Whoever is selected at #9 this April will be vastly overpaid. Multiple teams are trying to trade down out of the top 15 slots, due to the shortage of true blue chippers.
If a trade was to be made, I'd take a 2nd or 3rd rounder this year...and a #1 in 2006. The next draft is loaded with quality LT candidates and seems to be much stronger overall, according to Ourlads Scouting.
One position that is loaded with depth this year is CB. So quality could be found in Round #2.
I wish to keep Nate but if TD already knows he's walking after 2005, after discussions with his agent, then a trade should be considered. The Franchise tag is way too high for CB's these days. Didn't the Pats win the Superbowl with 2 backups at CB ?
Well done Mark. It would have taken me perhaps 5 posts on the topic to say it just that well. I fully agree.
Imo, the entire discussion is not based opon whether or not Nate is a great player. We all know he is.
What matters here imo is whether or not NC wants to stay, and whether or not TD wants to pay him at least 40 million dollars. If either one of these factors go sour, we lose NC and I for one would hate to get nothing in return.

What does that mean " a politics board on a football web site "? Does one talk of football on a politics board or politics on football board? I would be happy to keep that in mind and make you glad if only I knew what you had in mind. I am ever mindful that you are a Hall of Fame poster and i am honored by your attentitive mind. Mindfully yours....
What I really meant was while this board has had its ups and downs, we were able to survive many years without "my religion is better than yours" posts.

Law was already a Cardinal when the scandal broke. He was not promoted. His action and inaction during and especially before the "scandal" are indefensible. The Church is an institution in which redemption is important which leads to apparent contradictions. God will judge Law and gratuitously I advise Law to prepare well. I am sure you would like to see Law drawn and quartered- and that thought does have appeal- but it is more timely to make restitution.
Let me surprise you ( and if you knew me well shock you) by saying that the Protestant Reformation was one of best things that ever happened to the RCC. I do not perceive any inherent defect in Catholic teaching that condones "diddlers". "Diddlers" seek out positions in which they come in contact with the diddleable, ergo, priesthood, boy scout leaders, coaches, teachers etc.. People of evil lust the appearance of good and then defile that goodness and relish with equal parts the admixture exquisite pain and erotic pleasure As child molesters attest it is in large measure the innocence destroyed that gives them the rush.
It is hoped that as a Protestant you have gotten over the Renaissance Popes, especially in light of JPII, and take a positive approach toward your own religion. Your concern for my religion is appreciated. Now leave it alone. Your Church needs your attention. Still your interest is flattering.
Just a friendly reminder that this is a politics board on a football website.
I for one would be glad if you would keep this in mind.
It would also be pretty good if you would just go away.

That's part of the reason why he's worth MORE than a 9th pick in the first round. Clements is as good as it gets at CB. He is a great cover man, he plays the run like a SS and he makes plays and scores TD's. There isn't really another corner in the NFL who does all of these things as well as Clements.
You can entertain a trade though. Great teams can be built off of such trades. But it has to be a blockbuster, and just the 9th pick in this draft does not qualify. If you can't get all of that and more, just franchise Clements next offseason.
Badol, but if NC is franchised, the cap hit just for just him and Mike Williams will exceed 18 million dollars. We are talking about a CB and a Right Tackle.
Imo, this seems like too much money to be allocated to these positions. We are not talking about Peyton Manning and Julius Peppers here, nor Ogden, Pace, etc. Instead, we are looking at 18 mil. for a corner and the highest paid RT (I think) in the history of football.
Sorry, I just cant see the Franchise Tag happening with NC.

The one thing every draftnik in the world agrees on: this year's draft is crappy. One thing many of us agree on: first round picks are barely ever worth the money you have to pay for them these days.
When you put those two together, then please tell me WHY in the name of all that is holy you would take one of the best corners around and unload him prematurely to move up to a draft position where there are no players of value to use at the price they will cost us? In what world does that even remotely make sense? You get another year out of Nate; a year in which he will likely elevate his game so some moronic team will pay him craploads of money the following year to be on a mediocre team.
THEN get your picks or trade for him. But now?
Man, this is right up with here with whatshisnames idea that we should just cut Travis Henry because he's a moronic pedophile cancer. I sure hope those of you who say 'let's consider the trade' don't have to make a living out of negotiating.
Sorry LA, but your posting is incorrect and perhaps short sighted.
>>>>>You get another year out of Nate; a year in which he will likely elevate his game so some moronic team will pay him craploads of money the following year to be on a mediocre team.

Next season NC will be a UFA. How do you expect the Bills to get compensation for him? With the Franchise Tag and a trade? TD is too smart for this. Did you see what happened to the Raiders. They tried it and now have to pay Woodson a GUARANTEED 10 mil for one season, after which he will once again be a UFA and make another killing.
Besides, how do any of us know that NC even wants to return to Buffalo? What makes you think that he doesn't want a warmer climate, more money etc? Also, do you think TD is apt to sign CBs to 40+ million dollar contracts? I do not.
My contention is that in all probability, NC is gone after this season. What drives you to ridicule the possibility of getting compensation for him, as opposed to nothing whatsoever?
Please also remember that a 9th pick in a draft can be traded for additional picks, and/or picks in 06.
As for your remarks about getting rid of Travis, none of us truly know how this story will unfold. We might even get lucky and get a seemingly sub-par lineman for him, but I have a feeling that you, not I will be disappointed when his worth comes to fruition in terms of a trade or yes, an outright release.

>>>>>Let's take a look at how and why Travis Henry has been so critical to the success of this team<<<<<
If you consider the 0-4 start a "success," right on!
Travis, who gave us 2 years of good running stats and a poor performance at every other phase of football, has been a dismal failure.
Now, TD has one seemingly reluctant trading partner, who is willing to give us a LT that he cannot wait to unload. TD is right to want more. He will look silly if Shelton winds up not making the roster, as AKC suggested. As unlikely as this may seem, take notice of the fact that Jennings was scooped up in seconds for a huge price, and Shelton seems to attract barely a nibble. Odd for a quality LT, wouldn't you say?
The team has a FAR worse record with TH as a starter than the ever hated Drew Bledsoe, but dont let this stop you from cannonizing this underskilled misfit. We as Bills fans make a huge issue over this trade but from another angle, it looks like an insignifigant deal for two also-rans.

So after posting that, are you ready to admit that the offers a team gets for a player is not a very good indication at all of the talent or worth of said player?
It has been said in different spots but there are many reasons, all working concurrently and to varying degrees, as to why Travis is not getting huge offers. People here (and I am sure GMs and coaches around the league) attach different weight to each of these, and put them in various orders, but they are many, including:
1. There is a glut of good running backs in the draft, in both the first couple rounds, and in the lower rounds.
2. There are several running backs available in trade around the league, some better than Henry that aren't going for a huge price.
3. Travis's contract, while on the surface quite cheap, in reality causes his value to go way down. You give too much away and you may only have him for one year. You sign him for a long term deal and not only are you giving up something valuable to get him but you may get screwed.
4. The Bills are either strongly or desperately trying to get rid of him and you think he can be had on the cheap.
5. He was hurt last year and has a history of injury problems.
6. He has excellent proven running skills but has obviously liabilities, is our offense the best offense for a player like this.
7. He has had a history of off the field problems and isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, which happens to be hanging on the wall next to another dull tool, his agent.
8. Player trades are relatively hard to pull off in the NFL because of the draft and FA and salary cap.
I dont know why you keep driving this home. Of course there are many factors which enter a trade.
The thing is, none of them will make Henry as good as you think he is, nor perhaps as bad as I think he is.
-
Defend his conduct as you will.
Again, I do not place all the blame on the Clintons, but they certainly served to help set a tone.
-
I just hope this isn't some kind of indicator of Henry's true trade value. I mean, look at some of the posts toward the end of last year and how people were blasting Travis here on the Wall. If there is any truth to what most were saying at that time, then how much value can he really have? Yeah, yeah, he had a couple 1,300 yard seasons and was a Pro Bowler once (due to Priest Holmes' injury). But, what if the events that happened later overshadow all of that? If that is the case, maybe his value isn't so high. That could also explain why there's not a line of GMs waiting to talk to Donahoe to pull the trigger on a deal for Travis. That would be awful, because it means we would either be stuck with a guy who doesn't want to be a backup or we'd have to take whatever we could get for him.
Speaking of trade value, on the NFL channel, Kirwan said that he thinks that Miami will fetch a 4th in 05 and a 3rd in 06 for Surtain. Looking at recent contracts, corners are a very hot commodity, yet this seemingly small price is said to be the most that the phish can get for a very good player.
In a year in which there seems to be a glut of good RBs in the draft, and names like James and Alexander out there, it is hard to believe that TH has much value, especially given his obvious limitations.
Once again, I am making zero predictions, but I will be flat out amazed if Green gives up Shelton AND swaps 2nd round picks.

The phrase "vast right wing conspiracy" draws mocking groans and and skepticism from conservatives, but if any of them ever bothered to do a little research and background checks then maybe it wouldn't come as a surprise that there was a concerted effort to take Clinton down from the beginning.
That has little to do with this topic. I stand by my claim that the Clintons set a poor moral example. Monica was not planted by Gingrich, nor was Clinton forced into any sex acts.

Good luck Cindy, and keep us posted.

Cappucines, my favorite Italian place. S/W corner of 19th Street and 2nd Ave.
From the outside, it appears to be justy a small, non-descript Italian restaurant but people come from as far as Ct. to eat there.
They serve basically everything but are known for seafood.
Try the red snappers.
-
Wishful thinking indeed, but I hope you are right.
-
I dont know what is going to happen in terms of any trade, but 14 spots in round 2 is not such a paltry sum.
Remember, when the Bills drafted Clements (02?) they moved down 7 spots in round 1 and were compensated with a second round pick.
Again, I am making zero predictions.
-
Of course I do not lay ALL of the blame on Clinton, and yes, teens were engaging in oral sex long before he was around.
That said, he did deny "having sex with that woman," thus implying that oral isn't sex. Hillary was worse. Remember the thumbs up and the "right wing conspiracy?"
Certainly you dont think that this was setting a good, honest nor safe example for our children, do you?

I don't believe in absolutes but I worked PT for a shipping company at the airport when I was in the military and I saw EXACTLY what he was talking about. Plus, my sister-in-law has been a FedEx driver for 15 years.
My experience with unions has not been a good one, though there have been exceptions on occasion. I agreed with you before that jobs in the public sector like police need protection because they work for scummer politicos looking to make their mark by offering up someone no-name in a highly publicized case. That doesn't mean I think it works very well or that people like Jackie Presser should be flying around in Lehr jets dressed in Armani bought off the backs of laborers.
Has your sister-in-law ever explained why the voted against a union? I could never understand this.
As for Presser, you will get no arguement from me. Ron Carey seemed to be a good leader, but it looked like he was fighting off the mob and the government....a pretty tall task.
Btw, the "Italian Mafia" is all but finished, and their role in organized labor is all but done.
-
Come now Darin. His knowledge of FedEx consists of what managers told him. That is what he said. He does not claim to have actually seen how they treat packages, yet he took a stance (much to your delight I am sure) against a success story, unionized company.
Seriously, does the fact that unionized workers at UPS are fairly compensated for working hard bother you? Do you scorn each and every union and/or their members? Or, are you just going off on a hair splitting tangent?
Man, where is DC Tom, the master of hair splitting tangents?

All well and good to think we hold all the cards at this point, yet if LJ hits the open market all bets are off as to who has the inside track.
The cliche of the NFL being all about business means the hightest bidder wins and we normally do not overbid (thankfully I may add). Having said that, signing LJ is not a high stakes issue at this point, imho, so if we can swap second round spots then TD is as close to pure genius on the off-season part of deal making than any GM in the game today. Period.
I completely agree with this post.

>>>Okay folks. We now know a little bit more about the market for Travis.<<<
I dont know exactly what you mean by the above.
Anyway, mark me down for whatever we can get.

I am sorry, but I missed this.
I hope it isn't too late to tell you that I am elated to hear good news such as this, and may God bless you all.

Miami vs. Buffalo, 1994. I believe it was Columbus Day Weekend. The Bills won by 10 or so points. Dan Marino threw a 40 yard out pattern over the Bills defenders' outstretched hand. It was one of the best passes I have ever seen to this day.
I fell in love with RWS and WNY and have been back every year since. I cannot wait until the schedule comes out!
