  1. That may be true of TD's overall drafting record but that doesn't apply to JP or Willis!

BTW, I think we're thinner at safety on defense overall.   One injury there and we're screwed.

Actually, I was looking at the Bills overall more than just TD. Wrt Willis, that is a good point. I would think that he was more of a "best player available" pick, with an element of "need" as well.

    Need Picks:

!. Moulds (Kelly was screaming for another receiver)

    2. M. Williams (Fina and Ostroski were cut and the OL was shot)

    3. Flowers (Bruce retired)

    4. Winfield (Losses at cb due to free agency and injury)

    5. Evans (Moulds aging, and no other good receiver on roster)

Some players do fall into both categories. For example, when TD drafted Clements, we did need a corner, but that was far from the only need. Same with Burress. Levy had a thing for the CB position, and LOVED to draft them.

My best example of a bpa pick is actually Sam Cowart. We were stocked with lbs. Our OL was awful at best, and we needed a TE. Oddly enough, there were huge injuries at lb, and Cowart turned out to be an ideal fit and a simply wonderful selection.

I am not making a case on what TD "should" do. Obviously, he is the expert; he is the pro, not I. My initial post was all about my opinion, and what I think will happen on draft day.

The Bills, as a franchise, love to draft corners with the first pick. H. Jones (drafted as a cb), T. Smith, Burress, Winfield and Clements are examples. Note that 3 of the last 4 played out their options and got the big bucks from another team and that Clements has 1 year left to be a ufa.

This is why I think that in all probability, Clements will be gone and the Bills will draft a corner first.

The above in no way makes me correct. Again, jmo and speculation. I have no "exact" knowledge of what will occur and am just having fun.

  2. Imho of course.

Throughout this decade and the nineties, the Bills have shown to be a bit more prone to drafting by position than best player available with their top pick. If Alaska Darin reads this he is sure to disagree. Again, this is just my opinion.

With a pair of solid guards, some depth, a RT who cannot go anywhere due to his contract, and a versatile player in Teague, I think that the odds of TD selecting an offensive lineman with the first pick are slim; Shelton or not.

This is not to try to convince anybody that the Bills OL will be exceptionally good. I just think that CB will be the way TD will go with the first pick.

To me, it is quite simple. Of our 2 starting corners, one is a ufa in a year, and they both return kicks, further exposing themselves to injury. The Bills are just too thin at CB, and I am strongly thinking that this will be addressed as soon as we pick.

What COULD change this would be if T. Law was to come to Buffalo for a small, but incentive laden contract, a possibility which I do not dismiss.

    We shall see.

  3. so, badol, do you think it's a better idea to simply draft a left tackle in the second round with the hope of him becoming a solid starter by, say, week 6? if there is such a guy, i'd do it. donohoe, for all of his flaws, has been pretty solid at getting LT's. I'm admittedly a bigger jennings fan than most, but i think everyone has to admit he was a damn good pick for a late 3rd rounder. there's also john jackson, one of the better 6th round LT's of the past 15 years. he's one of the few guys who could shut bruce down.

The thing is, Jennings played RT for at least a full season.

I know that he is old, but did the titans decide to keep Hopkins? He was rumored to be a possible cap cut.

  4. you implied Travis is a piece of sh--

I am asserting that TH is a bad football player. As much as I have air hammered this claim, I make the case that you spent more time blasting Bledsoe.

So, how about we compare their won/loss records as Buffalo Bills starters? Next, let us take a peek at each of their career stats? Will Travis ever be in the top ten for total yards? No possible way. Agreed? Will he be in the NFL in 2 years? I doubt it big time. How about you?

Now, blast away at Drew, who is already gone. And dont let me stop you from extolling the virtues of Travis Henry, but get out of the way!

I would hate to see you knocked down from all the substantial trade offers that keep rolling in for his services.

  5. Limited bargaining rights? The only limit they have in terms of salary is to declare an impasse during every negotiation, go straight to BINDING ARBITRATION and win what they wanted anyway.

To say they have no rights is a F*^%ing joke. When was the last time they didn't get a raise, despite the economics of the agency they work for?

When was the last time they were forced to pay for their health coverage or even any significant portion?

When was the last time anything was taken awy for them for the betterment of the city, county, muni, region, whatever?

Never. But when they lose their jobs when it really hiots the fan, we're supposed to feel sorry for them after all the grabhandedness they have shown year in and year out.

Tough s&%* for them. Welcome to the real world.

I hate public unions in NY.

And I hate the Taylor Law too, which keeps them in power.

By the way. Any idea why many places our young people are moving too are doing much better? No unions, among other reasons. But no unions keep salaries under control (and not ripping the employees off either while not ripping off the taxpayers).

Example: We pay Buffalo and many area cops well into the 40s to start, and a GED is all that is required in most cases and no college degree, maybe some credits. Troopers start in the low 50s, same requirements.

Saw an ad in the Buffalo Snooze for cops near Richmond, Va. Around $30 to start, $32 with a bachelors. That's the way it should be. Not getting rich for driving around on your fat arse all day.

If you were more of a man, you would be able to even consider doing a job such as this.

Obviously, you are a squirrel of a man; a jealous squirrel to boot. Now, go run up a tree, you weak minded, weak in fact squirrel. Hurry up, a puppy is chasing you, you silly little twit! :P

  6. Des pops in every now and then. He's an honest and knowledgeable poster who has contributed much to the football wealth on this board. He also was the one who first brought to (my) (our) attention the exchange issues that made Dan Marino a running back killer, something old film always confirms. Not to mention that he was a betting man who kept his word; a true model for fans of other teams whose fine example of behavior in our forum is too often ignored by the trolls we've attracted in the past year.

Those were great days on TBD. Remember "Doc?" He correctly predicted that Donnally would flop at LG when the Dolphins signed him because he was a RG, and they put him on the left side.

The newcomers will never know how great the "old" TSW truly was. Dont get me wrong, I welcome them; but times have changed.

  7. Imo "Des" deserves a spot. Most of you probably dont remember him. He was/is a dolphin fan. He and AKC had brutal arguements but wound up having mutual respect as I recall. The guy (imo) truly knew football, and was as entertaining as hell.

Des was a major contributor to this great site. He made TBD a better place.
