Cuomo Sex Harrassment Accusations
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to LikeIGiveADarn's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Both stories received widespread and breathless coverage at times, and of course the msm seemed to miss most of the key elements of Steele for 4 years despite highly placed and anonymous sources. Today’s Albany Times Union covered the Govs denial of sexual harassment——said gov a potential candidate for Attorney General—on page 2, down near the bottom next to the ad for a 3/36 lease on a dodge caravan. I’d suggest it would be a vast improvement to even see a commitment of 5%of the coverage that Steele received. Or, they can continue to send the message to victims that it’s best to sit the &$@& down and shut the $&@& up. -
I shall forever refer to you as Dr. OldManFan. Personally, in an academic/clinical setting I would refer to you as Dr. OMF. I agree you earned it, I certainly acknowledge the commitment it took to achieve your goal, but it really just boils down to courtesy and the psychology behind it all. To be completely honest, if you're engaging me in a clinical setting, the Dr. moniker is important to me. I don't want "Rick, the guy from Elmira" treating or advising me, I want good old Dr. OMF giving me the downlow. Taking it one step further, in that setting, I'd personally hope you would refer to me by my first name, mostly because that simple familiarity would be reassuring to me. Others probably would prefer to be addressed as Mr/Mrs/Ms. Outside of that environment, I guess I would go with in-kind responses. I'm assuming in social settings you introduce yourself to other adults as OldManFan, not "Hi. I'm Dr. Fan."? If you called me by my first name, I'd call you Old. If you referred to me as Mr, the only danger would be me forgetting that you've earned your doctoral degree and calling you Mr as well. If I'm understanding you correctly, that would not bother you and you would likely not tell me that the appropriate designation is Dr. OMF? Can we at least agree that the Maestro episode on Seinfeld was among their finest work?

Cuomo Sex Harrassment Accusations

The standard shifts depending on who the alleged abuser is. That’s the problem, or at least one of many problems with this issue. I just wanted to point out that “she’s a liar” may not tell the whole story. She could be, of course, it could be 100% political. -

All true—but sometimes it’s just a person in a position of power victimizing another he has control over. In reading the text you referenced, you seem to see it as an indication she tried to quit and the powers that be refused to let her. I think you’re blinded by your prior experience in the system, where you—a presumably non-victimized stakeholder correctly indicate you had the option to continue employment or not. I have no experience at the state, but I read her comments differently. She mentions therapy as a critical part of her text. She uses the expression “before it stuck”. I’d think when you have a good job and are victimized, the question of terminating employment isn’t just a matter of the emotional trauma, there are hard and fast realities like mortgage payments, car payments, income and securing other employment that must be considered. In fact, one of the reasons predators get away from with this sort of thing is because the victim is locked in to the employment relationship for any number of reasons. That’s classic predatory behavior and the reason many victims continue to push forward in spite of the seemingly logical decision to “just leave”. In 2020, this woman should not be marginalized. If there’s nothing to fear, Cuomo should answer questions and be thoroughly investigated and not hide behind his spokespeople. The media should refrain from running stories painting her as a bad employee based on anonymous sources. Neither will happen, because people like Cuomo are protected. I understand your perspective but in some respects, you’re part of the problem. -

I hate when I make that type of mistake. You’re right of course, I attributed the quote to the wrong date, place and time. I apologize for that. It wasn’t about the annihilation of our country, it was about widespread poverty, unemployment and hunger. I skimmed the speech this morning. It’s eloquent and beautiful, but ultimately quite misleading. Parts of it were quite deceptive...talking about shared suffering and the like. Still, it was uplifting and recognized as a great speech. I think I’ll listen to it later, and thanks for taking the time to correct me. Or, not. You’ve revealed yourself to be a low character individual. Your thoughts are irrelevant. -

Yes, it’s possible for me to criticize Trump. As for the tired old whataboutism (how boring it must be to sit and wait for the cliche buzzer to sound), oldmanfan talked about presidential leadership in definite terms. Someone else made a Pearl Harbor reference, and I was reminded of FDR’s powerful speech was obviously a blatant lie. On the Trump rallies, to this day I’m hard pressed to understand why folks in your camp mention the rallies by steering clear of blaming people that took to the street by the tens of thousands this summer. It’s fairly clear the people who attended (I did not) felt a certain kinship with the protestors, yet one group is excoriated while the other is not. -

I’m not being obtuse, I’m just chopping it up on a message board trying to make sense of a shitton of information and misinformation from a variety of different sources. I’ve been clear on the things that bother me, and personally I think your Trump hatred blinds you to rational discussion on this whole calamity. For you, it’s all Trump all the time. To me, if everything you believe is true, Fuacci et al $#@&ed us all over. He’s an expert across the board, again, why the f wasn’t he out screaming to keep the masses assembled in the streets? The guy was impotent at best, and doing his little song and dance about “mischief” when he was caught violating social distance protocol and mask discipline at the baseball game did not help. -

I could have sworn the science dudes all said millions were going to die in our country alone. It seems to me you guys just keep moving the goalposts. Prediction: this virus will begin to slow down roughy May 1. It won’t be because of the onset of spring and the normal slowdown or seasonal flu and the like. Btw—Trump explained his comments from the Woodward sessions. Thank God some of the numbnuts weren’t around when FDR gave his famous “we have nothing to fear but fear itself” speech. Fundamentally and demonstrably a lie. One of the other fears (beside fear of fear) was that the forces of the Imperial Japanese Army would be incinerating tens of millions and enslaving those that were left. -

The list of powerful men in NY politics abusing their power is quite lengthy. Spitzer Schneidman Bruno Silver Percoco Skelos Your rush to tarnish the reputation of a person who may very well be a victim without giving this story time to develop is one of the reasons predators thrive and victims are reluctant to come forward. #sad -

Omg I wasn’t talking about the IRS. That’s widely acknowledged as the Peace Corp of govt work. Just kidding, I have friends at NYS tax department. I don’t understand insider programs like this, but whatever. About 10 years ago, I was looking to move to a new home. I’d have owned the house one side of the county line, and property on the other side in the county we were moving from. I wanted to keep my children in the school district we were in, and would have been paying taxes in after the purchase. I was advised that was perfectly doable if I paid $11,000 per child per year. I knew a few teachers who lived out of district but were allowed to have their children attend school in the district freeing charge. One of the perks of being an employee, but paying tax in the district didn’t qualify for the same Bennie. -
It’s kind of ironic that a lady with thIs level of book learnin’ is likely exactly the type of sad case needing to be saved from the angry lending monsters terrorizing PhDoctors by her husband Mr. Joe Biden.

My goodness that’s statement could be applied to Cuomo and his comments about members of the public 5 days out of 7. Does this strike you at all as problematic? The woman makes a complaint about a toxic work enviornment, suddenly confidential HR information is “leaked” to the NYT from Cuomo insiders? You can say this about virtually any employer/employee relationship in the country. Does that allow the governor carte blanche to oversee a toxic workplace? If not, why is it a problem when it happens at Bank of America but no big deal when it’s one of the most powerful Caucasian men in the country? -

Some women are disposable, some men forgivable. Biden also explained that the women upset with him weren’t on his wave length. He feels badly they thought he should not have pawed them. -

As have you, and the feeling is mutual. And honestly, this shows the type of insider bull#### that should be stopped. A federal employee, generally speaking, makes good money, with excellent security and is entitled to a benefit rich employer plan. Give a foreign operative a nice benefit like this? I’m all for it. Give it to Jim Smith in the the govt accounting office in West Topeka? Shouldn’t happen. -

I’m powerless brother, relatively speaking. I’m sensible enough to recognize and support the need for a well-defined and compassionate safety net, proud enough to believe that my investment in my children was important to their development, and apparently foolish enough to not play the hand the right way given the buyout soon to happen. For all the talk about a pro-Biden vote was really an ‘anti-Trump’ rallying crying, we know with certainty that millions of Biden voters stand to benefit from the Sopranos-esque protection racket about to play out. And, likely, the Harris plan to follow when Biden taps out in 12-24 months. In fact, it’s highly probable that was the most important factor in a Biden presidency. Everyone has a price. The best I can do is when called by one of the SUNY schools for a parental handout in support of the next crop of students to tell them to call the White House after Jan 20. -

Part of the challenge in the country is that we are moving away from the concept of doing “the right thing”. There was a time when the question “Have you no shame?” meant something, but that’s sort of in the rear view mirror at this point. As many supporters of a Biden Buyout point out—there’s easy money available for bailouts—why shouldn’t they get paid? Now, we speak about supposedly highly educated people, often graduates of extraordinarily expensive schools, righteously indignant that they have been victimized by the choices they made. It always makes me chuckle when I hear the spin about how smart Obama/Biden voters are, yet given the chance they line up at the educational homeless shelter quickly and orderly for the handout offered. The interesting part is how they pitch what amounts to a government handout funded by others as a “stimulus”. They may not be very good at math, and might have a tendency toward making really poor and reckless financial decisions, but they are marketing wizards on the rebrand. You also have to give it to Biden. He knew the thought of absolving folks of debt is a powerful aphrodisiac. Millions likely voted for him just because of it. -

Whatever. You asked a dopey loaded question, I nicely explained the issue l had with it, and ultimately provided an answer that made sense to me. I did not make an accusation, I gently nudged you because you had previously indicated you would answer mine. I don’t really care that you didn’t like my answer, but an answer was provided. I appreciate your effort with respect to Russia and Ukraine. I’m more convinced than ever about the path that needs to be taken. Enjoy your night. -

Maybe, but dropping an apostrophe on a word used every day ain't gonna get you into Mensa neither pal. Now that we're past the insults, I answered the question honestly, it's no more or less a "cop-out" than any other response. While I understand your position, I'm extremely comfortable with mine. One last thing Johnny Bravo, no one says 'cop-out' anymore. -

Insubordinate...and churlish. 2016 was DJT. 2000 was George the W. Ironically, if you asked this question on this very date in 2000, I would have answered the same way I did today. Not sure you would have had ants in your pants. Usual evidentiary time period runs election day until concession/the end of court challenges. See the year 2000. Btw--this is awkward but....you are perilously close to being labelled a person of low moral character and proven as such. I think you said this previously: I'll answer your framed question if you answer mine. If I welch on that, you can call me a person of low moral character and I will be proven so. I asked first. As you have probably guessed, I'm a simple guy. Write legislation that forces a change in terms. Allow the schools to keep 39%, requiring the other 61% to reduce loans. It's a reverse tax plan. We need to get away from the concept of sacred cows.
