Rumor: Trade up discussion with Giants
1billsfan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly, I just did a draft on fanspeak and here is a sample of what the choice would look like... 2018 Starting QB: AJ McCarron (no trade up) with… 12: R1P12 LB TREMAINE EDMUNDS VIRGINIA TECH 22: R1P22 LB RASHAAN EVANS ALABAMA 53: R2P21 WR D.J. CHARK LSU 65: R3P1 RB NICK CHUBB GEORGIA 96: R3P32 QB KYLE LAULETTA RICHMOND 2018 Starting QB: Josh Rosen (after the trade up to #2) with… 56: R2P24 C JAMES DANIELS IOWA 96: R3P32 DL TIM SETTLE Plus no 2nd round pick in 2019 It's very startling when you see a sample of giving up that many prime picks, then you add in the concussion issues with Rosen, along with his possible lack of passion for the game. It's easy to see why the Bills would just forget about trading up and build up a great team around McCarron. BTW, there will be a very good player at #12 if 4 or 5 of these QBs go before their pick. -
I can see this too. Next years QB class looks very weak and it's probably scaring NFL teams like Cards, Chargers, Saints, Steelers and Jaguars who might make a big move like the Chiefs and Texans did last year. It seems Jackson will be the last one seen as a franchise QB talent level after Denver makes their pick which will probably not be Jackson.

I was listening to WFAN this morning and Boomer Esiason said that he thinks the Browns and will select Josh Allen Because he matches what Todd Haley is looking for in a QB (big arm, Rothlesberger style). He also said that he thinks the Giants can not afford to not go QB and will select Sam Darnold. Gives Pat Shumer the young QB to groom behind Manning for one year. Eli Manning is due 23 million next year and ODB’s contract is going to be too huge of a deal to have both players. That would be about 40-50 million tied up in two positions. He then said that he thinks the Jets will pick Mayfield at #3. He didn’t go into much detail as to why other than he felt they were a good match. The Giants picking a QB is not being discussed much. The Bills might even have to give up a prime pick to trade up for Lamar Jackson (if they think he's a potential franchise QB) so that the Cardinals don’t jump ahead of them.

Sorry, I just do not see any one of these QBs close being on the same Manning, Rivers or Rothlesberger level. I'm certainly not wanting them to give up a bunch of prime picks for anyone in this class. It's not 1983, it's not 2004...it's just an above average, deep class of QBs with the top ones having some significant question marks that were not there with the top three in 2004.

I think that the “top four” QBs have been talked about so much (24 hr TV, radio, social media) over the last six months that it might trick the mind into thinking that they have to be good. Why else would they be talked about so much if they weren’t heading for greatness, right? Jackson, Rudolph, Lauletta and White are then seen as non-options because they just haven’t been talked about nearly as much. IMO chances are pretty good that there will be just as many pro bowl QB from the “bottom four” as there will be in the supposed “top four”.

Cover 1:. 5 Reasons Lamar Jackson is the Bills Target
1billsfan replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just don't see Mayfield as being a Beane/McDermott type of player. He does have the drive and passion for the game of football, but he's also a drama magnet on and off the field because he doesn't seem to have a handle on his emotions. His "get in your face" style will end up getting him extra hard hits in the NFL and his team mates will grow tired of it quickly. -
just take jackson and keep picks

As great of a LB Roquan seems to be, you just can not pass on a potential franchise QB. A franchise's "game changing" moment rarely ever happens with a LB. You've got to suck it up, do the right thing and take that swing. -

Seems a lot of fans here want Josh Rosen. However, there are multiple risks and questions with that guy... Concussions Shoulder surgery Personality Is his heart in the game (is he in it for the long haul or will he pull a Jake Locker) I don't know why fans just ignore these things and then pick on Jackson, who's clearly all in on the game of football and has had no injury issues. -

He's got a better completion percentage than both Darnold and Allen when you adjust for dropped passes... ...and he makes defenders look silly trying to catch him. -
Most possible depressing outcome

Yet Jackson doesn't have an injury history (that I've read about) and Rosen has concussions and shoulder problems. As for Tyrod comparisons, that's a false one. Jackson's an electric and dynamic playmaker in the mold of Watson. He's someone who trust his arm and Taylor never was that kind of a QB. -

Jackson's better than all of the others. I just don't understand why he's not considered a top five pick. -
More like... Baker Mayfield = Colt McCoy Josh Rosen = Sam Bradford Lamar Jackson = DeShaun Watson Sam Darnold = Tony Romo Josh Allen = Kyle Boller IMO, this 2018 class is no where near either the 1983 or 2004 QB draft classes. The expectations of this 2018 QB class never lived up to it's billing. If it did, then the Giants would be drafting a QB (which they won't be doing).

Jets just traded with Colts for #3 pick in first round
1billsfan replied to Hurricane's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm all in on drafting Lamar Jackson at #12. However with Arizona and LA Chargers well within range to move ahead of the Bills, don't be too sure he'll still be there. If I'm the Bills, the first team ahead of me that'll take a 3rd round pick I'm moving to pick Jackson, just in case someone tried to get in front of the Bills for him. As for Jackson at #12, he's actually my favorite QB in the 1st round prospects. Darnold's gone at 1 overall, I personally don't like Rosen or Mayfield and I never wanted the Bills to draft either of them, and IMO Allen won't even come close to the production and success which Jackson will have at the NFL level. Also, IMO you don't pick a MLB over the need for a high quality, potential franchise QB prospect, no matter how good that LB is. There will be a good one at #22. I imagine the AFC East as Rosen (Jets), Mayfield (Dolphins) and Jackson (Bills). I like the Bills chances with Jackson because those other two guys are nothing but head cases who are looking for drama and attention. I imagine that doesn't go over very we'll in NFL locker rooms over the long haul. -
He has consistency issues with his mechanics, not major flaws that need round the clock attention. This is the new NFL, where you create mismatches when you have a better hand you can play. If they draft him, he'll see the field in 2018.
-
They'd be foolish not to include Jackson in special packages to create mismatches especially in close to the end zone.
-
More likely Allen or Jackson. With Jackson you can use him in the offense in creative packages (QB/WR/RB) during his developmental season.

Sal says UFA QB's was not the Bills plan
1billsfan replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really don't see what the other option would be. Is it Peterman? They are going to watch Mahomes and Watson (two guys they could have drafted) light up the league in 2018, miss out entirely on the top 5 QBs in the 2018 draft, and then start Peterman? That seems like a very far stretch and I don't see that happening in any way, shape or form. Foles is probably the Bills franchise's panic button, and they are probably very relieved to have an option like him after what he did to the Pats in the Super Bowl. I was referring to a team jumping ahead of the Bills to take the fifth (and last) top QB. -

There may not be any of the top 5 left. That's the scenario I was talking about. Kansas City came from pick #27 to the Bills #10 spot to draft a QB and they already had Alex Smith. Teams that could trade ahead of the Bills for the last of the top 5 QBs in this class are... 15. Cardinals 17. Chargers 27. Saints 28. Steelers 29. Jaguars The Bills may have to trade up from #12 to even get the chance to draft Lamar Jackson. -

If the worst case scenario happens, and the Bills just can not reach a deal with a team picking in the top 5 without them having to give up their entire draft, and then a team trades ahead of them and picks Jackson, the Bills would almost have to give up their #22 pick for Foles. If they don't, they will forever have to face the question, "Hey, why didn't you just draft Watson or Mahomes in 2017?" The only buffer from that disaster QB scenario is trading for the Super Bowl MVP who beat your division rival, with a 1st round pick. That's the price you pay when you pass on good QBs in the draft, when you didn't have a good QB. -

I just don't see his personality meshing with McDermott or Beane. I'm guessing they don't want their starting QB constantly writing checks (talking) that their team has to help cash week after week. Yes, I personally would not draft Mayfield, and I would rather they draft Jackson who I think is not only a much better prospect, but who's a genuinely good guy that professional players will love to play for and have as their leader. Mayfield's brash "look at me" style wears thin fast in the NFL. -
Lamar Jackson is possibly the best or second best QB prospect in this class IMO. Just because the four most talked about QBs are set in stone (with regards to the national media), doesn't mean that they are right. Don't be surprised if the Bills are very high on Jackson and see him as this year's DeShaun Watson (which everyone seems to be either picking apart or ignoring).

IMO, I think this might be the possible order of the Bills thinking... Plan A: Rosen (moving up) Plan B: Jackson (staying put) Plan C: Foles (all 1st rd QBs gone, couldn't get a trade done situation) I think Darnold is going #1, Allen is too much of a project and Mayfield is possibly off their board because his amped up, in your face, personality is too much.
