  1. Definitely boring...no speed, not a big tackle breaker, not an option out of the backfield. Just another case of an NFL team beating the sh-- out of a player for a few years, then casting him aside...and we wonder why Peters wants his money now.
  2. I don't know why the Seahawks even bother showing up for games on the East Coast...stay at home and rest guys, you never win them anyway.
  3. You could counter that by saying that Smith had the benefit of rushing from the blind side while most QBs could see White coming. I still think Smith was better, but the 3-4 vs 4-3 point is a lot more relevant than the RE vs LE one.
  4. Of course there's a possibility Brady will get hurt. It's always "possible." But they do play one of the easiest schedules in the league, so I wouldn't be looking for carbon copies of what the Giants did to them last year. A much better, and more realistic solution would be Moss getting hurt, forcing Welker into an awkward role as the #1 receiver...and leaving Brady without any major deep threats. Besides, they just failed to make adjustments in the Super Bowl last year...every other New England team I've seen this decade would have countered New York's strategy with a bunch of screen passes like they used to kill Buffalo with. I think last year they were just too full of themselves to think they could be stopped or slowed.
  5. Horn is washed up. Don't expect him to end up in Dallas as some are speculating...Jerry Jones basically came out and said they have no interest in Joe Horn. I know that doesn't always mean anything, but when it concerns an over the hill former star that isn't likely to get many offers in the first place, I think it holds some validity.
  6. Boldin is the ultimate pipe dream, but he's the best in the league at turning underneath patterns into big gainers. In that sense, he'd be a perfect compliment to Evans. Not a prayer it happens though.
  7. I agree- they're very similar, and equally mediocre. I almost want to say Denney's better because his contract isn't absurd...but all things considered, I think they're both just average NFL defensive ends.
  8. If more teams employ the Giants strategy of what....having the best defensive line in the league? Just don't see Schobel, Kelsay, and Ellis getting after Brady like Tuck, Umenyora, and Strahan. Can't see any team in the AFC doing it, for that matter.
  9. Neither of those 2 will be on the team. They'd go with 2 QBs before wasting a roster spot on that trash. One of Lorenzen, Sorgi, or Quinn Gray will be free agents in a couple weeks- SIGN ONE OF THEM. I still think they should have signed Gray this spring...
  10. I don't think McGee and McKelvin will be back for many kickoff returns unless it's a desperate situation (like they HAVE to score a TD or get the ball out to 50 to have a chance to win), or they're going to run or fake a gimmick. If it's the opening kickoff of the half or game, I'd expect McGee. If the Bills just got scored upon on a 15 play drive, look for McKelvin. April is a great coach, and I know they had a TD return vs Pittsburgh, but they also have a lot of guys to replace on the special teams unit that excelled for them the past 2 or 3 seasons.
  11. I don't know if there's enough of a body of evidence to support that. For every Earl Campbell or Ricky Williams, there's an Edgerrin James, Jamal Lewis, or LaDainian Tomlinson who were overworked early in their careers, yet still stayed productive for many seasons. Sure they'll become a little bit more prone to injury, but not everybody just falls apart overnight anymore. Tomlinson is just a couple months older than Johnson, and has more than twice as many career touches...it's too early to say Johnson is "clearly" on the way down.
  12. The Bills have much bigger problems than Robert Royal starting at TE.
  13. Rosenfels might be good enough to start in the NFL...mistake in letting him get away. Gotta say Fiedler was the best of that crew though. He looked like ass, but managed not to !@#$ up too much unless Nate Clements was across the field.
  14. Tough not to put a healthy Larry Johnson up there...they'll give him a massive number of carries to try to keep games close. They'll still suck, but Johnson should put up huge yardage numbers.
  15. Don't forget Webster Slaughter. I'd take Moon if pressed because he was a smarter player, but it's not be a lot...McNabb's athleticism makes up for a lot of Moon's intelligence. I don't buy the run and shoot factoring in...there Detroit and Atlanta played that system too, and none of their quarterbacks were ever thought of as even close to elite. Moon was a great player, as is McNabb. By the way, for those emphasizing Moon's accuracy over McNabb's, it's not really fair- while McNabb has played in a West Coast Offense, the majority of Moon's throws in the run and shoot were short "dink and dunk" type passes for 5 yards. The systems weren't that different, with the exception of a tight end being on the field.
  16. I remember about 7-8 years and 3 Super Bowl wins ago when Tom Brady had a "weak arm" and couldn't throw a deep ball for sh--. He sure learned how to do it. Edwards' arm strength is fine. The Bills need to focus on turning Evans into a complete receiver who can run slants and crossing patterns anyway. Coddling him by sending him deep every play won't make him more of an overall threat. The most interesting thing about this "story" in my opinion is that Hardy got separation on a bomb...that's not something I necessarily thought he'd be able to do.
  17. There are different types of coaches. Jauron (while he's never had enough talent at his disposal to make it conclusive) strikes me as a guy who can overachieve with a lack of talent, but lacks the gameday skills to vault his team deep into the playoffs. This year will be a pretty good reflection on what Jauron can do if he's given something to work with. You have coaches that can make lousy teams mediocre (that's what Jauron's done so far), mediocre teams good (Wade Phillips, Marty Schottenheimer, Bill Parcells post-Giants), and guys that can make very good teams perennial legit contenders. Win loss record is obviously the most important stat for a coach, but you have to consider that some guys specialize in taking teams to a certain level only to be replaced by a guy that can get them to the "next level" a la Gruden replacing Dungy in Tampa, Dungy replacing Mora in Indy, Shanahan replacing Phillips in Denver, etc. Sometimes it fails, like when the Niners ran Mariucci out, Vikings dumped Green, and Chan Gailey replaced Switzer in Dallas. Either way, I think Jauron deserves at least one more year to show what he can do with a little bit of talent. There aren't any excuses for him this year though...nothing less than 9 wins is acceptable to me.
  18. Rams definitely go under 6.5 Saints over 8.5 Dolphins under 5.5
  19. You could do a hell of a lot worse than have Todd Collins sitting around as your backup QB...I'd trade Losman for him, straight up, in a !@#$ing heartbeat.
  20. Brennan will have a long, un-prosperous NFL career. He's the modern day Ty Detmer.
  21. I really don't think the AFC is as superior as most do...the top 3 teams in the AFC (IMO- New England, Indy, San Diego), maybe Jacksonville are all probably better than the best NFC team (Dallas). But when you get down to the teams that are between 5th and 8th in their conference, it's about the same to me. The AFC North teams are going to take a hit playing the NFC East teams...only one playoff team will come out of the group of Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Baltimore. I really think Denver, Buffalo, and MAYBE Pittsburgh/Cleveland
  22. I also agree, great post and very well thought out. I like Crowell and would love to see him stick around...but he's hardly a franchise player...and prone to extended stretches of being invisible. And to the "great linebacker corps/core" poster...seriously? Let's see Mitchell prove that last season wasn't a fluke and that he's not the journeyman he looked like the years prior. As for Poz...I know, yes, he's our version of the Great White Hope...and while he did have some impressive plays in his couple of games last year, don't forget that the Bills got run the !@#$ over with him in there as MLB. If the money is reasonable, keep Crowell around. He's the best linebacker they have, but based on the last 2 or 3 years, that's not saying a ton. If the money goes over 5 million per he can take a hike as far as I'm concerned.
  23. I would predicted no chance of an EXTENDED Peters holdout two months ago....but signing Butler to that extension has to piss him off something crazy. I still think he'll be around within a week...his leverage is next to nothing. Not only because of his contract situation, but when you consider that the Bills have had a sh-- offense his entire time at left tackle and still managed to be somewhat in the playoff hunt after Thanksgiving. He's the best player on the team...but it's also a team that has accomplished nothing with him as its best player.
