Newly hired LB coach Johnny Holland has already
Spiderweb replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As refreshing as that is to hear, it certainly happens far too seldom in today's society. Now when it does, we condemn everyone involved..Thanks LA. Why should it be so strange for anyone to actually put their family first??? -
More than anything else, what limited OJ's catches were his own hands of stone. Rauch, Bills HC in OJ's rookie year, actually wanted to make him a WR. OJ's hands sucked and the crazy experiment that Rauch wished to implement went straight to the crapper. That was a good thing, or we might have missed out on some exciting years of OJ running the ball. Running was OJ's game, and that's it folks. No blocking, and pass catching - barely adequate at best, and in reality, sub-par. Nice of you to pick out his absolute best as receiver though. OJ never caught more than 30 passes (which was his rookie year when Rauch, HC, often had him split out as a WR.), Yet you fail to mention Thomas' contributions after his 60 catch season, which were 49. 62, 58, 48, and 50 immediately following. Fact is, as a pure runner, OJ had the edge, but Thomas buried him in in blocking and receiving, and Thomas was still a great runner in his own right. Did you actually watch both of these RB's careers, or is this simply another voice of opinion without knowledge of the actual facts at hand? Pure runner, OJ for 5 years. Complete back and overall best - TT.

Ok, maybe there were other factors but the best Bills record mustered during the OJ days was 9-5. OJ, the great runner he was, had hands of darn near stone when it came to catching a pass. Block, OJ? Yeah sure. He was a runner, pure and simple. For five (that's it folks, only five) years he was a site to behold. Thurman had 8 years of plus 1000 yards, OJ had 5 and wasn't even close in any other year. Thurman's rookie year of 881 was short of 1000 only because the Bills gave Harmon playing time. The only area Thurman lacked in the running game was in speed. He wasn't going to out run many opponents. I watched them both. I loved the homerun threat OJ brough to the table. Yet, Thurman did it longer and again, was far more the complete back, which is exactly my point. as a pure runner, and for the 5 year period, sure OJ was phenomenal, but as a one sided back, and again, only for 5 years. My only disappointment with Thurman was his cave in performance against Dallas in the Bills 4th SB. Two very key (10 points for the Cowboys) fumbles hurt the Bills beyond recovery. Then he wouldn't return (leg cramps?) after the second fumble. And.....hey Marv, why dust off the shovel pass for that SB? Marv...you were out coached again.......Yet Marv again tried the shovgel pass once again against the Jags, in Kelly's last game as a Bill, in a playoff loss. Sanity? Had you watched both of their careers, from beginning to end, you might understand my position.

How do you all feel about Mel Kiper
Spiderweb replied to PSU_Mouse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Had a few references such as, "hey BF, what about....", etc., and that made up my mind. I'm sure you can understand not wishing the acquire that handle.... Besides, the new name is a play on my last name (Webb) and "spider" is a nick name I've had all my life. It was time. -

While OJ may have been the best pure runner we've ever had, he pales in comparison the the complete package Thurman brought to the Bills. For Thurman to be overlooked, the voters would have to overlook his excellence in all phases of the game. He surely has been missed.....

Bills to Play Regular Season Game in Toronto?
Spiderweb replied to JDG's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Unless Mexico does something quick and decisive relative to the illegal immigration issue along our borders, along with our own all talk but no action Congress, Senate, and President relative to this issue, I would place them in the same boat we hold Cuba in, and Cuba isn't even a speck of an issue compared to Mexico. Alas, big business would never stand for it, yet....... -

How do you all feel about Mel Kiper
Spiderweb replied to PSU_Mouse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is it his hair or that here's a guy making one heck of a living doing what he loves that gives the naysayers that green color? Ok, let's bash his "can't miss" failures, or his underestimating of some others. Why not? After all he is the only person on the planet who's ever been wrong about a players talents and fit in the NFL. Dag, every team in the NFL, going back long before Kiper, has drafts that are litered with absolute failures, bad choices, near misses, and the occasional surprise. Ladies and gentlemen, the draft is a crap shoot. At best you roll the dice on those who you feel has the best odds. Irritating delivery and/or tone of his voice aside, he's as good as there is out there. Yet, in true Bills fan fashion, he gets more than just a mixed bag regarding giving him his due. My my, the color green suits so many here................ -
Is Cover 2 the end of Milloy?
Spiderweb replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good point (Lynch). As the Bills run defense was bad this year, Milloy was used more in run support so his cover skills usually were lost (good or bad) with him up near or at the line of scrimmage. -
I've only taken the Monday after the SB off once previously. However, I've been off from work since Dec 22 to Jan 03 on vacation, and then had rotator cuff surgery Jan 4. I haven't been to work in approx a month and a half and I'm now targeted to return Feb 20 (just saw the surgeon again today). A little pain medicine and a bunch of brewskis ought to have me going great guns by 10:00 PM Sunday night! Sadly, I wish I cared more about who wins. I guess I'd prefer Seattle over the chin if I had to pick one. It will all depend on well Seattle does aginst Pitts "D".
-
Except in West Virgina, Tenneessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia, NC & SC. In those states, "Teeth" is both pural and singular.
-
Even though he has a "Heart of Gold", it seems "Southern Man" doesn't want him, and after four dead in "Ohio", he's not likely to be a hit here either. I suspect whoever drafts him, will be left "Helpless". Despite fans screaming, "Long may You Run", they'll soon realize he's no QB. That's "Rockin in the Free World" folks.

"blown anyway...." must have been a tad too subtle...

Bates Declining Bills DC Job Offer!!
Spiderweb replied to D' men's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why are we still discussing the Haslett for HC or DC? Doesn't anyone recall his comments ('roids) in which he insinuated that two of the Bills most liked players (Hull and Hansen) were indirectly referenced as users? I would not be surprised if Ralph and now Marv do.... Haslett - crazy player who once kicked (albeit rather poorly) Terry Bradshaw in the head...........let it go.............
