Karlos key to a playoff run? UPDATE: Suspended for 2017-18
Luxy312 replied to #34fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Karlos never met pork chops and potatoes that he didn't like. That's just not going to cut it in the NFL. To boot, he's already earned two suspensions for substance abuse (weed). The kid is a train wreck. While I approve of the train whistle, I would say no to a train wreck. -
No sure fire Franchise QB's in 18' draft class

I read comments from the new HC that we already have our guy. Draft class of QB's in 2018 irrelevant. -
Bills have Air Force WR Jalen Robinette at rookie camp
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's a contract like any other. When I considered going the ROTC route back in the day, the contract was very specific as to my responsibilities and my rights. The military didn't OWN me or have the right to arbitrarily change the contract. Now, I don't know if Robinette signed off on changes a year ago, but it would have to be disclosed at a minimum. The contract that he initially signed had the provision allowing him to defer if he were signed by a professional sports team. That's it in a nutshell. -

Exactly. That's what I think will happen really. How would this be any different than the DOD saying that instead of 2 years that now you have to serve 4? I can't fathom how they could get away with changing the rules at the end. Robinette has to have some right of refusal, I would think. -
NFL.com - Beane Preaches Open Competition at QB
Luxy312 replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This in a nutshell. At the end of the day, the Bills are not going to carry 4 QB's on their roster. T.J. Yates (God help us), was signed to be the veteran that can step in if Tyrod gets hurt. The Bills did not have luxury draft picks in this draft. That tells me that Peterman was picked with a purpose. Worst case scenario is that he looks like a rookie and he's the #3. Best case scenario is that he looks like he can actually play and pushes Taylor in camp. That leaves Jones as the odd man out. I know he was taken as a project last season. He was a Rex/Doug project none the less. That makes him expendable IMO. As far as any idea of an "open competition", I seriously doubt that happens. Taylor comes pretty cheaply for the productivity that he's shown so far. If we see more of the status quo, he'll be an easy cap hit next season at only about $8.6m. They would save $9.4m by letting him go after 2017. I don't think there's a lot of dust that needs to settle honestly. Pretty cut and dry. -

This is a bait and switch situation. When Robinette started his education, he did agree to a 2-year service following graduation. However, at that time, the rules in place allowed him to defer if he got the opportunity to go pro. Just last year, the Department of Defense changed the rules to prohibit that deferral. This is not a situation where he's trying to eliminate his service, but simply delay it. I think he'll win this appeal based on the merits of his case. I don't know how the DOD gets away with arbitrary rules changes, that immediately bind these young men into a potential situation that they didn't intend to sign up for. There is zero doubt in my mind that 2 years of service immediately would end his potential NFL career. -
I predict he will fare better with his hand in the dirt playing as a DE than he did moving around the field for Rex last year as a 3-4 OLB. At the end of the day, there were only six defensive ends that had 10+ sacks in the NFL last season. All six of those guys played in traditional 4-3 defenses. With the protection that he should have in the middle with Dareus and Williams, he should be an 8 sack guy, which would be a good first full season. If he's anywhere around 8 or above, that makes him a good draft pick IMO.

Their case was settled outside of litigation. They're not coming back. The Bills need them like a goat needs a passport. They add nothing.

Fixed that for you.

People love to cite the obvious guys that turned out, but completely ignore the ones that do not. How great would we be right now if, in the last 3 years, the Bills drafted Paxton Lynch, Christian Hackenburg, Garret Grayson, and Johnny Manziel instead of Shaq Lawson, Reggie Ragland, Ronald Darby, and Sammy Watkins? They reached for E.J. Manuel when clearly his grade didn't have him that high. Same thing with the quarterback class this year. It was weak. It was filled with a bunch of guys that ALL had obvious flaws. I live in Chicago, and I haven't found a single person here yet that gets trading up for Trubisky. Tell me as we sit here today if the Jets, with hindsight, would rather have Deion Jones than Christian Hackenburg, or whether they're OK holding onto Geno Smith in lieu of Jamie Collins. Whaley has been a "reacher" his whole tenure. I'm glad that ended with this draft honestly.

Pats fans laughing at Bills GM firing

They'll always be the P*tri*ts to me. It's just too bad that their team name couldn't fit more asterisks. -

Bills leaning toward not picking Sammys 5th year option.
Luxy312 replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
His option has a guarantee in the event of injury, which I believe is a factor in the Bills not exercising it. The guy has been hurt for 3 years running. While he didn't miss time in his first year, he did have some issues on the field. -
How do you view McDermott's role in the GM situation?
Luxy312 replied to BILLiever55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I doubt we will ever know exactly how everything transpired, that resulted in Whaley and the entire scouting staff being fired immediately after the draft. My personal take is that Whaley has been a bit of a "reacher". Perhaps he wanted to reach in this draft and was overruled. There's no team in the NFL that just drafts "Best Player Available". It's always more complicated than that and often MASSIVELY so. Thinking on what could have happened, maybe McDermott, Whaley and the scouting staff all worked on their boards and Whaley tried to go off script during the draft. The Bills have the luxury of knowing who they could have ended up with versus what actually happened. I can't think of any other reason that Whaley wouldn't have been fired well before the draft. As far as who becomes the new GM, I'm not sure it matters. McDermott got his first "win" already. I expect he'll pretty much be in charge going forward. -
Bills leaning toward not picking Sammys 5th year option.
Luxy312 replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not picking up Watkins 5th year option is smart. It's nice to sit here as fans and assume that somehow, his injuries of two years ago are somehow magically behind him. Of particular note is that he's STILL dealing with them. The guy has played 16, 13 and then just 8 games last year. While I'm reminded of a similar start to his career in Julio Jones that played 13, 15 and 5 games in his first three seasons, I'm also reminded that Matt Ryan is throwing for 4,500+ yards a season versus Tyrod's 3,000. While it's possible for Tyrod to be more productive, I tend to be realistic in terms of his ceiling as a passer, which also puts a ceiling on what Watkins will be able to achieve. Putting it all together, why would any team that's marginal in terms of their passing offense, pay big bucks to their supposed #1 WR that hasn't even proven that he can stay on the field? At the end of the day, if he knocks it out of the park this season, he's getting tagged or he's getting a new deal. If he's on and off the field again with whatever injury bug that decides to plague him this year, and Zay Jones steps up, he's as good as gone and should be. -
Pats fans laughing at Bills GM firing
Luxy312 replied to CanadianFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They're laughing at GM firing while I'm pointing and laughing at ZERO Superbowl wins without being cheaters. Hmmmm.....advantage me. When I'm telling the third generation of my family of the great teams and QB's in the NFL, they won't be in the conversation. -
Pats sign Gillislee to offer sheet
Luxy312 replied to johnwalter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As someone said in a movie "the garbage will do". It really doesn't matter who the other guys besides Shady are that are getting carries. The Bills don't run RBBC like other teams in the NFL do. -
Pats sign Gillislee to offer sheet
Luxy312 replied to johnwalter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why? They have 4 other running backs on the roster not named McCoy, two of which were just signed this year. I don't keep a guy just for the sake of keeping him and Gillislee was good at times, but terrible with the turnovers at times as well. He was never going to be a feature back in Buffalo, so I don't see the point. The teams cap space is limited and to spend it just to prevent the cheatriots from getting him is stupid, IMO. -

I like Gillislee, but there's no way you pay a backup running back $4m. -
It wasn't that long ago that he was making the case in court that he was "just hanging out with his friends". This morning they find him just hanging out in his cell. Coincidence?

Here's a draft curveball for you to flame
Luxy312 replied to Madd Charlie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No disrespect to the O.P., but I cannot fathom a single scenario where the Bills are drafting RB with the #10 overall pick. Just looking at positions that most would agree in a consensus are of need in additional talent, here's my take: CB - Injury or no injury, Marshon Lattimore is a top-10 pick. There may be other backs in the conversation of early first round, but I'll leave it at him for now. S - Jamal Adams sits on many boards as the most draft ready of anyone at any position. I know Malik Hooker is coming off of injury, but the Ed Reed comparisons keep him in the top-10 discussion. As with CB, there may be others belonging here, but will leave them out. LB - The Bills appear to be OK at this position, but not great. They will not pass on a Reuben Foster for a RB, period. DE - The Bills are set on this front as well, but once again, will the Bills pass on consensus #1 Myles Garrett? What about almost consensus #2 Solomon Thomas? Nope. TE - OJ Howard may be the best pass catcher in the draft, regardless of his position. Same thing as the others above. DT - I will be shocked if Jonathan Allen makes it out of the top-5 picks unless at least two teams shock us and take a QB. QB - I know the Bills re-signed Taylor. I know they signed Yates and still have Jones, but if their #1 QB is on the board, WHOEVER it is, they're taking QB before they take RB. OT - Pick your player here, but no one would disagree that the weakest point of the offensive line was RT. It just wasn't that good. The lunacy here is the notion that this team would attempt to draft for the future with their first pick. They were the #1 rushing offense in the NFL last year with McCoy, Gillislee, and Williams being the ball carriers. Fournette addresses none of the glaring needs or weaknesses of the team. Even if he's there at #10, I take a pass. -
The article hit massive levels of failure when it said "Unless he's averaging multiple sacks per game". Just plain stupid. Bruce Smith played 279 games in his career and had 200 sacks. If Garrett gets 75% of that, he'll be in the HOF. Just another case of a bad reporter writing an article, instead of a journalist.

Which QB do you want the Bills to draft?
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would take Kelly and wouldn't have any issue going even a couple rounds earlier than the 7th. At the end of the day, you can say "draft a QB every year until you get a franchise guy", but teams just don't do this. This is not a year for great talent at QB. Analysts have said this to us over and over again. So what I come back to is the developmental guy that has the physical tools to potentially be what we're looking for. But for Kelly's injury and his off the field stuff, he was a much higher round pick. Just maybe, the Bills can develop him for a couple years behind Taylor and then have the guy they're looking for. If not, nothing lost. The Bills have too many holes to fill than to continue to reach for the EJ Manuels of the world. Just my opinion.
