Newsflash: The Bills roster is extremely thin

It's all good man. Not offended, just perhaps seeing more of value than you do in some of the posts getting attacked as "negative". -

If an internet message board is not a high priority, why do you let yourself get bothered by people posting negative messages about the Bills? Just ignore them and move on, don't continually post content-free insults to people who are actually commenting about the games. -

I hope someday you'll look back at your responses in this thread and be embarrassed. -
To be honest that response to me just shows that either by natural inclination or through indoctrination Edwards is the quintessential Jauron "leader". For his sake, I hope it's just that the environment he's in now is the only one he's known since going pro, and he can still be rehabilitated, but that's not the statement of a leader. Hell, I'd say it would be better if he'd called out TO for engaging in a war of words with someone who's just trying to court controversy. At least that would be expressing an opinion.

Losman, might have been better suited
MRW replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nah, if you want to see the path JP was on just look at JaMarcus Russell in Oakland. For a long time I felt like JP didn't get a fair shot here, but in his play last year he was still displaying all the same deficiencies in his game that plagued him all along. Edwards IMO is in the process of playing himself into a backup role, but Losman has some serious work to do if he's to rescue his career. -
The players have proved they have the talent...

That's no way to play the game, particularly against a team with an offense that can get going at any time, like NO's. By avoiding the immediate risk, you in fact put your chances of winning the game in much greater jeopardy. I would say there's rarely any justification for punting on 4th and 5 or less at the opponents' 40, and even less so when the opponent is known for their offense. But since you apparently share Jauron's risk-aversion, there's not much sense in continuing to debate this, except to say that based on the way Jauron consistently approaches these situations, there is very little mystery about why his record vs. winning teams is so putrid. -

Sorry, disagree completely. Going up against a team like the Saints you have to take some chances. The philosophy you're espousing here is quintessential Jauron-ball; the end result is you play so scared of your deficiencies that you never make a play to win the game. Smart coaching is knowing when to take risks, and Jauron had two golden chances and whiffed. -
Thanks for posting here, good luck the rest of the way. I think the Bills taking away the passing game for the most part was a blessing for this Saints team, they proved they can win with a tough D and a tenacious running attack.

In my opinion that 4th and 1 call is distracting attention away from another 4th down call that was even worse, 4th and 4 at the Saints' 40 with the game tied. After electing to punt the ball away, did the Bills even sniff the Saints' side of the field again? Gutless. I think that attitude permeates the entire team. Make the safe play, it's better to lose bit by bit than all at once, etc. What I don't get is Jauron will go for it on 4th down on his own side of the field one week, then faced with a team the next week where it's imperative to keep the ball and momentum, he punts away. It's like he's consulting a magic 8-ball. -
Bing is a great new way to google things.

How is their run blocking? Would you say that the Saints running game so far has been a product of teams being scared of the passing attack + big leads, or has it been mixed in and effective? The Bills have done pretty well at stopping the run so far, but I'm not sure how big a difference that will make.

Nothing wrong with that stance, but to me it would imply that you should temper your criticism as well.

Lynch may find himself on the bench when he returns...
MRW replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So... he won't already be eager to play after his 3-game suspension? Why don't they just sit him until the bye, I bet he'll be really motivated then. -
This is the most exaggerated statement I've ever read about anything anywhere.
-
I'm not gonna flame you for that. Criticism like that, or comments like I saw from R. Rich about Evans' subpar route-running, are actual observations about the football game and thus have nothing in common with the OP of this thread.

MRW replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's exactly my point. I think there are very few running backs that teams would trade an impact defensive player for, and Lynch is not one of them. And trading Lynch for JAG leaves us worse off once Jackson wears down due to the number of carries he'd be getting. -

If you can quietly put out feelers, then sure, explore it. I don't imagine a real impact passrusher is going to be had in exchange for a good runner with run-ins with the commish on his record, though. My guess is the best you'd do is someone in the Kelsay/Denney category, and does that do anything at all for the team? -
Instead of making this reply you really should've just closed the thread. This is embarrassing.

Yep, I never even saw the ball move at all once Watson had it. It was really an excellent catch, as much as I hate to admit it.
-
The ball did hit the ground, but that doesn't make it incomplete ever since the rules were changed after the Tampa Bay/St. Louis NFC Championship game about 10 years ago. He kept complete control of the ball all the way to the ground and didn't trap it, so it was a catch.

Ellison in the middle, Nic Harris at OLB
MRW replied to kbuckley9091's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Unless the Bills had taken a linebacker in place of Byrd, I have a hard time seeing this as anything other than them simply not being able to improve an area of weakness. None of the FA linebackers impressed me, well, at all, and only one linebacker was taken in the second after Byrd, so I'm not sure if that would've been a good use of the pick or not. Certainly I can't complain about the picks of Maybin, Wood, Levitre, or Nelson. -
I think that pressure up the middle is far more disruptive to an offense than an edge-rush (although less likely to result in spectacular sacks/fumbles/INTs forced). That's not to discount the importance of a good LT, and I really wish the team had been less penny-wise and pound-foolish in dealing with Peters once they switched him to LT, but it's absolutely impossible to have any consistent offensive production when your center and guards are manhandled the way the Bills have been in recent years.

Captain Caveman is absolutely right when he asks who will come here after the coaching staff is fired one game into the season. Look, I was appalled when the team gave Jauron that extension, but non-joke NFL franchises don't just can everyone after the first game. What coach in his right mind would want to work for an organization that does that? Now, if the team limps into mid-season at 1-7, 2-6, 0-8, then fine. There's ample precedent for firing an underachieving coach after a few games are under their belt. But what you're advocating is a recipe for a never-ending treadmill of hiring losers who are desperate enough to work for a dysfunctional organization.

Trent often had to step up in the pocket - but the difference from last year was that there was actually a pocket to step up into. These guys aren't going to stonewall the rushers on every play but improved play in the middle was clearly the primary goal for this offseason, and I think they achieved that.
