T-Mobile - Can we do better on the nickname?

Tie Iron -
I would take McCoy all day. Bills haven't had as complete of a running back on their team as him since Thurman Thomas. Freddy is on the wrong side of the years age wise. Someone pointed out to me too that although he has 30 touchdowns with the Bills during his tenure, that he put the ball on the turf 27 times. I wouldn't have guessed it, but that's not a good ratio.

Put down the Madden game and come back to reality. There's not a chance that any of the three get traded for anything based on their work in the preseason. EJ and TT both looked solid yesterday. TT was more methodical moving the ball down the field, but EJ blew me away with his deep throws. It's what I've been wanting to see since they drafted him. Why would you even try to trade either of them? Every team in the NFL needs two guys that can run their system. Cassel is not one of those guys and he couldn't be traded for a bag of cashews. Peanuts maybe.

The defense is troublesome. Backers getting beat by receivers regularly. -

Biggest problem with Matt Cassel is the number of 3rd downs that we see on an average drive. It's all dink and dunk, so when he misses a throw or gets one batted down, it's a problem because it's third and long and he can't make the throw. -

EJ looked pretty good. I would have liked to see what EJ would have done first drive absent Freddy's incredible run. Cassel looks terrible. No athleticism. Nothing but short dump off passes. Wonder if they give him the next series or go right to Taylor. -

Deonte Thompson, WR gem who could shine in 2015
Luxy312 replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So predict his receptions and we can revisit this thread after the Indianapolis game. My bet is either none or one. I don't think he has the hands to be anything special. -

Not sure how he shines when there's at least 7 receiving options that will be a priority over him on game day. Watkins, Clay, Woods, McCoy, Harvin, Hogan, Goodwin. Could be even more than that. Unless there's major injuries, I don't think he'll even tally 20 catches for the entire season. -
ESPN: Is Tannehill better than Luck?
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
PFF lost a lot of credibility to me with that article. Luck NOT in the top ten list? Are you kidding me? While they're at it, they might as well also tell me that JJ Watt is an average DE or that Marcel Dareus doesn't grade out as a top 5 DT in the league. At the end of the day, they're doing this for only one reason. Clicks. Advertising revenue doesn't get generated if people aren't reading the articles. The more absurd the concept, the more clicks they get. -
how high do you draft Shady? Watkins? Bills D?
Luxy312 replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't forget about Woodhead. Until last seasons injury, he was as involved as ever in the running game, with 100 carries and 70 receptions. Given his productivity and his role on the team in the past, I don't believe that Gordon will be anything more than a 2 down back, barring another injury. They've also already labeled Brandon Oliver their "power back". Expect him to be a goal line thief as well. -

McCoy I would take early in the second 2nd at the earliest. Watkins would be a late 5th rounder and the Bills DST a 6th. That assumes standard scoring though. I would consider earlier on McCoy and Watkins in a PPR league. -
3 weeks ago, I could have been convinced that Rex was running a smokescreen and that there was no chance that EJ would be our regular season starter. Now I'm not so sure that this truly isn't a 3 way race for who's going to be our starter. For all of the writers and radio guys that like to say that EJ has been terrible, they really aren't looking at what the players have done with the time they've had. Who has the highest QB rating of the three? EJ is at 117.2 compared to Cassel at 90.1 and Taylor at 84.0. Who's finished long drives with touchdown passes? EJ has 2 versus the other guys having none. When all is said and done, EJ is getting a chance. The worst case scenario here is that he sputters out of the gates. With certainty in my mind, he would be relegated to #3. What happens though if he leads the team down the field against the #1 defense of the Steelers and puts it in the end zone? Is that what we finally want to see from our starter? Does that shoe him in to be the guy for the Indy game, or does Rex go with the Matt Cassel as a safety? I think that assuming that EJ isn't in the race is a fallacy. Rex isn't going to waste valuable time letting a guy start a preseason game just to show the fans that it's a fair fight, particularly if EJ was actually terrible. I think it's actually a fair fight!

In another thread, someone suggested that if the Broncos were going to move on with Brock next year that we could take Peyton for a run at the Superbowl. My response was akin to your longer OP. I don't want that. I don't want a one year "chance" at a Superbowl, followed by more rebuilding years. I want a dynasty team that we can expect to be competing for the Superbowl for years. I'm fine with the Cassel addition as a safety net. I'm fine with adding Tyrod Taylor as someone with a different dimension than what we had. What I'm not fine with is thinking that this team can simply trade for or otherwise pick up a franchise signal caller. Early draft picks need to play or simply be cut and be replaced with other early draft picks. Dan Snyder tried for years to essentially "buy" the playoffs for the Redskins and it just didn't work out. A couple of WC losses and division losses. It's folly to think a team can be built that way.

More myopic statistics. You realize that passer rating has him in the top 34% of the league right. That's 32% above average. Still a myopic statistic, but better than "slightly above average" if you're measuring it. Slightly above Eli Manning and slightly below Matt Ryan. Guess those guys are pretty much hovering right around average as well. YPG, more irrelevance. Cam Newton had 20 less YPG passing and I don't think there's anyone out there that isn't a complete idiot that would say that Cam Newton is a below average QB either. Russell Wilson had 27 less YPG...guess he's absolute garbage. That's what he looks like based on your metrics. He's right there with Case Keenum and Colt McCoy. By your measures here, Tony Romo must be considered one of the best because he had the best QB rating last year at 114.4 followed by Ben Roethlisberger at 103.8. Drew Brees was the most prolific at 309.5, again followed by Ben Roethlisberger at 309.0. So all 3 of these guys must be better than Andrew Luck, Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning, right? Your type of argument is a snooze fest and just not based anywhere in reality.

Who should return punts if Thigpen is cut/with Leo out?
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why not Marcus Easley? He's been a good kick returner in the past and if he's not going to have a role on the offense, they could get some use out of him on KR's too. -
You can pick myopic statistics, but it doesn't tell the whole story. The fact is that only about half of the quarterbacks in the NFL account for more touchdowns than turnovers (including fumbles). Turnovers statistically are MILES ahead of any other measure to predict a teams success. If you're -3 as a team, you have only about a 3% chance of winning a game. -2 and it's about 10%. You can like it or not, but Tannehill is and above average quarterback based on what he's doing.

Crime Rates: NFL Players vs. General Population
Luxy312 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's been plenty of studies that have proven that there's a statistically significant relationship between socioeconomic status (occupation, income, education) and crime rates. Simply looking at the population alone simply ignores the fact that not everyone has a higher education and not everyone is making at least the NFL minimum of $435,000 per year. Kelly is funny though on the fall guys comment. Nice CC reference! -
I love how he says he "respects Tom Brady's toughness". Really? I don't know if there's another quarterback in the NFL that lobbies to the refs for roughing the passer after every hit he takes than him. The idiot should shut up and play football. In terms of Tannehill, he's got 51 TD's to 29 INT's in the last two seasons. Right now, he looks like he has the potential to be exactly like a young Drew Brees. As a Bills fan, I hope not, but the numbers tell a different story than him being "mediocre".

Enough incoherence/whining from WGR re: EJ
Luxy312 replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OC is spot on. I stopped listening to WGR more than a year ago for many of the reasons stated. They parrot the same things over and over again and essentially try to convince the listener that they're right, in lieu of doing any real critical analysis. It's like a terrible joke that just isn't funny being told again and again, each time expecting the listener to laugh. The "even EJ" commentary is very much indicative of the bias we've heard from them over the last year. It's so bad that I don't listen anymore. Two Bills Drive is my source for real information. Now posters aren't always unbiased either, but at least they're honest about it.
