BREAKING NEWS: NHL lockout is over!
apuszczalowski replied to Buftex's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The Maritimes don't have the population or the economics to support a pro sports franchiseThey are working on trying to get a new arena in Quebec City to try and get the Nordiques back already. The problem with moving teams back into Canada is that right now, with the dollars being so close, it works well for Canada, but if/when the dollar drops again and theres a big difference between the Canadian and US dollar, those teams are back to struggling to survive. Also, more teams in Canada does nothing to expand the league and attract the lucrative TV deals. Canadians all over love hockey and support teams already, weither they are in Saskatchewan or PEI, or Toronto. If the NHL wants to grow and become one of the big guns in the sporting world, they need expansion into current non hockey market areas of the US to get a better TV deal. ESPN doesn't want hockey if the only people watching are north of the Mason/Dixon. They won't pay NFL type money for a sport only half the country cares about, so they need teams in Florida and Arizona and Texas to get people interested and into the game. That will only come with good marketing by those teams, and a quality product on the ice, something most of those areas have struggled with...... -
Bills hire Mike Pettine of the Jets as DC???
apuszczalowski replied to LiterateStylish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No ones going to comment about the line "Pettine does a lot of heavy lifting with the Jets." and Rex Ryan? -

Free agents for new regime?

I was thinking about him being a possible pickup for them because of marrones time with the Saints. But I can't see him coming here to be Choices replacement, unless they drop Freddie down which would cause an uproar around here. I wouldn't have a problem seeing Spiller used as a versatile kind of weapon making the occasional run and splitting out to play some WR also. Then have Bush and Freddie split the carries as the every down RBs running it up the middle -
Why does Cleveland and Kansas City have more talent?
apuszczalowski replied to seq004's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree, Reid took the job cause he was going to get exactly what he wanted and more (lots of control, gets to bring in his own GM i.e. puppet, and he gets to start out with a top pick in the draft, plus the Chiefs probably offered him whatever he wanted $ wise) As for Cleveland, I don't see much talent there, then throw in the fact that they drafted a rookie QB older then half the veterans on the team, but they are also in a spot with no GM where a HC could come in and take over most of the control of the team. That could make it more attractive to some that want control of the players As for the part about winning to get respect, kind of blows your point out of the water when we are complaining about Cleveland and KC getting more respect, its not like they have been winning franchise either -

I'm actually all for this kind of thing Most people don't realise that naming their child something dumb "But Unique and Different" can sometimes lead to alot of bullying and name calling from other kids growing up But hey, atleast the parent can smile and talk about the uniqueness that they gave their child -

I doubt he took the job over anywhere else because they team had guys named to the Pro Bowl, HC's just like most fans know that the Pro bowl is a glorified popularity contest like the all Star games in other sports where the fans vote -
Ruben Brown this morning on the radio was talking about how Lovie would be a great fit here, said he thinks Pat Shurmer (former browns coach) would become the OC for Lovie whereever he ends up as HC
-
I thought I heard that Horton was not still part of the Cardinals staff, but I could be mistaken.Give him the Assistant HC title then, only way I would want Whisenhunt is if it meant he came in a package with Horton, I can't see horton going somewhere from Arizona to be an OC unless it was to work for Whiz though, I don't think he has ever had any ties to Lovie in the past

Let those coaches believe it, Reid is one of the last coaches i wanted to see here, and I'm very leery on weither Kelly is going succeed for more then one year in his first time around as an NFL head coach. It is funny that the media says it, but maybe thats because its the same way everyone here feels. Just read what people write here all the time, The Bills are horrible, no talent, no one wants to come here, everyone is always better, etc. -
I want to say that it was McDaniels, when he was the OC for New England and taking the HC job in denver, or it may have been when Crennel and Weiss left New England where a Co-ordinator was interviewed and a deal was agreed that he would become the teams HC prior to a team being eliminated. The Co-ordinator stayed on for the remainder of the playoffs, and once it was over would sign the contract to become a HC somewhere else

Chip Kelly HC! (possibly for the Browns)
apuszczalowski replied to 13player's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Up until the half they weren't, they were pretty close in almost all phases til Kansas missed the FG and Oregon came down and scored before halftime, seems like after that happened, Kansas just gave in and couldn't do anything -

Well its been said for the last day or 2 that Buffalo, Philly and Clev would interview him, but it was said that he was only interested in Clev or PhillyIt does sound like it was an interview that was set up as an option for both sides (Bills are in Arizona anyways, might as well talk to him while they can) to get an idea on each other Thast true, there was that quote saying he called around about Whaley to get thoughts about him around the league, maybe it was to get an idea what others around the league thought of him to get an idea if he is going somewhere that could have a problem recruiting FAs and coaches because people don't like Whaley or want to work with him? -

Those were some of the things I noticed about the calls, yet an o-linemen has a slight tick/flinch where no defender makes a move offside and they blow it dead immediatly.Even though its grass, I very rarely saw a Duck slip and fall, did someone forget to tell the Kansas players to pack their cleats? -

But everyone talks about how "innovative" he isI would think he would make a great OC in the NFL I think, I would have big concerns about him as an NFL HC. I get the feeling he is going to be one of those guys who comes in and maybe looks good for the first year cause he is trying something new, then regresses because the league has caught on to what they are doing (Like Sporano when he brought back the "Wildcat") As for the interview, it makes sense for him because he can use it as leverage with another team, as for the Bills, its another name to the list of guys they interview and its a way to gather some info on the thinkings of a coach who many see as a guy who can think outside the box. Basically they interview him and get some info on how he would run things and what he does/his beliefs that they can use for themselves (without him divulging any secrets or a playbook). Who knows, sometimes it works out where someone who came in as a curteousy type interview might change their mind during the interview as per their view of the other side. He may go into it thinking he will sit doan and meet with them, but prefer to go to Philly or Cleveland, but after talking to the Bills, he might find that his view on the organisation is wrong and think that this is where he wants to be. -

I feel the same after watching the game, I didn't see what the Big deal was. Oregon just looked like a better team beating a team that wasn't as good. I didn't see anything really innovative except that they ran things faster then most teams in the NFL would. I did notice that Oregon was getting some good treatment from the refs who were letting stuff they did go while flagging Kasas for lesser things (not that it cost Kansas the game or anything, just seemed like Oregon would get better treatment and more calls in their favour). What I also noticed was for an indoor field, did someone grease the kansas players shoes or something? How many times did players go out and start to run, then fall flat after slipping on the field -
Even if Horton is here for only a year, thats enough time to get a defensive coaching staff in place under him here, with a playbook and to teach the players the system. If/when he leaves, one fo the guys under him can be promoted or bring in someone who can work with what we have What do you expect? Considering only 2-3 guys have interviewed already and they are supposed to be interviewing kelly today, I'm not surprised that as of now, he has the loudest buzz. After today, that might become Kelly, after this weekend that could become Lovie. As of right now, out of Whiz and Horton and anyone else they interviewed previously, the guy with HC experience, Whiz could very well be the frontrunner out of who they have talked to
-
I'm for Whiz if he can bring Horton with him as DC, if not, I think theres better choices and would rather see Lovie as HC

Bills coach search update
apuszczalowski replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My concerns with Kelly is if he can actually continue to do what he does at the NFL level, or if his offence will end up the new "Wildcat" in the big leagues. Its much easier to run "specialty" offences at the college ranks then it is in the NFL. -
And Reid is not a "retread"? They "Developped" Kolb by making him look good enough to be an attractive piece of trade bait. He hasn't looked great since leaving Philly. I think your using the word "developped" wrong, when you should be saying "Gets the most out of what he has to work with"I really would not want to see Reid picked to coach here, I just think he is overrated. He was handed a 'dream team" of top FAs and crumbled since McNabb was pushed out of town.
