  1. I definitely think this is a below-average 8teamer. Those leagues are about accumulating studs, and Brady & Wayne are the only two you got. Where are the 3rd/4th round picks? I don't see them. I had an 8team draft the other night where I got Romo/Palmer, Sjax/LJ/Turner, Andre/Calvin Johnson/Holmes, Clark/Cooley - and I don't think I have the best team.
  2. I don't disagree. When you think about it, it's amazing that Miami was one of our biggest challengers despite no defense or running game. Part of that is a testament to Marino obviously, but part of it is also a good indication that there were a lot of crappy QB's. re: 2008 - we can't really predict what will be made of the careers of Jay Cutler or Derek Anderson, Leinart, Russel, or even Rivers/Garrard. To be fair though, some of them will probably have solid careers and won't be that highly thought of 10 years after they retired, sort of like Everett. BTW what was their SB pick that year? I seem to remember those mags picking Miami a lot (back when we actually had a reason to complain about the media "hating" us).
  3. Damn, I was looking forward to that piece of Drew Carey memorabilia in exchange for Youboty. Definitely one of the more bizarre thread titles I've seen.
  4. It was '04 as well as last year; and they were the last two times we opened vs. a mediocre team at home. Despite the inevitable flamefest I'll just go ahead and say it: Seattle's a must win and it's a win I'm expecting.
  5. I don't particularly like or hate either writer. At the end of the day, the homer TBD opinion on both guys is 100% dependant on whatever month it is.... Between September and December, most people here love Easterbrook because he rips the coaches more than just about anyone else. Ripping the coaches - especially Offensive Coordinator during the season is always a huge point-getter at TBD because everything is always the coach's fault. Pessimism before the season sucks, therefore he's a lousy preseason writer. King is a good preseason writer because he usually likes the Bills (see Super Bowl prediction in 2003). During the season King sucks because he's not as high on the Bills and doesn't place all of the blame on the coaches. IMO King and Easterbrook should become one columnist: King in the preseason and Easterbrook during the season. Easterking (or should that be Kingbrook?) would be TBD's favorite writer ever.
  6. But but but overrated! Crappy OL + frequently injured QB + sick per/game #'s be damned
  7. Hot to go Burress & Williams I think. Honestly if you're targeting Cotchery/Bowe as your #3, Evans is in that same tier of WR's IMO and you should be able to get him if it's a non-homer draft since everyone is so down on him this year. I also like Calvin Johnson more than Williams this year because I think his "floor" is only slightly lower with a much higher ceiling; but Williams is going ahead of him in most drafts.
  8. Romo is actually going late 1st or early 2nd in a lot of leagues. He's one guy who won't be on any of my teams this year because Palmer is available so much later in every mock I've seen, and I think whatever dropoff there is between the two is a small price to pay for upgrading RB or WR in the 2nd round. Of course if Romo has 10 more TD's again I'll eat crow, but I doubt it. .
  9. I'll go ahead & admit that I'm somewhat concerned about this team. For one thing I don't buy the idea that Favre's supporting cast (at least offensively) was much better in GB because a year ago everyone thought Driver/Jennings vs. Coles/Cotchery was a wash at best; and now suddenly the former duo is perceived as vastly superior because Jennings reached the endzone a lot last year and the latter has never had much of a QB or an OL. I still have some doubts about how likely Favre is to play like last year as opposed to the previous few years. Plus I need to see their defense actually stop the run for once in my lifetime - I don't know how much Golston & Pace are going to help in that department; but if Jenkins returns to old form (like we all hope/expect Stroud to) they could be tough to deal with. As LLRalph pointed out though, we're either going to be good enough to make the playoffs or not - it's unlikely that the Jets will be the one roadblock that stops us when we otherwise would've been good enough to get in.
  10. Philly resident here - couldn't agree more. Entertainment is always going to be a piece of sports radio. Another important aspect for me (more so than whether or not they come off as condescending, which they do at times) - is that it's nice to know that the guys who get paid to do it for a living know more about what they're talking about than me. With the blowhard rush-hour guy in Philly, that's clearly not the case because he/they live in such a parochial bubble. Mike & Dogg on the other hand - while spending too much time on NY baseball for my taste - still have some recollection of basically every postseason NFL game ever played; as well as knowing the 3rd pitcher on every rotation in the Majors. To me that's an invaluable asset in deciding whether or not I want to listen. This is a nice Simmons piece from a few years ago.
  11. Good thing I was watching Titans-Raiders... Clicker skills obviously in pre-season mode.
  12. As I said after the Denver game last year, short-term memories among fans/announcers is a huge pet-peeve of mine; so yah the tendancy to call the most recent event "the most exciting/heartbreaking thing ever" is annoying... But you just don't know what you're talking about here. France was favored, not debatable. If you think these swimming announcers conspire to build drama, you're not watching the same coverage as me - they basically tell you who is going to win every race beforehand (notice they're almost always in lane 4 or 5). Any basketball analogy is insane because swimming is so much more mathematical than any other sport - the fastest sprinter in the world just doesn't get chased down by a 32yr old nobody who has choked in the previous 2 olympic games (in an event in which the US was previously undefeated in). Owens & the Miracle were great and not even in the same league in terms of their larger impact; but for anyone under Age 35, it was the most exciting olympic event ever seen live and to me it's not particularly close.
  13. I think these sentiments sum up 90% of the country; which sorry to bring it up but, kinda shoots a hole in all those racist theories in '04. How that punk ass Marbary was ever on the team I'll never know.
  14. Sean McDonough, Bill Rafftery & Jay Bilas on college hoops...best team in sports imo.
  15. If this guy ever wins a silver medal does he just throw it in the trash?
  16. I've got to take my hat off to those girls; it's the most pressure they've faced in their 7 years on earth.
  17. She was clutch in that first set.
  18. There is definitely a big enough sample size to take the 370 rule seriously... However I do think LJ is being sold a bit short this year based on the fantasy rankings I've seen.
  19. Do you have to have a backup everywhere? If not get another RB asap. As mentioned it's not a bad team for a 14 teamer. I also like Driver because there's more luck in TD's than there is in yardage and I don't expect Jennings to hog all the scores for GB again. I have a hard time seeing Schaub & Eli on the same team just because I personally have them rated right next to each other....if you took them more than a round apart I think whoever you took first could've been a reach.
  20. Well put. The media disrespect card was valid in 92-95 when people were picking the Dolphins/Raiders/Chiefs every year to win the AFC. 00-07 including but not limited to King's Super Bowl prediction in '03 - not so much.
  21. There's that; plus the fact that for every Belichick, there are many more Rich Kotites and Dom Capers' (but nobody ever brings that up). I mean I actually kinda like Jauron, but - as much grief as Mike Schopp takes around here I agree w/ him here - I don't know how you can expect to win a championship with a coach capable of making a tactical error as egregious as the Dallas game (ie believing that a hail marry was more likely than a short out pattern). To me that was worse than any single decision Mularkey ever made and on par with Gregg Williams punting on 4th&2 from the Pats' 32 trailing 17-3.
  22. That is awesome.
  23. I of course think that hating this guy because he's a "Bills hater" is a typical TBD whinefest. I do agree however, that he comes across as only slightly less dumb than the clueless Emmit Smith. To me this is real surprising because one of the things reporters raved about in his playing days was his smarts and that he will be a coach/gm someday. Maybe someone is telling him to dumb down because they don't want a Ron Jaworski type of x's & o's guy to fill that role.
  24. Not sure krazykat deserves the troll-hate he's getting, but I agree w/ this completely. Disagree w/ this theory that the Bills give their young guys less time to develop than the average team. I mean yah, Terry Bradshaw was given a while but in the modern era that just doesn't happen anymore. Those that are patient are "rewarded" with a David Carr much more frequently than the often-cited Drew Brees. If Alex Smith doesn't get it done this year, there is zero chance he's playing opening day 2009 and only a slightly better chance he finishes '08.
  25. Glenn isn't someone who scares me at this stage, but from what I have seen has more left in the tank than Zach Thomas (would anyone argue that he can still play if he didn't leave?). Taylor can still play - losing him will hurt. Ricky Trees doesn't scare me in the least. A healthy Ronnie Brown might, but that's a big if. So yeah, they'll probably suck again at least for this year. At the end of the day though, there's a pretty good chance Parcells knows what he's doing. His perceived failure in Dallas was basically a product of crybaby Cowboy fans (and the media circus that follows them) who have the same sense of entitlement as Yankee fans. Nobody seems to want to remember that they were a garbage franchise coming off 3 consecutive 5-11 seasons prior to his arrival. And not that it means much, but I can't remember the last time anyone accurately predicted the 2nd-4th place finishers in this division.
