1. Why - i think this might be a bit of an over-reaction.

First, i don't think he was flying down the road, as his fine was all of $50. Second, that was just uncalled for, man... "placing the lives of your family in peril."

    jeez

    225916

Steve, if this tale really did take place (remember this IS the internet), dont you think that there is much more to the story?

    C'mon dude.

  2. i don't think it's "obvious" they need cb's -- we seemed to get by just fine with what we had last season and all of those guys are returning.......

the defense wasn't the problem last year, it was the offense........if you sink money into CB your taking money away from other NEED areas......

do you want a CB over a LT? a LG? i don't.......i'd rather keep those areas steady/improve them then to tinker with what is already a top defense.......

if you want to spend money at CB, spend it on nate and mcgee by extending them......

    225938

You raise great points. Mine is that the cb position will have to be addressed. Hopefully, we can get deeper at cb AND OL.

There will never be a time when I am against bringing better blocking to the Buffalo Bills. :w00t:

  3. If the team gave his agent permission to seek a trade, I would think that a renegotiation is certainly possible, no?

The Bills imo are at a near crisis state at the cb position. Clements must be salivating while thinking about the big bucks paid to Winfield, an inferior player (to NC imo) and his deal is up next season.

I like Magee a lot, but the fact that he returns punts makes him a huge injury risk.

Obviously, the Bills need cbs, and will obtain help there one way or another.

This is going to be one great offseason!

  4. I HATE cops.

I was stopped for speeding on Christmas morning on my way to church (nobody else on the road).  Dressed all nice w/ the family in the car.  The cop tells me if I don't respond to the ticket by the date shown, I'll go to jail - in front of my kids.  My kids (5 & 9), on Christmas AM, are all panicked that daddy's going to jail.  Then for some reason he asks me "what I do for a living".  On top of that, as I pull away my wife looks at the ticket and tells me the date he wrote on the ticket says January 25, 2004.  (Obviously he meant 2005 but since he went out of his way to tell me I was going to jail if I fail to appear then writes a date I can't possibly meet, I think even more that he's an a$$wipe).

I start thinking about this and decide to pay a visit to his boss (small town police chief) a week or so later.  The chief's secretary says he's in a meeting & can't see me.  I say, well I need to speak to someone about a traffic so I'll wait.  Then she goes in the back and the chief magically appears.  I explain the situation & he says the cop was new & was wrong to talk about jail & also about asking what I do for a living - says that's only necessary if there was an accident involved.  Looks at the ticket & says there's stuff missing on here (blocks not filled out) - if I were you I'd consider fighting this.  Also says he'll talk to the cop & have him clean up his act.

So I go to Court, plead not guilty and have a "trial".  I was the first idiot to have trial that night so I didn't know in advance what to expect.  The prosecutor starts by asking the officer if he saw a Dodge pickup speeding, etc. & other questions.

When it's my turn I ask the officer if he testified he saw a Dodge pickup speeding.  He says yes & I say that's funny cause I don't own a pickup, it's an SUV.  I also ask him how long he's been on the force & he replies 2 months.  The crowd is enjoying this (the little guy is winning at this point).  I ask him about errors on the ticket including the wrong social security number & wrong number of passengers in the car.  I also ask why many blanks on the ticket were empty.  He says, they were all filled out sir - maybe they didn't go thru onto your copy.  So I ask him to bring over his copy of the ticket and sure enough, all's filled out on his version.  Funny though, on multi-part forms when a word doesn't go through all the way you usually see at least PARTS of words on your copy.  Mine was clean as a whistle.  Obviously the chief tipped off the cop to fill in the rest of the form before Court.  When I ask about mentioning jail in front of my kids & what I do for a living, the cop contradicts his boss & says that's standard procedure.  When I say I know it's not, the prosecutor says "hearsay" & I get cut off.

So the Judge says I made some good points but finds me guilty & hits me with a $50 fine.  I think I'm doing OK until I get to the caashier and they add on an extra $85 fee because they held a "trial".  That was never explained previously.  I was pissed but at least I exposed the cop for the a$$ he is, in front of the prosecutor, judge and several of his peers.  It was worth the cost of the ticket.

Did I mention I HATE cops?

    225879

If your story is true, then the officer was at best unprofessional. I could not imagine making such an empty verbal threat in front of children, even if the motorist was a total a-hole, which is certainly possible, if not very likely.

Tell me though, you did admit to speeding. How fast were you going? I see that you deemed it to be a safe speed because the road (on Christmas morning) was empty.

The thing is, if you were flying down the road at a dangerous speed with your children aboard, perhaps instead of hating all cops because of one jerk, you might want to consider hating yourself instead, for placing the lives of your family in peril.

  5. That is a lovely attitude................of course the actions of one person are a true representation of an entire profession  :w00t:

Your attitude allows such lovely movements as racism and sexism to thrive.

Care to share exactly why you feel that way about all of us? (and I'll bet your attitude will change the next time you need some help)

    225750

Mike, you should no better than to entertain an idiot like the person you responded to (jt 34).

Also, I resent the tone of the original post. One jackass in Waterbury, NY and we should all question the character and stability of our local police? :I starred in Brokeback Mountain:

As you say, there are bad apples all over, but I have found police officers to have extremely high character. Cops, instead of lashing out at others, usually act out against themselves. As a profession, cops tend to "lead the league" in suicide, divorce and alcoholism. Couple this with low pay and weird hours and it can be a rough ride. It can also be a good ride. The following is my advice to you....

    1. Be nice to your wife. She can take your pension at her leisure, as well as your house. You will have a better life anyway by having a better marriage. It makes sense.

    2. Plan now for your retirement and get out the day you can. Fatten your pension with overtime. You deserve it.

    3. Maintain friendships with non-cops. A different perspective is mandatory.

    4. Above all, be careful. Cops as an everyday thing race to jobs like "man with a gun" or "shots fired." This lends itself toward an officer being casual about it. Watch ther car stops, and just let vans go unless you absolutely have to stop them. There is NO safe way to stop one. Screw it.

Be well, succeed, and dont be offended by jackasses. It amazes me, but despite the drawbacks I listed above, you will find that many are jealous of cops, as silly as this may sound.

    God Bless.

  6. It's Patrick Sertain, but I agree that it would be great. This won't be very popular for those 2nd round pick hopefuls, but you can never have to much talent in the secondary. Our secondary would be second to none in the league with Clements and Sertain starting, McGee/Thomas in the nickel, and Vincent and Milloy playing deep.

    225719

Miami would probably want one of our higher draft choices along with TH, and even then I am skeptical that they would do it.

  7. :D    :(

Yeah, is this the same "real NFL Insider" that thinks we'll be lucky to get anything for Travis Henry????

Do us all a favor and spare us from this idiots "inside" information. I have a feeling that he scouts for the Redskins, a team that has been the worst in the NFL at finding draft picks and productive free agents to help their team.

    225188

You might want to wait and see how thisTravis thing plays out before you pat yourself on the back for being right, and scoff at VAB's info.

YOU may see Travis as this highly desired commodity. This is great, but we will soon see if any GMs want to give up a 2nd round pick, which was the cost for Dillon, and Faulk in his prime.

Compared to these two, Travis is a bag of sh--.

  8. >>>>>There are alot of variables caused by FA, but don't be surprised if we don;t draft or pick-up an FA OL guy if we resign JJ.<<<<

Imo, this would be a huge mistake.

First of all, the Bills will have cap room. Where do you think they should spend it if not OL? If the Bills do not sign a free agent OG, I would expect them to draft one with their first selection.

This is a good idea in and of itself, but sadly, I think that the Bills will draft a cb with their first selection, where the need is almost at a crisis level because of the NC contract status and the fact that MaGee returns kicks.

Once again, Jennings, next to a superior LG, would be an even better player.

I can see no reason to pass up this chance to upgrade this position.

PS: If Smith is as good as you think he is, he could conceivably bring us something in a trade.

  9. TT bulked up to over 300lbs this year... Small????? TT was clearly our best OL'man this year. You can see that the middle got a whole lot stronger when we finally put a servicable guy at LG (Tucker.)

For those of you who have never played OL, you cannot be good with a weak player next to you.... Period! I don't care how good you really are, if there is a weak link next to you, it will be exploited. TT often found himself trying to do more than "his job." He had no choice. It made him look bad too.

Playing C is more about quickness and smarts than bulky physical play. Someone mentioned Mawae (sp?.) He is not a big guy. But he has great hands, great leverage and is VERY smart on the field.

As far as Tucker is concerned... give the guy props. He did a very solid job. Personally, I like the kid at LG. If a better LG became available, I'd take him and move Tucker back to #1 depth at G/C, but I still think the kid is a solid OL'man who really stepped it up this year when called upon. Some here have him written off as a MUST replace... why?

    224777

Good post. I tried to make clear that imo, Tucker improved, and there is no reason to not expect further improvement.

I partially disagree with you wrt Teague. Imo, the biggest difference maker on the Bills OL was CV. He may not be much bigger than TT, but from where I sit he plays a tougher game. MWs game clearly declined when CV was hurt, which proves what you said about weak links being exploited.

I see TT as more suited to be a LT because of his agility, and seems to lack the brute strength that I like in a guard.

  10. The real uncertainty with resigning Pat is Minnesota. That team has a lot of money that can be wrecklessly thrown his way (a la Winfield), and the Cottrell connection can't help.

As for O-line, call me conservative but I'd rather stick with JJ and Teague (and sign a free agent LG) than get a marquee LT and a bigger C. I don't doubt that we could afford such upgrades, but some of that cap space needs to go towards extending Clements and McGee.

Here's my complete need list for free agency:

    K (no freaking clue...Christie???  :) )

starting LG (plenty of good ones to choose from)

    starting TE (Freddie Jones?)

backup QB (Kordella?... only if Bledsoe doesn't take pay cut)

backup RB (Amos Zeroue would be good...assuming TH is traded)

    third WR (Peerless???  )

    Jonas Jennings

    Pat Williams

    Nate Clements (extension)

    Terrence McGee (extension)

    224764

I would be fine with your list IF Jennings is paid 5 mil or below (in terms of average salary for the length of the contract) and you substitute Fiedler for Kordell.

    Please, not Kordell!

Also, are you happy with TT at OC? I am not saying he is bad, but he, given our opponents, seems a bit too small.

  11. What exactly do you see as the upside to NYC? Compare Upstate New York with any typical Midwestern state. Chances are the Midwestern state has significantly lower taxes, less governmental bloat, fewer people leaving, fewer social parasites moving in, and an overall brighter future. The ONLY reason these things are not true of Upstate New York as well is that it has the misfortune of being lumped in with New York City.

    224721

You raise some valid points, but it is hard for me to believe that NYC is the ONLY thing wrong with what is happening upstate.

A couple of years ago, I went to Niagra Falls for the first time. There were police cars flying all over the place, and some of the area looked like a slum. I understand that this can happen anywhere (DC for example), but as an outsider, I was surprised to see a ghetto in the background of one of the wonders of the world.

My point is that I suspect that people upstate do have other issues besides NYC.

  12. Please tell me how we sign a big LT and OC and still resign big Pat.

Not to mention a backup QB and RB. Wheres the money tree?

    224749

    I can only try. :)

A "name" LT would have to get a big signing bonus spread out over a long term deal to make the cap hit possible. An OC would not cost as much.

If I understand the cap correctly, the Bills would save approx. 2.5 mil by cutting Drew. If they do not cut him, they dont need a backup qb, right? Amos Zeroue is a ufa who would probably cost less than 1 mil per season, and rbs shouldn't be too tough to find in the draft.

As for PW, I have mixed emotions. He is not young, and he probably weighs close to 400 lbs. He IS good, but I dont know how long he can keep it up, especially after seeing him come off the field quite a bit for substitutions in 04. Also, Robertson is a player who imo is improving.

Yeah, I would like for PW to stay on the team, but it depends on the price, and the length of the deal.

  13. While thinking about the JJ contract situation, it occured to me that JJ has never lined up next to a very good player.

Imo Tucker, due to coaching and effort, wound up somewhere around average at LG. When JJ played RT, it was a given that the RG sucked, whereas the Bills, before CV, have not had a good RG on the roster in 10 years. We did see how much MW improved while playing next to a proven skilled vet.

Looking at the NFC East, I think it is very important for the Bills to strengthen the LG and OC positions. Our opponents have monsters in the middle of their DLs, such as Robertson, Wilfork and Seymour which mandates the Bills to get better inside. Remember when Parcells claimed that he signed Mawae (sic) at OC because of Ted Washington? Desperate times call for desperate measures.

If JJ opts out of Buffalo, I obviously hope that TD pursues a "big name" LT, but I would not be surprised to see FA money go toward the OC and LG positions, with Teague moving outside to LT.

Can TT handle LT? Before McNally, I would have guessed no, but if the coaches like the move, and the Bills can bring in a quality LG, it might be a possibility.

The good news is that I can remember many seasons where the entire OL sucked except Ruben Brown. Now, the Bills have more talent, better coaching, and less spots to fill in order to field a strong, solid OL. Jmo.

  14. At least the lefties that controlled public schools in the good old days actually taught us about things like the first amendment and why it was important.

I guess now they just teach "Bush Bad".

    224241

So true KD, so friggin sad, but true!

The best social studies teacher I ever had was a huge liberal. He was a big time McGovern supporter, etc., but unlike the phony liberal of today, he was into free speech, and would never penalize a student for expressing his or her views. In fact, he encouraged this!

My daughter attends an Ivy League school. Her professor lowered her grade because she argued against his assertion that Ronald Reagan was a "liberal." He is lucky that my daughter, a Hispanic, is far more tolerant than I am. She could have made things rough for the prof, but chose, at her own expense, to rise above.

To this day, there are liberals that I have a ton of respect for, but their numbers are dwindling. The leftists of today are dictatorial in nature and stifle things such as free speech and the rights of property owners at every possible turn.

    Sad indeed.

  15. Let the jests fans have what they deserve, a stadium with no parking lot and no tailgates. They can go to a 12 dollar per beer bar in which no smoking is allowed.

Enjoy yourselves, morons! I will be partying with Mark, cl, 89, Badolbilz and crew, R.Rich, Lancaster Steve, JIS, bill in livonia, and whoever else cares to honor me with their presence! Sorry to those I left out.

There should be no jests fans living in the state of NY imo. I lived in Queens for 34 years and am a recovering jest fan. They left us. They decided to abandon their NYC fans. Honestly, they did me a favor, because the day they left, I commited myself to the Buffalo Bills football team and have never looked back.

Have fun jests fans! Spend $300 - $500 dollars to see a football game with no tailgate (the best part of football)!!!

Tell them Bill from NYC says hello from Orchard Park, where he tailgates and watches football games with the greatest fans of any team in any sport.

  16. is that a chargers rule or a city rule?

    223730

Well, this same person claims that there is a parking lot across the street where people are allowed to enjoy themselves.

Again, I don't know this guy very well and do not assume that he is telling the truth. I hope that he isn't.

  17. If that's the case, as much as I want to visit SD for a game, there's NO WAY I'd go there.

    223667

Again, I dont know this to be true, but it IS scary.

I travel 900 miles round trip to see the Bills every year. Why would people do this if they are watching a game in police state setting?

  18. He reminds me of guys like:

    James Lofton

    Anthony Miller (chagers)

    Anthony Carter (vikings)

Great Speed.  Great Hands.  Great Pattern runner.  It will be another year or two before you can tell anything about his toughness, but so far he hasn't shown anything that makes you think his toughness should be questioned.  The only downside is his size.  Although he has good leaping ability, I don't see him winning

"Jump Balls" like a Randy Moss or Terrell Owens.

By the way....I will be one of those few that will admit I was wrong about Lee Evans on draft day.  I didn't think they should draft him because I thought it would be 2 or 3 years before he would be able to contribute.  He was AWSOME this year!

    223644

I too was disappointed on draft day. I employed the R.Rich philosophy of going after Big Guys, like Carey, Wilfork, Snee, etc.

It eased the pain considerably watching Evans race into the end zone.
