1. I think you need to have a balanced WR set and you don't have it if you take Moulds out of the equation..

Lee Evans is your speed guy, will stretch the field, Moulds is your possesion guy, should catch anything thrown at him,can go up,over or slant, although he had a slight problem doing that last year but then again Josh Reed had a worse problem and you want him to move to be your possesion guy, when more then likely he will be dropped to your #4 WR or off the team entirely..?

As for Parrish,I don't see him getting much of a chance beyond being that slot WR at some point. From what I have read and heard he will compair well to Antwan Randel El,who I see struggling this year for Pittsburgh as their #2.

I dont know if I am allowed to say this, but I doubt that Reed makes the roster this year.

  2. nodnarb,

Yes, I can understand your frustration. None of us here are GMs. You would not want me to be your doctor because I watched ER on television once.

I can also understand someone not liking day 1, especially the Parrish pick.

Remember, it was MM who rode into town with cries of "smashmouth." I dont know if Parrish is good or bad, but he is certainly not the kind of player I wanted. At least not yet.

    Mickey,

Well said. I am certainly not "unhinged," yet I wish that TD would have gone in another direction.

Why the Bills organization does not care to allocate draft picks in early rounds to blockers I do not know, especially with a potentially great running back and a qb who is but a kid. Then when they do so, we wind up with a 9 million dollar thorn in our side at RT.

I think that I cut TD a little more slack than do you. I take into account the mess that he inherited, and the fact that RW does not have Paul Allens' money. That said, I dont think that he has placed enough emphasis on blocking, and I dont see the team reaching the next level until he does.

  3. The interesting thing to watch re: the O-line as the pre-season makes it's way to the regular season will be:

Will a likely upgrade at LG and an overall upgrade in the "beef" or "short yardage push" department offset a loss of ability at LT this season?

    Another interesting point:

Once our O-line fudged their way through the first four games last season they actually played quite well the rest of the way, giving up the fewest sacks in a 9 or 10 game span in quite some time, and paving the way for a decent running game. All this with an immobile QB. There may be something more than mere crapp to work with here after all....

    315777

Well, my feelings about the "first 4 games" are well doccumented, but in any case, you are clearly correct. They did improve, and played very well at times, especially when CV was healthy.

The Pittsburgh game still bugs me, but my reasons are different than the majority of posters who blindly point only at Drew. The truth is, their 2nd string OL had their way with us at RWS....this with a playoff spot at stake! I want the Bills to have this kind of talent and depth up front, and they should. The weather is cold, JP is a kid and WM is potentially a great back, but he still needs room to run, and this cannot be disputed.

    End of rant. :D

  4. Exactly. In a word, it gives Mularkey's offense versatility. He likes to incorporate gadget plays and get the TEs involved, as well. Every team in the league assumes that the Bills will be a running team...having as many options as possible at your disposal keeps your opponents off-balance.

    315762

I see your point, but I certainly understand the frustration of those who seek better blocking. Options mean little when the qb is on his a$$.

Remember, it was MM who declared the Bills a smashmouth team.

I have no idea how these picks will fare. I also dont know if any of our TEs are healthy. What I do hope is that TD drafts some good, young blockers tomorrow. Our talent level up front doesn't seem high, nor does the depth.

  5. Except that Donahoe needs a team to trade with.  A team that still wants Henry.  All FIVE of the teams that were rumored to be interested before the draft - Arizona, Philadelphia, Tampa, Chicago, and Miami - drafted running backs before the 80th pick today.  I don't imagine any of them are still in the market.

And if Travis really does refuse to show up to training camp (he can't be THAT dumb, can he?) and sits out the summer and into the fall, how much trade value would he have left if a team suddenly needs a back due to injury?  A team in that situation would want someone who could step in right away, not a perceived malcontent who hasn't been in live football action in almost a year.

I'm just afraid that we're down to hoping that some other team's starting back rips up a knee in mini-camp.

I don't often disagree with Donahoe because he makes a lot of money to know more about it than I do, but I think he may have misjudged the market on this one and gotten stuck with a player he doesn't want.  There is no doubt that Henry could be an asset to most teams, but he won't be an asset to the Buffalo Bills if he's b*tching and whining about his role and refusing to show up to workouts.

Not too friggin shabby for a first post.

    Welcome to TBD.

  6. Amen, to that my Bills Brother!

    315692

What makes you feel the need to pile on? Feeling funny about this brilliant statement?:D:w00t:

    >>>>His pass catching skills are better than average but not the best. He is tough to bring down in the open field. Ask Zach Thomas. Not very fast but will get you lots of yards and I won't be surprised if someday he has 1600 yards rushing very soon.<<<<

    Have a nice day.

  7. someone else mentioned koppen and smith (steelers), but i'd add dermontti dawson and jason fabini, to name just a couple (there are many, many others).  people can offer all kinds of sophistry defending the parrish pick, but i can't see it as anything other than lousy judgement. hopefully, i'll be wrong, as i have been many times before. but i do know that the center and lt position on the bills has been a cancer since wolford left after 92 and hull retired after 96.

    315673

You are of course correct, and RG was perhaps worse (or at least as bad) until TD brought in CV. I cannot remember a RG who was not simply awful on the team for more than 10 years.

As AKC said, CV was an extremely important factor in the Bills victories last season. I hope that Anderson makes a similar impact on the other side.

  8. He can return kicks, but he doesn't have the power to break those one or two tackles it takes to make consistently long returns.  This pick could also signal the end of Nate's punt return days.

    315639

Is he stronger than the guy we had just a few years ago? I forget his name. He had blinding speed but would fall if there was a strong wind....the weakest NFL player I ever saw.

    Also, how is the TE?

  9. TD has "all the cards" with relation to TH... *Snicker*

    and

Get Away! Get Back! I'm Calling The Police!, these are the sounds of.....

... TD fighting away the trade offers for Travis Henry

Yeah, sounds like constructive criticism and speaking out about OL help to me... :D

    314650

Gavin, I think that you know that I have been screaming about the OL since the Fina/Ostroski days.

As for this thread, I was having a little fun. You know damn well that I want what is best for the Bills. I have devoted countless hours and thousands of dollars to being a Bills fan, and am in the finishing stages of deciding what game to attend this season, our 12th consecutive outing to RWS.

I have said all along that Travis is a sub-par back. Now, no GM is willing to cough up a 3rd round pick in a weak draft. Big deal. There are posters on this board that I consider football experts. I am not one of them. If you want to get bummed about something, read what Badolbilz has to say about Parrish.

As for Travis, I hope that we can get a 4th round pick and end this, OK Buddy?

  10. I'm a 'Canes fan, I didn't like Roscoe.  He is small, plays small, a miniscule target who drops some easy passes and hasn't any power at all.  A heavy breath will knock him to the ground.  A couple times, I thought he was killed dead on the field.  He lived, but he missed time.  The 'Canes are really going thru a down time, simialar to the early 90's, when they can't find good receivers who can actually catch the ball, otherwise Roscoe wouldn't have played much.

He became to me, a symbol of the decline of the program this year and I was so looking forward to his graduation.  This pick is bad, but consistent with Donahoe's history of drafting small receivers with limited upside like Josh Reed and Troy Edwards.  He needs to stay away from those guys and stick more to the dymamic talents like Lee Evans.  TD really scared me the other day when he was singing the praises of Josh Reed, who he claimed to have drafted to be a #3 receiver.  He spent a very early second rounder on Reed in a decent draft year.

The only positives are the fact that it's a dogass draft, and that they didn't trade Travis Henry to draft ROSCOE!  :w00t:

    315008

    Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Can he return kicks? :w00t:

  11. Scott, you are correct no doubt.

I dont know enough about this kid to like or dislike the pick. What concerns me is that no matter who the Bills GM is, blocking seems to be something of an after thought. Then, when we do grab an early blocker in the draft, he turns out to be a 9 million dollar whale.

The steelers took out their starting blockers and put in substitutes who pushed our 3rd ranked defense around. I just think that having a strong and deep OL is the way to win football games, especially for a team that plays in the cold and calls it's offense "smashmouth." :w00t:

Having said all that, maybe there were no offensive linemen that TD and company liked that much at all. I dont know, but count me as one who thinks that it is time for TD to produce, or be shown the door.

  12. I dont understand why some here think TH is SO valuable...look at the way he sulked and played last year....think about his weaknesses we ALL talk about here all the time...bad against picking up the blitz...he sometimes goes invisible in games on the road....sure he ran for 1300, 1400 yards...but I just never have ever gotten that sense the TH was a upper echelon RB. Hes a very good back, but there are a lot more very good RB's then upper echelon ones.  And he isnt a great receiving back either.

At this point, if a 3rd rounder is what the Bills get then so be it. AT LEAST the player they will draft can produce for the Bills, think about what TH means to the Bills NOW....really not much.

NE gave up a 2nd for Dillon last year, and Im sorry, I know TH is younger, but Dillon is better then TH, more dymanic, more explosive.

    313927

    "Homer" mentality, plain and simple.

Nothing wrong with it mind you, until it is presented and or confused with fact.

  13. I dont think the Browns were going to be drafting a RB anyways, so why would this hurt Travis' value?  If Miami stays at #2, they'll definitely take Ronnie Brown, so thats one off the board.

Miami will not take Braylon Edwards...its all a smokescreen that they are trying to put up in order to make Minnesota or Chicago panic.  Of course, with those two stupid teams, it could work.

    313685

WOW!!!! This kid has always been my favorite player in this draft, but I dont recall having ever seen a player move up THAT much!

  14. It cost the Bills a 2nd and 5th last year, plus this year's 1st to get the 22nd overall last draft, which they used on JP, so it would take more than next year's 1st and 4th in most years.  This year may be different since teams are looking to trade out of the 1st round.  I think with QB's it's not a bad move since it gives them a year in the system, and considering that Aaron Rodgers is thought of so little that he may drop all the way to #24 (GB, whereas if people thought much of him he wouldn't make it past TB's first pick at #5)), I think the Bills made the right move in trading up to get JP last year.

    313634

It is simply impossible to say whether or not it was a good deal. We lost a 2nd and a 5th, and JP was injured for the bulk of the season. It certainly didn't help the Bills in 04, but that was then.

The qb group in this draft does not look impressive (my favorite is Campbell) so it does seem as if the move was timely, but I need to watch JP play football in a real game before calling this trade the "right move," or for that matter, the wrong move.
