1. Well, my thought in posting this was to note that other organizations seem to think ahead, and get some success out of that. NE (and PHI) have done so for several years.

Sad to say and in contrast to some years ago, the Bill's organization is not a top competitor in the marketplace. It's not sufficient to be parochial and to not take a look (and emulate) superior businesses. Obviously, personnel choices can fail - nature of the business, but the idea is to have a number of possibilities on deck - things like player substitutions in a game when you are up big time helps.

A while back, I looked at the number of linemen the Bills have drafted through the last 10 years, and their draft position. Nothing exact, but my impression was not favorable. Yes, in these FA days it can be here today gone in 3 years, but there is benefit in continually acquiring and developing linemen. If they leave, they leave, but don't stop the process. It's called building a bench. It's nail-biting time when a starter goes down with the Bills these days.

And please don't reply with "you're no fan" or some such.

    You're no fan! ;) JK

You are totally right! In the last 10 years, they have drafted all of 2 offensive limemen in round 1, Ruben Brown and Big Mike.

I believe that Ruben was pick #14, kinda high for a guard. Ruben, imo, was a smashing success. He was done at the end, but so what? For years he was a very solid player.

MW, drafted at #4 has imo been a dismal failure when comparing his play to his salary. We are all wishing that he earn his money. Maybe he will, but when?

The rest of our OL draftees (other than Jennings, a 3rd) were late round picks as I recall who have contributed little to nothing. Examples would be Nails, Spriggs, Pucillo, and Sobieski.

On the defensive side, it is differert. The Bills took Flowers in round 1, and Wiley, Kelsay, Schobel and Denney in round 2. All DEs mind you, but imo they are way harder to find than DTs, because many are playing forward in the NBA.

In summary, the Bills need to do a WAY better job at allocating resources to the OL, and drafting good blockers.

  2. sorry i had to edit that one...

henry + draft pick, and/or Reed = Tre Thomas

    317802

If the Eagles were to deal Tre Thomas to the Bills, I doubt that they would even accept a 1st round pick along with Travis Henry. Teams just dont trade solid LTs.

Think about it.....they are winning a ton of games, and you just cant do so without a high quality LT. You just dont see teams trading away these guys...... it doesn't happen.

  3. To paraphrase Mother from Psycho III: "Norman, get down there and run the hotel. What do you expect us to live on, HOPE?"

Yeah, I'm hoping they do well this year. Hoping against hope. But the signs are there that they could really struggle this year. At what point are we forced to start all over again, wipe the slate clean and move forward?

    317677

Not yet imo. There are still some players in Buffalo that I am thrilled to have on the team. He ya go (not in order)

    1) Spikes

    2) Milloy

    3) Big Sam

    4) Vincent

    5) Fletcher

    6) MaGahee

    7) Villarial

    8) Evans

    9) Schobel

    10) Kelsay (OK, maybe a reach, but he has nothing but upside)

    11) Moorman

    13) MaGee

    14) Clements

There is also a ton of talent on STs. This is a very strong nucleus and they appear to be well coached.

I hate saying it, but this season probably depends on an unknown qb. I just hope that if he screws up (a much stronger possibility than most believe), MM will not hesitate too long to pull him.

The Bills, despite a draft that I am not crazy about, do have a chance to be a very good team this year.

  4. Exactly. While the Dolphins and Jets have improved immeasurably, we've done nothing other than cutting Bledsoe to improve. Time for TD to extricate his cranium from his anus and get to work.

    317664

Joe, not to get you more depressed, but we need to wait and see if JP is in fact an improvement over Drew; and if so, will it happen in his first season?

The good news is in terms of improvement is that the NFC is starting to come around, or so it seems. The NFC East is looking stronger, as is the NFC Central.

I for one see no great improvement with the jests nor dolphins, and NE, as great as they are, seem to be in a slight state of decline at the very least.

All we can do is hope.

  5. So McGahee gets hurt once by taking a devestation hit to the knee and he's labeled injury prone? What other injuries has he had? None that I can think of.

    For You Travis lovers...

    #1. He hates this team.

#2. Players aren't too thrilled with him anymore.

#3. He packed all his stuff and moved out of Buffalo.

    He's not coming back.

    317552

No, he really isn't. Unlike others, I strongly feel that the longer he stays, the more his value decreases.

We were said to have been offered a late 4th in a weak draft for TH. If this is to be believed, he will be worth a lower pick in a stronger draft. It just makes sense.

I think that TD would rather cut him when the time comes than give him away for a 6th or 7th round pick, which might very well be his market value. If this is the case, he will probably wait until teams have their rosters pretty well set.

In any event, I hope I am wrong. Maybe a team will need a back due to injuries, etc. and come up with a 4th or so in 06, but I am certainly not holding my breath.

  6. Why release him? That wouldn't even fix him out of spite or send a message as that is exactly what he would love to see happen.

    316900

Because he is a useless loser. Good start?

Have you changed your stance (which you posted numerous times) that there is a better chance of the Bills getting a first round pick for Travis than there is of him getting released outright, or are you still going to run with it?

  7. The board was as fast as lightening, and the entertainment kept on coming!

The following is a brief synopsis of what happened here and statements made:

    1) Badolbilz was taken to task for his lack of football knowledge because he is not a scout.

    2) albany, ny (my man Harvey) second guessed his own football knowledge, despite the fact that he spends hours studying, because he is not a pro.

    3) Gavin was so angry that he shouted obscenities to 2 of his friends.

    4) nodnarb is about to kill the next person who questions TD, or any of his picks.

    5) We all know that FFS is home preparing a 2,000 word evaluation of this draft.

    6) Travis sucks.

    7) TD was smart to NOT trade Travis because he has so much value.

    8) TD threw the draft on purpose.

    9) cablelady is upset because she wants more picks. :)

    10) Mark was "laughed off the board," (This is especially funny  )

    VERY IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER:

I am not insulting anyone who posted these things. I come here because I love the Bills, and I want to talk to others who feel the same way. The guys (and gal) that I named above are great posters. It is great to feel the passion they exude.

All we can do is hope that this was a good draft. I am not thrilled by it, but who knows?

Thanks again to SDS and every moderator. You guys do the grunt work. I may be a pain in the ass and I am sorry, but I truly appreciate what you people do, and the wonderful forum that you provide.

  8. Wait a minute, I thought Bledsoe was the cause of all of our problems for the last 3 years...now you're telling me that Travis Henry contributed as well?  Crap!  I wish we could just get rid of everyone, and start from scratch...............................

    316619

    >>>Wait a minute, I thought Bledsoe was the cause of all of our problems for the last 3 years...<<<

    You got the wrong guy.

  9. I think the boat has sailed on Amos.  It's a cautionary tale though, Amos looked like a pretty good second tier RB prospect.  I gotta' feeling JJ Arrington's career is going to be a cross between those of Justin Fargas and Amos.

    316609

I copied your post and sent it to him in an E-Mail. He will be calling me in about a half hour. He is one funny dude.

If you recall, Rory knows him from when Amos was in high school and really likes him. He wants Amos on the Bills in the worst way.

  10. Oh sh*t! You guys are f'ing killing me with this whining about negative opinions on picks by responding with negative attacks on TBD posters.  You're ruining the board!!!      :w00t:

    316556

You dont know what you are talking about Badol. Get a clue. You are not a GM nor scout.

PS: It looks like the phins or the jests this year. We wanted the falcons, but Rory cant do it. He is already thinking up questions, and wants to know if the Bills will sign Amos. :)

  11. You can view TD as greedy only if you think he viewed dishing TH as a priority and got left holding his schlong. TD was probably more of the mindset of 'If you want him impress me, if not I'll keep him...no biggie."

A backup RB who costs very little and MUST play hard everytime he touches the ball to impress potential suitors? Sign me up. Holding out would severely diminish his chances at a big pay day next year...so tell me again why TD is greedy in not dealing him away for not much?

    316210

    Gavin, Gavin, Gavin.......

Of course he runs hard. He is a good runner. He is bad at everything else! I was at the Arizona game at which the Bills started winning. Getting Travis off the field (and of course putting a complete back on it) was the major reason the Bills started to win football games.

Look at his record as a starter, please. The guy is a loser. I wanted a good pick for him as much as anybody on this board. It was not forthcoming, nor will it be.

Anyway, to answer your question, TD WAS greedy because he should have got rid of this miscreant loser last season when he was probably worth something.

  12. After watching the draft this weekend, i dont think ive ever sen such lousy prospects in my life.

It wil be hilarious to see the grades 3 years from now on this draft.

Gotta give TD credit on one thing, if he did trade Travis for a 2nd or 3rd, we would really be getting 5-6th round talent with the way this draft is. It might be smarter to trade henry for a 2nd next year or wait for summer when someone gets injured cause this draft is pathectic.

Im not joking, imagine how many of these kids drafted after the frist round will not be in the NFL in 3-4 years. id say over 75%. thats just hhow poor and laughable this draft is. Whats really scarey for the Packers is, Rodgers fell to 24 in an already awful draft. Thank god we got Losman last year.

    316467

When will it end? TD couldn't get a 4th for Travis Gump in a draft that is said to be a poor one. Now, you think he will get a 2nd in an upcoming strong draft?

    Hello????

  13. TH won't be on the roster come opening day.  A team or two will have injuries at RB during camp and preseason, and they will be very desperate to find someone, and TH will be far and away the best back available.

By all accounts, this year's prospects are somewhat underwhelming, but TH may garner us a couple of decent picks in the following year's draft from a desperate team.

    316326

Seriously, I wish I could be a blind optimist. This is NOT a dig. I am saying this with envy. If today and yesterday failed to prove to you what little value Travis Henry has, I dont know what, if anything will.

If TD will be able to trade this dumbass, he will have to swallow his pride and take crumbs as compared to the projections made on this board.

If not, Travis Gump will be cut. Yes, I said it.....released outright.
