sigh. personnel is not a great fit for the screen game. guards are slow and receivers are small. But we should run it anyways so people can complain about how we run too many ineffective screens. Want to beat aggressive blitzes? Have John brown win a slant against Baltimore. Yes, Allen generally has to be better in that respect, but it’s not all on him or daboll. Sometimes it’s personnel.
-
I’m with you there. John brown throwing the ball twice isn’t all that conservative to me. Throwing the ball 18 times in a row (or whatever it was) to start the season against the Jets also is not conservative to me. Maybe the NE game is a fair criticism - too many runs in first down - but the entirety of the season otherwise has been pretty modern and progressive.
-
It’s a fair point that Allen’s development is due in significant part, and perhaps most significant part, to Allen’s own hard work and diligence. I don’t see how daboll’s work isn’t part of the equation, though. Mayfield and Darnold seem like hard workers, too, and they haven’t progressed at Josh’s pace.
-
I like the O’Shea idea. Brady would be interesting, too. Maybe DeFillipo gets some consideration if Marrone’s staff is blown out in Jax. McD would have intel on him through Eagles connections, and he allegedly had a big part in wentz’s growth. Not saying I want defillipo, but it’s not the worst idea in the world if we need a new OC.

care to clarify what the “BS” part of job was at NE? I didn’t realize that the most accomplished coach on NFL history has BS jobs on staff. and yes, daboll was at bama for just a year. And in that time he started to modernize the offense and had the guts to push for the benching of championship QB b/c he (correctly) recognized that the backup was better.
-
Bystander at bama? Come on. Nothing to do in NE? He had a 20/20 job. Go back and watch Bama’s win over Georgia in the national championship game. Check our who took control of the huddle before Tua hit the game winner. It was daboll. And he got to run an offense for nick Saban in part on belichick’s recommendation. I just can’t believe belichick would mislead a friend like Saban in a hire like that.
-
I agree on the discipline point with Rivera, and they probably could use somebody who won’t need to learn on the job as a HC. (Another plug for McDaniels, perhaps.) Not sure about the other two, however. One could argue that both greatly underachieved with the talent at their disposal - even with McCarthy’s Super Bowl.

Sorry but I don’t see it the same way. In week 2 last year josh was completely overmatched against the Chargers. It is night and day since then. He also was arguably the rawest member of his draft class, and he arguably is the best product of that group today. it’s easy to rely on the “he knows great coaches” trope. Fact remains that belichick hired him multiple times and Saban brought him in to run his offense. So perhaps it’s a bit excessive to refer to him as a “nobody.”
-
Perhaps. But these jobs don’t grow on trees. And sometimes it’s best to strike when the iron is hot. Ask Brian Schottenheimer. It may also be that Dorsey is gone in Cleveland. Lots of moving parts there. For what it’s worth, I think Roman makes a lot of sense for them. He’s scored a lot of points with mediocre quarterbacks, and hiring him would weaken a division rival. McDaniels might work for them, too. But they could find Daboll attractive for his work with Allen, who arguably has come the furthest of the 2018 QB class.
-
This job might appeal to him. And he might get it. Close enough to home (OP) where the family can commute back and forth easily. I believe that he has kids/step kids late in high school and Cleveland might be the second most desirable situation for him, next to Buffalo. The interview request also tells us that there are those in the NFL who are impressed with his work with Allen. As well they should be. Josh has come leaps and bounds from where he was last year. It would be a big loss for Daboll to go.

Bills' mishandling of the CB position

I get that. It’s a sign of weakness. But it’s also not their call if it’s a serious injury. And watching it live, it looked bad. -

Not sure what the TV broadcast showed with respect to the Wallace injury. But it looked bad. Non-contact, and he wouldn’t put weight on it as he left the field. I couldn’t believe they didn’t get the cart for him. I hope it’s not an Achilles, but that was my thought watching it live in the stadium yesterday. -

Didn’t Caldwell go to high school with daboll? Don’t be shocked if daboll goes there should Caldwell survive. LAC is another potential daboll connection. Telesco is a frannies guy, too, if memory serves. -
M. Lombardi - 2 Sources say more than a HC change in CLE

Do we see Peyton surface here as director of all things football in Cleveland? I think he has a headlamp connection from Tennessee.
