1. I understand where you're coming from, but really, do you think he's just BS-ing? I don't. The Bills allowed him to do the leg work for a possible trade. I'm sure he and his agent have been hitting the street non-stop ever since. I also believe that with the press he's generating from his search, if any of the teams he claims have expressed interest, really haven't, we'd have heard a response.

Bob, here is what I think he is doing....just my opinion mind you.

You stated that the Bills gave HIM the right to seek a trade. In actuality this is true, but the task belongs to his agent.

I have represented many workers at the union level. Sometimes, I would have things worked out with supervisors before the actual grievance hearing. Then at the hearing, the employee, instead of shutting up and letting me do my job, would make an inflamatory statement and actually impede the process.

I think that Travis, not known for brains, should keep quiet and let his professional agent handle things. Makes sense, don't you think?

  2. I think that the fact Henry is under contract makes him far easier for the Bills to trade than Peerless as an FA.

The Bills were scheduled to recieve and were owed nothing for Peerless as an FA, but, we have Travis under contract for another year and TD has made the approriate noises about wanting to keep him here while also allowing him to do TDs work by aggressively shopping himself around/

TD is also far more tradeable than PP because a team had to trafe and sign for PP in order to make the deal work.  A team can trade for TH and work him out or even see how he plays for a few games if they wish and then sign him if he merits it.

PP amd TH are not a perfect analogy for each other at all.  The Bills have far more cards and a lot more leverage to trade Henry.  We had to create leverage by putting the transition tag on Price, but this would have been a risky maneuver for us except Blank had already publicly promised to the fans and to Vick he would do what was necessary to bring him in.  He thought that was going to simply be a big contract, but because of his big mouth it became a 1st round pick also.

    >>>>> We had to create leverage by putting the transition tag on Price<<<<<

The Bills lost their transition tag about 10 years ago. They no longer have one as per the players agreement.

They named Price the Franchise Player and removed the tag in order to trade him.

  3. It is on the front page of their internet edition.  The website is profootballweekly.com.

Not much new, other than another source stating that Jennings may want to return to Georgia.

    210439

Even the Georgia thing is quite old.

I am sorry, but that article looked like the writer read this board and gave a compilation of our thoughts, especially wrt Travis.

  4. Sunny, do you ever write a post that is less than 1,000 words?  :(

He mentioned that the Bills could of "had the best of both worlds."

Are we to take that to mean he could have co-existed with McGahee, but the team did or said something that ruined that? I take it to meant that as long as he was put back in as the starter right away yhe would have been happy.

    209893

Good point. This is what I am trying to get across. He wants a trade, right? Well TD gave his agent permission to seek one. Now Travis, (not known for his brains), would be well served to simply shut up and let his agent do his job.

  5. FFS, please answer this, on the premise that top 5 backs want top 5 money.....

Do you think he is doing his agent a service with his comments? If you were his agent, would you be happy that he declared himself to be a great player considering the salary issue, or would you rather that he kept quiet, and let you do the negotiating?

  6. I didn't even mean that as a direct shot at DB. Early in the season, Henry kept tripping, just as he hit the line of scrimmage. That cost us the Oakland game when he fell before the goal line.

What in Gods name was he tripping over ? The mush pouring out of his earholes ? Must have occured a dozen times.

    209837

I didn't even take it as any kind of slap to DB.

The thing is just that I just sat down, and you already have at least 3 great one-liners that made me lol. :(

  7. Who here thinks the Bills should trade Travis and next year's first round pick to the Fish for this year's second overall pick? I don't think the Bills have any needs big enough for a second overall pick. Who would we go after, or would we trade that for a second and late-first this year?

    209823

Maybe we should insist that they throw in Vernon Carey and Jason Taylor, no?

  8. I fail to see why you and others wouldget your panties all up in a wad because a player or a even a GM would make an obvously false claim of being the greatest thing since sliced bread when they are trying to get top trade value and a good contract.

Everyone with half a brain no regardless of Henry or anyone's claims that they are both a floor wax and a dessert topping that its not true.  I hope you don't get pissed when you hear drug company ads, the coffee companies claim that coffee perks you up and it calms you down or that you don't buy cigarette company claims.

Such negotiating tactics are commonplace and actually expected or demanded of today's athlete who if he doesn't feel supreme confidence in himself and his play he hits the hole with a fear of being hit.

I see the spurious claims by an athlete who is going to be negotiated for when it comes down to TD and someone talking rather than be the principle for an actual deal to be negotiated with over his trade value as exactly the thing we want him to be saying right now so that the Bills can get the maximum possible trade value.

This time I disagree with the premise of your post FFS.

Do you think that Travis is endearing himself to GMs by his idotic assertion that he is a "top 5 back?"

He is not. Top 5 backs probably earn in the range of 5 mil. or more per season. One of the ony selling points that Travis has is his inexpensive contract, BUT.....he only has a year left. I think that a GM would become skeptical about signing him with his limited skills if he wants LDT money, wouldn't you?

Sorry, imo, this was a dumb move by a not so smart person. His agent should tell him to shut the f%&k up.

  9. Hey, not that im a thin skinned whiner. I think PC is totally out of control. What annoys me more than than the statement itself is the double standard. If I broke out the "N" word I would be banned out of here pretty quickly.

    209161

Have you ever seen my posts on the PPP board? I am not a liberal whiner either.

That said, there was no cause for a racist remark. It is not that I am bothered by it....I just really do wonder what the poster was trying to prove with that racial slur. :)

Maybe that he is an "open minded white liberal." :w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t:

    I am gonna go with 1, 4 and 5.

Hopefully, we will be hearing some of that on Superbowl Sunday! :)

    Do you recognize my sig?

  11. I strongly disagree with your assesment of trade value, but that doesnt even matter in this case.  We cant trade Bledsoe at this point because the other 31 NFL teams realize that we'll just release him in a month if he doesnt take a pay-cut.  So why would they offer anything for him if he was going to get released anyways?  They'd have to be mighty dumb to give something up for a player they could have without parting with picks only a few weeks later.

If all things were equal, then perhaps Bledsoe would warrant a higher draft pick, but in this current situation that we are in, Bledsoe has NO trade value since we would release him anyways.

Henry on the other hand, regardless of what we Bills fans view as his faults (and I agree with you on Henry's problems), does have teams interested in him due to his previous 1300 yard seasons and toughness.  Therefore, he has the higher trade value.

This has nothing to do with personal opinion of Henry as a player, I'm just looking at the present situation the Bills are in and their options.

    208951

That's cool. I do however make the case that if TD does not get a draft pick to his liking, he will cut Travis. This would drive up his price and screw other GMs that try to call his bluff.

    TD is a tough guy.

  12. Yep, I sure do.  Travis Henry is still young and has a bunch of teams clamoring for him (Miami, Arizona, Oakland are the ones that were named).  They want to get him and when all is said and done it will net us an extra 3rd rounder.

Drew Bledsoe would get absolutely nothing in terms of a trade since TD already made it clear that he was going to release him after 3/1 if he doesnt accept a pay cut.

Tell me how we could get more from Bledsoe at this point if every team who wants him (the confused souls that they are) could just WAIT and get him after March?

Travis Henry has more trade value, its very simple.

    208938

You are failing to take value into consideration. How many millions of dollars did the skins pay Brunell, who is shot, and far worse than Bledsoe? Hasselback will surely sign for 7 or 8 mil per season, as will Brees.

Henry is a mentally challenged person who can run, but not very fast. There is not one other thing he does well at his position.

Drew is near the top at every phase of career stats. It is harder to get a qb than a banged up, dumb, slow rb who cannot block nor catch. Why are you having a problem accepting this?

  13. :(  :(  :(

A 2nd or 3rd for Bledsoe, thats rich.  AT BEST, the only thing we could get for Drew would be a 5th rounder, and even thats stretching it.  Drew will get released if he doesnt take his pay cut, I dont see us shipping him off to another team in a trade.  Unless the Cards, for some ungodly reason, want him to be a part of that Travis trade.  Which wont happen.

    208928

So you think that Travis Henry is worth more than Drew Bledsoe in terms of a trade?

Yeah, that makes a ton of sense.
