1. I'm not too high on Tucker, either. He's another one of those marginal starter/excellent backup type of players that we seem to be full of at OL. It's time to grab starter-level quality. Also, I am very much against having Teague shift to LT. I don't think he'd be "average to good," as you say. He was pretty awful at LT in his last year with Denver.

If we sign JJ, here's what I'd like the starting 5 look like:

    LT: JJ

LG: Wahle from Green Bay would be nice

C: Dominic Raiola is my current favorite

    RG: Villarial

    RT: MW

    If we don't sign JJ:

    LT: MW

    LG: Wahle

    C: Raiola

    RG: Villarial

    RT: Stockar McDougle?

    237092

MW has, imo, never displayed the footwork needed to play LT. Although he is one of the strongest men on Earth, imo he is still too much of a plodding sort to LT. Would you truly trust him with protecting the blind side of a hapless rookie or even an immobile Drew against a speed rusher?

I am thinking that TT with a VERY good LG would be about the same as JJ with a so-so LG. Does this make sense?

Yeah, I am all for a true OC and I hope that it happens, but McNally has made a believer out of this OL skeptic, and Tucker works extremely hard by all accounts.

In summary, I expect the Bills to improve at OL next season.

  2. You haters are once again making your point ad nauseum that Drew sucks. We get it.

What about the statement that JP (providing he does not step on a pebble and wind up hospitalized) will set the team back? Is the hatred so intense that those of you who are so engulfed in hate refuse to even look at this possibility? Do you WANT the franchise set back as long as it entails getting rid of your perceived villian?

Do you want stumblebums such as Garcia or Batch to step in and play qb for the Buffalo Bills after JP either stubs his toe and goes on IR, or just sucks?

I think that many of you guys are more into hating than you are the Buffalo Bills Football Team.

Is there a good "hate" web site for you to try?

  3. Not terribly impressed.

I dont see why you think that he could be a LG. He seems to lack the strength and push to play OG, or for that matter, RT.

I DO think that he would be an average to good LT because the position calls for agility, which he has imo. Also, McNally would certainly help his cause.

In all, TT is a very cost effective player for the Buffalo Bills. He is probably less talented and more durable than Jennings, and my pure guess is that with instruction from McNally, would not be a serioud dropoff in talent were he to step in at LT. I do not by the way ever see MW at LT. My hope for him is that he does develop into a dominant, Erik Williams RT. That would be fine, wouldn't you say? :P

As I have said before, if the Bills could sign a CV equivalent at LG and move TT to LT and Tucker to OC, I would consider this a very good OL.

  4. I was always also kind of intrigued with Hasselbeck.

But then he audibled out of a play into that out on 1stdown in OT of a playoff game, then proceeded to throw the pick'n' go to McKenzie (or Harris?) to eliminate his team. He instantly dropped off my radar screen and became a guy I don't want in a Bills uni when things get tight.

I know you're catching a bad vibe from JP, and frankly he's yet to show me anything outside the preseason. But is there anything else beside a gut feeling that would make you want to deal him away for less than we got him for before he's even had a chance to play ball for the Bills?

    Cya

    236509

I have liked Hasselbeck since he backed up Favre. He HAS played in cold weather, has pocket presence, can move a little, and is willing to foresake stats and hand the ball off.

As for the trade, if they would give a bit more, no problem!

PS: Imo, Hasselbeck would provide the Bills with a FAR greater chance of winning than JP.

  5. It has been a long day and I am tired, but here it goes......

    1) Bills sign Hasselbeck as a UFA.

    2) They trade JP to Seattle for a 1st round draft pick.

    3) Bills win the superbowl.

Blast away, because I am tired and have to work tomorrow.

    GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Possibly interesting note on Bettis:

The day after the AFC chaampionship, the Stillers held a players only meeting to close out their season. I caught an interview w/ Hines Ward on the tube coming out of the meeting and the man was beside himself with grief, tears running down his face, difficulty speaking, the whole 9 yrds.

He said that Bettis made a speech that had the entire room in tears and Ward was more upset than anything that he couldn't have done more to get Drome a chance to play in a SB.

Most everybody believes what happened is that Bettis thanked his guys, told him how much he loved playing with him but then let them know that either 1) that was his last game and he was hanging them up or 2) the team had already let him know it was going in another direction.

Despite everybody's assertation that the Bills got beat by a 3rdstring scrub RB, the fact is that Verron Hayes is the reald deal as an NFL RB, y'all just haven't heard of him or seen him yet. I've been watching him play very good ball every time he's stepped on the field for the last two years and the play where PhatPat dropped him in the backfield may well have been the only time I've yet to see him go down on first contact. They've also got another young kid (Willie Parker) who's been real impressive for them all year. Between these two low-priced kids and Staley, there's just no room for an older back like Bettis and his contract.

The reason I mention all this is that while it seems like Bettis is done in P'burgh, he may not be quite done playing ball. He's only 32 and has dished out a hell of a lot more punishment than he's taken. He averaged nearly 4yrds/carry this year, scored over a dozen TD's and his leadership and intangibles are simply off the charts.

This is exactly the kind of guy the Bills need to back up McGahee next year, or be able to play for an extended period if Willis' knee goes kablooey. TD has a history of maintaining a veeerrry deep stable of quality RB's, he's already dealt for Bettis once and you know damned well that Drome is exactly the kindof tough physical player that he covets.

I'm not saying that the hat Bettis was wearing means anything (although being the jokester he is, I wouldn't be surprised if this was some sort of gag on TD who maybe he's spoken with recently), but if Bettis still wants to play ball, he would be an absolutely outstanding fit in a XXXL Bills uni next year.

Thanks for that Simon. I hope you are right.

PS: Stop hating me for not wanting Batch.:ph34r:

  7. Running backs are pretty disposable in this age.  They take so many hits- most dont make it 5 years.  The Broncos were quick to trade Portis because they knew they could put anyone back there and they would be productive.  There is a good chance the Seahawks let Shawn Alexander go.  I agree- QBs have more trade value then RBs

    236488

Thank you Pete. If I may, allow me to give one more example.....

Few could argue that 04 was anything less than a total disaster for JP. Never mind that, some will say he resembled Montana in his prime.:lol:

That said, I am almost sure that the Bills could trade him (although this is admittedly said to be a weaker draft) for a top 15 pick.

Truthfully, I wish they would. Bad vibes, Bro. :D

  8. I don't see anyone giving us anything for a dime a dozen fumbling, loser (check his record) QB like Bledsoe... especially not after the league saw how the Pats fleeced us in 2002.

OTOH, we will get something of value for TH.

    236489

I wish it were possible to have a sensible conversation with you on this issue, I really do.

  9. The converse is Rob Johnson was worth the 9th pick overall in a strong draft

    236476

That is my point Pete. QBs who have talent are harder to find than dime a dozen fumbling, loser (check his record) running backs who are headcases to boot.

OK, RJ sucked, but dont you see where I am going with this? Look what the rams gave up for Faulk, and what the phish gave up for Freeley.

    See what I mean?

  10. No they need a backup.  If this is true, and I take anything Lenny has to say with a huge grain of salt, then we have Losman and that is it on this roster.  We are in serious doo-doo at Qb.  We have basically a rookie, who was broke his leg when he stumbled on the sideline.  In his 5 pass plays this year, he had 2 completion, one to the other team.

    236365

    VA, smarten up, OK!

JP is tough, durable, great, and bound for Canton (especially if none of our opponents brush up against him, nor give him a mean look).

  11. Even though its a weak QB class, i don't see teams jumping for Drew like they would Travis.

    236428

Yeah, GMs are known for "jumping" all over the place at an opportunity to trade for a fumbling, bumbling fool who is historically bad at every phase of football except running, which he could not even do in 04.

Corey Dillon only brought the bengals a 2nd round pick.

Do you think that we can trade Travis to the Raiders for Robert Gallery, or should we hold out for more?

  12. I would at least made his juggle, or stand on his head --- something..

nah, forget it, you'd probably get pressure from the union for over working him.

    235763

How many hours per day do you spend at your non-union porno industry job posting on TSW, getting B word slapped by AD?

  13. HEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOO?????

I have said several times that yes, unions laid a nice groundwork. They basically set the standard of how campanies now should treat their employees. However, they have done their job. They are dated, and not relevant in the 21st century.

You keep coming back with this same argument, and I keep replying the same.

PLEASE, tell me why we STILL need unions besides making sure some guy who has no other skills besides putting a certain bolt on a transmission can make $25/hour?

    235637

The above from someone in the porno industry.:ph34r:

  14. Blow Unions!

Because of Unions I had to move all over the country when I was a kid. The greed of Unions and its workers cost many Americans jobs and destroy entire cities. HMmm example BUFFALO..Bethlehem Steel the Unions destroyed the company.

    NHL..Union again!

The reason cars are so expensive..UNIONS  $28 an hour to put a bolt on a car..AWESOME.

Thank God I work for a large Bank and Unions are not an issue

Make sure you stop by and say hello when you lose your job due to a merger and/or your job is outsourced to India.

  15. I know, I know, in terms of your disdain for TH.

However, while my view is certainly arguable I think it is far better than nonsense:

    1. Do you attribute all or even a major portion of the Bills reduction in sacks to better blitz pick-up by WM than TH?

I do not think one can discount the role that:

    A. WM's addition to the offense and subtraction from the opponents ability to pass rush because he is a more effective outside runner than TH in terms of fewer sacks.

    B. The OL improving by leaps and bounds under JMac compared to Vinky/Ruel.

    C. Clements making far better use of Bledsoe as a runner than Killdrive.

Do you deny that these three things happened and that they had a significant impact on the stat you often rely on to indict TH's blitz pick-up.

    2. Can you site anything beyond your anecdotal observations and the above stat to even indicate a Henry blitz pick-up issue?

I agree that TH is no Thurman Thomas at blitz pick-up, but why was this not harped upon or even identified as a big issue leading to Bledsoe's sack numbers the last couple of years if we must depend on anecdotes?  Anecdotaally, it is my sense that WM looked just like a first year player himself in his limited blitz pick-up opportunities the first half of the season and the best thing he had to offer was his development into a tremendous outside rushing threat with one of the best stiff arms I have seen.

I would not call your complaints about TH in blitz pick-up nonsense because he needs to get better and has gotten better since some real adventures he had trying to block For Flutie when DF came in late in TH's first game for RJ.  However, while your assertions about TH are not nonsense, I find them unsupported by anything but anecdote since the sack number you site is far better explained by the three factors I mentioned rather than WM bein great because he is so good at blitz pickup.

    2. Again in TH's 4 seasons he produced fine pass catching numbers as a rookie, very good pass catching numbers in his second year when Kevin Killdrive and Bledsoe has the O humming and pedestrian numbers as a receiver his third year when out entire O laid an egg and last year when WM sent him to the bench.

How do you explain the Bills have enough confidence him to throw the ball to him so he coulf log 3-4 catches a game his second year if he is so horrible as a pass catcher?

Again anecdotally he did have some bad drops in 2003 as he an the O went multiple quaters without scoring, but no one identified this as an amount that equalled someone who had a true droppsie problem like Reed.  Even Moulds has some worse occurences of drops than Henry but watchers are willing to accept the fact that the QB amd the receiver are going to fail to connect sometimes if the skill player produces elsewhere.

Until this year TH produced running the ball.  He didn't this year and correcly was benched.  However, the case you make of TH being a lousy pass catcher or lousy at blitz pick-up is simply overblown.

Even with the fumblitis which was a real problem his seond year rivaling the fumblitis of a player like Tikki Barber.  However, like Barber even at his worst the trade-off was worth it and both made the changes necessary to really improve their performance in this area.

You are right that we will likely see what he gets traded for when a deal is done.  Most likely I am happy to depend on TD raping a potential partner in a deal rather than a deal being a declarative statment of how good or bad TH is (do you really think PP was worth a big contract and a first?  Trade amounts are not equal to contribution).  However, they are an indicator and I am qite comforable that we will get good value for TH,

    233899

    1) No. Not ALL. Not even a "major portion," but even if saidportion was....to name a number, 15 out of more than 100 plus, my guess is that this cost the Bills at least one win, probably more.

    2) FFS, look at the numbers and the game films. I make the serious assertion that TH is not smart enough to figure out WHO to block. If he could figure out assignments, and cared, yes, he is probably strong enough to block blitzing opponents. This imo is a moot point.

2A  ) Gilbride. He was an idiot. He called pass after pass and opposing defenses wisely attacked Drew. Therefore, there were many times where TH was unattended. Centers put up some numbers due to the same situation.

The bottom line is that the Bills will be a much better football team the day this bad player exits the great reigon of WNY.

  16. I met my wife on a Thanksgiving Day. All the rookies put in for the day off to annoy the old, crazy roll call cop who used to call us obscenities because we were rookies. He weighed close to 300 lbs. I later grew to love and miss that man, but that is another story.

I wound up in Bellevue Hospital with a female prisoner who shot a NYC Corrections Officer on W43rd St. From what I could gather, she did not like him, and when arrested, stated that she was 'sick" and desired medical attention, thus the trip to Bellevue. My wife lived in a NYC Housing Project across 1st Ave. She was in the hospital because her best friend suffered a serious cut and she accompanied her to the ER.

I saw her talking on a pay phone. She was a 5'9", 125 lb Puerto Rican (btw, she has not gained a pound  ). I was of course staring at her and she smiled, and unzipped her coat to reveal a drop dead body. To this day, she denies unzipping her jacket, but it happened. she wont even admit it to our best friends, but she is lying.

I could not leave my prisoner, so I asked the security guard to tell her that I wanted to talk to her. He asked why he should bring HER to ME, and I told him to just go ahead, and I would owe him a favor.

15 minutes later, she sat down with me and the prisoner. I got her telephone number, and called her 4 days later.

That was 21 years and 3 daughters ago.

  17. I'm starting to see some fans here wanting a CB with the first pick. This has me completely baffeled. We are set at CB. We just need to sign Nate long term and forget about trying to stike it rich with a second round CB when it's offensive line we're sickenly thin at. Do you guys not like Nate or something? What gives here????

    233792

Not at all. I would be the happiest poster here if we to an offensive lineman with our first pick. The thing is, Winfield signed for something in the neighborhood of 6 mil. per season. Nate is clearly superior and will want and get more, either from the Bills or another team.

The Bills were never a team to allocate too much money to the cb position. Frankly, I agree with this philosophy. I do think that if they can get him for 4,5 mil per year or so, they will sign Surtain. I could see us sending Travis and a #4.

Pure speculation on my part, but it is fun. <_<

  18. i agree. I think Tim Anderson was a great selection. he's learning while Pat and Sam plug things up, and hopefully he puts on some pounds too. he can learn that from them off the field.

    233441

I am not saying that PW will definitely be gone, but I think that he will. I am not totally sure that both Bannon and Anderson will return.

If PW leaves, and there is a DT out there that TD likes, I would not be at all surprised to see him take one in the 3rd or 4th round.

I still forsee us taking a cb with our first selection.

  19. I'm saying that back in '99, I had confidence our defense would come through in clutch situations. I never had that confidence in our defense this year.

    233678

If this is true, it is probably due to coaching.

I am a HUGE fan of Wade as a DC. He forgot more than Gray knows at this stage of his career.

As for the talent I agree that Bruce was a difference maker, but so is Takeo (to a lesser degree of course) imo, and our secondary is now clearly superior.
