I was thinking that prosecutors usually won't pursue charges if the witness disappears or refuses to cooperate.

And a confidential settlement can specify that the settlement is void if the parties discuss what happened (including in court)

But you do have a point in that the video evidence might make a huge difference.  I guess it depends on the DA.

I agree that the league will suspend him, and should.  The video with Hunt, while against a woman, was relatively "milquetoast" and the young woman suffered no injuries.  Hunt was suspended 8 games.

Just finished watching the Hunt video for the first time.  Okay, if Hunt got suspend 8 games for THAT, Kamara could be looking upwards of 71, 72 games.

Sheesh, I'm a STAUNCH critic of men who put their hands on women, but I gotta agree with you, that video was rather softcore IMO.  8 games was obviously the league making an example out of him.

I really, really want to see this video now.  Noone seems to have a copy. In due time I suppose.

In relation to football, losing Kamara for a quarter, half or longer is going to be a huge blow, but I think the impact will be significantly greater because of several factors.  The uncertainty at the QB position, regardless of who is back there. The Saints best bet IMO is to have Winston win the job and start the season as QB1.  They're going to need Kamara there as not just the dynamic back that he is, but I think his blocking abilities are underrated, and him being that safety valve for dumpoffs and screen passes is crucial. Plus, they still don't know if their number one WR will even be there come opening day.

what culture that Alvin belongs to promotes throat tattoos?  Can't think of any.

Good points.  It does depend on the DA.  If the DA want's to go after Alvin, he can subpoena the victim.  At this point, it's "the state" v. Alvin, not the victim.  And the victim has to cooperate if summoned.

BTW, is this video in the public domain anywhere?  All I can find are recaps.

Good point.  You and Hap both reminded me that even if the state does in fact pursue charges against Kamara, and even if they go for more serious charges, it's all moot if the witness doesn't cooperate.  And if Kamara throws the right amount of money at the guy, I would imagine he'd most certainly not cooperate.   Again, I haven't seen the video, but if it's bad as described, I can see the league suspending Kamara to the tune of, my guess would be 4 games minimum, if he's lucky.

I assume the "associate" was also arrested, or will be soon

Kamara is pretty certain to face a civil suit, and can possibly make the criminal charges go away if he settles large and fast.

While I'm 100% in agreement with you on the civil suit Hap, do you really think he can make the criminal charges go away so easily?

I didn't see the video, but it sounds like they beat the brakes off this guy to say the least.  Kamara punched this guy 8 times, and it's noted that three of those times where while the guy was on the ground already knocked out cold.  Holy crap Alvin, that's some straight up BS.  To me that speaks volumes to his character.  It's one thing to hit a guy, but to do it 8 times and 3 after the guys already out?  I'm surprised all they did was fracture his orbital bone.  Me thinks the league is gonna come down swift and harsh on him, regardless of what happens as far as criminal charges, but if I was a gambling man, I'd feel pretty comfortable wagering a pretty penny that these charges stick, and wouldn't be surprised if the DA decides to upgrade them.  Doesn't sound like aggravated assault is too far of a reach to me.  And we all know, video just makes it all worse.  This brings Ray Rice to mind. (I know she was a female, which makes it a gazillion times worse, but we're talking about video of a guy beating a guy down and still hitting him after he's knocked out)

I think the other poster's perspective on it is the way the Bills will approach it, though.

It's only a savings of $1.5 million to cut him.  Star would be a fantastic backup/rotational DT.  He was still pretty good on the field this year.

And to further support your comment, IIRC, his level of play went up a notch late in the season, particularly the 2nd Pats game as well as in the playoffs.  I was all for letting him go while he missed game after game, but when he was back on the field, he was, IMO, a difference maker on the line (and wasn't too shabby getting after the QB)

  5. I was born in Buffalo, and my mom moved me to Northern Virginia when I was only one, but I got to spend every summer in Buff, and visit multiple times a year, and I gotta say pizza in Buffalo is the bees knees to me, and if we're getting specific, my top 3, in order from 1st to 3rd are Leonardi's, Bocce's, then La Nova.  Sweet mercy my mouth is watering right now just thinking about a slice from any one of those places...

My head tells me Dalton or Winston would be great gets though. Both have had success in the league. Same with Mariota to a lesser extent.

Darnold makes a lot of sense especially w/ his Allen friendship and the hiring of his QB coach Joe Brady, but if my reading of Spotrac is correct his dead cap hit of $18M+ would make it tricky or impossible.

Edit: Did not say Trubisky because I believe he goes somewhere for a chance to start.

I share your sentiments darn near to the tee, as I too would have Trubisky as my 1st choice simply because he knows the system, has the tools, and we wouldn't miss a beat.  But literally Dalton and Winston IMO would be outstanding pickups as QB2(i would lean a little more towards Winston just because Dalton is getting a little longer in the tooth, plus I believe Winston is as physically gifted as any QB on the list, and if he can limit his int's like he did this past season in the limited time he saw, I'd be gung ho for the pickup).  Fitzy because we all love him, and I would say yes to Darnold because he's just gotten a raw deal and no continuity.

  7. I'm gonna do some Italian hoagies.

I buy some Dietz and Watson honey maple ham, Genoa salami, pepperoni, and capicola.  I layer the meats on an oversized hoagie roll, generously top it off with some smoked provolone cheese, a dash of Italian seasoning, and set it in the oven for no more than 8 minutes at 400...

Pull it out, add my lettuce, tomato, mayo and Italian dressing, and voila.

As easy and basic a recipe as you'd imagine, but dee-licious.

I guess that's why they play the games....credit to the 49ers for hanging in there, battling the elements, playing lights out special teams, and pulling off the biggest upset of the playoffs so far...

While you are not wrong, I’m going to have to also reference the guys that they’ve kept in-house. They are homegrown towns, but the re-signing of White, Milano and Allen were very good signs. These three were guys that we historically would’ve had far greater risk of losing, and in the case of Tre and Milano, would have most definitely lost.

This just simply CANNOT be overstated.  These in-house re-signings were effing huge, IMO.  Matter of fact, I had already emotionally moved on from Milano, grieved his loss, had begun to attend support groups for those coping with the death of a loved one, because I KNEW there was no way we'd re-sign him. When I got the text message notification that we had re-signed Milano, I literally lost my cookies.  I was ecstatic, but even more so, I was befuddled.  And not only did we re-sign him, he gave us a hometown discount!

It's moves like these that truly reflect the change in culture, the organization as a whole.

Don't judge the KC fans at the game (people who have actual jobs and money) VS internet fans....

I promise, you show up in the parking lot at Arrowhead, you'll be offered all beer and BBQ you can handle by random fans who'd be glad to have you share in the festivities.

I don't post on Chiefs Planet either.

late to the game, but I would also like to weigh in on condiments.

Ketchup....great for fries, burgers, hot dogs...I also enjoy it on hot links and gas station burritos.  Hienz is my preffered choice as some others have mentioned...but if you happen to come accross a bottle of Red Gold brand...that's some good stuff too.

Mayo...I'm ok with it mixed with kechup....never as a stand alone...and especially not as a dip for fries!  Miracle Whip, however can do some stuff...good on a ham sandwich, great to make Tuna salad with....best tuna you'll ever make...Miracle whip, dijon mustard, and Sracha sauce...makes a real nice sweet, heat, tangy tuna salad.

I learned from this place to do Bleu Chees with wings...not ranch.

I've seen the beef and weck mentioned here a few times......I have got to try one sometime...sounds really good.

Ketchup also good to add to Chili from time to time of you want to sweeten it up a little.

....don't need to debate A-1 sauce for steak etc...but I love to have some of that with a baked potato or even a little on the side to dab in potato salad.

For those going to KC for the first time.....get some BBQ.

It's all good for the most part...Gates is expensive and mostly living off their reputation at this point.  If you get Gates, just asked for a mixed plate dry and extra bread.  You get a little of everything and can make some sandwiches out of the bread...and you can get your own sauce.

Joes is your 1st choice.  Get a Zman.

For a fancy, high end experience and the best fried mushrooms, you do Jack Stack

If you like it extra sweet....do Slaps

the BEST KC style beans are at Zardas (also sold in grocery stores)

Cheapest is Rosedales...a KC tradition....the sauce is not a KC style sauce..vinegary...but the ribs are cheap.

    Best ribs is Johnys.

Q 39...high end high quality....Burnt Ends SO GOOD.

Avoid Bandanas if you even see one

Rib Crib and Dickies are NOT KC BBQ.  Those are chains and should be avoided.  Espeically Dickies

If you don't mind being in a kind of grimy, dingy place, but you want a staggering mountain of meat and fries, you go to the original Arthur bryants.

Thanks for all the great tips on BBQ spots to try, next time I'm in KC I have some well-informed options to consider.  Agree with you I love me some miracle whip, PARTICULARLY on a ham sandwich!!  And i also second the tuna salad being zesty and delicious with miracle whip...Weird thing for me though is I cannot eat a ham sandwich without miracle whip, but a turkey sandwich i cannot eat without Hellman's mayo...neurotic me...

Since you gave us some great tips on KC BBQ joints, allow me to share my personal favs when it comes to Buffalo spots for wings, pizza, and a delicious mind blowing steak sub...now please understand that while I'm originally from Buffalo, I moved away when I was just a kid, and only returned for summers as a child, and then just to visit relatives as an adult.

My personal favorite for wings would be La Nova, on W Ferry.  Man their chargrilled BBQ wings are the stuff of legends.  Duff's is a not so close 2nd, although their wings are probably bigger and meatier than La Nova's...their pizza holds its own too, but my 1st choice for pizza in the Buff would be Leonardi's...mmm.  Now, if you ever get your mouth set for a juicy, overstuffed mammoth of a steak sub, there's a hole in the wall spot called Shy's Original Steakhouse, on Fillmore Ave...its in the hood, you're gonna wait at least 30-45 minutes for a sub, but I promise you its worth every second...their steak and sausage sub is hands down the best steak sub in the city, IMO.  There used to be a spot called Rick's, on Woltz, that made a legendary steak sub but they closed down years ago...

Anyway, those are a couple of my personal favs if you're ever lucky enough to make it to Buff...I make it a point to eat at all three of those spots every time I go home 🙂

    lol

    m

I'm glad you brought this up, because this is something that has basically sat in the back of my mind for quite a long time now, dating back to very early in the season, I can't remember which game, but a defensive coordinator I believe even went as far as to say something along the lines of, "if Allen wants to keep running the ball the way he does, we're gonna treat him like a runner", insinuating that if given the chance they were gonna hit him and hit him hard.  I know for a fact many defensive players have taken issue with Allen and his rushing abilities and his reluctance to slide/run out of bounds.  I spent a great majority of the 1st half of the season in fear for Allen's safety, and literally held my breath every time he took off with the rock.

But as the season progressed, and really only until a few weeks ago did I realize something.  I mentioned this earlier in the thread, or perhaps in another thread, as much as Allen has developed his game as a passer, he's done the same as a runner.   He is making much smarter decisions on when to tuck it and run, he's taking much better angles now, making him an even harder target to hit, combine that with his deceptive speed and long strides, and his runs now more than ever are simply back-breaking to the defense.  You simply cannot gameplan for what Allen can do to you when adding his rushing element.  And now that he is improving on what seems to be a week to week basis, defenders are going to have a hard enough time just bringing him down before a 40 or 50 yard gain, the last thing they have time for is trying to make ESPN's top plays by laying Josh out.  And I agree with you 100%, there is most definitely some jealousy, some anger, and plenty of frustration with some of the defensive players out there...but because of the unique running skillset Allen is bringing now on a weekly basis, there simply isn't an opportunity for one of them to cheap shot or intentionally hurt Allen unless it was BLATANTLY long after the whistle, in which we're talking not just a flag, but ejection/suspension and hefty fines.

Jeez....6'5, 245, elusive speed, runs with power, not afraid to truck or stiff arm you..

I'm beginning to truly understand and accept the term "unicorn" for all that it is.  Josh Allen truly is one "unicorn" of a player.  All jokes aside, I feel pity for defensive coordinators, defensive players period going up against Allen.  There is simply NOTHING YOU CAN DO.  Blitz him, he'll shred your secondary to bits.  Sit back in coverage, he'll take those 10 yard plus runs as long as you give em to him, OR he's become patient enough (even Brady-esque, I dare say), and he'll dink and dunk you to your coffin.  Pick your poison sounds so cliche right now but that's really what it boils down to.  In my opinion, a defense's best option right now is to just hope that Allen has an off day and gives away a few turnovers..

He has a super loooong stride. I think that contributes to this perception you mention. He may not have an explosive initial burst, but he's great at picking a spot to run with little/no initial contact and a clear path downfield; so he's able to build up a head of steam pretty quickly.

Yesss....great point you make about him picking a spot, then poof, gone.  His decision-making skills are constantly improving with regard to that, which gives me much relief, and allows me not to have to hold my breath every time he tucks it away and takes off.

What's really funny is that even though Josh is 6'5 and close to 240 pounds, he just does not give defenders much to work with when it comes to getting a nice, clean, big hit to lay on him.

  14. I saw that on ESPN.com this evening.  Super cool stuff.  I don't know much about her as a player but this is the 2nd year in a row she's advanced to the 4th round of the Australian Open.  Love the outfit she wore for her match, Buffalo love down under!

I agree with all this except the prediction.   I think they will try to save Josh’s running for red zone opportunities, big games during the season, down the stretch and the playoffs.   I think they have to save his body for those occasions.    But without doubt, this offense is better when he runs.

I wouldn't be surprised with that at all.  The funny thing is though, as valuable as Josh is to us as a quarterback, his running ability makes him every cent as valuable, because of the fact that you simply cannot gameplan for his ability to generate huge chunks of yardage with his legs...I mean it is insane how effortless it seems for him to get a 1st down for us when the defense calls the seemingly perfect play to stop us on 3rd down and Josh cooly takes off 3 strides later he's 20 yards down the field.  I swear I do not envy defense coordinators the week they see Buffalo on their schedule.  And like I was saying earlier, the most beautiful thing to me in all this is he's only becoming an even better, smarter runner with the football...it's a thing to behold to see how every year Josh takes these awesome strides in his passing game to become a more complete quarterback, yet I totally have been overlooking the fact that he is also evolving and improving his run game.  Scary stuff if you think about it.

Has there ever been a 4,000 yard passer and 1,000 yard rusher?

I think that happens next year for sure with Allen.

Could not agree with you any more.

The crazy thing(s) about Allen's rushing ability are, at least to me:

    1.  His speed is so deceptive.  Josh Allen is effing fast.  When running the ball, it's not like he looks slow by any stretch of the imagination, but before you know it, he's already run for 20+ yards.  It's crazy to see him take off and simply leave D lineman and even some linebackers in the dust.  I can't for the life of me(aside from the slip and fall at the Tennessee game) remember the last time he DIDN'T get a 1st down, by a country mile.

    2.  As great of a runner he has become, he's still only finding ways to get even better.  I used to hold my breath every time he ran.  Now he's becoming an even smarter runner.  He still isn't afraid to bowl over a defender, hurdle one, or stiff  arm the living crap out of one, but he's also smart enough now to know when to slide.  My biggest fear with regard to him running was that defensive players were taking exception to him running the way he has been, and that someone was looking to make an example of him if given the opportunity.  But because of Allen's maturity, he limits those opportunities much more so now than before.

    3.  The simple fact is, Allen is just a big, fast, physical specimen of a QB, and to be honest, there really isn't much defenses really CAN do when he takes off with it, except to hope to tackle him.

I'm with you 100% in that next year I do believe he will be the 1st QB in NFL history with 4,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing.

I can't make it to the game since Fairbanks Alaska is about a 5 day drive to Buffalo even if Canada is open.  So here's some unsolicited advice to Bills buddies who will attend in person, from a place with REAL winter.

Start with the warmest boots you can find.  Cold feet will just make you miserable.  The warmest day in Fairbanks lately is still quite a bit colder than Saturday night's game in Buffalo will be, but even in balmy Orchard Park this Saturday I would not plan to sit still for hours outside unless I had warm boots.  A pair of sneakers or regular shoes will just not do.

After that, layers is a good idea but it's not like you're going to find yourself too hot and want to remove a layer or two.  Usually we use layers here when we're going to be working hard outside or the temperature will be changing, and those factors don't apply here.  But layers will help trap body heat.  The Costco here sells insulated pants and if you can find them it's worth the cost of getting them.

This is one day when you'll be glad to have your covid mask on.  It will keep the lower part of your face warm.  Or get a hat with a full-face covering except for eyes and mouth.  Reduce the amount of exposed skin.

A parka if you have one is a good idea, adding a hood over your hat protects your neck and upper body.  My heavy parka here would be too warm for the game (it's made for -40 or colder) but the heaviest one you can find in Buffalo might be a good idea.

Finally, you probably have been outside on occasion in fairly cold conditions, but it's a good idea to do a test before Saturday where you bundle up, and then just go sit outside for half an hour or so.  You'll find out quickly where improvements are needed.

That last point seems on target.  It's like the WRs were thinking more about their discomfort than they were about route adjustments based on coverage.

The run defense in the first Pats game was vulnerable because the Bills tried to go with their usual personnel, and that turned out to be too light.  In the second game they switched out a CB and replaced him with Neal or a LB, and that extra poundage helped a lot.  Harris still had some good runs but he wasn't the lethal runner as he was in the first game.

Thank you for the great tips on dressing warm good sir, much appreciated.
