National Football Post: By Joe Fortenbaugh Posted February 28, 2009 Sources: Saints Interested In Tomlinson Sources close to the situation have informed me that the New Orleans Saints are “looking closely” at San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson. The Saints would have a “high level of interest” if the Chargers were unable to come to terms on a new deal with Tomlinson. Tomlinson has spent all eight years of his NFL career in San Diego. He rushed for 1,110 yards and racked up 12 total touchdowns in 2008. Last season was the lowest yardage output of his career. More on this story as it develops.

I like the interest in Hangartner. Go over to the Carolina message board and they sincerely have respect for him as a player, he has versatility, he has size, the Panthers don't have the cap room to keep him even if they wanted too, Jordan Gross their best lineman is actively campaigning for the Panthers to keep him. More importantly, with the sheer number of free agent lineman we have brought in over the last several years, we are due to hit on one, aren't we?

But Fitzpatrick is a 2 bagger. -
By Joe Fortenbaugh Posted February 28, 2009 Breaking: Kitna Traded The Detroit Lions have just agreed to trade quarterback Jon Kitna to the Dallas Cowboys, sources close to the teams have just informed me. As of right now, all I’ve heard is that the Cowboys have given up “late picks” in exchange for Kitna. More on this story as it develops.

Matt Cassel traded to Chiefs

I'm thinking Pioli, after having so much success with the Pats, actually might know what he is doing. -
Interesting Coles story
In space no one can hear replied to TimGraham's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pennington is being tempered in his comments, well aware that he would be slapped silly by Parcells if he campaigned "publicly" for the Dolphins to sign Coles. I'm sure having his good friend join him down in Miami would be extremely appealing to him. -

Update from Buffalo Rumblings: (or back track) Edited this at 9:23 for clarification on one point re: Coles. Many are misconstruing “he’s still here” with “he’s spending the night” or “they’re negotiating” or other such inferred points. I’ll make this perfectly clear: I was informed that Coles had left One Bills Drive this afternoon, but was planning on spending at least a portion of the evening in Buffalo. Beyond that, I have absolutely no idea what’s going to happen. He may stay the night, he may schedule another visit, he may be abducted by aliens. I just don’t want folks getting the wrong impression. Coles didn’t leave Buffalo immediately after his tour at OBD, but I can neither confirm nor deny that he’s still in Buffalo at this moment. Underneath the Buffalo Rumblings article that was cited, the writer added 2 more comments in the discussion that followed: "There’s a difference between leaving the building and leaving the city. As I said in the article, Coles is still in town, and there’s a rumor circulating that he was in Buffalo last night as well. He’ll be in Buffalo at least through this evening". Yeah, they are chugging along at their usual 7-9 pace. Some enjoy these 7-9 seasons and think we are about to make a leap forward. Others look at these 7-9 seasons as the ceiling, and with such an inept management team in place making the decisions, we are about to drop through the floor. -

The hype doesn't seem overwhelming to me considering our current number 2 WR (Josh Reed) has 9 TDS in 7 seasons. Might be room for an upgrade don't you think? -
Jets sign Bart Scott
In space no one can hear replied to KD in CA's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rotoworld: Bart Scott reportedly is going to give the Ravens a chance to match the Jets' five-year, $40 million contract offer. In an effort to break the story, many national sources said the deal was officially agreed to. But it was never signed and it now appears Scott is having second thoughts and wants to give Baltimore another shot. We don't see why Baltimore wouldn't match now, but it's no lock. We'll find out shortly. Feb. 27 - 2:57 pm et Source: Newsday -
BREAKING NEWS: as per agent press release- February 27, 2009 -- On the first day of NFL free agency , 3 time Super Bowl champion Lonie Paxton has agreed to terms on a 5 year contract with the Denver Broncos. Lonie's new contract will make him the 2nd highest paid longsnapper in NFL history, and his signing bonus was the 2nd highest ever for a pure longsnapper. Lonie has spent the first 8 years of his NFL career as an anchor on the Patriots special teams units, helping both Adam Vinatieri and Steven Gostkowski earn Pro Bowl kicker honors. He is perhaps best remembered for his "Snow Angel" in the end zone following the Patriots huge game winning FG in a blizzard to end a 2001 playoff game against the Oakland Raiders, en route to their Super Bowl win over the Rams.

Ouch! Fri Feb 27, 2009 11:01 am EST OL Brown could command $8 million By Jason Cole A deal is in place for free-agent guard Jason Brown to get upwards of $8 million per year and become the highest paid interior offensive lineman in the NFL, according to a source. The flabbergasting part is that Brown was offered upwards of $8.5 million by one team and turned it down, a source close to Brown said. Agent Harold Lewis confirmed that Brown was in St. Louis visiting with the Rams on Friday morning as free agency hit its first day. Brown, who played the first four years of his career with Baltimore after being a fourth-round pick in 2005, is expected to surpass the $7 million threshold for an interior offensive lineman, which was set in 2007 by Minnesota guard Steve Hutchinson.

Patriots deal Mike Vrabel to Kansas City Chiefs acquired Mike Vrabel from the Patriots for an undisclosed draft pick, pending a physical. As friendly a trade as you'll see. Bill Belichick and buddy Chiefs GM Scott Pioli both know Vrabel's strengths and weaknesses, and his leadership is worth more to the young Chiefs. He'll help be a coach on the field as Kansas City installs their 3-4 defense. We suspect Vrabel will not be an every-down player, and will focus on rushing the passer. He was due for a lesser role in New England, who will go young at a thin OLB spot. Feb. 27 - 2:24 pm et

From Rotoworld: Buccaneers acquired TE Kellen Winslow from the Browns in exchange for undisclosed draft picks. We'll guess it's a second-round pick and a late-rounder. The Bucs will likely give Winslow a new contract too, so it's a costly move. They needed the pass-catching help badly, though, and Winslow is still only 25 even if he's had knee problems in the past. He's not a great bet to play deep into his 30s, but getting away from Cleveland's QB controversy can't hurt his outlook. Winslow has averaged over five catches a game the last three seasons and is one of the league's top five receiving tight ends. Feb. 27 - 12:23 pm et
