1. I couldnt disagree more. The Atlanta Falcons had their offensive strength negated yesterday- they could not effectively run the ball.

Michael Vick is a different type of QB, much the way Steve Young was- and people resisted that change too. Vick is going to be the type of QB who will eventually fake to a couple running backs, then take off, opening lanes for himself. Then when a DB comes up, he can unload the ball.

Vick only had 2 years of college ball, and a couple years in the pro's, minus last year's injury. It takes time to develop- even if people are way too impatient.

The game is changing, and nobody is going to stop it.

Nice post, and I agree. His day will come. He got pretty far this year with a not so great team.

  2. Thanks   And don't worry, we've already established that we typically disagree with each others opinions lol.......makes the world go 'round, bro  ;)

    My pleasure, and I agree.

Hey, there are people who wish I would drive into a tree because I dont think that the raiders would give up Gallery for Travis Henry!

(and yes, that trade was proposed on this board) :D

  3. Uh oh.......here comes DC Tom, LA Billz, and the rest of the anti-Bledsoe police

    215411

Although I dont agree with it, that was a GREAT one liner!!!!!!:D

I am picturing them suiting up with their uniforms and badges.

Does DC Tom know yet that he has been "deputized?" It wont bother him. Like myself, he has been called worse on tsw.

  4. I am sure that the Falcons owner (Blank?) is still fuming over giving up a 1st for Peerless. It must hurt that much more when he sees MaGahee, but it is vital, and difficult indeed to keep a qb who runs like this in one piece.

Jonas Jennings is a good blocker. He reportedly wants to play in Atlanta. There will be a market for Jonas because he can play any OL position and of course he is a good player.

Jennings has already played RT, and would be prepared to move right over and protect Vick's blindside.

My proposal? Franchise Jennings and cut a deal with Atlanta for their 2nd round pick. Blank could save face by not being fleeced for another first round pick, and secure a blocker who wants to be a falcon. Perhaps Jennings would even accept a tad less than open market value to play there.

If nothing can be done, lift the tag, whereas it would be too costly and just not practical to pay JJ 8 mil. per year. He is not worth this kind of cap space imo.

Would the falcons do it again?

Just a passing thought from a fan who desperately wants the Bills to get back into the first round.

  5. That, and poise in the pocket are the two things that make him effective.  Contrast that to another "great" quarterback like...oh, Michael Vick, whose inclination is to take off running rather than progress through his reads and wait for his receivers to get open, and couldn't hit the broad side of the barn from the inside.

Tom, do you think that Mora was too conservative? There were times that I was waiting for Vick to take off and he would throw a bad pass instead.

Vick is not my idea of a prototype qb at all, but I think that he will win a Lombardi Trophy or 2 before he is finished. He is just that gifted.

  6. I think Bill Cowher did a tremendous job this year. 16-2 is a terrific season - with a rookie QB no less.

    216245

    I fully agree.

Another thing to consider is that Cowher coached for many years for one of the "poorer" owners in the NFL and still won consistently. TD is to be given credit as well for winning under those conditions. Correct me if I am mistaken, but Rooney was said to be one of the only owners that actually depended on his team making a profit to earn a living, and this was BEFORE the days of Snyder, Jones, Allen, etc.

Do you remember the playoff game (Bills vs. Steelers) where Bruce was sick? During that game, a huge DT sacked Kelly and stood over him, giving him the "six gun" and taunting him. To his credit, Glenn Parker came flying in and leveled this idiot. When the steeler came off the field, Cowher physically accosted him. He was screaming in his face and wouldn't let the player walk away.

Because he looks like a maniac and is SO intense, he rarely gets mentioned as one of the great NFL coaches, but imo he ranks right up there, and colorful antics notwithstanding, he seems to be a total gentleman.

What I DONT like is the way he took MM to school in our last game :D , but there is no reason to believe that MM will not be a very fine head coach some day.

In summary, if I owned a football team, I would be fine with giving Cowher a long term contract.

  7. Well, for one reason, after the team changed running backs, the team finished 9-3. This was good, but not enough to compensate for the 19 sacks allowed in the first 4 games. as well as the missed blocks and falling down (untouched) in front of huge holes. The wrong pass routes didn't help either.

Ridding the Bills of a chronic loser (check the w/l stats) will certainly push the Bills into the playoffs in 05. Wait and see1 :D

  8. I think between the 2 the Raiders would rather work on the fumbling issue than work on the durability issue with Jordan. Norv Turner will run his starting RB until he's dragging on the ground ( see Ricky Williams week 3 2003 vs the Bills where he got 40+ carries). I also am not 100% certain that the Jets are going to trade Jordan. Everything I have heard says that Herman Edwards absolutely loves Jordan....and wants to groom him to be the featured back sooner rather than later.

    215033

Jordan is a UFA. He cannot be traded.

  9. Like I said...too bad they weren't a viable option...

Never heard that about O'Dwyer, though.

    214239

Jumbo Elliot was there. He beat up a girl and several others.

Talk about wrong place, wrong time......Jason Fabini who by all accounts is a good and quiet kid was there as well and got locked up with them, but he didn't get into trouble.

  10. I don't know if I'd go as far as "heros".  Shooting a lunatic doesn't quite meet any definition of "heroism" that I hold to.  But again...that doesn't mean they were in the wrong.

And it's just too bad - for everyone - that mace or a Taser either weren't available or weren't a viable option.

    214219

As for the hero question, they at least saved eachother's lives. Yes, imo this counts.

Mace? Taser? Matt O'Dwyer (an ex-jet) ripped a taser out of his chest and injured about 10 cops in Long Beach NY. I have seen tasers work and not work. There is also no time for pepper spray when a gun is laying on the floor and someone is getting punched and kicked by a 380 lb man who is snarling, laughing and barking.

Btw, I have seen pepper spray that would drop the two of us on our asses NOT work on psychotics.

  11. Although I don't condone FFS's public calling out, I am glad to see it's the first post he's ever made that is under 5,000 words.

    214170

He was talking football. It was perfectly OK for him to name me steve. FFS and I go back for many years, and I have never seen him get personal toward me nor others. I even welcome his questions.

I would rather read football questions from FFS than racial slurs from a pompous fool.

    How about you?

  12. One would hope so.  Unfortunately, when mental illness gets to the point of severe lead poisoning such as that, it's usually a hopeless case...

Of course I have the utmost sympathy for Robbins and wish he'd get (or had gotten) help.  At the same time...the police involved did absolutely nothing wrong.  A guy that size attacks you, you do what you can to defend yourself and worry about why he's doing it afterwards.

    213502

I fully agree. Tom, remember, this took place in a bathroom.

I can tell you from experience that IF you can, in that situation the thing to do is get OUT and call for Emergency Service (the guys with the toys), but again...IF you can! Imagine the riccochet that could happen if three cops were unloading into this guy!?

I think the cops were in a situation where there was simply no choice, and acted appropriately. They did the right thing and are heros. They probably are also feeling pretty sad right about now.

  13. The best part about getting rid of Henry in the next 2 weeks will be not having to read BINYC's rants on him anymore. The extra draft pick and cap space won't hurt either.

For that matter, getting rid of Drew as well may finally bring more unity to this board. At least until ICE returns...

    213273

If you dont like my posts, you should try not reading them. It will give you more time to endlessly bash Drew, and you can practice up on your racial slurs which you hold so dear.

    Now, run along little Asswipe.

  14. >>>>>I think there is a ragin' moderate case to be made for Henry and as a long time TSW poster I think you can help us find it if you wish. Are you football guy enough to give us the best case (even if it is not a great case for someone trading value for Henry?<<<<<

I will happily answer you in terms of how I understand what you are asking.

I might be interesrted in TH if I were Bill Cowher. The OL is big and strong, and when Travis runs straight ahead at the LOS, there would be a better chance at him finding a hole. Travis has certainly proven that he is able to run in the NF>

I would not want him to start, but think he could share the load well with Bettis (old) and the Duce (banged up).

His record asa starter is as bad as it gets. All his fault? Certainly not, but Drew gets his feet held to the fire for his w/l pct., right? one day. f things are slow, look up the w/l record of the Buffalo Bills with TH as a starter.

Anyway, because he CAN run and is young and cheap, were I Cowher, I would probably go as high as a 5th round pick, maybe a 4th.

  15. you still haven't explained why he wouldn't work in our scheme but has performed at a pro bowl level in three DIFFERENT schemes.......

    212615

I dont think that "cheap" is the right word for TD.

That said, Kendall did work out well for the jests. One question.....why does he keep bouncing from team to team? The rarely happens with the better offensive linemen, right?
