There should be a national dialogue in getting back to work
plenzmd1 replied to Magox's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Funny, had the CBS news on this morning in the background, they showed only a portion of this clip that it sound like FULL lockdown was being continued in the UK..despicable I would fly today..the HEPA filtration systems in planes are awesome..and i was on a flight to Vegas with wife and MIL about 3 days after airports opened up again 9/11. Had something like a 8:30 AM flight, got in line for security at 5:30 AM..still barely made it through on time. BTW, you may remember way back in 04, a specific BA flight between Dulles and Heathrow, and vice versa, kept being cancelled due to security concerns. I needed to get back and forth to London, and i stayed on those figuring what flight(s) would ever be safer? But, on the fiorst on 223 to IAD, hit a massive airpocket over the coast of Ireland, the whole of the plane, including me, figured it ws a bomb and we were goners. Never forget it We are schedule for a euro trip with friends in August, figuring that will not happen, so prolly going the beach way as well. I thought he was a toad before this, but havegrownn to like him in the last 8 weeks. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

Just had this done. Rite Aid parking lot in Colonial Heights VA. Had an 11:30 slot, arrived right at 11:30, two lanes for testing, 1 car in front of me in each lane. Confirmed my ID,then wait for tent to open up. The had a six foot folding table( perfect for slamming, but i digress), they stood at one end, sent a plastic tray with a swab and vial in it to car window. Test consisted of opening the swab the swab, inserting in left nostril about halfway up, two full rotations in nostril..then hold there for 15 seconds. Repeat for the right nostril. Seal in vial, put it back in tray, end of test. Was there about 5 minutes, self administered, and was not what i feared which was that thing being shoved halfway down your nasal cavity. Again , I have no inclination i have the virus, but if it takes more testing to get our lives back, i will do it. -

I saw some reporting yesterday that the tome lines reported Der Speigal do not add up, will attempt to find that again and post. Buty do not take this report as gospel. All i can say is i think we all have "confirmation bias" when it comes to media. I have always accepted most media outlets have a left of center lean, that is not a new phenenomum, been that way for over 150 years in this country. We tend to watch/listen to folks who have simiilar leans to our views, and that is always how it will be. But, now that I have an an "opinion" on this virus that is opposite of the left ( for the most part) , it is really frustrating to see only side of the so called facts being presented. Everytime i watch the news, no matter what network..they breathlessly report new cases without an mention on percentage of tests. They never report on states that seeing decreases, only areas seeing increases. They never report on the demographics of the people that are dying. I could go on and on, but on this story it is very easy to see the slant , ney propaganda, the MSM is pushing to promate clicks and inspire fear. I have found it especially frustrating that this conversation is not being had. The concept of the "greater good" has been completely abandoned in this country. One key piece for the nursing deaths, which i believe is still over 50% of deaths..Average stay in a nursing home is 5 1/2 months, in a state run facility, bout 3 months. Stays do not end with someone going home. Maybe i am just getting old too, and accept that death is part of life. That tacking on two months at end of life just doesn't negate all the negative damage being done to our society as a whole. Of course we do eberything we can to protect the most vulnerable that make up a very , very small minority, but not at the expense of putting the vast vast majority at risk of permanant damge -
prolly not...Allegiant schedule now does not allow for the cheap direct. Told my nephews the other day, outside of Denver, prolly just gonna try to make everyhome game. Denver I am hoping o turn into ski trip as well..head out Tuesday to the mountains, Denver Friday night, game on Saturday, fly home on Sunday. Bonus is there is a direct Richmond to Denver
-
We have officially decided , no matter what happens, not traveling to this game. Tickets may come down by 50%, ans still $350 to sit in upper deck corners.

I am not sure what a market capilist Libertarian is, but I am pretty sure I am prolly one. But why in the world would you want the bolded? My wife and I am worked our butts off our whole lives, lived conservatively, saved a ton, have relatively no debt outside of that we want like mortgages, paid off both of our student loans, are paying for my kids education., and have a pretty nice sum saved for reitrement...and you want to reward people who have done the opposite? Who lived the good life while we scrimped and saved?

well, that is not the reason..the reason is pure greed. The C suite and the board at public companies have the vast majority of their earnings tied to stock performance. So in order to maximize their LTIPs, they bought back shares, rising the price, hiking in their escalters , and guess what..paying lower taxes on those profits. Never underestimate the greed and hubris of these folks.

@daz28, i am still lost, sorry. BTW, i have been screaming from the rooftops the tax cuts were silly and beyond dumb, an exploding debt(per covid) in the "greatest economy" ever was insane...and the Trump economy was just an extension of the Obama economy. And yes, the overwhlming majority of the benefit of the cuts went to the well off..as few companies increased capital expeditures at a significant rate, instead opting for buybacks.

NUmbers from places like meat packing could provide a great clue. If they indicate high, high levels of asymptomatic positives...that helps form a risk/reward analysis. Make sure to extend the testing to households, as so many workers in these plants live in multigenerational and often household members have other high risk factors. These are thge types of testing that needs to be done, and done immediately. Take high risk environment/population, and start to make decisions based on actual numbers, not models, not fear, but with empirical evidence
-
i think looking at the meat industry is perfect to help form our response, I agree. Lets test everyone in the plants, and crank the numbers to establish how many are positive and asympatomatic, how many hospitalizations, deaths etc. I mean, can there be a worse envirnoment for transmitting than in those plants? Maybe those numbers have already been established, i am not aware of them. And i do not agree that the response has no consequenes....liquor sales for the months of March and April in VA..equivalnt every week to the week of Thanksgiving...that means people are slamming booze at record numbers ..look at the amount of vacinations young kids are getting now..way down..42% in April CDC estimates.

OTOH, my college age daughter is a swim coach for "summer league" here in VA. $4K for the summer. Have about 300 kids during a normal summer.Even if allowed to open, her pool board has decided agaisnt having a team this year as some kids may live in homes where there are high risk folks like you mention, and 1) the kids could be a carrier, and 2) those folks would not be able to watch in person... So, instead they received a PPP and she is getting paid to do nothing this nothing this summer. Extend that out to general populace...we would never get back to normal We as a society have now deemed the needs of the very, very few greater than the good over the overwhelming vast majority...man what a sad state. Wife and I have worked out of home for 20 years..not sure what busines you are in, but i think you will productivity pick up..and have much happier team. Forget all that "culture " poop around fee food, beers in office bull crap..things like ability to work from home are real "culture" builders -
What does the first bolded mean? I truly do not understand. Thanks Also, i am close to retirement, and scared poopless of what may happen based on we respond to this virus.

Name calling like this just hurts the cause..it hurts Trump too. signed up, doing it tomorrow. Not looking to get that swap shoved halfway down my throat via my nasal cavity, but i will do for love of country! -
1 ½ cups red wine vinegar 2 tablespoons sugar 1 tablespoon kosher salt 1 medium red onion, halved and thinly sliced bring first three ingredients to a boil to dissolve salt and sugar. Put onions in some sort of jar or tub. I use an old pickle jar. Let liquid cool for 10 minutes , pour over onions. I like some dried oregano in jar as well , but some do not. just a note, not all kosher salt is equal. I use Mortens , if you using a different brand or table salt, look up conversion chart.

Well, what I eat the most is pickles onions. Make a jar about every other week. Use them on all kind of dishes, and only takes like 5 minutes to make the jar.

it was nice, and informative as said, no need to devolve into this, this is a COVID thread..plenty of places to place our anti Trump messages..notice i said OUR! Double middle finger emoji! as you said later, problem is people in leadership are basing their decisions on "national data"..we are absolutly all Americans. we need to do what we can to help and curtail the virus in NYC, just may be different than the rest of the country Dude , image who i follow on twitterr and what shows up in my timeline...not pretty right now as i push this very idea. -

Hit me last night..going into this whole mess I was a never Trumper..not OMB or TDS as yall like to say, i just don't believe he is a positive for our country...but don't want to argue that here. What hit me last night is the blue states are the blue states, the red states are the red states . The swing states however...My guess is unemployment is hitting pretty hard in most of swing states. I have a bad feeling this will be viewed in a few months time as "the coastal elites did not care about regular folks, after all they were all working from home...look all the data that showed we should have been working , going about lives, and we wasted an extra month and cost XXX amount of unemployment and hardship that did not need to occur all cause they wanted Trump wrong more than they cared about us" and handing the election right back to Trump. And then the whining will commence again. -

And in other encouraging news.. https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/05/08/cdc-notable-drop-in-childhood-vaccinations-during-pandemic/ But i swear, the mass hysteria around will just never let in a cost benefit analysis. -

Okay..so let me get this straight..a double blind study with positive verifiable results is rubbish. Gilead giving away 1.5 million doses, yes giving it away equals, thousands of dollars per dose. And I suppose the $1B spent on development of the drug should just be forgotten, after all it costs only $10 to produce. Eat the billion, its the socialist way! Man, you a Bernie guy? By this posts, sure sounds like it. -
I am going golfing with my buddies...best gift i give my wife is getting out of her sight. Go to 340 here for another idea if you have youngings!

Thats what cracks me up...people thinking somehow if i drink before and right up to I go in, somehow will not need to pee once i get in the gate! If the gate is that magical, should be able to stop the virus at the gate too!!!! -
