  1. Rich Eisen just brought up how Bills fans are ripping Faulk apart for his comment on the LT needing an upgrade. They apparently got a lot of email calling him out. Faulk said he mistook RT for LT and proceeded to slam the team for having 8 QBs since Kelly and for letting Spikes, Clements, and Fletcher go last year. Eisen gave him a hard time about not actually apologizing for the mistake. In keeping with his ignorant Ahole image, Faulk refused to apologize and found old stuff to bring up. Why does he hate Buffalo so much? He really seemed like he has a personal vendetta against the Bills and got pretty flustered during the exchange.

  2. So am I, "a well regulated militia". I have no problem letting each household have single shot muskets or pistols like they did when the Constitution was written. I'm also OK with hunting rifles and shotguns. But I see no need for the public to have semi-automatic weapons and quick load pistols with clips. They should be restricted to the military and police.

But I'm also realistic and know it will never change.

Are you also OK with free speech only including words that existed when the founders wrote the constitution?

  3. I'm planning a trip for the MN game. Should I even bother trying to get 10 tickets? Pick another game?

    Opinions?

    Thanks

Make friends with a season ticket holder. I know I will be buying many extra tickets for friends before they go on sale to the public!

  4. Ok so I have dish network and the local channels don't come in high def. I figure with the nhl playoffs heading to NBC and the NFL in the fall, I want the local stations in high def. I bought some little antenna from walmart and it didn't friggen work. I'm like 25 miles north of Buffalo so the signal may not be that strong. Anyone know a good antenna to pick up the UHF broadcasts?

After trying many smaller cheaper antennas, I finally found one the works. I never lose reception and never have to adjust it. I'm about 25 miles outside rochester and pick up all the locals perfectly.

Edit: Just beat me to it Fezmid! my link is to a site selling the antenna.

  5. Plasmas are just fine in light as long as they have the anti glare coating. My living room as a 50" Panasonic plasma and one all is all windows. It looks great no matter what time of day.

    http://plasmatvbuyingguide.com/

while the site reviews plasmas, there is plenty of good HDTV information on there and I believe some LCD info as well.

Highdefforum.com also has some great info.

  6. oh yeah, and projection tv's are out of the question in my opinion. They have horrible viewing angles, are not as bright and the hologen bulb must be changed every 18 months depending on how much tv you watch. The bulb is about 250 a pop. So the less you pay now equals the more you pay later.

Another vizio note.... Flat panel tv's cost approx 350 dollars per hour to work on.

Unless you are watching 12 hours of TV a day, you will not have to change a bulb every year and a half (6000 to 8000 hours). And the viewing angle issue has been resolved in any quality rear projection now. I guess a lot has changed since you went through the world renowned Circuit City training program. This is why you should research TVs at a high quality audio visual store. I highly recomend Rowe photo if you are near Rochester. They have realistic lighting and have the sets adjusted to proper colors and brightness.

  7. I won't disagree about tossing the DD guy out. You come here, committ a crime, you should have to go back and re-enter America at a later date. But Geraldo was right about the maggot O'Reilly using this as a cheap political stunt to skapegoat an entire class of people. I know, I know, they are 'illegal' so its ok to hate them. If Dildo O'Reilly doesn't like drunk drivers, why doesn't he bash them more? Oh that's right, they are "legal" drunk drivers

Illegal immigrants are now a "class of people" that are unfairly discriminated against? Oh well, it's my own fault for "luring them here" according to Geraldo. I hope Geraldo understands that same concept when his wife, sister or daughter lures a rapist with their pretty clothes. I bet Geraldo's home is nicer than mine, I should illegally live on his land and blame him for luring me there with a better lifestyle!

By the way, they commit a crime by coming here in the first place, so are you saying they should all be sent back until they can re-enter at a later date? Or do you mean to deport them after they commit more crimes than illegally crossing the border?

  8. Looking to buy an LCD Flat panel for the upcoming hockey playoffs.

The Vizio seems to have caught my eye. (aight, it was the price, you got me).

    VIZIO GV47LFHDTV GV47LF - 47" LCD HDTV - $1799.99

Anyone have experience with the Vizio products? Good/bad/ugly?

Any advice or alternatives would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I haven't heard great things about Vizio. I just recently bought a Sony SXRD 50" rear projection. I love it. If you don't need a flat panel, you can pick up a really nice rear projection that is just about 16" deep for around $1800 for a 50".

  9. Williams has more character in one of his toenails than Peerless Price does in his entire body and the Bills gave him 10 million bucks didn't they?

I would just love to sign a guy who places his career and teammates well below smoking pot and yoga on his priority list! Smoking pot doesn't diminish your character, but it greatly diminishes your worth to a football team. Lots of people have to make the decision to abstain from drugs and follow rules they don't think are fair to be the best at their chosen career, Ricky decided he would rather smoke pot and live in a commune. Doesn't make him a bad guy, just a bad guy to have on your team.

  10. Well, I went with Paradigm monitor 7s. I also replaced the rest of my system with paradigm center, rears, and sub. I went back to Rowe and listened to the different speakers with several music types and found the Paradigms to be the best. I also have the option to upgrade within a year with full credit on the trade-ins. The Monitor 7s were cheaper than what I originally planned on spending (600/pair) but they sounded better than the much more expensive Definitive Techs and Klipschs. Saving some cash on the main speakers allowed me to upgrade the rest of the system right away instead of piece by piece. So far I'm pretty happy with them, they passed the Gladiator opening fight scene test with flying colors.

  11. Speakers....yummy

Does under $2k/pair mean you want to approach that limit and squeeze every drop of speaker you can get out of that budget, or do you want to spend as little as possible while still upgrading from your Polks?

Do you want floorstanders or stand-mounted monitors?

    How big is your room?

What percentage of the use will be for music/movies?

Do you want loud, accurate, or both?

Assuming part of the purpose of this system is for movies, I wholeheartedly agree with Fez about SVS. Their subwoofers are the biggest no brainers in audio, and they will transform your movie watching experience.

Don't just visit a place like Rowe...I remember them from when I used to live in Rochester. Go to a dedicated audio shop where all they sell are speakers and audio gear (and maybe video gear, too).

Between Klipsch and Paradigm, I'd personally go with the 'digms as I feel they represent one of the best price to performance ratios in the biz. I've owned speakers from their three main lines (performance, monitor, and studio) and loved all of them. In your price range, the studio line (like Fez has) would be a great choice.

If you happen to be the sort of person who craves detail, realism, and 'presence' from your speakers - with both music and movies - allow me to introduce you to "Maggie". This would easily be my choice for a speaker under $1500/pair, BUT, only if one is willing to set them up properly. Go here and read about 'the offer you can't refuse'. These speakers are only $550, but if you treat them right they'll give you performance that will out-perform a LOT of other systems for 2-3x the money. And by treating them right, all I really mean is 1) giving them enough room to breathe away from the walls of your room, 2) pairing them with a capable subwoofer, and 3) mating them to an amplifier that has some nice, clean current to bring out their best. They create sound entirely differently than your typical cone speaker, they have a very nice contemporary look, and chances are none of your friends will have either heard of them or own(ed) them. If this option looks intriguing, let me know and I'll give you more details.

As for other speakers in your price range, I'll second the nod for the Von Schweikerts....I really liked their little VR-1 monitors. I also really like Totem Acoustic....you can get yourself into a very nice smallish 2-way floorstander for around $1k/pair. Ascend acoustics (http://www.ascendacoustics.com/) is a company that is factory direct and VERY popular among audiophiles on a budget.

And, of course, the Paradigm studio line would be a very nice choice for you....Fez speaks the truth

I think I want floorstanding speakers, for a mid sized room. I don't know exact dimensions, because they will soon live in a room I will be building in my basement this summer. I would say the majority of the time they will be used for TV and movies, but I am still very concerned with how they sound with music. That is probably my biggest complaint with the polk satelites I have now. Movies sound good, but music is not up to par.

I have a Denon avr 2160 (100 watts per) and a Denon dvd/cd palyer. DVD is using the digital coax, CD is using the optical. I don't plan on listening at extremely high volumes, but I don't want to have to worry if I crank it up now and then. The magnapans look interesting, but I'm not sure if I will have the flexibility to set them up just right.

Thanks for the advice, it gives me a good start on my research.
