated for more than 12 hours and rendered a decision based on the law.

With college so expensive, it would seem that there would be a marketplace for a private university that can educate students at a much lower cost. Focus on commuters and a lean staff and cutout a lot of the expenses. Hire business people as professors and have a robust partnership with local companies who might hire graduates. The Illinois in state system is poorly designed with most of the schools being in the middle of nowhere which means most students have to live on campus which is expensive. Not everyone needs or can afford the "college experience" of being away at a fancy school. There is a huge gap between the community colleges and the big universities in this area that needs to be filled. Reduce the cost and reduce what people have to borrow.
