  1. Fitzpatrick can try to put it on himself, but it depends on everything even including special teams. Let's not forget about a certain Chargers team from a few years back that had the #1 offense AND #1 defense in the NFL and finished 8-8 due to crappy special teams play (worst in the NFL). The offense does depend heavily on Fitzpatrick, but wins and losses are well beyond that.
  2. If we're drafting 32nd next year, then I really don't care what position we draft. It will be for depth only at that point with the potential to be a starter down the road. If we're drafting in the top-10 again, we're going to know exactly what we need based on how the season goes. Although he was the least sacked QB last season for a full year starter, he also threw the most interceptions. It's my perception that the offensive line is not as good as we think they are. It might be time for a new left tackle.
  3. Honestly, I would think that would be the case with any team in the AFC East that has to face them twice. The Patriots may still be able to beat us with offense and Brady does get rid of the ball quick, but it's not inconceivable to me to sweep the Dolphins and Jets and possibly split with New England. If they do that, they're in the playoffs. You can mark my words on that today!
  4. To me, the concerns are a moot point. If he's not ready to start the season, they could just put him on the PUP list until he recovers. As many have said, until Gilmore and Williams show us anything in real game situations, McGee is still the defacto best cornerback on this team. He could very well be needed if anyone gets hurt for any measurable amount of time.
  5. Now add that Mario is bigger, faster and stronger than Von Miller and he should have a field day against Hunter. There's no doubt in my mind that they're going to have to chip Mario with a TE for much of the day.
  6. He doesn't just run designated routes and wait for the ball to be delivered to him. He reads opposing CB's and has a knack for keeping himself between the defender and the ball. He's the only guy I've seen own Revis and on multiple occasions. People can say what they want about Stevie, but he's the only receiver in Bills history to have back to back 1,000 yards receiving. That's crazy considering what we had in the 90's (Reed, Beebe, Lofton).
  7. I was thinking about the 99' team myself. Still it does have that feel. Could be a special year to be a Bills fan.
  8. I can't wait for this season to start. When I look at this front-4, I always come back to the same question. Someone tell me which team has the 3 guys that can stop Mario, Kyle, and Marcel all in one on one matchups. When I look at how this front 4 is built right now, it reminds me an awful lot of what the Lions put together in Detroit, but even better. I hope Sanchez is crapping his pants in week 1 when he sees Mario bearing down on him.
  9. This thread is a head scratcher to say the least. Kuechly is drafted 9th, one spot AHEAD of where the Bills were picking. The Bills didn't even have the option of picking him with the 10th overall pick. If a guy like Dre Kirkpatrick was looking like an all pro in camp and the suggestion was that we should have taken him, I would get that. Honestly, even if Kuechly were still there at 10th, I would still rather have Gilmore.
  10. Merriman just gives me the feeling that once he was off the juice that he could get hurt doing pretty much anything. I wouldn't be surprised if they said he sprained his own ankle by tying his shoes with too much vigor. At the end of the day, he's not the key to this defense anyway.
  11. I could see this team winning 10-11 games this season. As I went through the schedule, They have a lot of favorable matchups on the road where they traditionally haven't been that good. Here's how I see it playing out: 1 - @Jets. The Jets always play the Bills tough in their house. LOSS. 2 - Chiefs. Home opener should be a madhouse. WIN. 3 - @Browns. Weak opponent on the road. WIN. 4 - Patriots. I hate the Patriots more than you do. LOSS. 5 - @49ers. Tough road matchup. LOSS. 6 - @Cardinals. Kolb never was the answer. WIN 7 - Titans. Chris Johnson rebounds after sitting out part of last year. LOSS 8 - BYE week. They could easily be the 3-4 I've outlined above or possibly better. 9 - @Texans. Revenge game for Mario. WIN 10 - @Patriots. LOSS 11 - Dolphins. That team will be horrendous. WIN. 12 - @Colts. Luck will not have a magical first season. WIN. 13 - Jaguars. Welcome to Buffalo. WIN. 14 - Rams. Another team in rebuilding mode. WIN. 15 - Seahawks. Favorable home games here. WIN. 16 - @Dolphins. They're still a bad team. WIN. 17 - Jets. Whether they win the first one on the road or this one, I think they split with the Jets. WIN. This season is going to come down to their health. They do have the schedule though to win 10-11 games and possibly the AFC East outright. If you look at the Patriots schedule, it certainly isn't as favorable in terms of the teams they have to face.
  12. That's not the argument that was being made nor what I challenged. BTW, DeSean Jackson is listed on the Phily roster at 5-10 and 175 pounds. He's a little bigger than you represent him to be. Regardless, comparing Graham to Jackson at this point is quite a bit of a stretch. Being hopeful that he'll turn out to be that good is fine and I share a lot of hope that the team as a whole will be a much better product than the last decade.
  13. How does Graham "have the size" to line up outside? He's listed at 5-11 and 188 pounds on the depth chart. He's a threat because of his speed and not his size. Hagan and Easley are both 6-2 and in the 210 pound range so they make sense. Nelson is our biggest receiver at 6-5. If he can stay healthy, I think he's the legitimate #2 on the outside with Graham playing in the slot. Regardless of all that, I agree with you in terms of the Bills having a lot of potential at the position. The real key is their health. As a prime example, Nelson left the first full practice in pads on Saturday with an injury. They say it's minor, but it still takes him off the field for a day.
  14. Given the history of Phillips, Mularkey, Williams, Jauron, it would definitely suggest that this is a make or break year for Gailey. Even with the Phillips teams making the playoffs the first two years in a row, he was gone after failing to do so in year 3. Let's face some facts here too. These guys were all starters in Gailey's first year and still are today: R.Fitzpatrick, F.Jackson, S.Johnson, A.Levitre, E.Wood, K.Williams, J.Byrd, R.Lindell, B.Moorman These guys were starters in Gailey's first year and will still see time on the field: C.Kelsay, L.McKelvin Since 2010, there are 12 new starters on offense and defense. That's basically about 50% turnover of the starters. Of those 12, 2 came by way of free agency this year and 2 came through the draft. Of the remaining roster, the turnover rate is even higher. Probably closer to 80% of the roster is new since 2010. The over/under for wins right now for this team is 7. Over -110, Under -120. Odds makers don't favor them at this point to make the playoffs, and the betting lines haven't really moved that much since the Williams and Anderson acquisitions. Bills fans are of course optimistic because I think they feel that for once in a long time, the team not only did the right thing in the draft, but also made the biggest splash of anyone in free agency. I guess the conclusion that I come to here is that there is going to be some pressure to win games this year. However, I don't know if it's the playoffs or bust for Gailey. I think that if the team wins 8 or 9 games that he'll have another year, or at least another part of a year to make it happen. On Fitzpatrick, I'm not so sure. If the defense brings it like we think they're going to and gives Fitzpatrick a cushion to play (i.e. he's not playing from behind all the time), he can't have the turnovers he had last season. If he does, he'll be riding the pine by mid season.
  15. Not just because of that. Beyond his first year with the Titans, he wasn't good. He was bad last year with Phily when he played. I just don't believe he's smart enough to fully grasp the offense.
  16. If the posts about Vince are correct (and I have no reason to not believe them), can anyone say that they're shocked? Let's face facts here about our team. We already know that the offense that's being run isn't simple. It is one of the more complex offenses in terms of terminology and systems that exists in the NFL. Vince is a mental midget with the mental capacity of an uncooked walnut. I would say cooked, but he is actually an NFL quarterback, so I have to give him a little credit. He's not quite dead yet. I wouldn't be surprised if he never picks up the offense and simply falls off the roster before the season starts. While he's athletic and can throw and run the ball, if you're starting your decision making with bad reads, you're likely going to be making bad throws. Of all the good stuff the Bills did this offseason, the Young move made me scratch my head. I still don't get it, other than perhaps to scare Fitzpatrick into working harder with Lee.
  17. I'm with you on Rogers as well. He's behind only McGee on the depth chart right now (besides Williams and Gilmore as starters of course). I thought the Bills picked Brooks for his special teams play and were going to be using him as a gunner. Brooks does have blazing speed.
  18. The Bills have 6 young TE's on the roster right now. I don't see any reason to bring in an out of shape 32 year old with significant attitude issues. This flies directly in the face of what Nix said he wants to do. He wants a team of players with good work ethics that can build chemistry. Shockey is an "I want the ball first" type of guy. I would take a huge pass.
  19. They waived Addai because he failed a physical. At the end of the day, the Patriots still have 4 RB's on their roster. They're going to run that same RBBC crap that they did last season. Regardless, that's hasn't been a strength of their team and hasn't been since they had Corey Dillon. As usual, their success depends on keeping Brady upright.
  20. While I understand that Barnett and Morrison are penciled in to play OLB in the 4-3, I like the footage I've seen of Bradham on Youtube. He seems to be a pretty big hitter and doesn't do bad in coverage of TE's either. I saw a characterization that sounded like it made sense to me. Someone called him a "giant safety". I could care less about Hannah Buehler. I'm ready for football!
  21. You just proved my point for me. For all the talk about Kelsay being a "run stopper", he doesn't have any more tackles than the guys you mentioned. The difference is that those guys have the tackles, plus are experts at rushing the passer. Take out sacks and their solo tackles are roughly equal. Those guys you mentioned had a combined 36.5 sacks with a low of 9. Kelsay hasn't even sniffed that in his career. When you take out the sack leaders and take out the guys with a lot of tackles but no sacks, what are you left with? Answer: An average DE.
  22. I would take a pass on any of the drama queens out there. The TO experiment was tried and didn't work. I can't see Plaxico being any different. Nix has already said that they won't add anyone that's on the downside of their respective careers. Whether we individually like it or not, it's probably not going to happen unless Nix changes his philosophy. I'm excited to see what Graham does and believe that a combination of David Nelson and Scott Chandler provide the big targets that Fitzpatrick will need in the red zone.
  23. Classic idiotic argument about "hating". Read the thread. Who said they "hated" Kelsay? Every comment I've made is about whether Kelsay is worth the roughly $5.5 million price tag he's costing the team per year. This means one of two things. Your reading comprehension is absolutely awful or you just decided to read one post and jump to conclusions from that. Either way, I'll stick by my original point. Besides a blind opinion, provide proof definitive that Kelsay was a good "run stopper". On that point, I have just as much evidence as you do (an opinion) but one that's backed by the fact that the Bills defensive line has been the worst in the NFL over the last 5 years combined. Kelsay is part of that formula whether you like it or not. You can think that somehow offsets his pedestrian sack numbers, but I don't believe it for a second. No one ever said he wasn't a high effort guy. No one ever said he was a good team mate. I'm not sure where that comes from, but it's simply not grounded in any fact. As for him "crossing the field to make tackles", that's a joke. Let's look how he stacks up against even just his own team mates. 2011 - 13th in tackles with 25. Barnett lead the team with 78. 2010 - 8th in tackles with 46. Poz led the team with 103. 2009 - 8th in tackles with 41. Poz led with 87. 2008 - 10th with 33. Poz led with 87. 2007 - 8th with 34. Crowell and DiGiorgio tied for lead with 86 each If you then went to solo tackles for the season, you would see that he barely averages over 1 per game. He's not the one generally even making first contact. He's cleanup after someone else starts the hit. Is Kelsay a good guy? Sure. Is he good for the locker room? Also sure. He's respected by his peers and works hard. To suggest he's even the 2nd best DE on this team now is laughable. It will be sad for us if he is.
