To me, this is a silly topic. The term "Elite QB" is an ESPN made-up term so that they can make another stupid list for their network, radio shows and magazine. The only thing that matters is if Ryan Fitzpatrick is good enough to win the Bills a Superbowl. He's clearly never going to be in the "elite" category. So this is an unfair poll from the get go. I see Fitzpatrick as an Eli Manning type of QB. IMO, he's definitely good enough to win a Superbowl so long as there's a good defense and good running game in place.

"Fair" = How many mouths in Port-Au-Prince could have been fed on the half billion dollar you gave to the failing Solyndra? How many mouths could have been fed on the $400,000 Michelle spent just so she could be in Martha's Vineyard four hours earlier than you? Let's talk about greed. Let's talk about Franklin Raines. Let's talk about Barney and Chris and the democratic party's responsibility as to why middle class Americans find themselves in such desperate conditions right now. You've spent 5 Trillion dollars of debt, yet somehow the dirt poor people of this country have become even more dirt poor. What's a fair amount for your next term? 10 Trillion? The man who once glorified himself as a uniter is the very definition of a divider. He hates everything that has made this country great. To put it simply, he hates both freedom and capitalism. Rugged individualism and healthy skepticism of too much government doesn't work? It's never worked? Wow. What a shamefully sorry excuse for a United States president.

Agreed, Dareus has rarely made any plays this year. Yes he's a d lineman, but come on now. Every time I key on him through the magic of tivo, I see a guy who's not being double teamed and who also seems to be not putting forth a full effort to get to the ball carrier. I don't care if Williams isn't there, he's a giant of a man. I always had a feeling the guy was a lazy player, his below average season is only starting to confirm my concerns.

Thinking of throwing in the towel
1billsfan replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Being a fan is unconditional. The Bills don't have to win for me to remain a Bills fan. I genuinely like the players on this team. They just need better coaching and a few studs on defense to turn this thing around. -
A Few Thoughts About The Game
1billsfan replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like Rob's energy, I'm just not sure he's head coaching material because of his wild personality type. Also, I'm inclined to think that Rob would not coach Buffalo so long as his brother Rex is coaching the Jets. Whoever's after Gailey, I just want a guy who's younger than 50, energetic and enthusiastic. I'm tired of watching these retread, cerebral head coaches with that dazed "being a head coach is hard" look on their faces. I have lost all faith in Chan Gailey being the answer. Going from 5-2 to 5-7 tells me this nose dive 0-5 streak is mainly a head coaching issue. Today I was wondering who'd I'd rather have as coach, Wade Phillips or Chan Gailey. I was like, of course Wade Phillps! Then it hit me, when you'd rather have Wade Phillips over your current head coach...you might need a new head coach. -

I don't either. I just want a guy who has that spark of excitement like Jim Harbaugh gave the 49ers. Would that be Perry Fewell? I don't know, but his enthusiasm was contagious. He has a lot of energy and he did a good job as our interim head coach. I was hoping he'd be the permanent hire. I'm sure there are other guys out there like that, but I really believe that these players today just don't respond to old school, cerebral coaching. -
A Few Thoughts About The Game

This team looks as if it's suffering from both injuries and an all around poor quality of coaching. I want a head coach in here that will put in the time and go the extra mile in terms of ironing out the fundamental and foundational issues that seem to plague this team. The defensive scheme doesn't matter when you're a head coach, Mike Tomlin was a Tampa 2 guy who was hired by a non-Tampa 2 team because he was a great fit for the Steelers organizational mentality. -

I understand that ownership sucks...but Ralph wasn't doing the play calling in the second half. Gailey had a nice two year run here, but if his heart isn't in this young man's 24/7 job then I really hope he retires and we get an enthusiastic young guy like Fewell in here. -

I get the feeling that Chan Gailey just doesn't have the drive and dedication needed for today's NFL head coaching job. Too many mistakes are being made by this team to keep pinning it on the players. Before the game the commentator said that the Titans whole deal on defense is to strip the ball from the ball carrier, yet the Bills players seemed completely surprised by this tactic. As if no one even told them that the Titans main goal is to rip the ball away from you. I don't know if it's fair, but 4 out of these last 5 games it's looked as if this team is being coached by a part time coaching staff. My hope is that Gailey retires at the end of the season and Perry Fewell is brought back in as our head coach. -
Mitt Romney is a quack and a political peon
1billsfan replied to Juror#8's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Maybe I just have a weird sense of humor. To me, the guy doesn't come across as a real human being. He's like a character out of B movie from the 50s. -
Going Behind The Numbers - FITZ

Did you see Gailey's face light up when he was asked by the media about Smith? Fitzpatrick and Smith are starting to get some chemistry. I think he does have a legitimate shot at proving himself worthy at the #2 WR position. -

If you want to have a good laugh, this is Mitt Romney from 1994... http://gawker.com/5864166/mitt-romney-has-not-gotten-any-less-awkward-since-1994?autoplay Present day, he still acts like a lifeless automaton. He's exactly what I would picture when robots become so advanced that they're walking, talking and conversing with humans. -
League will study Johnson's escape from Revis Island
1billsfan replied to buffalo1983's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In their first two years as full time starters Johnson has more TD catches and receptions than Andre Reed and there's still five games left in Johnson's second season. He has a real shot at becoming a better WR than Reed if he can get a handle on getting rid of the dropsies in big moments. -

1billsfan replied to buffalo1983's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The chances of the Bills not resigning him are very very small. Why would you give Fitzpatrick big bucks and a long term deal and not resign his #1 guy Stevie Johnson? The answer is they wouldn't. They have a special QB/WR bond and connection and there's no way I see the Bill's FO messes with that. After what they did to Revis, I actually think that Fitzpatrick and Johnson will do some major damage these last five games. -
Gailey showed a different side this last game
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tell that to the players on the 49ers. Today's players need to feel that their coach is emotionally invested. Look at the successes that coaches like Rex Ryan, Mike Tomlin and John Harbaugh have had. A big part of it is that they show an emotional connection to their teams. -
I wasn't ripping him, I was just expecting a regular and sustained occurrence of disruption. When I say no impact, I mean that he's shown the same amount of impact as an average defender. Average players make great plays every now and then too. Dareus needs to start imploding plays and imposing his will on a more regular occurrence. Warren Sapp was double and triple teamed too. We need Dareus needs to become a dominating star, not simply a space taker-upper. Since Williams is out, so to will the jury till the 2012 season. I never said he won't become great, just that he isn't right now for whatever the reasons.

I've been very critical of Gailey's coaching job this past month, but against the Jets he showed me something different. Did anyone else notice that Gailey really seemed much more engaged with the players on the sideline? He was showing some real emotion? The last time I saw this was during the Raiders and Patriots games. I really do think that players feed off of that stuff. If the head coach looks unemotional as if they don't care, I think you will get a team that can fall flat or worse, blown out. Gailey did a very good job and I hope he keeps this new energetic, emotional and involved attitude going the rest of the season. I'm relieved that he has this side to him. Makes me believe that we really can win the last 5 remaining games.

I don't think you understand how good Stevie Johnson is. Comparing him to Josh Reed is simply and utterly ridiculous. As for his comparisons to Andre Reed, he dropped plenty of balls and his helmet slam in the Superbowl was ten times more stupid than what Stevie did against the Jets. In their first two seasons as full season starters, Stevie beats Andre in both TDs and receptions and Stevie's 2nd season still has 5 games left. If Gailey wants to screw his and his QB's chances for the playoffs next season then don't sign Stevie Johnson and hope and pray that a #1 receiver drops out of the sky. I think that Stevie actually has more talent than Andre. Stevie reminds me of Chris Carter, a guy was immature in the beginning but who's uncoverable when he's on his game and healthy. He does need to start making the big game winning plays though. He'll get plenty of chances and I think that him and Fitzpatrick do some major damage these last few games.
-
It's funny how you guys are getting mad at me and calling me an idiot while not disputing my argument that he's made no impact on this team. Instead of telling me he really has had an impact and proving me wrong, I'm getting reasons (excuses?) why he hasn't made an impact. Which in essence is an admission that he hasn't made an impact. I'm not trashing him, I'm just telling it like it is right now. He absolutely could be the type that takes a year or two to become great, but I'm seeing an average guy right now.
-
As crazy as it sounds and as misguided as it was, I think that Stevie was trying to be a leader. His team mates were being openly mocked by the Jets and their head coach in that first game. He wanted to give his team mates some retribution. You can't change who people are. Stevie isn't going to be Aaron Schobel or Chris Kelsay. Two guys who will play by the rules, but would never showed an ounce of caring so much about being mocked by an opposing team that four weeks later they'd get them some payback. The Bills need more guys with a passion and a pulse like Stevie Johnson. Now saying all that, Stevie needs to channel more of his leadership qualities to his performance on the field.
-
I don't think he's a diva, I think he's more of the rebel type. Stevie did this specific dance to mock and embarrass the Jets (like they did the Bills in Buffalo). It obviously backfired big time with the key game winning drop, but him giving the Jets some of their own medicine is very cool with me. This is only the second time in two years that he's done an "crossing the line" TD celebration. He's clearly very embarrassed now and is acting like an prideful yet immature young man who's embarrassed. Fitzpatrick and Johnson are joined at the hip. He knows that Stevie's just trying to save some face and he won't take the comments to heart. To those saying let him walk, he's not going anywhere. Fitzpatrick has been resigned to a big contract and Stevie is his Andre Reed. He's here for the long term, case closed. BTW, this team doesn't need any more big holes to fill. They have quite enough of them right now.
-
After hearing his interviews, what Stevie did was in retaliation to the Jets boorish behavior in Buffalo. I LOVE that attitude. Before that first game, Revis was screaming in front of the cameras that the Bills were soft. The head coach of the Jets was chest bumping Holmes after a TD! Their QB Sanchez was mocking McKelvin in the endzone. Are you blanking kidding me? The Jets are the most classless team in the league. Stevie should have just not fallen on the ground. But the key here is that you have to back it up when it counts. Stevie's got to stop with the drops at the end of these big games. This is what separates the good players from the great players. I really hope Stevie isn't "serious" about his no celebration statement. This thing just blew up out of proportion on him because this was a crucial game, they were playing on sports' biggest stage, NYC, and this was a national game which was very riveting. I hope Stevie stays a little crazy and pushes his creativity because that's who he is, but be cool enough to keep it within the rules.
-
No he's not. I didn't see the Jets double team him once. I realize he was sick last game, but this is week 12. So far, he just isn't the player that we've all expected him to be. That can change, but it's the reality of right now.

Newton = huge impact Miller = huge impact Dareus = no impact Green = huge impact Let's be honest, so far he's been just an average player showing little evidence that he will ever become great.
