Because they go a little too far sometimes.  Yeah a stong gust of wind parted the Red Sea, and an Ice Floe just happened to be on the Sea of Galalea.

What next?  The Ark was built on the edge of a river just before it flooded?

What are these scientists thinking! Don't they realize these occurences have already been totaly explained? It was a miracle...Some guy wrote about it! There is a reason religion is called a faith, because you are not supposed to question it's validity, just believe what you are told or go to hell. You will never convince a truly religious person that their religion is incorrect, and you will never convince an Atheist that religion is correct.

  2. The city of Chicago won't enforce any federal laws criminalizing undocumented immigrant workers.

City may buck feds on immigration

It seems to be a "don't ask, don't tell" kind of policy.  Undocumented workers won't be required to reveal their status before receiving city services, and the providers won't ask for their status, or turn them in.

Kind of an interesting development.  I wonder if similar laws will spring up around the country pre-emptively defying the proposed Sensenbrenner bill?

    648621

The Federal Government could end that quickly by simply withholding all Federal funds from any city that refuses to comply. Could you imagine if Chicago had to pay all the Medicaid and welfare on their own.

  3. Is he availible.  Here me out if we signed or traded for Tedy he could solve alot of our problems.  Maybe even help out Erie County.

I heard from a reliable source that when he had his stroke he was dead for a few minutes. He went to heaven and tackled Jesus for a loss and stripped the bible from God and ran back to earth for a touchdown. (He was also credited with 3 hits)

  4. I haven't read enough about this to form an opinion on the act itself.  I really don't know fully what is being alleged.  I have formed an opinion or two though:

    1. Talk about guilty until proven innocent.  Sheesh.  Why wouldn't both sides let the investigation take its course?

    2. I read a brief article this morning in which the players (most of them anyway) attorney states they are all innocent and that DNA will absolve them from blame.  That comment is immediately followed by a Duke professor's comment stating that DNA is not needed because the players could have just worn condoms.  She is convinced of their guilt even if their is no evidence.  An allegation seems to be enough for her.  ;)  What if they find someone elses DNA?  Did the players alter it in a grand deception?

    3. I think I heard there were 3 attackers.  There are 40 odd players on the team.  Should they all go to jail?  Maybe we can just kill them all.  They are just jocks anyway.

    648142

They are white males so they must be guilty. Even if they didn't do it, I'm sure they oppressed someone in the past and never got punished for it! Too bad they weren't muslim proffessors supporting terrorist groups, they would have the undying support of the faculty.

  5. Fuel economy depends on several factors. Weight to be transported, tire rolling resistance, frontal area, motor efficiency, over-the-road velocity, and internal friction losses.

There is a limited, and maximum amount of energy to be obtained from a fuel - be it gasoline, diesel, steam, electricity, hydrogen, or whatever. Hydrogen fuel cells have particular hurdles - the necessity for containment of their output for duty such as fuel demand for acceleration - you are going to have to compress it at some point for reserve purposes which for basic reasons means a tubular or cylindrical storage device (direct hydrogen charging of course needs a reservoir), and hydrogen embrittlement - hydrogen is a small atom, and when it combines to its low energy diatomic free state, will permeate and destroy the composition of materials of construction for tank and delivery system over time.  As well as for the distribution network.

    No magic bullets exist.

The 100 mpg vehicle was available many decades ago - a 100 cc four-stroke IC motorcycle with a simple carburator.

The ideal solution would be something like a 20 mph speed maximum, with very small motors using turbocharging energy reuse and other optimizations. Possibly using the powerplant to supply electricity to motors that directly drive the individual wheels - this technique is already being explored. It saves a fair amount of drivetrain friction loss.

    All aboard! :D

Will this car be able to do donuts and haul my deer carcasses out of the woods? If not I'll stick to my pickup with good ol' american V8 power. How stupid would I look with a gun rack in the back of a tiny hybrid car and a deer tied to the hood?

  6. Move the kickoff of Monday night games to 6 p.m. Eastern. So I finally can see a fourth quarter.

All this guy does is watch sports and write assinine articles about it and he can't stay up to watch MNF? What a tough life. He should get together with Jerry Sullivan and have a whining contest.

I wonder what he would do "If he was a good sports writer".

  7. Booze and the Bomb?

And media mogul Ted Turner has ripped into President Bush, calling him a "reformed alcoholic" with "his finger on the nuclear trigger" and who "might decide to get drunk again."

Speaking at an event honoring his promotion of global understanding, the founder of CNN said the president lacks a true understanding of the world and called the war in Iraq, "a big waste of time."

    Good ol' Tedladin.

I would love to see Ford and GM jump on this to compete with the Japanese autp makers.

Would be much cheaper to use than the current hybrid systems.

The Scuderi Group is an engine development company currently building an Air-Hybrid Engine which it claims will be to be the world's most fuel efficient internal combustion engine. Currently in production at Southwest Research in San Antonio, Texas, it is claimed that the Scuderi Air-Hybrid Engine will allow diesel and gasoline automobiles, commercial vehicles and other applications powered by internal combustion engines to be 60 percent fuel efficient (compared to today's 33 percent), reduce toxic emissions by 80 percent, while making it easier and less expensive to incorporate the technology into today's automobile manufacturing process.

That's great, but what is its 0-60 time?

  9. CNN

One of CNN's own goes toCNN's other favorite network...

By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer 2 hours, 12 minutes ago

NEW YORK - Lucia Newman, CNN's first and only correspondent based in Havana, has jumped to the new Al-Jazeera International network, which plans to begin operations later this spring.

Newman will be based in Al-Jazeera's bureau in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Journalist Mariana Sanchez, a former news anchor for Panamericana Television, will also work for Al-Jazeera International in a Caracas, Venezuela bureau, the network said on Wednesday.

    646067

It will probably be tough adjusting to a more pro-America view on Al-Jazeera.

  10. And as usual, Krugman only talks about the heads side of the argument.  While average wages may go up by 8% if it weren't for Mexican immigration, he neglects the tails argument that total unemployment may rise to wipe out the benefits brought by higher wages to the low skilled jobs.

There's a living experiment of what happens when you implement wage controls, it's working perfectly well in France, Germany & GM.

    645600

Are you also opposed to minimum wage? That is a wage control. Eliminating illegal workers from the workforce is not the same as what is in place in France and Germany. The wages may go up in America due to supply and demand of workers, not due to Government socialistic policies.

  11. Do you feel the same way about the confederate flag being flown alongside the American flag?  Serious question, not trying to instigate.

    645594

If the American flag was taken down and replaced with ANY other flag in an attempt to make a political statement I would feel that way. This is not an issue where the mexicans flew their flag seperate from the Americam flag, they turned it upside down and placed it under the mexican flag! Pride in your heritage is fine up to the point where it prevents you from respecting America and it's people.

  12. Check out the photos here:

    http://michellemalkin.com/index.htm

I didn't see them on CNN

    645475

That is truly one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen. Taking down the American flag to replace it with the Mexican flag should be seen for what it is, an attempt to take over this country. These people are not proud to be American they are only proud to take advantage of America. Illegal immigrants don't respect our flag, our country, or our citizens. If you are so proud of the Mexican flag and what it represents, why the hell did you leave that country? We do not need these protesters in our country, we need law abiding people who will take great pride in their new Amercian citizenship. How many of us have relatives who cried with joy on the day they became US citizens? Don't dishonor their memory by giving in to these mobs!

  13. Joe, while I agree with the second two, how many Polish, Italian, etc.... moved here in the 20's, 30's 40's and didn't learn English.

    644539

Those immigrants didn't demand that all public services be offered in their language. If you refuse to learn english, don't expect the hospitals, DMVs, ATMs, Welfare applications, etc. to provide services in Spanish. I forget the details, but many doctors offices are now forced to employ a spanish translator. It drives me nuts when I have to "push 1 for English" every time I call a business.

  14. Reaching out?   Good one!  Ever hear of a gang called MS-13 Mara Salvatrucha?  They'd sooner cut your head off than accept your help.  Those animals belong in a cage, that's the only solution for them.

    644438

I recently watched a show on Discovery or Learning channel that focused on this gang and how they have become the most dangerous gang in America. Would Jesus want us to help them too?

  15. Name calling??  I called you a sap, wow, thin skinned aren't we.  That's why the illegals take advantage of you.  A solution?  Here ya go:

Yes, enforce all the laws.  The ones against hiring illegals as well as deporting the illegals.  Then build the fence and protect our border, you do believe in borders don't you?  No guest worker program, that will just open the floodgates. If we can't enforce the laws now, what makes you think we'll be able to get them back to their home countries when their "visa" runs out.

No cities allowed to call themselves sanctuaries (ie Maywood CA).  That should be considered harboring criminals (they are illegal, remember).  And if Maywood wants to consider itself a sactuary is it just for Latinos or can anyone be safe there?  Next, religious institutions will try to do the same....think mosques.

You must take away the incentive for them to come.  First, yes no jobs.  We need to crack down on employers.  Second, no free health care.  You must be a citizen to be treated.  Third, no automatic citizenship to children born here of illegals.  Children of illegals are illegal until they follow proper channels.  Once they have then the illegal chain is broken.  Do you have any idea how many women come over here pregnant to have their child born a citizen.  Once that happens the saps like you feel so sorry for them.  "We can't doport the parents and separate them from their citizen children."  Fourth, no free schooling for illegal children (see three). Main reason schools suck here in CA, overcrowding with children who can't speak the language.  Fifth, tax all money sent to foreign countries.  Do you realize that latinos send BILLIONS of dollars each year home?  That is money taken out of our economy.

Can we get rid of the millions that are now here?  Tough one, can't round them up and ship them back.  However we must stop the flood in.  Where do you live?  Do you see it, do you experience it, do you live it everyday like I do?  I live in southern CA and have been here for nearly 25 years. I've worked in the restaurant biz, I was part of the problem, now I want to be part of the solution.  I've seen it grow from a small problem to a massive one in those 25 years.  I shudder to think what it will be like in 25 more if nothing is done.

Those are my solutions.  What are yours, quoting the bible?

    644389

    Amen brother!

  16. Psalms 82:3-4 : Defend the poor and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and needy. 4 Deliver the poor and needy; Free them from the hand of the wicked.

    644359

I am an Athiest, thank God. I'm not saying the bible can't be used to support your argument. Or the argument against gay rights and womens rights for that matter. I just think it is a BS way to support you claims. But you have allready showed that you have no shame with your racist claim.

  17. Oh I wished I lived in the black and white world you live in, would be a lot simpler, got to admit.

But sitting in the front of the bus, going to a whites only restaruant, going on strike to protest unfair labor conditions etc.  We can go down the list about when illegal activity is justified and when it is not.

    644330

Are you really comparing Blacks that were brought here against their will, treated like property, beaten, lynched, etc. to people sneaking into this country illegally and reaping the benefits of free health care, welfare and civil rights? Not all illegal immigrants are here to work hard and send money to their families. There is a huge problem with illegal immigrant gang members and criminals. You choose to ignore the huge negatives that come with illegal immigration.

  18. Yep, that is my story, stickin to it, that is the way I was raised in my Church, one of those Jesus things.

Especially since some idiotic Dept. of Immigration can't find its ass with both hands and a mirror and our immigration policy seems to be pretty arbritrary and capricious on who and when we let them in.

Until those situations are rectified...calling them criminals makes no sense, having restrictions and fines place on them as part of a more coherent immigration strategy does and then if they break the law fine.

Also, I am not including in this list the vultures on either side of the border taking every last dollar of these poor folks and sometimes making them the equivalent of indentured servants, they are criminals and should be locked up for a long time.

If you can't understand that, I've got no hope for you.

    644097

Just when I thought you couldn't sink any lower on the credibility scale, you throw in a "what would Jesus do". So at this point I'm a racist and a sinner because I don't want to let everyone in the world take advantage of the great benefits this country has to offer. The benefits that AMERICANS fought so hard to achieve. If you do not feel like your country is offering you a decent life (Cuba and Mexico as example), fight for your freedom and improve your country. America is the land of opportunity because people were willing to fight and sacrifice to build it.

It is a slippery slope once you start justifying illegal activity to better your life.

  19. This weekend I tried a little mental exercise. I was thinking about how we could break our dependence upon oil. Rather than ponder too deeply, (and probably hurt myself), I figured I'd try the creative writing methond...that being to write down the first idea that popped into my head. After having a thought about what the exact problem is with our oil usage, I split it into two components: Power Generation and Transportation.

I came up with an idea that kills two birds with one stone AND allowes the free market to come up with a solution.

    The idea was this:

Why not hold a contest? Yes, that's right, a contest. A contest with an immensely valuable prize: 100-year EXCLUSIVE patent rights and 50 years corporate tax-free production time for the first company to develop fusion power and/or a transportation system that relies on oil for less than 10% of its propulsion.

In addition to this, the gubmint would guarantee the purchase of a certain number of fusion reactors/oil-free cars to make any and all research profitable BEFORE the company (ies) would have to get it to market.

Would an idea such as this work?

    What would the barriers be?

Would a 10-year time limit be long enough?

I don't know enough about mechanical engineering or nuclear physics to say, but I'd say the idea is sound and a responsible way to improve the amount spent on R&D to fix a bad problem. Thoughts?

    643565

Dibs on illegal imigrant powered rickshaws!

  20. Thanks Johnny but VABills is part of the immigration problem, should send him back to where he or his family a couple of generations back came from.

I see this debate on a couple of different levels, but the illega/ legal argument as a waste of time.  I understand why folks try and get into this country by any means possible, the stupid felon label attachment means as much to the undocumented folks as it does to a drug addict.  Actually a felony may mean more to the addict.

However I do think a label attached to an undocumented alien should be able to be come up with to be able to track and prevent reentry.

The real question is how to best deal with the migrant flows and how best to track folks coming in.  The wall may be a step to partially prevent undocumented folks from entering.  But the real problem is business that are always looking for short cuts willing to hire these folks.  If you are going to label undocumented immigrants as illegals then you have to make it more than a felony for businesses and increase civil fines high enough to businesses that hire them to discourage the practice.

Until this happens right wing self-righteous anger is hypocritical and probably racist. So much for all that human dignity puff crap the white house put out.

Job issues are important and I can understand the frustration on that score, it is also a social issue.  The same nasty responses were directed at the Irish, Italians and Germans and Chinese when they first came over, legally or illegally.

A rational governmental response would help reduce some of this frustration.

    643387

The felon label has little to do with the illegal (or undocumented as the left likes to call them) alien, it will work against the employers who don't fear the current repercussions of hiring illegal immigrants. The people who assist the illegal immigrants could also be charged. Felonies often carry jail time and hopefully would in this case. What penalty do you suggest that is "more then a felony?"

I love how easily the racist label is thrown around by the sensative, caring lefty whenever someone wants to crack down on ILLEGAL immigrants. How am I racist when I do not care what race these criminals are? Has anyone suggested that one race of people be targeted? People like you cheapen the word and diminish it's impact.

You cannot lump the harrasment directed at legal immigrants with the desire to prosecute criminals. As much as you would like to portray the evil right wing as anti-immigrant, the great majority are simply anti-illegal immigrant.
