  1. Nope, I don't think you're overreacting at all.  I agree with you wholeheartedly.

I don't mean to simplify this, but in my opinion, it really has got to be one thing moreso than anything else.... injuries.

No other area on the team has been ravaged by injuries as much as our secondary has, and that's just a fact.  For the entire season, we've started two rookies at the CB positions, and BOTH rookies have missed time due to injuries, so on top of standard rookie growing pains, neither is playing at 100% right now.  One of our safeties is out for the year, the other has missed half the season...and the dropoff in talent is SIGNIFICANT.  Let's face it, Hamlin has performed admirably, and done everything we've asked of him, but he's no Hyde, and Johnson has been brutal at times.

You give me a healthy Tre White starting opposite Dane Jackson, Taron in the slot, with the rookies coming off the bench, with a healthy Poyer and Hyde, and I can promise you we don't see the same struggles on 3rd and infinity.  Dare I even say, this team could very well be 9-1 or even 10-0.

  2. I agree.  I'm not a big hockey fan, but I do root for the Sabres, and did notice them doing well early on this season. I get the push notifications on my phone so I see the final score every night they play....and I couldn't help but think to myself, "damn, how many in a row have they lost??".  So thanks for filling me in....

It may not have been the prettiest win today, and yes, left alot to be desired, but for everything this team has had to go through this past week, and particularly the past 48 hours, I'm damn proud of them.  And this victory is as satisfying as any other this year...at least to me.

  3. A few points I wanted to chime in on.  Big C was spot on with his review IMO.

Even though early on Allen still struggled with accuracy, I loved that he made smart decisions with the football, took what the defense gave him, even threw it away a time or two, and most importantly, ZERO TURNOVERS.  I have to agree with several posters, he just looks uncomfortable out there at times.  Even on the sidelines, his facial expressions, his body language, just isn't the Josh we all know and love.  I'm hoping maybe it's just his elbow, and as it gets better, we see the old Josh.  Regardless, still very proud of the way he played today.

The PI call on Hamlin, I hated it.  Not saying that it was completely absurd OR that it didn't happen, but Hamlin IMO made an outstanding play!  He got his head completely around, timed it perfectly...yes, he had his hand on the WR's waist, but it was incidental at best...the ref should've let that one slide...

C'mon Gabe.  Guy makes the freak of nature circus catches look routine, but drops the ones that hit him right in the damn hands...Josh put that pass on a dime for him and he simply botched it, again.  It's like rolling the dice with him.

Again, just my humble opinion, but Cook, by the end of the regular season, WILL be our RB1.  I have little to no doubt he breaks a big one within the next three weeks.

Congrats Bass on tying Steve Christie today(and yourself) with six FG's.  And not only did you nail six FG's, every doggone one of them was picture perfect.  And someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but that 56 yarder, would've been good from 66....

Was it a pretty win?  By no means.  Did we make Jacoby Brissett look like the love child of Tom Brady and Mike Vick? Perhaps.  We've always had this knack for every once in a while making very average QB's play the game of their life against us. And yes, our secondary looked pretty bad today.  But for everything this team had to go through this week, from essentially having no real practice, enduring a historic snowstorm and needing neighbors and fans to help get them to the airport, and having to lose a home game and scramble at the last minute.... I'm filled with nothing but pride for my team, and my city, and this win honestly is one of the most gratifying for me.

JFC now illness is causing multiple guys to be out...could this season devolve into more of a disaster with team health?

I know illness is different, but for the life of me I cannot recall a season, ever, with so many injuries.  It's ironic that at the beginning of the season, we(and pretty much the majority of the national media as well) boasted having one of the, if not THE deepest rosters in the league.  Our depth was outstanding.

It has truly, truly been put to the test.  I'm really at a loss for words regarding all of the injuries we've had to endure this season.  I kept telling myself, "boy, once we get back to full strength, watch out".  At this point I've just kinda become numb. I know that every other team is dealing with injuries of their own, and noone is going to award us any pity points, but Jesus H. Christ, something's gotta give here....

At some point, I think you have to look at Fraizer's defensive scheme.

    This, 100%.

I wholeheartedly agree with you.  I don't possess the football IQ that many of you on here are blessed with, so please take my comments with a grain of salt, and know this is simply my humble opinion.  I feel like Frazier's biggest problem is his lack of adjustments, and what seems like his downright refusal to abandon the nickel D, even when teams are running the ball straight down our throat.  I believe you even mentioned at one point the Jets ran the ball eight straight times!  Now I get the Packers game, because even with us up by double digits in the 4th quarter the Packers continued to run the football, essentially giving us the game.  But other than that, I don't understand.  And this is not an issue that started this season. This issue has reared it's ugly head in previous seasons.

The kick Hollis made towards the end of regulation was nuts.  It hit the cross bar then in!

Dude I remember that!  I was at a sportsbar in Charlotte, North Carolina at the time, and had looked up a Bills Backers bar to go watch the game at.  I didn't know a soul in the building, and by the time he kicked that FG, we were all hugging and hi-fiving like we were lifelong buddies!!

Not since the Super Bowl year vs the Giants did have the feeling that Buffalo was the best team in the league, and it wasn't even close. Besides losing to an also injury depleted Jets team, most likely the #1 seed, as well a nice cushion in the division, the aura of this team since to have slipped away as well. I am not saying the attitudes of the players have changed, I am talking about people I know. Yes, Bills fans can overreact a ton after a loss, but this one feels different.

For me, I am terrified that our invincible QB has gone back to his old ways and that is a pretty scary thought. For the last 2 years, I suppose I never thought that Allen would be the reason we ever lost a game (especially one like yesterday). Although Mahomes is not always perfect, he is never the reason the Chiefs lose a game here or there. Keeping the 1 seed is a distance 2nd place in my list of concerns when compared to how Allen responds the rest of the season. In a nutshell, it just sucks when the Bills vibe is sucked dry on a Monday and today it just seems as though everything has changed moving forward. The Vikings game can't get here soon enough to prove me wrong...

    I share your sentiments completely.

I too have been a Bills fan for over four decades, and have (emotionally) lived and died with this team.  I was in high school at the beginning of their four super bowl runs, and in college the year of homerun throwback.  I remember getting so upset at my roommate because he laughed as Tennessee ran the ball in for the TD that I literally didn't speak to him for a week.  I used to get so excited after a win, and when we'd lose, I would avoid watching ANY sports shows or reading any articles the entire week.

As I've gotten older, got married, had children, my priorities changed, and the Bills went on their 17 year drought, I began to care less and less, the pain and emotional stress I endured seemed to just numb with time.

Then we hired Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane.   Then we drafted one Josh Allen.  I'll be the first to admit, I was as upset with the pick as anyone on this message board.  How wrong I was.  This franchise did a complete 180, and we went from laughing stock to NFL elite, culminating in prior to this current season, a great majority of the country picking the Bills to win it all this year.

As this team has grown, developed improved, and blossomed, so has my passion for our beloved Bills.  Wins are satisfying once again.  I actually ENJOY watching sportscenter, and reading all the articles.  Not only are the Bills winning, they are DOMINATING.  We've quickly become so spoiled that even when win, if it isn't in what's become customary blowout fashion, we come on here and vent and discuss what needs to happen or where we need to be better.  Last week, even with the double digit victory, we found plenty to find fault with, including JA17, who I'll admit, in my biased eyes, can do no wrong.  But yesterday.....I don't really have the words to accurately describe what I felt.  It wasn't anger.  It wasn't disbelief.  It certainly wasn't denial.  I may not post often, but if you look at my posts, you'll see I'm an eternal optimist.  A sunshine, lolipops and rainbows type of guy. I still remain optimistic, I'm still confident we WILL make the playoffs, and will be contending for that number one seed come January.  But yesterday's loss did something to me.  It filled me with an all-too-familiar feeling, one that I hadn't felt in decades.  I haven't turned the TV back on since the game ended.  I can honestly say, I DO NOT like this feeling.

I don't know what needs to happen.  I have my opinions just like the rest of us.  We can say Allen needs to be better, our run D has to stiffen up, we need a legitimate WR2, we need to finally establish a consistent run game, we need more reliable slot play, we need guys to get healthier and fast, etc....But what I DO know, and it's the only thing I can say for certain, is that I need Sunday to get here, like right now.  Like yesterday as a matter of fact.  I need something to wash this nasty, nasty a$$ taste out of my mouth and out of my head.

I've heard people say winning cures everything.

    I really hope they're right.

Please forgive the lengthy post, but I really needed to get that off my chest, and I pray it was okay to share amongst my fellow Bills fans.

    Let's go Buffalo!

  8. I still remain highly confident in our team.  Am I hurting right now?  More than I have been in years, and I'm not really fully sure why, but this one effing stings.  HOWEVER, I take solace in the fact that we played our absolute worst game of the season, and the Jets played a darn near PERFECT game to come away with a 3 point victory.  Both of our losses have come by a combined total of 5 measly points.

Everyone has the right to be angry, and the right to vent, I'm not trying to take that from anyone, but make no mistake, this is STILL an elite football team, and come January, I have faith we'll still be in the hunt for not just the playoffs, but the number one seed.

  9. Guys,

I know we are pissed off right now, and you all have the right to be, and also have the right to vent....but let me just say this....

Yes, we lost today.  IMO, we lost the battle on both lines of scrimmage. Allen looked pretty bad yet again, AND threw an uncharacteristic red zone int for the second week in a row. I know you don't want to hear this right now, but make no mistake, this is STILL an elite football team.  Hell no we didn't play like one today, but facts are facts.  We are 6-2.  Both losses, although yes they were division losses, were away games.  Both the Jets and the Dolphins have to return to Orchard Park.  As someone pointed out, we played our worst game of the season, by far, and the Jets played a darn near PERFECT game, freakin flawless football, to come away with a 3 point victory.  Both of our losses have been by a combined total of 5 measly points.

I have faith that this loss will light a fire underneath this whole team, players and coaches included, and they WILL rebound from this.  Noone today, and I mean noone, is above criticism.

I'm never happy about a loss, but maybe, just maybe they needed this to happen.  Better it happen now than towards the end of the regular season.  I fully expect to see a completely different team next Sunday when we face the Vikings.

I am in bed with covid and had nothing to do, so I re-watched Bills @ Jets 2019 game. For those who don't remember, it was season opener a we were down 0-16 in mid 3Q but managed to come back and win 17-16.

Defense was playing great whole game, but Allen had 4 turnovers in the first half including unlucky pick6 by CJ Mosley (bounced from Cole Beasley's hands). He was great in the first drive until fumble, then quite ok, and then looked really bad trying to play hero ball early in second half. Then suddenly we got Devin Singletary going, Allen settled down and managed very nice GW drive with 3:00 to go. Defense then shut Darnold down and we won. Game was for sure affected by Mosley's injury; our run started once he went down in the middle of the 3rd quarter.

Couple of things I find interesting:

    1. Allen's inaccuracy was the main theme for the announcers, esp. Harlan. Can't blame them much though after his rookie season. Fun times lol.

    2. Universal thought was that Darnold is/will be the better QB of the two. Fun times indeed.

    3. In offense, this was the first game Allen had any receivers at all. John Brown had 123 yards and a TD and was great imo, as he was whole 2019 season. I think he helped Allen a lot.

    4. Rookies were Oliver, Ford, Singletary, Knox, D. Johnson, J. Johnson and Sweeney. Almost all of them played. Oliver looked good and Sweeney looked like we may had something in him. Singletary was great once he got a chance behind Gore. He had 4 rushes for 70 yards and 5 catches for 28 yards. He essentially changed the game since our first TD was all him. It was nice to see, since before he had a chance to show something Shady McCoy had like 6/60 for the Chiefs and people were questioning how we could let him go and keep Gore :)

    5. Speaking of Gore, wow. We didn't like Moss running for 2 yards last 2 years but man Gore was something else. I don't want to bash someone with his career but he really looked slow and old in Bills uni.

    6. Jets offense was Bell and Crowder. It was Bell's first game after a year and he looked good. Then he went on a disappointing season (789y, 3,2y AVG) and his career essentially ended. Other than them, Jets had nothing. Robbie Anderson had 3/23.

    7. It's really interesting how similar our back 7 looked to what we have now. Edmunds, Milano, T.Johnson, Hyde, Poyer, White, Neal. Only Lorax and Levi Wallace are gone now.

    8. There was a brutal turnover on Jets roster. It is only 3 years away, and unless I missed someone only CJ Mosley, Q.Williams, Braxton Berrios and LS Hennessy are on their current roster now. That's almost impossible to manage imo. EDIT: They also had LB Shepherd and DE Franklin-Myers as inactives so that's 6. For comparison, Bills have 21 from that day (including Phillips, Lawson and Marlowe who came back).

For fun I also read the game day thread :) Lots of hot takes even from reasonable posters, but you can imagine it was even worse than these days, since nobody knew what Allen will become and people were used to losing much more than today. If somebody has nothing to do:

    https://www.twobillsdrive.com/community/topic/217960-bills-at-the-jets-98-first-half-thread/

    https://www.twobillsdrive.com/community/topic/217961-98-bills-at-jets-second-half-thread/

It is worth mentioning that success of other relevant QBs on that day didn't help either. Ravens destroyed Dolphins 59-10 and Lamar was 17/20 for 324y and 5TDs. Mahomes was 25/33 for 378y and 3TDs, all of them to Sammy Watkins who had 9/198 lol.

    Get well soon brother

Hmmm, this thread actually seems to run strangely parallel to the incident in question... trying to stir outrage over a perceived slight that was actually pretty tame in actuality. @smuvtalker, you, sir, are a message board flopper!!

Lol my bad.  Perhaps my homerism has blinded me to the fact that maybe he does flop or plead for a call every now and again.  But in 100% honesty, I really cannot think of a time when I saw him do this.  Again I actually felt the opposite in that he takes quite a few hits that could've easily or even should've drawn a flag.

  12. I did a search prior to posting this, my apologies if it's already being discussed.

I just finished watching a clip from The Carton Show on a preview of the Bills Jets game, and Jets DE John Franklin-Myers was quoted as saying that Josh Allen pleads with the refs for penalty calls....and all I could say was....

    ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

First off, this is the DE who singlehandedly cost the Jets the game last week with his boneheaded roughing the passer penalty.   His stupid penalty wiped away an 85 yard pick six that would've essentially put the game away.  So what does he do for an encore?  Brings up a player completely unrelated, and tries to say Allen is a flopper, and pleads with the refs for calls. Let me say this.  I'm as big a Bills fan as anyone, and I've been guilty on more than one occasion of having a biased opinion when it comes to our Bills, but this comment is pure absurdity at it's most impressive.  Josh Allen in my opinion has NEVER flopped OR pleaded with the refs for a call he didnt deserve.  If anything, Allen takes way more hits with no flags called than pretty much any quarterback I've seen with the exception of Cam Newton, MAYBE.  I believe that a big reason for that is his aggressive running style, and also that he's probably better at dishing punishment out than any other QB to play the game.

Jets players and coaches alike have got to be wanting to shove this guy in a closet for making comments like this prior to the game.  As if Allen and company needed any additional motivation, I'm sure this raised some eyebrows in the Bills locker room.  Sometimes I really wonder what is going through a players mind when they make these type of idiotic statements.

If we have a healthy Poyer and Tre in the Secondary going into January, if the OL continues to progress as a unit, and if we can avoid any major injuries the rest of the way to other key players, then there is no reason we can't finally hoist that Lombardi this year. The #1 seed is actually a big deal despite how some act like it doesn't matter. Having that bye week and the promise of every game being at home is a HUGE advantage, especially in our case. This team feels different though. You can sense in every way they are on a mission. From the FO, to the coaching staff, to every player on the field, they all just seem to have that Mamba Mentality right now. It's beautiful to watch. We are not unbeatable by any means. Any given Sunday, you know? But I love how they've had a couple of hard fought, close victories pulled out in the last minute against other division leaders. I also like that they've tasted a bitter loss already this season as well. These things build character. I truly believe this team has what it takes to be the last team standing in February, but there is A LOT of football left between now and then.

    Well said sir....... well said.

As a forty plus year fan, I can truly say this season feels unbelievably different, and special.  Monday night's game was such an oddity for me, seeing the team come out as flat as they did in the second half, Josh throwing two costly picks(one in the red zone which he NEVER does), the D uncharacteristically not being able to slow down the Pack, yet the outcome was never really in question.  A double digit snoozefest, if you will.

Like you said, when this team is firing on all cylinders, boy oh boy, they are as unstoppable and dominant a team I've ever witnessed.  Praying the injury bug packs it's bags and goes and sabotages another team and leaves us alone the rest of the season.  People always talk about so many things needing to happen for a team to hoist the Lombardi trophy, from luck, avoiding injuries, etc.  We've been dealing with major injuries to this team since game one, and our only loss came in a game we lost by two points, and for all intents and purposes, we should've walked out of there with a W.

  14. I will say this.  I was definitely as confused as many others yesterday watching Green Bay continue to run the football as the clock simply ticked away.  In my mind I did feel a bit like they were kinda throwing in the towel.  There was way too much time remaining with them down three scores at one point.  That's the reigning league MVP under center, I don't care if you've got Kelvin Benjamin with turf toe, Antonio Brown with a lot on his mind, and Josh Gordon with an ounce of gangja in his socks, IMO you let Rodgers air it out....

So yeah, last night probably was the first time the thought crossed my mind, "uhh, is GB just giving up?"

  15. In my yahoo pick em league, in weeks one and two I made picks for every game EXCEPT the Bills games.  Buffalo was victorious.  Week 3 I made picks for ALL the games, obviously picking Buffalo to beat Miami.  We all know how that game turned out.  SOOOOO, every week since week 3 I have made my picks for every game EXCEPT for the Bills games.  End result, W for our Bills!

(Side note: I've also stopped wearing Bills shirts on game day.  Yesterday I made the mistake of wearing my white Bills Mafia long sleeved t...after Allen threw that 2nd pick I quickly took it off.  Problem solved! 👍

A win is a win. Very ugly,  terrible tacking, old BAD Josh in second half.

To me again, the biggest takeaway is that we need a power RB, that can get tough yards and grind when you need it like in the second half tonight. I really hope Beane can get something done. Probably a pipe dream, but imagine Jacob's on that team.

I respectfully disagree.  I thought BOTH Singletary and Cook played excellent tonight.  They played like the one-two punch this team needs, and if cook continues to develop and grow, our backfield, IMO, is set.  I am so happy Beane didn't just go out there and sign a RB before the trade deadline, or give away precious draft picks.

Week after week Motor continues to improve AND impress.  I have ZERO problems with Beane not acquiring another RB to this roster, and rolling with what we have.

It's really a wonderful feeling to play a dreadful entire second half of football and still walk away with a double digit win.  This team is truly something special.

I thought Singletary looked excellent out there that first half....he ran well, was decisive, hit the hole hard and fast, and looked good catching the ball as well....

Then Cook comes in and looks good as well.  I don't think you could've asked for a better first half from either of em, and something tells me we're gonna see a healthy dose of both this 2nd half....

No problem...Here is why I hate it when people just share the video and don't discuss the context of what actually happened.

    • The woman was causing a lot of problems in the room before they entered the hallway with all the people in the room with Hunt, including the girls.
    • They repeatedly asked her to leave while inside the room and she refused.
    • Eventually they got her into the hallway where Hunt was pleading with her to just leave already, nobody wanted her there, she still refused.
    • At this point she called him the N word which was what caused Hunt to react so poorly.  You can see the exact moment it happens in the video too where he is first calm and just pleading for her to just leave and even has his hands together like in a prayer motion.  Then he see the moment she calls a N word he immediately gets upset.
    • The women refusing to leave also were instigating contact and a guy in Hunts group got shoved and fell into the girl which is what initially knocked her down.
    • Hunt compounds his poor reaction and mistake by giving her a light kick on her butt in a shoving motion to push her further away to leave.  I mean the kick was less impactful than parents spanking a child, it wasn't some huge act of violence like people exaggerate it to be.

I do NOT condone being physical with women.  Hunt was 100% in the wrong on how he chose to react.  But man, this incident keeps getting retold incorrectly and over sensationalizes what Hunt actually did from a physical stand point and totally ignores any responsibility the woman played in this incident of being the initial trouble causer and instigator.

This is not like when Ray Rice hit his girlfriend in an elevator.  Hunt made a mistake, but its no where near the level people like to say it is.  And he wasn't a guy with prior off field issues and he has done all that was asked of him since then, did all the courses, and cleaned up his act.

People make mistakes...he was a young guy who put himself in a bad position from the get go then reacted badly to being called the N word by a person who was already causing problems and refusing to leave.

But he atoned for his mistake and was given a second chance and has done everything right in Cleveland with it so far.  I think this incident is behind him, something he grew from and not indicative of his character of who he is today.  And all you hear from those around him is praise ever since.

Well said Alpha, I couldn't agree more.  Before I actually watched the video, all I was hearing is "Oh Hunt kicked a female." Like you said, I absolutely don't condone hitting women, but his case was overblown if you ask me.  I've seen harder kicks at my 10 year old niece's Ju jitsu class.

I would absolutely be happy with Hunt being brought in to pair with Singletary for the right price.  A 2nd?  Not so much only because we just spent one on Cook, and I still believe we haven't seen his best football of the season by a long shot.  I would be okay with a 4th, and perhaps a 3rd...

I think there is a good chance that Shakir is a significantly better WR than McKenzie.

I most certainly wouldn't be upset if this comes to fruition, but at this exact moment I would give the edge to McKenzie just based on his experience, and the fact his speed MUST be respected.  His presence alone adds another dimension to the offense with his lighting fast speed.

However, I will say Shakir looked very good yesterday, and agree with those who talk about how fluid and smooth he looks with the ball in his hands.  Loved his concentration on that TD catch, because in my opinion, that wasn't an easy catch especially with the defender in the position he was in.
