From what I've been told by UPS drivers, you are correct.
One has to wonder, though. Are they paid well and receive good benefits because of their union, or because of the competition. You have FedEx and UPS, then suddenly the postal service is in the mix with their great pay and bennies (my brother carries in Long Island), and then you have DHL making a push.
To get good people you must take good care of them...regardless of what the union says.
I'm not saying the union doesn't have a hand in your example. I just think competition lends a stronger hand.
Well, the USPS and DHL are also unionized. This is a growing field due to internet shopping, but I am thinking that if the union was at a state of war with UPS, things would not be running as smooth for either party.

Other than running (although in 04 he was better known for falling untouched and sliding), the skills of TH were proven to be bad, not good.
I dont know just how much you expect for TH, but it appears to be evident at this point that there is not a whole lot of interest around the league.
I wish they would dump him and move on.

Right on...
People always seem to be disappointed with the person that TD drafts. Reed (which he had no clue woudn't step up... but knowing the Peerless situation, he made the right call), McGahee (definitely the right call) and Losman (again, the right call).
Everyone seemed to be calling for his head when he made those picks. But he knew what he was doing, and was proven correct later.
I would not be surprised if he took a CB or the best player on the board (regardless of the position). In a weird way, I would actually be surprised to see him take an offensive Lineman. Look for that NOT to happen
Seriously, how on earth was TD proven correct about trading for Losman?
Were you just kidding?

>>>>For example, DB was sacked on average LESS than Brady was, once we benched TH. Yet you still read everyone saying, "He gets sacked every other play." False.<<<<
Ah.....the fact that oh so few want to read, hear nor acknowledge.

Sure there's such a thing as a good working relationship. But there's also tons of evidence of corruption, waste, and stupid union rules that make it difficult for companies to compete.
For example, the last place I worked, I couldn't move a small table & 3 chairs 10 feet to have a meeting without calling facilities to do it. Why? The union that the facilities maintenance crews belonged to forced my former place of buisness to include that in their renewed contract. They were afriad that they would become useless. So my former place of work not only had to deal with the inefficiency that this caused, they had to set up a system by which I had to request stupid services like this, and wait for 3 days for the stuff to be moved. Yeah, that makes quite a bit of sense.
That's the kind of stupidity that helps me form my opinion. Of course, some unions are good. Teacher's unions for example.
And please don't use the NFL as an example of what that majority of unions are like. These players are MILLIONAIRES, not your average joe.
I am a smart guy. Who thinks the days of corruption and ineficciency should be behind us.
OK, you want to disregard NFL players? Fair enough.
UPS is an example of a highly profitable company at which employees are working extremely hard, and they are compensated quite well. The reason? A good working relationship with the Teamsters Union.
Sure, they had their share of problems, but the company and the workers are doing quite well, right?

Wow, congrats to all! That is what I call a woman!
Please extend our thanks and best wishes to her.

Fina was a decent LT for a while.
He was also paid like a superstar, and was flat out awful for his last few seasons on the Bills. When he was cut, he was signed for a very short time with Arizona and promptly released, yet it cost the Bills somewhere between 5-7 mil. to get rid of him as I recall.

All it means is, if it's something like what round a player was drafted or how many yards a player ran for in a given game if I'm not 100% sure I look it up to be sure I'm accurately stating something that happened. If I vaguely remember something but can't verify it I'll say something like "he fumbled in the double digits" as I did recently referring to Henry since his fumble stats weren't readily available.
Since I have access to about 20 Bills media guides & draft orders publications since the merger, I prefer not to wing it when discussing absolute events.
The post's origin really had nothing to do with ego. It was the result of viewing a lot of inaccurate statements over the offseason on a variety of boards that I visit & in the media. Unfortunately, Pac_Man's post was the one I specifically cited, although I didn't see his post as any different than other's which had me building up to my post. (Sorry for singling you out Pac_Man) The frustrations of an offseason of people saying things a lot worse than Pac_Man got me to the point that I had to say something. The members of the national media are among the biggest offenders & I'd had enough.
There was nothing I feel that was egotistical about demanding an attempt at accuracy when someone makes a statement. Most things stated on this board are opinions, and anyone is entitled to think & post whatever they want (Although if someone says we're going to trade the team to SF to draft a QB they should expect a lot of negative feedback). But when you are stating historical facts, you should be more careful. If you're stating an absolute but can't verify it just say "I think" before the statement & that tells others you recall to the best of your abilities but didn't verify it.
Btw Harv, what round WAS Lloyd drafted in?
I place him in the top 10 LBs of all time before he got hurt.

it will be:
lt- teague (lord help us)
lg- anderson
c- tucker
rg- villarreal
rt- williams
bannan will be a backup. if the bills get shelton he will be the starting lt, but they don't seem to want him very bad. hopefully the bills will draft a left tackle, because i can't see us ever going anywhere with teague as a starter- at any position.
For what it's worth, I agree with your prediction of the staring OL, but I dont think that Bannan will make the team.

I posted things about this in a different thread that I started.
Assuming for the sake of this conversation that our draft order does not change, I too believe that TD will go "need," however I believe that his choice will be to draft a corner. Sadly, imo, there is little choice. The Bills are paper thin at this position, both starters return kicks (increasing the odds of injury), and Clements will be a ufa in 06.
Again, I truly hope to see Ty Law sign an incentive laden contract. This could change things, but as for now, I just dont see the Bills going in any other direction with their first pick.
PS: Yes, Clements was a "need" pick, but remember, the Bills passed on Hutchinson when they traded with TB, and the OL was even worse than it is now, so there was also a certain amount of BPA going on with that pick/trade.

>>>>>The good news (and actually real world testimony of how good an athlete MW really is), he did finally get his act together and become recognized by his peers as one of the best performing linemen on the Bills (he was awarded a gameball for one performance).<<<<<
That was the Arizona game, and he was fully dominant.
Btw, very good post, as usual.

Will do Cindy. I will let you know when the schedule comes out which game we will attend.
Please bring Mary, and wish her our best.

I think that your post represents the problem. Assuming you are right and the Bills do think that he is a "pretty good player," this, imo, is FAR less than enough production from perhaps the highest paid RT in the NFL history (please note the word "perhaps").
Imo, he played well in the Arizona game and most games after that, except the Pitt debacle, in which CV was hurt. This, after almost 2 1/2 years of average to sub-par play. Sorry, I expect more from a 9.17 million dollare per season #4 pick, and I believe that you join me in this.
Despite all this, IF Big Mike has a break out season this year, I would be satisfied. Admittedly, I expect pro bowl greatness for a player such as MW. What frustrates me is that I am thinking him to be capable of such greatness if he cared just a little bit more.
In any event, to the original poster, imo it would cost far too much cap space to cut him (accelerated signing bonus) before 6/1/06.
-
You know, I will give him all of those compliments, but "toughness of a linebacker?"
The guy was hospitalized when he brushed up against a defensive back. Does anyone proof read these articles?
-
True, but this was before Paul Allen, Dan Snyder, Blank, etc. owned football teams. Ralph is a starving Ethiopian compared to these guys, and it would be all but impossible to compete with them.
Are you anti-salary cap in the NFL?
-
Point taken, but teams with poor corners will never go the distance. They never have.
New rules notwithstanding, there will always be a need for corners who can cover, make plays and pick off passes.
I would be the happiest poster here if TD selects a blocker with our first pick, but I make the case that imo, it is just not going to happen.

todd, I am guessing that part of the reason you are such an avid footballfan is because of the strong labor/managenent relationship between NFL management and the NFLPA. You know why?
Because the Bills have a comparatively "poor" owner, play in a cold, small market, yet we are still able to compete.
You seem unable to understand the fact that there IS such a thing as a good working relationship between unions and management. Your view is hard for me to understand because I have always thought you to be a smart guy.

Stressing "abstinence" in sex education is just setting up kids for sexual neurosis later on down the line. To deny a person's "sexuality" (particularly a womens) is weird and isn't much different from living in a one of those Islamic states we purportedly went to war for.
But that in a nutshell is the weird dichotomy of the right these days; do we spread our "sexual" culture and "freedom" abroad for fun a nd profit......
....or.....
...do we wipe out any vestiges of Janet Jackson's saggy boob at home.
Why can't the Right have both?
Hey, welcome back.
Are you going to start all over about how much you love freedom, and then come out (like a dictatorial liberal) FOR the smoking ban in bars, or will you ever NOT parrot the stance of every leftist yuppie?

Expectations for Shelton......
in The Stadium Wall Archives
Posted
This posting is of course based on the premise that a deal will be completed.
Badolbilz called Shelton " a below average LT with a chronic ankle injury."
AKC questioned whether or not Shelton could even survive our final cuts.
R.Rich was a bit more kind, and said that he is very strong and very slow (I am paraphrasing).
I can remember VERY few trades involving LTs. Teams, in general, just wont give them up. Leon Gray was part of the Eric Dickerson trade. Roaf was traded to KC, but there were some serious problems as I vaguely recall. I know there were probably other trades, but none that I remember.
The above, and the opinions of our resident "experts" lead me to expect little from LS. I cannot see why it would take a quality LT AND A PICK for a team to acquire Travis Henry given the scarcity and value of even a somewhat above average LT (Jennings and his contract for example).
In summary, if this trade happens, my hopes are sky high, but my expectations for Shelton are not.
