1. I know our boy Freddy is up there with TD, Chris Watson, and Coy Wire on the Stadium Wall whipping post, but I heard him this morning on WGR (he will be on every Friday AM at 7:25.)  He was actually not too bad...I was expecting much worse because the Bills are coming off a loss to his Patriots.  His best comments-

-We all questioned the Bills ability to stop the run, and apparently the Pats did too, which is why they only activated 3 WRs, and continued to hammer the two horses.

-The Bills are not a great team, but are certainly not a horrible team.  He agreed with the 4th down call to go for it, because when you are middle-of-the-road in the NFL, sometimes you have to throw caution to the wind to win games.  He said everyone and their mother knew McGahee was coming...He didn't disagree, you have to ride your best player, but he also said a bootleg or a play-action would've had the over-persuing Pats defense scrambling.

-He was impressed with Losman, and said he played better than 10 offensive points.  The big issue is after he took that safety- does he go into the dumps and take all the blame, or does he pick up, move forward, and get better?

-He said Belichick went for it on two 4th downs because, as Smerlas put it, "The Bills have a QB who can throw the ball 80 yards, and receivers who can get out there at catch it, so they knew if the Bills got the ball back they were in the game."

-The Bills run defense will continue to be a question mark.  There's not one player who is going to come in and change that.  But the best way to combat that is to score more points on offense.  If you can continue to lead by 8, 10, 14 points, the other team is eventually going to have to start throwing.

-He was very impressed with the speed of the Bills D-Line, and their ability to get to Brady, which they always had trouble doing in the past.

-He picks the Bills to win a close one this weekend over Miami, who he calls "yet again the most overrated team in the NFL."

I know I am in the minority here, but I always really liked Smerlas. I even have a Smerlas jersey.

  2. What about:  than vs. then / effect vs. affect

These two are abused like a red headed step-child.  I'm forgetting(sp.) some major ones.  I'll get back.

Is anyone else annoyed when people use the phrase "I could care less" (meaning you do care about the issue since you could care even less). The proper phrase is "I COULDN'T care less".

  3. ok, so i have a 92 Plymouth Voyager, approaching 195000 miles so needless to say i do not want to sink a penny into it.  I am having problems with my windsheild wipers.  when I turn them on, it turns off the clock on the factory installed radio, and the wipers will not wipe.  eventually they will all come back on and work fine.  So I figure it is a fuse problem or maybe a short.  But the wierd part of it is this.  This happens when the engine is turned on.  If I turn the key the other way, you know to turn the batter on(or whatever you want to call it when you turn the key the opposite way)., everything works just fine.  Anyone have any thoughts?  I have discovered that Rain-ex is a brilliant product so to date it has not been too bad a problem, but I want to make it another 5000 miles or so before getting another car.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Buy some Rain-X.

  4. The Republicans have had almost 8 years of unbridled power in the White House and legislative branches.  We went from peace, prosperity and a respected place in the world to being pretty much a pariah, war, and at atmosphere where people hate and fear those, in our own country, who differ from us.  So much for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I'd vote for Mr. Ed if he could turn it around.  He'd dead, but would be an improvement against most politicians today.  I used to like McCain but in selling out to his party he's become more despicable than most.  Yuck.  Just thinking about it makes me feel unclean.

I can't believe someone with Bono as an avatar would complain about the US being a horrible place! What, you couldn't find a Soros picture?

  5. I was waiting for someone to post this kind of response as soon as I heard his Mother died and it seemed like he wasn't going to come back in a day or two.

My Mom passed away a month ago almost to the day.  It was all I could do to hold myself together for the plane ride home and the subsequent days.  Needless to say it was the hardest thing I have ever gone through - and I still find it difficult to get through parts of the day.  Sometimes I think the pain will never go away.

How dare you or anyone else judge how someone should respond to the death of a loved one - especially a Mother, for which for many will be the most anguished, personal grief they will ever know.

    Stick to commenting about football.

So my company giving only a few days of bereavement per family member death is insensitive? Many people don't have the option to take weeks off to grieve. It's not that the employers aren't sensitive, but life and business must go on.

  6. I do not have the link

John Kerry was in IOWA this summer at an outdoor function and barbeque.

A resident asked sen. Kerry if Bush was here what would you discuss with him?

John Kerry turned around and walked over to a shrub and started having a talk

    754849

Unfortunately the shrub won the debate and forced Kerry to resort to name calling!

  7. Let's see...

HE said: If you are against animal testing, then you and your family should never be able to reap any benefits thereof forever and ever.

I said: If you support animal testing, then live with the consequences, bad included, thereof.

    754979

I'll explain the differences for you. I realize and accept that some animal testing may be flawed or incorrect, but accept that possibility due to the numerous gains made in medicine due to animal testing. I don't blindly support ALL animal testing no matter what the logic behind it is. An animal rights activist does not accept any animal testing no matter what the results are. They blindly discount ALL animal testing.

  8. Merriam/Webster could take your post and put it in the dictionary next to several terms:

    "sour grapes"

    "envy"

    "racism?"

Tiger is the best golfer of his generation, and works damn hard for everything he is "handed."  We should all be sitting back and marveling at what we are witnessing, because for generations to come everyone will be comparing the next "hotshot" golfer to Tiger Woods.

    753569

Please explain to me how you got "racism" from his post? I guess if you are white you can never say anything bad about someone who is black? Brilliant!

  9. To suggest that all animal experimentation is beneficial to mankind is as simplistic as saying that none of it is. The reality is that there is pervasive abuse (which is not surprising given the multiple millions of dollars involved). Many experiments on animals are totally useless (repetitive, redundant or tell us what we already know) and outrageously expensive. Some experimentation actually prevents medical and scientific advancement because it focuses on one ( some say "outdated") model of research.

While some animal rights activists are indeed "loonies" it does not alter the fact that there are widespread abuses and that there are sound scientific arguments against animal experimentation as it relates to advances in human medicine.

    753753

Where in my post did I state that ALL animal experimentation is beneficial. I'm sure out of the millions of experiments you could find something that is questionable. The main point I was getting at is that the amount of hypocrisy among animal rights groups is astounding. If you are anti-animal testing, do not accept any medical care that is a result of animal testing. If you are not prepared to die as a result of your crusade, don't expect others to die for beliefs that they do not share. The eco-terrorists that are funded by groups like PETA are willing to sacrifice your life and your families life in order to save some animals. I wonder if you could sit back and watch your child die because animal testing is banned? Would you still send in your donation to the WWF and Humane Society of America?

  10. PCRM is not an excellent resource for information.  They're a front for PETA - not just "affiliated with", but actually run by PETA - intended solely to promote and advance PETA's platform.

    753448

I was watching "Penn and Teller Bullsh**" a while back and they did a special on animal rights looneys. The VP of PETA was diabetic and used insulin to stay alive. Insulin is only available due to animal research! When called out on it, she said something along the lines of "she needs to stay alive to help the animals"...But you or your family member should die if the cure required animal research. Peta also kills a higher percentage of the rescued pets they take in than nearly all shelters that they terrorize for euthanizing animals. Peta and their affiliates are a huge threat to society and should be hunted down like a delicious deer and put out of business.

If we aren't supposed to eat animals, why are they made of meat?

  11. I think the family got rid of the cat voluntarily (i don't think there was any law involved), but I could be wrong.

Regardless, there is no indication the boy has shown any disrespect for, or has disobeyed ANY law.  He is simply "meow"-ing at a nasty old litigious bag.  The very fact that she has sued him for MEWOING speaks volumes to The Dean.

You don't know what the kid has been doing to her. It's not like an old lady can physically take care of this herself. Without knowing what goes on between the nieghbors, it is pretty irresponsible to call her a B word! I've seen many little kids take advantage of the fact that someone older cannot simply slap some sense into them. Perhaps she is a B word, perhaps the kid is a disrespectfull brat.

  12. That makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that it was scheduled locally six months ago. The NFL Network should've known this and must check it for all of their rebroadcast games, if that's indeed the rule and you're probably right. Why would they have told service providers and TV Guides and other places that it will be shown Saturday at 1pm EST? Furthermore, if that is the reason, the local broadcast would be over by 8pm EST Saturday. They originally planned to show it about 15 hours after the original game was over. Why wouldn't they then show it on, say, Sunday or Monday before Tuesday?

    747454

If it would have sold out, the game would have been on live and NFL channel could have shown the game today. I know the possibility of a sellout for the non kids day game is not likely, but it may explain the change.

  13. Are there any good Qb's that are going to be free agents next year?  I mean like Drew Brees good.

    747158

If you have written off this season and are looking forward to the off season already, why don't you just leave those of us who are looking forward to Bills football this season alone? Start posting after the last game again and offer your opinion on who to pick up and who to draft. It is amazing that this one of the most exciting times of the year for most fans and some people are so negative that all they can do is look forward to the end of the season!

  14. ...what the heck is wrong with people in buffalo.  I just saw a good number of highlights on the NFL network.  The pick for TD is totally on Reed...what kind of route involves sort of running and stuttering around?  Even the announcers said that reed needs to run a route and make a decision.

But good god, looking at the other throws they showed of Losman's....damn, that kid can sling the football....and be extremely accurate.  What are you people looking for.....he is going to make mistakes....Jim used to throw at least a dumb pick a game..or so it seemed....so what....he had the skills and clearly...so does JP.

Support our team, stop the Craig Nall nonsense and get on board.  I don't hear anyone suggesting we should bench Willis for his gaff?  Why is that?  it resulted in a touchdown....if he does that every game....as you are assuming JP will do, should he get the hook?

They are both number 1 picks....they deserve to be given the chances...uh chances....to succeed.

You guys are amazing......watch the plays....watch it like it is a practice game.....don't look at this like it is exemplary of what a regular game would look like.

    Amen brother!
