    F*****g hilarious!!  😅

True story, that was the first movie date I ever took my wife to see when we first started dating.  I sat in the theater and cried laughing throughout the movie, while she just sat in mortified silence staring at me.  It took like three weeks to get a second date.   I think it was because halfway through the movie, I said, "excuse me, I will return, I must go to the sh*thole to remove dirt from a-noose." 😄

He’s certainly not the best guard, and he’s been inconsistent over the course of his career…. However, Williams is certainly capable of blanking a pro bowl pass rusher at RG or RT when he’s firing in all cylinders. Definitely not the worst contract on the roster. Particularly when he eliminates the need for a swing tackle.

Agree completely.  Again, I have to ask myself, was Williams play subpar this past season, or was his play LAST season such a positive surprise that this past season his mediocrity at his position caused me to feel as if his play dropped off....

Seems to me I had a little look, and guards actually command higher salaries than RTs.  Maybe the top 4 RTs make more than the top 4 guards, but Williams is actually the 10th highest paid RT but would be the 15th highest paid guard.

I don't think he's a guy you ask to take a pay cut: I think he'd say "then give me a cut cut", and given the Bills current depth at tackle I think that would be a dingbat move.

Agree 1000%.  I personally don't think Williams play was subpar at all.  I think last year was just such a pleasant surprise, and he far exceeded expectations, whereas this year he, IMO, leveled off and played pretty consistent football. I would not include him amongst the bigger issues I had with the lines play this past season.

  4. Couldn't be happier to hear this news!!!  Count me squarely in the camp who thought he was a goner simply because he played his buns off the last few weeks of the season and in the playoffs and would land a much more lucrative deal to play elsewhere.  He completely solidified Josh's trust in him, showed off his afterburners as something that our offense, WR position in particular sorely needs, AND my money is still on him to win the KR job outright this year, and give us stability at a position that we all at some point held our breath this past season.  No need in lyin, I'm harder than Chinese calculus right now....GO BILLS!!!

  5. I have no problem with Star being a Buffalo Bill this upcoming season.  The bottom line is, we were a better defense when he was in the lineup than when he wasn't, and I for one thought that his play was a tad improved later on in the season,  noticeably getting after the QB moreso than run support, IMO.

I highly doubt he accepts a pay cut, and wouldn't necessarily blame him if he didn't.  But seeing as of right now the options we have other than Mr. Lotulelie, I'd much rather have him than nobody.  Now if somehow we were able to land one Jordan Davis in the draft, I might say eff Star lol.

I joined here as a lurker “guest” in 1998, and had some boring names for many years. Feel like I hit my stride with Miyagi— favorite movie is Karate Kid, and Mr. Miyagi brings a zen-like calm to this board!

True story.  The first movie I ever got to go see, by MYSELF, was the Karate Kid.  I believe I was 10 at the time it came out, and I already had a job!  I would walk my neighbor's dog every day after school. I'll never forget, he was a German Shepherd named Dallas, and she paid me 1 dollar per day.  So by that Friday, I had earned myself 5 big ones, and my neighbor, the sweet lady that she was, knew I was going to the movies to watch the Karate Kid, gave me an extra 2 bucks.  Do you know that seven dollars bought my movie ticket(prime time 7pm), a bag of popcorn, a little box of junior mints, and a large Hawaiian Punch??And after the movie was over, I crane techniqued myself all the way home 😄

    Christian McCaffrey

Hear me out...look, I loved the effort put forth by Singletary the last 4 weeks of the regular season and the playoffs.  He played his butt off, and now he has something to build off of heading into next season.  But I think we have seen the best of what Singletary can provide us, and personally, it's not enough.  I still think he hesitates when it comes to making a decision, and hitting the hole with vigor and "authoritae".  More importantly, (to me at least) he's missing that 5th gear, that homerun, threat to take it to the house any time the ball is in his hands.  I would love to go into the season with another RB in place to at the very least be that change of pace back, because as of right now, it doesn't appear that Moss is up for the challenge, and I don't think Breida will stick around to give it another go.  I believe Mostert could be had for a reasonable price, and McCaffrey, though oft injured, I believe could shine splitting carries and not being relied on to be the workhorse back.   And if things don't work out with him we close the Carolina pipeline shut with kwik-krete.

  8. Nice topic OP!  Here's my 3 cents:

    1. You've been a fan since:  1981 is when I remember watching Joe Ferguson hand it off to Joe Cribbs, and throw passes to Jerry Butler.  The only defensive player I was aware of at the time was big Freddy Smerlas.

    2. Your first Bills memory: Besides the above mentioned, the first TRUE memory of rooting for my Bills was in 1990, when we played the Cleveland Browns in the playoffs.  Ronnie Harmon dropped a sure TD pass in the end zone, then one or two plays later Kelly was picked off in the end zone, I think by Clay Matthews....that was my 1st memory of true anguish as a Bills fan.

    3. One of your favorite Bills memories:  Beating the living hell out of the Raiders 51-3.  On the Bills 1st touchdown drive, Kelly dropped the snap, had time to pick up the football, dust it off, re-polish it to a high shine, and still throw the TD pass.  I think I knew then the rout was on...

    4. Your favorite player of all time and your favorite player currently: Jim Kelly/Josh Allen

    5. Some of you guys have some awesome forum names. What does your forum name say about you?

Actually, Smuvtalker was a nickname I picked up in college and it just stuck with me through adulthood.  Ask my daughter tho and you'd think my name was Cheese-a-saurus.

I would really like to see McKenzie re-signed.  Aside from the fact I believe he can be even better as a return man, his speed on the field is undeniable.  He brings a whole different element to the passing game when he is on the field, and as the season progressed, it was obvious Josh developed more confidence AND chemistry with him.  I think Beane should do what he has to do to retain him.  Would he really cost that much to re-sign?

His lawyers say he has corroborating witnesses. The question of course is whether they are willing to risk their careers speaking out? The NFL tends to close ranks on perceived trouble makers even if they are justified.

Personally, I feel like Flores is committing career suicide by pursuing this lawsuit.  I have little doubt that he has some type of evidence to back up his claims. Going up against the giant that is the NFL, even WITH evidence he's fighting an uphill, severely lopsided battle IMO.  And why?  He must really be finished coaching in the NFL, because I find it very difficult to believe another team will give him an opportunity after this.

Dude...that's not it. The only thing that happened that "made him hit her" if true is that he is an absolute piece of ***** human being.

I acknowledge that was a careless statement, seeing as though I wasn't there and don't know exactly what happened.  Matter of fact I just came from ESPN.com and in reading their story, apparently the physical contact that occurred was he grabbed her hand and attempted to yank off her wedding ring, and in doing so, scratched her finger.

Something I've wanted since Allen and daboll got here was to see more no huddle the way new England ran it with Brady. Also, while we probably need to add a better running back than moss, I have no desire to run the ball more or have some kind of elite running game. For 17 years during the drought, we watched this team run way too much and have little success (from a win standpoint). It's a passing league and I do not want to see this current bills team go backwards. Our best running threat is Allen and it should stay that way

While I agree with you that (sadly) Allen is our best running threat, count me amongst those who would like to see less designed QB runs.

Look, Allen is a freak of nature, an anomaly, a unicorn.  I adore his skill set, and to be honest, it's clearly evident that Josh devotes himself to improving his running every year with the same passion and vigor that he does improving his passing.  But IMO, it's not sustainable.  Daboll at times rode Allen's legs too far, and there was one reason for me to be happy to see him go, that was it.  In 2022, I'd LOVE to see Allen's designed QB runs decreased significantly.

Even though you're agreeing with me, I think you overstated the case a bit.

I don't think our run defense is a huge liability now. But they did have a couple of awful games against the run and a couple more bad ones. And ramping up the pressure, they are getting old or they're FAs.

Horrible Harry is an FA. I'd guess he's coming back, but it's not a certainty. Star has been a good player through most of his tenure, but he's getting old and he simply wasn't the same player after Covid. Will he be what he was? Can they overlook his availability issues?

They've got to be building for the future through the draft. That's the way to use the draft and Beane is well aware of it.

If they like this guy and think he's a fit, he'd make a good choice if he's there. Too early to be sure whether or not he's likely to be there. Could be there, could be gone.

BPA at a position of need. Space eater is a position of need. But so are WR, IOL, CB and pass rusher. But IMO if he's there and they think he's a fit, he'll be a real consideration.

You mentioned that you don't think our run defense is a huge liability "now".  Does that mean you considered it to be one earlier at some point this year and don't any longer?  If so, what changes did we make that makes you feel better about it?  As you mentioned, we stand the very real possibility of losing Hughes and Addison, our two best pass rushers.  Obada, who I thought really turned it on towards the end of the season, is an UFA, and may have opened enough eyes to warrant testing the FA waters and signing with someone else.  I too am praying Phillips re-signs with us, and Star, while I wouldn't mind seeing back, is a question mark to me because I'm not sure if his heart is still in it.  I feel like a player like Davis has the potential to not only be that space-eating, run-stopping force we'd be hoping we get, but could also elevate the play of everyone around him(particularly him freeing up Oliver from double-teams, keeping Edmunds and Milano clean and free to do their jobs).

I know this is all speculation, but I just feel like our run defense is more of a problem than we perceive it to be. Just my honest opinion.

You ask how their inability to stop the run caused them to lose to KC? And you're really not sure of the answer?

Problems with run defense was a major factor in two or three losses this year.. The First Pats game, the Colts, probably one or two more.

We win even one of those games and we play the Chiefs in Buffalo. That's how our inability to stop the run caused us to lose to KC in the divisional round.

Not that I'd mind WR, OL or CB. Or pass rusher. Not a bit. But a great space-eater instantly makes Oliver and Edmunds better as well. Star's availability issues are real and had consequences. He wasn't the same guy after Covid. IMO they'll absolutely consider this if Davis is still on the board when we pick.

Well said.   If you take just two games last year, the two where we were absolutely destroyed by a RB, the Titans and the Colts games, those two games to me were a true indictment of our inability to stop the run, PARTICULARLY when it mattered most.  Going into the Titans game, we had won four in a row, had just whipped the Chiefs in Arrowhead, and had all the momentum in the world.  The Titans relied on Henry exclusively, and the world knew it.  Tannehill wasn't scaring anyone, and we knew going in if they were going to beat us it was going to be on the legs of Derrick Henry.  What does he proceed to do?  20 carries, 143 yards and 3 touchdowns. 7.2 ypc average.  UN-stoppable.  Fast forward 4 weeks, and here come the Colts.  Again, we were facing a team who was extremely one dimensional.  Carson Wentz struck fear into the hearts of zero defenses.  Jonathan Taylor WAS the Colts offense.  This should have been a game where Leslie Frazier lost no sleep whatsoever, because his pre-game speech should have been, "stop #28.  That is all."  What does #28 proceed to do?  32 carries, 185 yards, 4 touchdowns, 3 receptions, 19 yards and another touchdown.  5 TOUCHDOWNS.  And to be honest, 20 carries, 143 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 32 carries, 185 yards and 4 touchdowns, while that doesn't look good against your run defense, they're not the worst stat lines ever. It's the fact that they did that against you KNOWING they were the only threat you'd be facing from that offense.   They lined up, said "this is what we're about to do.  Stop us."  And we still couldn't do anything about it.  If that isn't an indicator that your run defense has serious problems, nothing is.  The bottom line is, our run defense is a huge liability right now, and it's masked by the fact that we were ahead by so many in alot of our games last year that teams eventually had to abandon the run.

I'm in agreement with those of you that say Davis will most likely be gone by the time we pick, BUT, if I'm Brandon Beane, and Davis there when we pick at #25, I'm breaking one or both of my legs full out sprinting to the mic to turn in my card.  Yes, we've spent the majority of our high draft picks on the D Line the past few years, but a guy like this falls to #25, you pull the trigger without a second thought.  I could see if we were picking top 10, but 25 is a no brainer for potential like that.

I really like motor, but to be honest, I hold my breath when he runs. He runs extremely violent, refuses to go down, and takes a beating because of this. What happens when he goes down with an injury? We need a very capable RB 1B option as a change of pace option. I would like some bigger than Motor and faster if possible. But not in Rd 1 or 2. We need CB2 and IOL for those picks.

You bring up a very valid point.  I think because not many people on here look at Singletary as THE guy, coupled with the fact that he has never truly wowed us with many uber productive games (125+ yards rushing), we've never really had to think about how we would perform without him.  In thinking about it, I am a little bit nervous at the idea of it just being Moss as the featured back.  It would put serious unnecessary pressure on Josh, and I thank God Daboll is gone if only just for that scenario, because I can see him calling an obscene number of designed QB runs.

I'll be honest, I had extremely high hopes when Buffalo signed Breida in the off-season.  I even envisioned him competing for the starting job at some point in the season, and the game against the Jets on 11/14 where he had a rushing and receiving TD, I thought to myself okay here we go.  But I guess the fumble issues he had in both the running game and return game saw him fall out of favor with McDermott.  Sadly, Breida has that homerun potential we all crave, and is a certified threat to take it to the house whenever the ball is in his hands.  I would have liked to see him get more of a chance to run with the 1st team.  What is his current contract situation?

  16. 16 hours ago, Niagara Dude said:

I like Singletary as a primary backup but I don't see him explosive or fast enough to be starter on title team.  That KC game highlighted his lack of burst and speed on the one series where he failed to hit the open hole fast enough on the 2nd & short play.  I really believe the Bills need to get a 3 down big play RB and that will remove the need for designed Josh Allen run plays which I don't like.  Allen cannot continue to take all these shots,  bring in a RB with burst and great speed and out offence improves from last season. Yes the line needs to do better and maybe add another mauling guard,  but RB position has needed an upgrade for the past two seasons.  Even Beane mentioned it after last season

Absolutely spot on, I couldn't have stated it better if I tried.  I know the play and exact series you're referring to in that game.  But you bring up an even more relevant topic in that having that 3 down, homerun threat back will most certainly lessen the need for a good many of Josh's designed runs.  I won't say that I don't like them, but the more valuable Josh becomes(which I also fully believe he will win his first MVP award next year), the more I hold my breath.  Having that complete back to lighten that load has the potential to work wonders in multiple areas of the offense, almost like a domino effect.  Great point again.

Singletary wasn't on the field when the coaching staff and defense cost us a SuperBowl.

Upgrading the interior OL is fine but the priorities are CB and DL.

Not disagreeing with you at all, in fact I wouldn't even say upgrading the RB spot is a NEED.  To me it is just a definite want, and it is BECAUSE of how dynamic this offense has become already.  To jump back into an earlier thread where it was asked if we felt the Bills took a step forward or backward, my answer was a resounding step forward, and it was mainly due to the maturity and development of Allen, the gelling and finding the right combination along the O line, and Singletary's improvement in the second half of the season(amongst other offensive improvements).  But IMO, if we had a back with homerun speed, there's no telling how insane the offense could be.  I get visions of Tecmo Bowl and Walter Payton.  His player on there was simply unstoppable.

Improved OLine talent and coaching will make EVERY running back better. And possibly save Josh’s life.

Indeed it will, but doesn't the thought of having a RB who's a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball make this already lethal offense even more potent?

IMO, having a back like that could take the offense to a whole different level.

I thought so too.  Several sites had us taking Etienne as well, and to be honest, I would not have been upset with that pick.  I know Najee Harris had a great year for a rookie with the Steelers, but I don't remember hearing anything about Etienne.  How did he end up doing this year?

Like Kenneth Walker III alot. He's projected late 2nd round.  If he runs around a 4.45 he might go early 2nd?

Yep, currently they have his 40 time listed as 4.46, and projected as a high 2nd round pick.  And for what it's worth, Walker has also been quoted as being the most complete back in the upcoming draft.

The fastest listed prospects 40 times are Cincinnati's Jerome Ford(4.36), and Iowa State's Breece Hall(4.39).

Speed does kill, and I salivate at the thought of having a sub 4.4 back in our offense.....very sexy.  I know speed isn't everything but just thinking about it in the context of our already dynamic offense, my God...

  20. Like the great majority of you, I was very happy with the play of Devin Singletary from the last 5 games of the regular season (starting at Tampa) and both playoff games.  I thought he ran with more purpose, was more decisive with his runs, and refused to go down on first contact much more so than early on in the season.  He also became more of a threat catching passes, as evidenced by him having 5 multiple reception games in his last 6 games as opposed to 5 in his first 12.  I'm sure it can be argued that some of his success can be attributed to the improved play of the offensive line, as well as finding the right combination along the line.

As pleased as I was with Singletary, I still ask myself, is he the long term solution at RB we've been looking for?  And personally, I still think we can/should look to upgrade the position.  I know that Beane even said something to the tune of we are always looking to improve at every position.  I like Singletary, I think he's got a good attitude.  When he was demoted he took it in stride, continued to work hard, and when his number was called, he answered the bell.  However, I think he has average speed, and still can be a little indecisive at times when it comes to making a decision which hole to hit, committing to it, making that one cut and taking off.   What I truly fantasize over is that back with that homerun hitting, breakaway speed, the one who's a threat to take it to the house at any given time, from anywhere on the field.  I know they don't grow on trees, but I know they're easier to find than alot of other positions.

looked at the top RB prospects coming out this year, and like QB, there doesn't seem to be any "can't miss" stud RBs coming out this year.  The consensus top backs look like Michigan State's Kenneth Walker, Texas A&M's Isaiah Spiller, Notre Dame's Kyren Williams,  Cincinnati's Jerome Ford, and Michigan's Hasaan Haskins.  Per SI's draft board, none of them project as day one picks.

It's nice knowing that we have a capable guy in Singletary, but I'd love to see us upgrade at the position, and this off-season.  Moss regressed this year IMO, and I have my doubts as to him ever being the featured back in our offense.
