Bills9999, can you play NT ? Seriously, I am 5-11 and most I have weighed is ~ 204 lb. I started working out when I was 196 and dropped to my now stable weight of 186 lb but have lost 4 inches off my waist and added muscle. So it is a good 186 as opposed to the flabby 196. Could lose more around the gut but boy those inches go slow....

Perhaps I did not state my point properly. What I meant is that if there is a choice between a 'project QB' or a can't miss pick, I vote for the can't miss pick. Again, I realize that there really isn't a 'can't miss' when it comes to a draft but every year there is a consensus about some players who are far more NFL ready and unlikely to fail. Sam Bradford comes to mind. In this case, I would rather the Bills make a safe pick than one who is risky. I am not talking about money at all.

Good points. Besides the money (which is ofcoruse a big deal), the state of our roster is such that we cannot afford to have a another failure of such a high pick. Mike Williams set us back a lot and we need to err on the side of a safe pick rather than a high risk-potential high reward. Take a solid player who will make the team better for years to come starting with this season.

I have heard this said so many times but the fact is that even a second or third round draft pick should be contributing by his second year. He would be called a bust even if he was picked in those latter rounds. I think folks like Carrington and Moats have done more in their rookie year than Maybin has in his two years.

Harm ? (1) being a distraction to the D strategy (2) Cutting him maybe saves some money (3) Does not add any value Bottom line is that if in this coming offseason and TC if Maybin does not show that he has made significant progress, he should not be on the opening day roster.

When the overall success rate of drafting is so poor, you have to wonder if selecting Williams was strategy or just the law of averages catching up.

Agree with what you said. One qualifier, I think we suck not because we have consistently blown the #1 pick but also because we haven't done too well in the latter rounds as well. To state the obvious, a draft is more than one round. While a #1 needs to be a true impact player, drafting solidly in the latter rounds is critical as well. If we got more of the Kyle Williams and less of the Chris Ellis' of the world, we would have been in very good shape despite blowing the #1 picks.
