  1. There has been some very good debate on this thread. While I believe the comments made by the OSU president need to be said, I think he should have kept them to himself. Although, I bet there are many college presidents that are glad somebody made the remarks. I believe Gee's comments were more about all the top schools in the top conferences and less about OSU (this year). OSU is mediocre and Wisconsin seems to be the power of the conference. The argument that the SEC is loaded is valid. They are loaded and they have been for some time now. To be part of "the club" a school needs to demonstrate over time that it is worthy. That is why if BSU and/or TCU makes it to the BCS final, that is their chance to win or at least provide a competitive performance. There was a time when Miami was not considered worthy by some. Then they got their chance against Nebraska and won in a classic game. After that game, Miami rose as a legitimate power. In basketball, Gonzaga proved it's legitimacy over time and now is given it's respect in the quality of recruits, results on the court and deserved perception by basketball fans at large. If BSU and/or TCU make it to the final game I am cool with it. Their inclusion in the final game would be a first. It isn't like both schools have been making it to the final game on a regular basis. One of the obvious limits of football is that so few games are played. I really think OSU should limit their MAC games. But as most teams do, the MAC games will be replaced by other "lesser" opponents. In the case of the Big 10/11/12, this will be corrected in part with next years addition of Nebraska. As has been stated repeatedly in this thread, NCAA/BCS football and college sports are about very big money. Home games are important for all schools as that is the engine for entire athletic programs. Some "second tier" schools forego the home part of their "home and home" agreements because it is more lucrative for them to play against a big time program. As for the bowl games, it is well known that selections are based in large part on which schools travel well and also provide TV ratings. As far as who gets admitted to the bigger conferences, consideration is given to what each school offers to the full conference athletic program. And believe it or not academics do have some impact on who gets admitted! When Penn State was admitted to the Big 10/11/12, I believe they only had a club level hockey program. When Miami, Florida State and Notre Dame were admitted to sports conferences it was only in part. An interesting story about Penn State is how there has been a major financial contribution to fund a hockey arena that will soon include Men's and Women's hockey and possibly a Big 10/11/12 version of a hockey conference. A very good point was made pertaining to the conferences with championship games; I also believe those conferences shouldn't be punished for having title games.
  2. Yes!!! I have heard this! Also pilates and aerobics attract the young ladies. And if you ever notice who is doing most of the jogging in parks, beaches and road races...! In college, I took an aerobics class. There were two of us guys and about forty young ladies! Country music dance places are also packed with the young ladies. Being that I am a rock 'n' roll city boy the country bars never really hooked me but the theory is a great one. A number of ladies have suggested I take up the salsa dancing classes. I should give that serious thought!
  3. I would give him a chance to heal and then we'll see. Next season? Why rush things as this season is shot? I get both sides of the argument. Knowing what I know now would I recommend going after him. No. But now that he is with the Bills give it a real chance to work. I remember the 49ers giving up on Ted Washington years ago after his many injuries. Then, the Bills picked him up and it worked out for a while... until big Ted hit the turnstiles.
  4. I have seen too many big name college QBs underachieve in the pros. It is hard to believe when seeing some of these guys struggle like Carson Palmer and Brady Quinn who were both very highly touted coming out of college. The leap from college to pro is immense especially at QB. True, Fitz has been very impressive at times. His release, composure, moxy and winning attitude are impressive. I get the Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers logic. Nix and the Chargers set their minds to ensuring that would have a very good QB. As it turns out they had two and we know how that story has played out. Can the Bills do better than Fitz? Yes and possibly! I would prefer a stud pass rusher. Adrian Clayborn #94 for Iowa looks like a load. His stats aren't great because he seems to be the main concern for every opposing offensive line. Could he also underachieve? Definitely! At this point I don't believe the Bills will have a shot at Luck. Nix is a smart football guy. It took guts to draft Spiller and trade off Lynch. Spiller may flourish for the Bills while Lynch really laid a clunker yesterday. Nix could go any of a variety of ways with the #1. A stud defensive lineman helps the entire defense and ultimately the offense. Just get it right. Please!
  5. Dancing is hard enough but now they are starting an ice skating (dancing) show. I haven't watched the dancing competition, is Bristol really that bad? It would be smart to get people with a little athleticism so that it isn't as boring as some say. Pick on the analog tv or the old black and white if need be but God no, not the digital... Leaving the gun out of the tirade may work out better.
  6. I was just looking over the coaches won-loss record. He coached winners on all four teams that he coached (Habs, Leafs, Bruins and Devils). He will be in the Hall of Fame very soon. My father had the same cancers and lived for seven months after diagnosis. Colon and pancreatic cancers are usually fatal and quickly so. I hate all the cancers. I'm glad the coach doesn't have to suffer any more. Here is a link to the Montreal tribute for the coach before last Saturday's Habs-Leafs game, a very classy sendoff: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=544102 http://www.montrealgazette.com/sports/Former+Habs+coach+Burns+never+backed+down/3859428/story.html#comments http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Burns
  7. I heard the news on a Toronto radio station about ten minutes ago... http://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/article/894070--former-nhl-coach-pat-burns-dead-of-cancer-at-age-58?bn=1 RIP Coach...
  8. They towed it south and there it will sit for a while. http://web.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/nov/16/carnival-cruise-ship-out-of-commission-until-janua/ And the Peter Pan life form still lurks... It just won't die.
  9. As a player Clarett was very exciting to watch. His strip against Miami in the national championship came was a big reason why OSU won. He made some very big mistakes. The sight of all those guns in that car make me wonder about what else he did. This may be a story about someone who was surrounded by too many yes men and not enough people helping and teaching him to live smart. This story reminds me of Mike Tyson in that like Tyson, I wish for the best for Clarett and I hope his words and actions so far are a genuine measure of what changes he will make in his life. More than success on the football field, I hope he gets his degree and becomes a model father and parent. There are so many stories of ex-cons who don't change their lives for the better. We will see. Great interview, thanks for the link!
  10. Unbelievable. http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/nov/15/court-upholds-in-state-tuition-for-illegal/
  11. Sponge candy is great stuff but I would be a little wary about having my teeth ripped out! I seem to remember your avatar as one of the better ones... In fact, there are a number of the classics that have gone poof.
  12. Interesting, I will look into that option. Thanks!
  13. It is typical to expect the worst from the TSA. A couple of years ago, I was in the Buffalo airport dropping off family day before I was to take a flight back to San Diego. Someone bought me one of those Buffalo head on a stick dealios with the handle on the end that makes the Buffalo's jaw move like it is talking. So I brought the thing to the airport to see if I would be allowed to carry it on seeing that it could be construed as a weapon. The TSA people looked at it laughed and gave me the thumbs up. They don't usually smile about anything. The TSA people are kind of but not as bad as the Customs people at the Peace Bridge. It was cool to see them laugh! As for the food transport, I used to bring some Molson Brador back with me by plane but haven't done so in years. I have expected the worst so I don't even try anymore. Anybody have any recent experience with similar staples? Does anybody still send the frozen half-baked pizzas?
  14. After over a month of down time my account was finally re-activated. I sent numerous e-mails from different links with no response. Finally, right after I considered sending a letter via snail mail, I received an e-mail with an apology and word that I was back on board. There is life on the other side! The way that I connected was through an e-mail link that was for those who were "Disabled - Fake Name". Although my name is legit, this route seemed to get their attention.‏ I still don't see myself using Facebook very much although I do like how I can receive news links from my usual sources on one site. Thank you all for responding and helping!
  15. I was in downtown San Diego last night. The Cruiser is still sitting there. How do you replace an engine for a big ship like that? It reminds me of an empty stadium after a season or like the old Aud just sitting there lifeless. There aren't many spaces for ships so they are going to have to figure what they are going to do and where they are going to do it. Other Cruisers will need the space. A good number of people took the offer to stay in a S.D hotel and made the best of it. A friend who works at a SD hotel said they had set up eating arrangements for the cruise guests. He said it was very noticeable how hungry the people were based on how much they ate. It could have been a lot worse. Local TV coverage: http://www.10news.com/news/25677866/detail.html
  16. Not that I ever used the account a whole lot but I got locked out of my Facebook account a few weeks ago with seemingly no way back in. I sent an e-mail to a friend with a link to a news site and after I hit send, my account was shut down. I read over the web about how others have had similar concerns but with no clearcut solutions. The Facebook "Security Team" said that they suspected suspicious activity. I was using Mozilla Firefox which somehow is a negative with Facebook. Facebook suggested a solution of sending text messages or codes to a phone but that didn't work. Is there anybody out there with similar experinces and hopefully solutions? Facebook has become very large (too large) so my attempts to reach them went flat. I did try searching throughout the Stadium Wall Forums for similar stories but nothing came up for me. Any help would be appreciated!
  17. Yes, the Pacific Beach Ale House on Grand Avenue is on the last block before the ocean in Pacific Beach. From I-5 going north, exit at the Grand Garnet exit and stay left, take Grand almost to the end and park on any side street. There is no need to pay for parking. From I-5 south it is the same deal. There is an exit that leads to Balboa, Garnet and Grand. All three run parallel. Long story but Garnet from the beach turns into Balboa. The bar is next to a 7-11 and across from a fire station. If you desire to stay near Qualcomm, then the MacGregors location is exactly like an earlier poster expressed close but crowded with mostly Charger fans. The experience at the PB Ale House has been very good so far. Craft beer, good food, great staff. The view of the ocean from the top is very nice. The experience at the 710 Club did end bad. You will regret going in there if you are a Bills fan. Even though the Bears do not play tomorrow, avoid the 710 Club. We met some good people that worked there but the Bills and Bears fans no longer co-existed. In any case, enjoy the football and let's hope the Bills can get a win! Here is a link to the PB Ale House: http://www.pbalehouse.com/
  18. Did you ever see Weekend at Bernie's? Well... There is a mystery about what is already in place. Maybe the FBI could help us if they wanted so there will be less of a surprise down the line... I know being a Bills fan is very frustrating but keep the faith. That way it will be harder to ignore us when the time comes. I was talking to a Steelers fan recently who was impressed with how loyal Bills fans are. Bills fans are the strongest asset to the franchise. Don't ever think the Bills brass doesn't hear us whether it be the Lynch trade, coaching disasters, poor drafts, etc. It just seems like they don't hear us!
  19. The painfully true part was the mention of the grim Bills not being very attractive! As for a flourishing arts scene, that helps address quality of life concerns especially if that draws money into the Buffalo area and keeps it there. Money into the area helps but arts money alone obviously isn't enough. The mention of Toronto was interesting while in combination with Rochester and Buffalo. One could have simply highlighted Toronto by itself as having significant economic impact. Although, Buffalo really should better link itself economically to Toronto (not the Bills in the Rogers Center) as the greater Toronto area has upwards of 5.5 million people. I was in Toronto last May and was astounded at how large the city has become. The expansion of U.B. to downtown seems intriguing. Get past Bass Pro. A downtown aquarium mentioned by some might work well but as long as it is done well not second rate like the convention center. As for the people of Buffalo stop doing things that hurt thyself. Maybe that should come from the mayor, governor etc.! Overall, the article highlighted the pain and the potential. In sum, it was kind. Buffalo can do a lot better. Buffalo needs to do a lot better.
  20. If the Bills weren't going to trade for somebody who was going to help the team today, doesn't it make more sense to wait it out as running backs around the league start going down with injuries which might have improved Lynch's trade value? Fourth rounder and a conditional? Merry Christmas and Happy Dyngus Day!
  21. Kind of like the Canadians say rye instead of whiskey. Along with "white rum" instead of just rum.
