If Peyton Manning goes to the Jets...

Who'd you rather have on the Bills right now, Cam Newton or Jason Pierre Paul? Yes. Scoreboard. -
If Peyton Manning goes to the Jets...
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, they should be competitive. But taking a conservative approach still may mean to them that they're still competing. Manning going to the Jets should be the proverbial bucket of ice water being thrown into the faces of the Buffalo Bills. We've been through 15 years of flawed QBs. Manning to the Jets should shock this organization to understand that they need to stop hoping for the underdog QBs to turn out great and just go grab a great one. As for pass rushers, both Brady and Manning get rid of the ball too quickly...this team needs to outscore the league. The NFL has become Arena football. -
If Peyton Manning goes to the Jets...

There are always ways to do it, especially if you are a "NYC" team. I wouldn't be surprised if there'd be a "wink wink, you'll get a part of the team" deal beyond what he gets as salary to get them under the cap. If you strive to be a competitive organization, one that currently holds the longest streak in not making the playoffs, one that hasn't been relevant since the last time you had a franchise QB 15 years ago, one that (hypothetically) finds itself in a division with not one, but two of the greatest franchise QBs of all time... If that doesn't force you to do what it takes to get RG III then that tells me they have no competitive bone in their bodies. -
...wouldn't that almost force the Bills to make the boldest of moves and trade whatever picks it takes to get RG III? I saw an article on Pro Football Talk and I could definitely see Peyton Manning going to the Jets. I almost hope this happens so it would pressure the Bills into finally getting their franchise QB.

The One and Only Stevie Johnson Thread

I disagree. Chan told him that one more incident and he gets benched. Stevie claiming that he didn't know writing on his shirt was against the rules is laughable. That rule goes all the way back to Hollywood Henderson and Jim McMann. The reason he didn't get flagged in Cincy was because the officials didn't see him do it at the time. This was a meaningless game and Chan was able to prove to Stevie (and any other player) not to test him. I think it was a great move that he was benched for the whole game, and I'm a big fan of Stevie's. The message is that the clownish, openly defiant, attention-grabbing acts are officially over. Do a dance, spike the ball, jump into the stands, tweet your butt off after the game, but you're not playing if you openly defy Chan's rules. -
The new NFL is a passing league
1billsfan replied to Picnic Table F'er's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fun facts... Ryan Fitzpatrick threw the football 569 TIMES for 6.7 yards per attempt. Fred Jeckson carried the ball 170 times for 5.5 average CJ Spiller carried the ball 107 times for 5.2 average If Fitzpatrick is our QB next year this team must have a completely balanced attack. Maybe Gailey is to blame for turning Fitzpatrick's early season golden arm into a chicken wing. -
43 defense and a possible 1st rd. pick

At this point I'm going off of Bills' needs, GBN Report of the top players and these player's youtube videos....LOL My draft wish is that the Bills trade up for RG III, but if that doesn't happen it has to be a three down pass rushing monster that we're looking for. Here's a couple of links to the players (with video)... http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=83979&draftyear=2012&genpos=DE http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=69140&draftyear=2012&genpos=OLB -

That's why they need to take a good look at either Nick Perry or Melvin Ingram. Both these players look like great 4-3 pass rushing DE prospects. As for the 4-3 OLB, Moats could be the answer since he has the size and he's made a lot of big plays for the little time he's been on the field. Regarding Zach Brown in the OP, he looked like a real dud in his bowl game. -
Do We Really Have That Many Holes
1billsfan replied to Rob's House's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've come to the conclusion that this team's main problem for the last 15 years is that it lacks a franchise QB. As much as I like Fitzpatrick and understand he had nothing to do with our pitiful defense, his fall from grace this season cemented my opinion that the Bills should give up what they have to go and get RG III. This team needs to stop with the nonsense and do it. Once RG III gets here, you will find talented free agent defensive players begging to sign here for their chance to win a Superbowl with the Buffalo Bills. The time has come, we need to go all out to get our franchise QB. -
You're absolutely crazy if you think the Rams are turning down 2 extra first round picks just so they can draft Kalil. The Rams are going to trade out of their pick to the highest bidder who are looking to draft Luck or RG III. Bank on it.
-
Luck and RG III will most certainly go #1 and #2. Someone will trade with the Rams to get whoever is there. So the Bills would end up having to trade up to the Rams spot to get one of the two. If the Bills offered the Rams three first rounders I would find it very hard to believe that the Vikings would offer the same because that would mean they used four first round picks on a franchise QB after not even knowing what they have in Ponder given that this was his rookie season.
-
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2011/ The Bills were in the middle of the pack in a lot of offensive stats. However, I found these stats to be interesting. Buffalo Bills: 5th in rushing yards per average 27th in rushing attempts 14th in points 26th in total offensive plays 2nd in # of interceptions 10th in total passing TDs

And with the 10th pick in the 2012 draft,
1billsfan replied to rocwocka's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I actually think the Bills offering three 1st round picks (for a franchise QB) in a trade up to the 1st or 2nd pick looks plausible. Vikings - they are not going to offer three firsts to move up one spot especially after burning a first last year on Ponder, that would be using four first round picks in a row to find their QB after giving their rookie QB only one season. Browns - Holmgren likes his GM position too much to not have first round picks the next couple of years. He seems like a guy who'd want to find a guy to develop if he's not sold on McCoy. Redskins - clearly Matt Flynn's destination. Jaguars - see Viking's entry. Dolphins - even if the Dolphins offered the same as the Bills team's would think the Bills' first round pick positions would be much higher up in the coming drafts. -

Franchise tag or contract. The Bills have one of the hardest times attracting free agents and what free agent receiver is coming here on a team QB'd by Ryan Fitzpatrick and one that currently has the longest non-playoff streak in the league? The answer is none. Stevie is coming back next year because the Bills must have a #1 receiver not only for the good of their team's playoff hopes, but even just to sell season tickets. -

I think that this whole issue has been blown out of proportion. What Santonio Holmes did is bad stuff, this is just stupid stuff. Even Gailey said that his hands were tied and he sounded like he hated have to bench him because he as the head coach doesn't know what the celebration rules are either. Bottom line is that this is the NFL, it's a passing league, the Bills didn't sniff another point after he left the game and the Bills must have to have a #1 WR next year, sooooo... Stevie Johnson WILL be coming back one way or the other. -

Ot maybe it was that after watching the Bills score 21 points in the first quarter, Belichick adjusted to what Chan and the Bills were doing and Chan stupidly stuck with the same gimmicky spread stuff. And after being shut out in the first quarter, Tom Brady woke up, realized that he was Tom Brady and then looked across the field and saw George Edwards was defensive coordinating for the Buffalo Bills. -
I think the Bills are at the point where they need to make a gigantic "we're going all in" move. I would fully support the move to trade up for RG III and giving up a boat load of picks. Picking a LB this year in the 1st, then adding a 1st rd. CB in 2013, then a 1st rd. whatever in 2014 would do little but help us keep ending up around 8-8. We are in the "Arena League" age of the NFL. I could see a guy like RG III being very much worth 3 first round picks to get to the #2 overall pick this year. If you had an almost unstoppable offense, all you would need is an average defense patched together with free agents and 3rd and 4th rounders to win a Superbowl. C'mon Nix, do it! Go all in for RG III in this coming draft.

This is a behavioral issue. As a Bills fan I'm proud of Stevie Johnson's effort and performance level in playing NFL football for our team. This team has seen so little of his level of play these past dozen years. I think he gets one more (final?) pass because he's still young and he can grow up mentally. I think what Chan did was right. He essentially has nipped Stevie's foolishness in the bud. I find it almost impossible to believe that now that the blame will be squarely on Stevie going forward that he never gets another "celebration" penalty ever again the rest of his career. Because it's no longer about him having fun, it's now about him screwing his 52 other teammates over. Bravo move Chan. -

Yeah, compare one year 9 million to 25 million guaranteed. Players get hurt playing this game. He basically blew 16 to 20 million extra of guaranteed money. The Bills need a #1 WR so he isn't going anywhere next year because they aren't drafting a WR in the 1st with the team giving up 49 points in three quarters today. -

Stevie Johnson cost himself a long term contract with that move. The Bills will franchise him and make him prove he can behave for a full season before they show him any long term money. -
Chan needs to hire an OC who will be a run first kind of a guy. I think Chan's abilities to call plays and deciding which players to use and when to use them are highly questionable. The Bills three biggest problems were defense, play calling and QB play. The first one was for the whole season and the last two were from the first Jet game on. Draft a Ware-like OLB like Nick Perry with the first pick, hire a qualified OC who know how to use Spiller and Jackson in heavy doses and have Fitzpatrick put a lot of work on his strength and accuracy during the offseason.

And with the 2012 selection the Buffalo Bills Selet....
1billsfan replied to UticaBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm just starting to look at the draft prospects and from first impressions I'd much rather have Nick Perry than Courtney Upshaw. From looking at the various videos of these players, Upshaw has serious midget arms. I don't remember any great pass NFL rusher who had short arms. That doesn't mean he won't be a solid performer, but I think he'll never be the pass rusher we are looking for. I think that Nick Perry is that kind of player. First off, he has a Demarcus Ware pass rusher body with the long arms and legs. Secondly, he looks like he has probowl OLB potential. I'm just starting to look at these players so my mind can change but as of right now, I'm in the Nick Perry camp. Then if we could draft Bruce Irvin in the second we are set in the pass rushing department! -
Fire Chan.... Hire Wannstedt
1billsfan replied to GeorgeEdwardsTeeth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I seriously goofed on that one. I see Marty as the "running game" head coach and I totally forgot that he was originally a defensive guy. I do think that Chan needs to hire an offensive coordinator who will know how to use both Spiller and Jackson. I don't see Chan able to relinquish the passing/spread game. There's got to be some OCs out there that Chan could bring in. -

I really don't know how good Frank would be, but I do want Chan to give up the reigns of being OC. He's not cut from the "run first" cloth which we will need from our OC in 2012.
