1. Two sattelite NFL channel hosts were commenting on how great Saban is and that he made a great move hiring the former Bills head coach as offensive coordinator. Their reasoning was that he really knows the division opponents. Correct me if I am missing something, but don't 2 out of 3 division opponents have totally different coaching staffs with different schemes? The only team that may resemble the last few years is New England and Malarkey didn't exactly have them figured out! I'm sure these guys were not impressed with Malarkey when he was calling the plays for Buffalo! Oh well, I guess we need to deal with the Saban love fest until the Dolphins start losing again.

  2. Actually, the blood is on the hands of those that administered the beat-down.  The cowards merely have faux hot sauce on their hands.

And really...who can blame them?  I long gave up being a good samaritan, ever since I realized I can get sued and lose everything for saving some ass hole's life.  Better the ass holes of the world die than sue me...

As long as you don't get upset if people walk by as you are being beaten or killed, I guess that is a fine attitude.

Evil thrives when good people do nothing.

  3. No--marriage is for procreation. Although people can marry and not procreate, once you get married, it's final.

As far as wide support, all you need to do is look at wedding vows. No one vows to get married "for a few years" or "until we hit a rough spot." People intend to stay married. How about a law to enforce it.

That's ridiculous--let's stay in the realm of reality and not in some ORwellian fantasy.

I must be stepping into some sarcastic trap because you can't possibly think that forcing two people to live together is more realistic than forced sterilization due to child neglect. You had me going for a while though.

A lot of women agreed to "obey" in their vows too, does that mean my wife has to do whatever I say under penalty of law? That would certainly make for a happier house for me!

I hope for your sake that this is in fact a dry attempt at humor and not your twisted views.

  4. Now that the gay marriage thing is dead, I have a suggestion.

Why don't we take a stab at a problem we might be able to solve: broken homes. Children from single homes are more likely to commit crimes, do drugs, have out of wedlock children, contract an STD, and be on social welfare than children from married homes.

The solution to this problem--one that America is probably ready for--is to ban divorce. Before you go all apespit on me, there would be provisions for cases of abuse, but they would require a Court Order and hearing. This would insure that people get married for the right reasons, and can't get divorced for the wrong ones. There would probably have to be some laws forcing married couples to cohabitate; otherwise people could "divorce" in practice without doing it in name, just by moving out.

To be honest, I cribbed this idea from a local paper, but apparently, it's gotten wide support.

    704575

I'd like some data on the "wide support" you claim. Would people without kids be allowed to divorce? Who decides what the "right reasons" are? We can't listen to the majority that feel gay marriages are wrong, but you and your "wide support" can tell me what the "right reasons" for marriage are?

If you are really concerned about the children, why don't we sterilize anyone that has a child but needs public assistance to survive. If you can't afford a kid, don't have em. If you can't stop having kids we will help you stop. If you are a drug addict...sterilized. Repeat criminal...sterilized. Only good parents should reproduce.

  5. Wacka spouting off that I'm "a liberal" just like CTM is a Nazi, and KRC is a Communist. What else is new? 0:)

The Providence media (especially Alison Bologna on Ch. 10! ;) ) has done a good job covering the story.

I dunno. But I do think it would be appropriate for every pol to just stop using the phrase "African-American" in an off-the-cuff manner b/c past performance shows it's like asking for trouble. Yes, he was arrested in a neighborhood whose population is close to 100% black, but why did he go out of the way to add race into the mix? The context here is that he doesn't want special treatment.

In the Trent Lott case, he made similar usage, yet the (inadvertant, in the middle of chatting up an outgoing Senator at a party; I gave him a pass) context made it out to some people like he supported continuation of segregation back in the day. He paid a political price. Kennedy might too; the most recent polls have that 46% support his return to Congress, 47% say he should step down, 7% undecided, in a state he's won convincingly a few times.

He claims that 10 out of the 12 police said they couldn't smell alcohol on him. Is that similar to how 4 out of 5 dentists recommend Trident®?

    704528

I guess I didn't realize that it took a majority vote to get a breathalyzer test. If two officers smelled alchohol on his breath how do they explain the fact that the didn't even feel it was necessary to make him blow in a straw! The two who smelled the alchohol were probably Republicans just like the girl who claims to have served him drinks. She was out to get him too. Oh well, nobody likes a "victim" like the libs.

  6. I'd pay an extra $.25 for the Post just so I don't have to read Lupica's whining.  0:)

p.s.  This is a really stupid story and I know it's stating the obvious, but if a Republican made the same quote, it would be a national disgrace.  Of course, that's because all Republicans hate black people.

    704412

It's not quite at the Ray Nagin level with his "God wants a chocolate city" remark, but still pretty bad.

The Kennedy's are sort of like the Diplomats in Lethal Weapon, they break the law and just need to flash their Kenomatic Immunity cards.

  7. Excellent point, UConn James.

I'm not going to defend Rep. Kennedy's actions, and for the record he hasn't either.  But, if you're going to attribute a quote to the guy, at least try and find the actual transcript and not rely on Drudge or the NY Daily News for a manufactured quote.

Here is the full transcript via WaPo.

A poor choice of words?  Totally.  But definately not as sensationalist as Drudge would have you believe.  The guy is having a press conference to say that he accepts responsibility and doesn't want to be treated any differently than anyone else in that same situation, and the right wing press is taking him to task.

So we're ripping congressmen for actually accepting personal responsibility now?

    704336

He was so messed up that he didn't know where he was when the cops got to him yet no sobriety test was given...sounds pretty standard to me, no special treatment! He doesn't remember anything about the crash or the events leading up to it...except that he was not drinking. How convenient that his memory works fine when it comes to denying getting drunk. The woman who claims to have served him drinks must be lying!

Unless someone has a time machine, Kennedy cannot take responsibility for his actions because he already received special treatment when he avoided the sobriety test. But hey, if he wants to play the role of martyr...

The press should also be going after the police officers who failed to administer the appropriate tests to Kennedy.

  8. And what should an half educated, un-employed multi-millionaire do with his time? Same as the rest of us half educated, un-employed, ex-whatever they use to do for a living in Buffalo do....

    Start drinking!

And now that you mention it, we should start a school!

PS hate to say it,  I'm not sure if Im joking or serious.

It could really go either way...

A Toast!!!  Buffallllloooooo! Yessur, Pass the beer nuts.

    704280

But I don't want to wait until retirement to start drinking heavily. (or continue drinking)

  9. http://fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2006/06...06062006/196884

I am so glad that these guys felt eating at Taco Bell was so more important then either helping out or at least calling the police while the victim was beat to death.

    704020

We can only hope that the witnesses suffer a similair fate while people walk by too dissinterested to help! I had a friend that was jumped by several guys at a bar. Many of his "friends" that were there didn't do anything to help because they were cowards and "thought he had everything under control". Doctors later drilled a hole in his skull to relieve the pressure! I could not go through life thinking I could have saved a life but was too afraid to help. The same people who will not get involved in helping to prevent or solve crimes are the first ones to complain when a crime affects their lives. This is why the "don't snitch" shirts that are showing up all over Rochester are so disturbing. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem!

  10. I didn't say he was a great man, I didn't proclaim him the poster boy for Catholic church, I didn't even say his opinions were enlightened.

    He isn't, we shouldn't, and they ain't.

And precisely for those reasons, he sounds like the knucklehead comments in any tavern in town. And right here on this board for that matter. And THAT is why I salute him!

A real man. A real fan.

    Join me in a toast!

    703970

Actually I took the quote right from your post. You said "He should be giving workshops to other players on life after ball." I'm not disagreeing with the other parts of the post.

  11. OK so we might have a brief moment of apoplexy when he talks about the Bills moving. But listen to his comments. This is how a TRUE blue Buffalo sports fan talks out on the links. None of this professional athelete talk. He has moved into the ranks of us. And as such we should be proud to have him in our company.

    Raise a glass to Thurman!

I remember the big game with Jim Kelly vs the Dolphins at UB some years back. Thurman did break dancing right in the middle of the field. Should have been a tip off that the man is comfortable in his role as a no-longer first string NFL running back. He should be giving workshops to other players on life after ball.

Next thing I can picture is Thurman working the grill on the hood of the car at the stadium, and me throwing him a bomb in the parking lot after the game!

He's even working on a beer gut!

Thurman Thomas. Patron saint of all Bills Fans everywhere.

    703892

I don't know about "giving workshops to other players on life after ball". I think he has had some rough times over the last several years with alchohol and/or drugs. I'm not saying he is a bad person, just not the guy you want to model your life after!

  12. He didn't threaten the President. He suggested that the Senator threatens the President.

Sen. Schumer must be stopped. Or not.

    702287

How do I put this diplomatically? Guns don't kill people, Schumer Kills people.

  13. Alan Hevesi recently stated that Chuck Schumer would be ``the man who, how do I phrase this diplomatically, who will put a bullet between the president's eyes if he could get away with it.''

That is how he would phrase it "diplomatically"?

Of course he would not have a gun to shoot the President with if he had his way because he is a huge anti-gun advocate.

These are the morons we elect to office in NY!

  14. Yeah...I'm a bad poster.  But you're worse.

That argument make more sense to you?  :o

    699040

Thanks for explaining it to me. I not smart like you. I feel like I'm taking up too much of your time now. I'm sure there are lots of other people who would be impressed by your condescending intelligence.

  15. The basis of this is that, geologically speaking, for the past two million years we have been in the Pliestocene,  the coldest stretch in the last few hundred million years.  The period has been marked by successive waves of major ice ages, each lasting a few hundred thousand years, and each itself defined by individual periods of advancing and retreating glaciers.  To the best of our knowledge, we are in one of these major periods, but in a warm period of retreat now lasting 10,000 years (but still essentially colder than any point in the last 200 million years).  So, the theory goes, unless the Pliestocene is really over (and we have no reason to conclude that),  based on the previous pattern we are overdue to lurch back into a glacial period.

Of course this is based on extrapolating from previous experience, and does not preclude man-made influences from kicking us out of the pattern.

Those damn cavemen and their SUVs!

  16. Let's see...the original post said "Bush bad".  You contributed "Clinton Worse".  I contributed "You know, that's a really obnoxious reply to a really obnoxious post."  Of the three...I'd have to say that mine post contributed the most to the discussion.

And I didn't call YOU obnoxious, you fool.  I calld your POST obnoxious.  But, if it makes you feel better, you're obnoxious as well.  :o

    698672

I may not have the best grammar, but when I call someone a fool I would try to make it more than two words after that before misspelling something. Nothing against YOU, just your post.

  17. Ah, yes...nothing quite defends againts "Bush Bad" like "Clinton Worse".

Of course...the first post in this thread was so !@#$ing obnoxious it was begging for an equally obnoxious reply, anyway...

    698662

I deserve to be called obnoxious after you contributed so much with that pointless post?

  18. I still marvel that ANYONE put their money anywhere NEAR these guys' trust after they said in their annual report, point blank: "We can't tell you how we make money, we'd be giving away a trade secret."

    <_<

Yes, these guys are crooks - hell, that one statement pretty much proves it.  And it's perfectly just that they'll rot in jail for the rest of their lives.  But no one who was dumb enough to put ANY money in Enron should be blaming their hardship on these two.

    698171

I would be willing to bet that the majority of the workers who had most or all of their retirement $ in Enron stock were told at one time how stupid it was. It is a basic rule of retirement investing that no one stock should ever make up a big % of your portfolio. When you are making a fortune on a stock, you tend to think it will never go down and the common sense rules don't apply to you.

I think there was some issue with restrictions on selling Enron stock also. That is the only situation that deserves any sympathy with regard to Enron stock.

  19. Remember, his happened during bubba's term. It went to trial during Bush's. I don't see that Bush did anything to help them.

    But of course Bush= Bad.

    698628

How many pardons did Mr and Mr Clinton grant on his way out of office? Some really slimy people if I remember correctly!

  20. If you're insured with full liability, aren't you covered even if the other person isn't insured?

    696929

I just heard that two illegal aliens were involved in a car accident in NJ. Neither one had insurance. The one at fault took off. The other illegal, I mean documentily challenged person sued NJ and won a settlement that paid all his medical expenses! Illegal to be here, Illegal to drive, no insurance, let's make the American citizen pay!
