  1. I wish he had addressed the "missed extra point always comes back to haunt you" myth. That cliche should have been done away with by announcers the second the 2pt conversion was introduced.
  2. Kind of ironic- Moulds hated the West Coast Offense the one season they ran it while he was here....fast forward a few years and it's his only chance to stay in the league, given his decline in speed and increase in fatness.
  3. Winslow's not going anywhere. He just wants to get paid big money before his next catastrophic injury.
  4. I'd leave Parrish on punt returns- right now I think that's a no-brainer. Let McKelvin return kickoffs and play nickle while he's learning, allow McGee to concentrate solely on playing corner. Just my opinion, though. McGee is great on kickoff returns, but for a lot of reasons (not all his fault), hasn't been as dynamic over the past year and a half or so.
  5. It's impossible to feel sorry for a guy when they sign a contract intentionally with a large signing bonus and yearly salaries escalate out of control over the course of the 'pact. They know they're likely to be released 3 or 4 years down the road, they just want to get big initial paydays out of the deal. Plus, how many times have we seen a player get their big signing bonus, play a couple years, then get released because their cap hit is too high only to go to another team, get another major signing bonus and repeat the cycle? The players contracts aren't guaranteed...boohoo. The ridiculous up front signing bonus money IS guaranteed. I have no sympathy for them whatsoever. You have to know that Peters main intention with regards to renegotiating his contract isn't really to get up into the 7-8 million/ year category. He wants a signing bonus, roster bonus, etc, that will give him 15 or 20 million up front this summer.
  6. Greer was better than McGee last year IMO...we'll see if it continues. It's a good problem to have though...3 capable starters, 4 capable nickle backs, and two guys that apparently have untapped potential (Corner, Youboty) hanging around in camp.
  7. You're kind of ignoring the possibility of manipulating current (at the time) contracts. It might not benefit teams for the uncapped year, per se, but down the road after a new CBA is agreed upon there could be issues. Is there anything in place that can stop contract re-negotiations in 2010? Theoretically, say Jason Campbell is due to make 3 million that year and the same amount in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Snyder offers to tear that deal up and offer him 10 million as a 2010 base salary, and 750K as a base for the next 3 seasons. Player gets what amounts to a massive signing bonus...cap hit down the line is made extremely minimal as a result. An uncapped year is not good for small markets, no matter how it's spinned by fans and media.
  8. Give me a break- you guys make it sound like the Bills were snorting lines of coke off the bench, and that the gatorade jugs were replaced with beer kegs. If they were too hungover to play, they wouldn't have been tied with the Giants and Redskins after one quarter. They wouldn't have found a way to score first against the Cowboys in the first matchup, and then compile a halftime lead against them in the second. Stop making the excuses- we lost because our team's offensive line was far too often hung out to dry by the offensive scheme they used and were simply not physical enough against a good defense (in the last 3 Super Bowls). On the flip side, our defensive line was too small to stop the run. The Bills lost because they were finesse teams matched up against power teams in an era when the league trended toward physicality, and the team wore down as the games progressed. They just weren't good enough in 26 and 27, and in 25 and 28 it was a combination of getting worn down, poor coaching, and stupid mistakes that did them in. Maybe Marv Levy partied too hard leading up to 25, because most coaches would advocate running the ball a little more when your back is shredding the defense.
  9. I'm going to save you guys a lot of time by just telling you what's going to happen. Week 16: Seattle over San Diego Mia over NYJ Oak over KC Den over Cincy NE over Jax Balt over Pitt Ten over Buf Cle over TB Atl over Car NO over NYG GB over Minn Indy over Hou Week 17: Pitt over Cincy NE over Ten KC over Jax Oak over NYJ Buf over Balt Mia over Indy Arizona over SD Hou over Cle NO over Car Minn over StL GB over Chi Mark my words: there will be a 4-way tie among the divisional leaders at 12-4, Denver will grab the #5 seed at 10-6, and the 8 way tie for the #6 seed will go to.... Buffalo takes AFC East based on their 3-1 head to head record vs NYJ (2-2) and Miami (1-3). Cincinnati takes AFC North based on division record over Pittsburgh. Tennessee takes AFC South based on division record over Jacksonville. KC takes AFC West because they're the only 8-8 team from the division. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Tennessee (5-7) and KC (4-8) eliminated due to Conference record, (Buffalo 6-6, Cincy 6-6). ------------------------------------------------------------------- Buffalo and Cincy tie at 1-4 vs common opponents: Cincy: NE (L), BAL (W), BAL (L), SD (L), IND (L) Buffalo: NE (L), NE (L), BAL (W), SD (L), IND (L) ------------------------------------------------------------------- Buffalo takes #6 seed due to a strength of victory total of 64 wins, compared to Cincinnati's 59. For what it's worth, the 4 way tie at 12-4 breaks down as follows: 1- SD (best conf record, 10-2) 2- Indy (4-1 vs opponents common w/ Balt) 3- Baltimore (2-3 vs opponents common w/ Indy) 4- NE (worst conf record, 8-4) So Denver goes to New England, Buffalo goes right back to Baltimore for a re-match. Buffalo makes the playoffs at 8-8. So it isn't impossible. They would ONLY have to have at least 15, and maybe up to 20 other outcomes of games come out perfectly in their favor. Stranger things haven't happened.
  10. Thank you for an intelligent simplification of the process. It's better that you do the brain-work than I. Both scenarios seem plausible, scenario #1 even looks probable. I could find this out by looking at the standings, but scenario #1 assumes Indy beats Cincy, right?
  11. Games that will decide our fate next weekend: 1. Ten @ Buf. Bills must win. If Bills lose, you wasted two hours of your life figuring that sh-- out. As anal as I sound, you probably should have mentioned that in your post.
  12. Evans would be slower and less effective, Parrish wouldn't be in the NFL, Hargrove would be an undersized DT, Losman uhhh..well he's a QB, muscle weight won't help him, and Simpson wouldn't be quick enough to be a good FS. Other than that, I'm sure they'll all look great. The way training is nowdays, don't expect Kyle Williams to gain 15-30 pounds of muscle weight...these guys have been working out since they were 15 to try to become NFL players- their bodies won't mature that much more. If you want a secondary full of musclebound Roy Williams' types that can't cover, so be it...but the Bills are building around speed so don't expect 45 incredible hulks on the field in 2 years.
  13. I didn't- they should have put him on the big screen TV (can't call it the "Jumbotron" because it's not really that big) like they did in the snow game vs Miami in '02. They need to get Kelly out there roaming the sidelines in a New England home game if he's such a good luck charm.
  14. It wasn't THAT loud. I think Bills fans needed the shutout more than the team did- since the bastards stop serving beer at halftime, we were out of stuff to throw at the Dolphins fans that were still there. The Stormin Morman's bat-down provided that one necessary last second taunt in place of being able to throw 10 ounces of Budweiser at them...
  15. Royal's OK. Better than anyone else we have. Marv gets an A there because Royal's better than Kevin Everett. Andre Davis needs to get reps in the regular offense- McGahee included, Davis is, aside from Lee Evans, the only player on the offense that can scare a defense. He is great on ST, though. Tripplett's not an every down player. No power, not even a good penetrator. The type of soft d-lineman that has kept the Colts out of the Super Bowl 3 or 4 years in a row- shockingly, that's where he spent his previous years. He's a situation substitution, 3rd down pass-rushing DT, nothing more. Still, not a terrible signing, if only because the rest of the DTs are worse than him..... Anthony Thomas is NOT a compliment to Willis McGahee. Just because he's his backup doesn't mean he's a "compliment." They're the same player, McGahee's just a little bit better because he has more burst. It's nothing against him, but Thomas would be a compliment to Warrick Dunn, Reggie Bush, LaDainian Tomlinson, or Tiki Barber- he's just too similar to McGahee. I like him, but he's not a long term fit on this team if McGahee sticks around. Kiwaukee Thomas has been great...maybe Marv's most underrated signing... As for the draft, it's not a knock on Whitner, he'll be a really good player- but you don't take a safety in the top 10 unless he's going to be the next Ronnie Lott or Ed Reed. Can't complain about the day two picks in any way.
  16. Can't blame the Chief who touched it, it's instinct for a pro football player to try to make a play on the ball. It was bad luck mostly, and in my opinion a dumb rule- if a punt is blocked or tipped it should have to be advanced past the line to gain for the first down for the kicking team to retain possession. Still, it's not the dumbest rule ever- that distinction would go to the "unconscious guy that got jacked up by Nate Clements touching the ball with his helmet while his feet were out of bounds, Patriots retain possession" rule from that Buffalo-NE OT game back in 2000 or 2001 or whatever.
  17. I've always thought those two simply hang up on people that arent willing to regurgitate their topic of choice, then make some flippant comment that insinuates the caller was drunk or vulgar or whatever. It's too bad, because the two really do run the most (only) entertaining sports talk show in the area. Too bad they're too full of themselves (well, Schopp anyway) to look at things with an open mind.
  18. I'm thinking that depends mostly on who those teams beat/ lose to, to get to 9-7. For example, if Denver beats Cincy, but loses to SF, they're in at 9-7 in that scenario. If they beat SF, but lose to Cincy, it's not necessarily the same case.
  19. Saban's a B word- after seeing Gruden's antics a couple of weeks ago, I'm surprised he didn't kick a field goal on the "untimed down" just to be a douche.
  20. I saw him lined up in the backfield a few times today in passing situations, and it dawned on me that I think he'd be a perfect 3rd down back. Way too quick for linebackers, no real speed to beat a CB on an intermediate/deep route, pretty good blocker, very good at running after the catch. What are his biggest flaws? Speed and hands. As a 3rd down back he's be faster than his average counterpart at the position, and have good enough hands on dump-off/screen passes. Maybe it's too far into his career to make a full conversion but I think it's something they should look into- especially since, if he's out there, Parrish can't really be used in the slot unless they go to a 4WR set. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think it might be worth a shot- granted, I'm drunk, but I can't remember the last time one of our running backs picked up a 1st down on a 3rd down reception.
  21. Amen. How about either a receiving threat at tight end OR a running back who has ability as a receiver out of the backfield. We don't have them, but we'll have at least one out of the two next year. Better line, better receiving options, improved QB- I smell a top 20 ranked NFL offense! Thankfully we now have a coaching staff that isn't retarded.
  22. If anything, the lack of attention is doing the franchise a favor. Losman came into the league as an arrogant SOB, sucked ass in his first 16 starts or so, then finally started to get it. He's getting better- do we really need him plastered on the cover of SI so he can get good and full of himself again. Not trying to knock the dude at all, I'm becoming a huge fan, but sometimes a lack of media attention can be a good thing.
  23. One of the Bills' most glaring needs is an Eric Moulds' type receiver. Not Moulds himself because it just wouldn't work here anymore- but they need a big, physical guy who can complement their #1 receiver. Earlier in the year when everybody was saying the Bills missed Moulds because defenses were paying too much attention to Evans, I was of the thinking that Evans needed Moulds REPUTATION lined up on the other side of him more than Moulds himself. We have a ton of cap room, and Moulds was just going through denial about the stage of his career he was in. We could have overpaid to keep him (a good compliment to Evans), or we could have overpaid Peerless Price to be our #2 receiver even though he's the 4th best receiver on the team (Evans, A. Davis, J. Reed). Oh well.
  24. Hearing Shannon Sharpe's contrarian nonsense makes me happy the Bills weren't mentioned by those idiots. Remember the same thing happening in '04? Anyway, his two blatantly retarded opinions: 1- San Francisco (6-8) will run the table and beat out Seattle (8-6) for the NFC West title. HOWEVER, Seattle will still get a Wild Card berth at 8-8. By the way, SF finishes the season @ Denver in a game the Broncos will undoubtedly need, Seattle finishes up @ Tampa Bay. Riiiiiiight, Shannon. 2- He said that both the 8-5 Bengals and 8-6 Jags would miss the playoffs. He said the Jets would get in, but wouldn't say who the other team would be. Interesting, seeing as how Cincy is one of the hottest teams in the league. I don't think Jacksonville will get in, but to say Cincy will miss is ridiculous because A) they essentially have a game in hand on the rest of the contenders, B) they're better than the rest of the contenders, and C) since he already has the Jets missing the playoffs, theoretically the team most likely to knock Cincy out would be Denver- who he already has chalked up as losing to San Francisco at home in the finale. I'm sure he didn't think about any of that garbage, but since he gets paid to analyze stuff, maybe he should. It makes my head hurt.
