1. Come on Bill... I hear what you're saying generally about Travis' skills (it's hard not to), but you're really stretching with this one.  Green thinks highly of Henry.  That's established by now.  He wasn't dissing him by calling him "the best backup running back in the league" - I guarantee you that wasn't a backhanded compliment.

    312232

Coach, this time of year i dont believe any coach nor GM in the NFL. I am sure that Green was posturing in some way, but he wasn't exactly lavishing TH with praise, or so it seemed.

  2. No, I looked at what Green actually said, in context, as a whole, and didn't cherry-pick a single phrase out of context to imply something negative that wasn't said.

    312231

Well, I think that the above describes both of our respective natures. Fair enough?

I dont know about you, but I am extremely anxious to see how this plays out. All we can do is hope that you are right about the value of TH, because I am all but positive that he will NOT be a Buffalo Bill this season, one way or another. :P

  3. Hey if we had to toss them a 7th rd pick then let's do it. Donahoe's late rd picks usually suck anyways.

Hey guys, I surely don't know all the nuances of trades, but I do know that this draft can't conclude soon enough because I need some sleep!

    312227

Now we are close to a consensus.

It would be great to obtain PS from the phish, especially with the threat of NC leaving Buffalo, and the thought of dumping Travis on a divisional opponent.

I wish that there was a way it could happen, and yes I too will be more relaxed when the draft is finally over. :P

  4. Just says he "mentioned them". Could have meant he mentioned them as being so bad we have to trade for a worthless pedophile.

    312224

I guess that it is safe to say that people have different ways of interpreting things. To you, it seems that calling Travis a "backup" and mentioning him in the same vein as two stiffs is a compliment. So be it.

I dont always do a good job, but as a fan I try to stay focused on the true picture rather than being a tunnel vision "homer" in terms of judging talent. Otherwise, I would see no reason to devote so much time and money into my hobby, my beloved Buffalo Bills Football Team. :P

  5. If Buffalo isn't fairly compensated with at least a decent 3rd rd pick or better yet a 2nd rd pick, then maybe a trade of a different kind can still benefit us. I don't think at this time that anybody involved in Buffalo wants Henry to remain on the roster. If a draft pick can't be worked out then maybe a player for player trade can be lucrative.

Here's athought. Miami is looking to trade CB Patrick Surtain and it's time for the Bills to boot Henry. They help us and we help them and when we play each other twice a year we can thank each other. We would actually get the better of this deal just in the aspect that Miami won't be able to pass or run on us. With Clements unresolved and McGee being better suited to play ST and the nickel package, we would have a shut down secondary. Both Miami and Buffalo are looking for a 2nd rd pick for their players. Walla! It should be cheaper to secure a CB this year then next's. Don't think that this could be done so easily with Clements this year. He's close to completing his contract and I'm sure he is going to want to test the market for compensation, reguardless if he stays in Buffalo.

Keep in mind that with Surtain he's real familiar with this division and it's offenses. Who knows, maybe Moulds and him can kiss and make up. Would you want Surtain opposite Clements?

    312201

The Dolphins would not be foolish enough to make this trade even-up.

  6. When added to the next paragraph when he says Travis is more of a sure thing than any of the top three running backs, sure.

    312205

    >>>>>In the same interview, Green mentioned Marcel Shipp, who sat out last season with leg and ankle injuries, and Troy Hamrick, who gained 283 yards in 63 carries before he, too, went on injured reserve with six games remaining.<<<<<

And then in the following (above) paragraph he placed him in the company of some all-time greats, right?!:P;):D:D

  7. I would be surprised if TH and the swap of seconds doesn't happen, although I think TD also has something else up his sleeve.

    312200

    >>>>>But Green also has a thing for established, underutilized players, which is how he regards Buffalo's Travis Henry. Green called Henry "the best backup running back in the NFL."<<<<<

Do you consider this a compliment? :P:rolleyes:

  8. Great idea for a thread!

Imo, DeMarcus Ware would make our pass rush all but unstoppable.

Think about it....Kelsay is going to improve. Schobel can bring it and he is very fast. TKO and London can come calling. Milloy is spectacular for a safety (wrt the blitz). Even Big sam provides pressure, as does Edwards.

I believe that this kid will be a difference maker in this league.

Of course, there is the good chance that I am soundly mistaken.

  9. i think people are reading too much in to this.......the skins felt they had a fair deal with the broncos.......in fact, they paid less then the bills did last year.........as well, they felt the price may go up as the draft drew closer, and would defantiely increase come draft day......as a result, they thought the deal was good for the team and opened up more options for them, in terms of both moving up and moving down in the draft......

i don't think it's any more complicated then that........

    311034

The skins paid less? Not so sure. It looks almost exactly the same, no? We gave a 2nd and a 5th in a strong draft. They gave up a 4th this year and a 3rd next season, right? Plus, we lost several spots wrt the swap of firsts. Sorry, I see the difference as negligible.

Btw, thanks for the publicity on your signature. :w00t:;)

  10. Last season, the Bills apparently targeted JP in a big way. I did not like the trade then nor do I now. I accept it, but that is another issue.

My point is that TD saw that JP was still there on draft day when Dallas was up. TD wanted him and pulled the trigger. This makes sense. Why on earth would the skins trade for the 25th pick BEFORE they know who is out there?

I read that they may be targeting the Auburn qb (Campbell?). What makes them think that he will not go in the top 20? Am I making sense? If this is who they covet, he could very easily be drafted well in advance of 25.

This raises the obvious question....who was behind this unusual deal.....Gibbs (a football man in the truest sense) or Snyder (an eccentric billionaire)?

My sincere guess is that Snyder, as crazy as he seems, would not do something this odd without input from Gibbs. There is nothing that comes to mind that can make me justify this trade, except for the possibility that they are going to make another move.

Moral of this rant? I think that a deal for NC is going to happen, and soon.

I am more than willing to take the flames. :w00t:

  11. I predict that w/in 10 years, Bill Clinton will be a Republican. Mostly b/c of the "making the world a better place" happy horsesh-- only w/o the sky blue helmets.

The Clintons are no friends to Democrats.

    309052

I agree 100%. I will NEVER believe that the Clintons wanted Kerry to win the 04 election. Bill was all giddy about Kerry selecting Edwards, who was despised in his home state. If he had selected Gephardt, I think that he might have won the election. Not because Gephardt is great mind you, but he had HUGE labor support. Iowa turned their backs on him, thus Kerry chose this fool.

My daughter had a conversation with Edwards at her school. It was pretty funny. PM me if you want details, so I will not bore the entire board.

  12. I don't think we'll ever see in our lifetime a liberal African-American or woman president because quite simply the country wouldn't trust them not to do something loopy. I think there is a good chance we could see a conservative African-American or woman president because they would generally be perceived as being against quota's and other loopy leftist legislation not to mention being perceived as being stronger on defense and the country would probably would trust them a tad bit more.

    309047

Very true Gavin but be it liberal or conservative, his name will not be Obama.

  13. Check the voting stats re: the black vote. There was the start of something in '04. I can only say it would be a good thing to have Jesse Jackson be less of a voice in the Dem Party. I choose to think a little more optimistically about the racial thing.

As for Hillary, it's hard to say if she'll run. If she does, I don't think she gets it. Lots of history there, and not much of it is good for her. In NYC she's safe, going national I wouldn't bet on her. Lots of discussion centers around running a current Dem governor, for the same reason as is being discussed in the thread.

    308960

I strongly hope that you are correct about the racial thing. I honestly thought it would get better after 9/11. Maybe it did, we can only hope.

My daughter told me that AAs and Hispanics voted a little bit more for repubs in 04, but I dont have the numbers. She also has an article in the Dartmouth Beacon titled "AFL-CIO GOP" in which she examines the labor vote and other issues.

If what KRC and others say about the media is true, I see Hillary as a virtual lock to get the nomination in 08. She is already running to the center. From what I understand, Bill is even ridiculing gay marriage.

    It will be another circus.

  14. It depends on what you mean by quality. To me that is far from great, below very good, right around middle of the pack (out of 32). I think he is not as good as JJ, but slightly below. The Cards thought enough of him two years ago to give him 23 million, which I would wager is likely around 28-30 million today. They didn't think he was terrible. And he has had the unfortunate circumstance of being on the Cardinals his entire career, which could harm anyone's upward tragectory. But he is better than we have, and would start immediately, and with no signing bonus, if he doesn't work out we can cut him after one year. But with McNally he has a chance to blossom.

    308954

Maybe he can serve as a stop-gap, or as you say, McNally will bring out more in him. I am just sick and tired of sub par OL play on the Bills, although 04 was the best I have seen in countless years.

It is going to be hard for the Bills to go to the playoffs and beyond without a Pace/Ogden type talent. What the Bills truly need (and deserve) is for Mike Williams to earn his huge paycheck. If he was truly dominant, I would not begrudge him one cent of his cap figure, but I guess this is for another thread.

  15. I already answered that just above. And I don't believe that he is a top LT. I will provide it for you again even though you keep asking the same questions and keep getting answers and then keep asking the same questions.

Here is why I think there apparently isn't a huge interest in Shelton:

Please, please, please, I'm begging you, do not go into a tirade about Travis not worth dirt let alone a 2nd rounder, we know your opinion on this.

    308906

    >>>>>He is a quality and chance to be high quality player not a great player. Three million a year is a significant sum even though a lot of guys make more.<<<<<

This is where I do not agree with you. 3 mil. is anything but a tidy sum for a quality LT. Tell me, do you think that TD would have been willing to keep Jennings for 3 mil. per season? Please.

My contention is that if TD thought highly of LJ he would have been forced to make a deal almost instantly. There is a big shortage of talented LTs (and pass rushing DEs) in the NFL. They will always be in high demand, and are almost never traded.

AKC raised doubt that Shelton could make the team. Badolbilz called him a "below average LT with a chronic ankle injury." I contend that if Shelton was a good LT, the Bills could not get him for Travis Henry.

  16. Clark was a dismal failure in the primaries. I do not see him running again. Obama needs more time, but he will be a VERY formitable candidate for the Dems. Richardson is a possibility. Reid seems to be positioning himself for a run.

I also agree that primaries should be closer together. I think it should be one day for ALL primaries for the party. No one or couple of states should determine the nominee.

I disagree with your assertion that Kerry was not in the position/did not want to attack Bush. The problem is that he was just opposing anything Bush was for, then when questioned on it and forced to give specifics his opinions were not much different from Bush. As you said, he tried to be all things for all people, which means that he had no message. In order to be an effective communicator, you need to start with a message. "Bush Bad, vote for me because I am not Bush" is not going to cut it.

    308869

Look, I am not saying this is right. It is in fact regretable, but there will not be an African-American named Obama serving as the President of the United States. Not in our lifetime.

The lib dems own the African American vote, lock, stock and barrel. His candidacy would perhaps increase AA voting numbers, but it would also bring out the racist vote. In other words, he would not bring a much need voting base to the table (it is already there), and he comes from a state that already votes for dems.

I am thinking that Hillary is the clear choice for the dems in 08. Looking at the last several loser dem candidates, it just makes sense.

  17. So why did the Bills bring Shelton in for two days, just a smoke screen? We'll see on Saturday. The reason they havent pulled the trigger is simple. They know people want Henry and can get something more out of the Cards for him. That seems to be playing out.

    308871

Why do you think that there is little interest (or so it seems) in Shelton? A top LT locked into a cheap contract is worth at the very least a top 10 pick.

If your answer is that the cards want to get rid of him, fine, but again, there would be a stampede of GMs trying to obtain Shelton if they thought he was any good, wouldn't you say?

  18. Then how come there is no competition from other teams to get him. Especially

considering that he has a under-paying salary of 3m/year for a starting LT.

Also the fact that you can cut him anytime and not have any salaray cap

negative impact makes him a great pick for many teams that don't have a

    LT or a avg LT.

The point is Shelton does come with a baggage and until he proves otherwise.

The question is do the Bills feel it is worth the risk to get him and start him at LT.

    308850

    Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!! Perfect Post!!!!!

There will never be a time in the NFL where teams will not fall all over themselves to get a good LT who is signed to a cheap, long term deal.

We can tell ourselves what a great deal this is and it might very well be, but as you said, we will not know how good LJ is until he proves it on the field.

That said, at least we would be throwing out our garbage as well.
