Oct 2002 - The story of Dick Jauron "Coward"-gate
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we switched coaching staffs with the Dolphins last season, the Bills win the AFC East and the Dolphins finish last. That's how big of a difference coaching was. Can't make it any clearer than that. -
Oct 2002 - The story of Dick Jauron "Coward"-gate

That was an outlier decision made by a man with absolutely no football instincts whatsoever. It's become clear to me that the opposing teams we play actually know what plays we're running before our team does. That is how conservative and predictable the Bills have been on offense and defense with Jauron at the helm. And when the time came to just run the damn ball up the gut, he decides to choose the worst time to be "Mr. Excitement". -
Oct 2002 - The story of Dick Jauron "Coward"-gate
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or how about the 1-15 Dolphins turning the corner in 1 year and winning the AFC East with a rookie head coach and a QB that was considered a washed-up noodle-armed punchline of a starting QB. It's no use arguing with guys who still are able to come up with excuses for Dick's putrid record as a head coach. I'm sure there were still a couple of diehard supporters of Rich Kotite and Wayne Fonts back in the day. -
Researching mind-numbing Jaroun quotes (redundancy, I know) for the other thread, I came across a long forgotten story which I felt was interesting enough to have it's own thread. The story bares a striking resemblance to what pains that the Bills fans are going through today (well those sane ones who have literally had it with Jauron-ball). A quick synopsis is that in Oct of 2002, then Chicago head coach Dick Jauron was called "a coward" by a caller during his a weekly radio talk show after a heartbreaking OT loss to the Lions. Dick responded that he had a lot better ways to spend his time. The setup... After going 13-3 the previous season and starting out 2002 with 2 straight wins then 3 straight losses, the Bears lost 20-23 to the Lions in overtime. Note the Bears final drive "let's try killing the clock with 7 minutes left" ultraconservative play selection which ended with a punt to the Lions with 2:21 in time remaining... http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/chi/2002.htm http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/playbyplay?g...p;override=true Also note: the Bears lost 4 more games in a row after that OT loss, making it 8 straight losses well on their way to a fabulous 4-12 record. Here was some press on the Jauron called a "coward" story... http://www.dailypress.com/topic/cs-021028b...37.story?page=2 "On the air: Jauron cleared up the controversy over remarks he made on his radio show last week. When a caller suggested Jauron was coaching like a "coward," host Hub Arkush jumped in and defended the coach. Jauron, in turn, said he had, "a lot better ways to spend my time."" http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0199-21...2;"Byline: Bob LeGere Daily Herald Sports Writer In light of the publicity generated last week by confrontational calls to him on "The Bears Insider" on WSCR 670-AM Monday evenings, coach Dick Jauron was asked if having to handle adversarial callers was difficult. "For me? No, it's really not," Jauron said. "I mean I'd rather not; you'd rather win all your games. Even then I'm sure you'll have some callers who don't agree with things you do. " And here's a football forum (circa 2006) talking about the episode and the Bills' possible hiring of Jauron... http://forums.thehuddle.com/index.php?showtopic=139708 "I give Dick credit for going to that show each week and getting smashed by callers, while keeping his composure. and about the conservative approach I agree, I remember him saying something like "we just need to keep the game close, and hopefully will have a chance to win it with a field goal at the end." I understand about holding on to the ball, field position, ect......but I cant have my team play the whole game with a prevent offence and defense." I know it's small annedotal story, yet it's one that I had never heard about and explains so clearly why we're so frustrated. He DOES coach like he's afraid of his own shadow. It was as true in 2002 as it is in 2009! I found this story very interesting and if you didn't I'm sure that you'll let me have it. Hey, anybody know if Dick is going to have a call-in show this season?

BIG drop off in talent from 8 to 9. -
The Chargers were an average team last year so if that's his "big win" game then that's not saying much. I'll give the Bills one thing, this year is going to be exciting to watch since there is so much on the line in regards to the careers of Jauron, Edwards and Owens. Even Marshawn Lynch has some proving to do. Everyone is "all in", so to speak. That's what I do like about this season.
-
As bad as Losman had turned out over his five year career, consider the fact that amazingly a three year extension was given to a man whose had a seven out of eight year losing record as an NFL head coach... http://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/JaurDi0.htm Also, consider that Trent Edwards sucked against the AFC East and every good team he faced last year. Now that Losman is history, the big fat target moves directly on Jauron and Edwards. To paraphrase Kelly, it's time to show up this year or pack your f'n bags boys.

Jim Kelly hopes Owens is a disturbance
1billsfan replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This comment from Jim Kelly is so welcomed and refreshing that I find it hard to express my joy. I just freaking love the fact that he came out and said those things so bluntly and so beautifully. Those comments were pure poetry gold for me to read. After three years of listening to and reading Vic Carruci, Jim Miller and Chris Brown's garbage about the importance of "continuity and stability" when it was clear that every lifeblood cell had been sucked dry over at One Bills Drive by our head coach, I've got four words...THANK YOU JIM KELLY! I'll bet that Miami's brilliant turnaround from a 1-15 club to winning the AFC East really irked Kelly this offseason. Those aren't the normal run of the mill criticisms from an ex Bill's star. It's great to see that the anger I've felt since Oct. 2007 has risen to the top levels of Bills backers. -
Obama tells a bunch of 5 year olds to piss off

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100da...rt-predecessor/ http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/20...hall-tardi.html http://www.ktla.com/news/nationworld/sns-c...00288.htmlstory Sorry, but I don't think it's silly when the messiah can't cut some kindergardeners a little bit of slack when he's obviously allowed to be late to nearly every event. This story says a lot about Obama. It says, "Do as I say, not as I do", "I'm a man a principles, except when they're inconvenient to me." So we can blame his staff on his habitual tardiness???? I find that impossible to believe. So the only conclusion is that Obama does in fact call all the shots regarding his schedule and should receive full blame for turning back the kids for the Steelers. -
Looks Like They've Got a Handle on Everything
1billsfan replied to Chef Jim's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
But they did have valid ideas, it was the don't spend trillions of taxpayers dollars that we don't have and that our grandchildren will have to pay off, don't over tax the rich, don't create insane cap and trade restrictions because of the fictional idea that we're warming the globe, don't just keep giving free stuff to people who haven't earned it when we're deep in a hole already, don't waste $400,000 on super-duper presidential plane photo shoots when there's this little software thing called photoshop. Maybe you were just too busy gazing at the "The One" to notice the sane options being presented. Now in four years time, GM's going to have all these little "green" Obama cars that the majority of America doesn't want and are too scared to buy because they don't want to risk their family dying in a clown car. -
NYS budget is already 3 billion in the hole
1billsfan posted a topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
http://www.nypost.com/seven/05202009/news/...e_by_170199.htm California's in the tank, New York's going down the drain...and now Obama is taking the "big spending, do everything government" to the nation at an unreal level. Now that's a brilliant plan! Those Sarah Palin jokes just don't seem as funny now, do they. Seems like the elites in New York and California will need a handout from Alaska and the other "dumb" 47 states now. -

Hey, I thought they're "a bunch of teabagging rednecks".... http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard...e-racists-claim -
The weird twist is that Halliburton didn't own Fox News. I honestly don't know what's worse, a VP having major skin in a wartime supplier or a President's personal propaganda machine in the form of a major news network owned by the company that stands to gain the most via ties to the healthcare reformations and green technologies. But wait, wasn't Obama's biggest platform was that he was going to "change" the way Washington does business? The only thing that's been transparent so far is the very corrupt relationship between Obama and NBC news.

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/rich-noyes/20...rture-hypocrisy How do these so-called news reporters who grew up on the heels of the Nixon/Watergate scandal look at themselves in the mirror every morning? A few years ago I would laugh at Fox News and their biased slant towards the Bush administration, but they've now amazingly become the standard bearers of hard news reporting. I'm not talking about Oreilly, Hannity or Beck (they're obviously commentators/entertainers). It's not gospel, but it looks to be a real attempt at holding US Government elected officials' feet to the fire. This is the Speaker of the House, the third person in line for the Presidency, and this was not news to them? Scary. Is anyone else out there truly amazed at how far the big three networks have fallen? For me, they literally have zero credibility. They haven't had it for quite some time either.
-
Hey, I thought the point was to have a "cool" President this time around. Who really cares if his policies are direct blueprints of California and NYS, two states that are fiscal disasters. Like Joe Biden says..."Hey kids, me and Barack are gonna make sure that when you grow up everyone will get to go to college for free!" Well, at least it's not like the country wasn't fore-warned about Obama's lunacy big government spending plans.

It's still not as funny as those fans predicting a winning record for the Bills in that other thread.

Dick Jauron's insistence on continuity
1billsfan replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One of the dumbest off season stories I've read so far. This is like saying Nancy Pelosi's assistants are on the hot seat. Guess they've officially run out of stories. -
I said it once, I'll say it again...Bills fans are in no position to laugh at any QB, including JP Losman, considering how badly Edwards played last season. I could definitely foresee Edwards being in the same dinghy boat with JP after the 2009 season.
-
He is the most responsible. That's the problem with the Bills, no one's held accountable. Even the guy in charge who's the owner of 7 out of 8 losing seasons. The man who refuses to take his players to task and is ever so willing to give the cover just because he has the need to be liked. Seriously, you don't see this? It's why his teams always suck. Just take a good look at what a real coach did with that 1-15 Miami team. I bet you that he couldn't give a sh-- what his players thought of him. How much playing time did their new FA receiver Ernest Wilford get? Here's a hint... http://www.nfl.com/players/ernestwilford/g...gs?id=WIL057148 It's about playing the guys who want to play, and benching those who aren't pulling their weight (see Chris Kelsay).

The smartest thing the Bills could do is go with a heavy dose of no huddle with the spread formation in 09. If Trent is as smart as they say, and with his quick release, he should have no problem getting rid of the ball before the defenders get to him. I'd like to see the Pats try to cover Evans, Owens, Johnson, Reed and Lynch/Jackson with this scheme. If they blitz there's a hot read, if they try to cover good luck with that. Does Jauron have the balls to give the go ahead on this? Yeah right. I think the Bills would average 24 points a game and be a serious playoff contender doing this, and after three excruciatingly conservative low scoring years the games would finally be much more enjoyable to watch.

A good offseason could become awesome.
1billsfan replied to SouthGeorgiaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey look everybody, it's the biggest load of sh-- excuse coming around for yet another run up the flagpole! It's really not Dick's fault, it's the players! A 7 out of 8 losing season record begs to differ and screams you suck BADLY as a head coach. Dick Jauron is one of the luckiest men on the planet to still have an NFL head coaching job. Oops my bad, I forgot about all of the hall of fame players on the Dolphins and Falcons that propelled them to the playoffs last year.
