Well apparently, 32 NFL teams agree with me. If that were the case, he would have been drafted. Obviously it wasn't. Further to that point, his "physical ability" has translated to ZERO advantage on the field. This also corroborates my point. If he were a Calvin Johnson, he would be catching balls despite being out of position. If he were a Mike Wallace, he would be outrunning coverage. He's done neither of those things, so your point is just factually wrong.

Da'Rick was too stupid to learn the play book and was basically playing like he thought his athleticism could make up the difference. The problem is that guys like him grow on trees. Making it in the NFL either requires raw skills that MOST other NFL players don't have (Mario Williams), or the intelligence to make the most out of what you're bringing to the table in the absence of that athletic advantage (Wes Welker). Da'Rick is neither.

This statement is just patently false. It's so easy to forget that those 90's Superbowl teams never won more than a single game in the preseason and looked like crap. Preseason games have about as much value of predicting what will happen during the season as it does the ESPN guys evaluating the success of a team's draft or predicting win totals for the season. It's a complete waste of time.

I'm not sure I really care one way or another on this signing. Whether it's Kolb, Leinert, Holcomb, Bledsoe, Flutie, Johnson, or any other average journeyman that this team signs, I'm just glad that this time they're not making them the starter. It's clear to me that E.J. will start if he's healthy. If not, I have no problem with putting Tuel on the field. To a degree, the Kolb concussion may be a blessing in disguise. While I don't dislike him as an individual, I sort of rooted for him to perform poorly (which he did before his injury). Leinert won't be any better (probably will be worse), so it clears up our QB situation quite a bit. No controversy going into the season.

Once again a judgment over reality. Keep deluding yourself. -

The facts don't support your position at all. Police officers have better detective skills than you're offering here. Promo is spot on too about smell. There's a huge difference between the smell of the smoke and the smell of the plant. Your lack of experience on the subject is too obvious. -

Not obviously. You're clearly using your "jump to conclusions" Matt. Had he been smoking, he would have been cuffed and taken to jail. He wasn't. At this point it comes down to the penalty to be issued by the team and by the NFL. -

He hasn't been charged thus far with driving under the influence. Simply possession. -
It is hard not to root for a guy like that!

If we're really going to re-visit the 2010 draft and talk in particular about Spiller, let's not forget the other supposed "needs" that the team had at the time. While LT was a need, what was available then? Anthony Davis and Bryan Bulaga. Both essentially graded out at RT at the time and low and behold that's where they're playing right now. Sean Weatherspoon was the best LB available and his career thus far has been injury plagued. If you want to talk QB, we could have drafted Tim Tebow or Jimmy Clausen. Earl Thomas has turned out to be a solid safety, but that wasn't a position of need at the time really. Spiller was the defacto #1 RB talent available in the draft that year and the only guy really worthy at the position of being picked in the 1st round. Best was a reach by Detroit late in the round. IMO a successful draft is any one that you get decently productive players out of. If Spiller becomes the monster that many think he can become, then anything we get out of the other guys is gravy. Can we call it a success if the Bills end up with perhaps the best player to come out of the draft in the last 4 years? I would, particularly when everyone ELSE continues to say that it's the wrong pick. Kind of like E.J. Manuel...

Does Goodwin make you rethink the McKelvin deal?
Luxy312 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When all is said and done, he just signed a brand new 4-year deal for $17 million, of which $6 million is guaranteed. Health notwithstanding, he's clearly going to be the starter opposite Gilmore. Personally, I just don't get it. I give him kudos as a PR/KR guy, but that's not why they're paying him. -
This in a nutshell. You simply don't push a guy yard that is this much of your defense. It makes ZERO sense unless you're just an idiot fan.

This in a nutshell. How many of Fitz's 2-minute drills resulted in interceptions or fumbles lost? I would bet that the number is staggering. I didn't hate Fitzpatrick by any stretch, but he clearly wasn't the answer that we thought he might become. Just another journeyman Kelly Holcomb type that got another chance.

I See No Reason To Temper Enthusiasm
Luxy312 replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Given the repetitive failures of this team over the last decade, it's hard not to be excited about change. I don't take as much from the victory and the success on the field as I do the approach taken by coaches. Notwithstanding the final score, the coaches pushed the starting offense through 2 quarters. They're getting them ready to play now and seeing what guys can do. My enthusiasm/optimism is that we're going to know exactly what we're going to see on the field once the regular season starts. Should EJ struggle against all of the first team defenses that he faces, I will have less optimism to start the season. If this first game was simply that in being first NFL game jitters, and we see him calmer and more poised next time out there, I will frankly be ecstatic. As far as the negative nancy trolls are concerned, it's easier to ignore them. Certainly not worth the effort of quoting them to have their comments re-stated for the board. -
Which players impressed you most yesterday?
Luxy312 replied to RCOHEN13's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
EJ clearly impressed me the most. I expected many more rookie mistakes out there than I saw. Sure he had a rough first couple of possessions, but that's too be expected. To see him recover from that on the road in his first NFL game and lead a 95-yard drive under a two minute drill was spectacular. I saw what I expected from Spiller and Mario as our top two players on the offense and defense. Alonzo looked outstanding on defense as well, but he's not a signal caller by any stretch. -
He's not coming to pre-season games and certainly not coming to trading camp. There's ZERO incentive for him to do that. With that said, I do not see him leaving roughly $4 million on the table by sitting out through Week 10. That makes no sense at all. The Bills front office should play hardball here.

So What Would a Successful Season Be For EJ?
Luxy312 replied to DefenseWins's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For me, you can't measure individual success by wins and losses. There's 54 other guys on the roster and a plethora of coaching staff that get credit or blame for that. For EJ, I would rate him successful if he has less turnovers than touchdowns. It's been proven many times that the single greatest predictor of a team's success is their turnover ratio. One of the biggest problems with Fitzpatrick these last years was turnovers. When you add his fumbles to his interceptions, he's clearly not all that good. I expect EJ to make mistakes in his rookie year. I just hope that for every mistake/turnover, that we see production offensively. -
I liked the first video. Music of the second one is just plain awful. I hope he succeeds. It would be nice to see this team turn around.
-
I agree with you 100% with just a little something to add. I hope that this team figures our who "the guys" are going to be as soon as possible. The less of the starting line-up in question will allow the team some time to build chemistry. Waiting until a week before the season opener isn't going to work.

This news coming a day after Marrone said he's not happy with how the battle at LG is shaping up between Brown and Lagursky and that the team may add another guard to the mix. At the end of the day, this should be good news for the fans. The new guy in charge is not simply going with what they have and actively out there looking to upgrade talent wherever he can. If this guy is worked out as a guard and fills that need, then so be it.
-
I'm not sure how there's 4 pages to this thread. Why do people care that he's sitting out training camp due to injury? Why would people care that ANYONE would sit out training camp if they're recovering from injury? This is not the regular season. This is not the time to "tough it out" to show your leadership. While some players have played through an injury, plenty have done so and made the situation worse. Mario is a veteran who played through injury for much of last season. He had the quietest 10.5 sack season I've ever seen. I'm often baffled at how some have such short term memories.

It's total time in camp that I'm talking about. You can only have so much scheduled time and the Bills have decided to schedule more time later versus earlier.
-
I don't think they're allowed due to the new CBA. Restricts the amount of time that players can be in camp.
