  1. Just as an interesting experiment I have Tedd Bridgewater up on my NFL rewind.

    - The first pass Teddie throws is soooooo far to the back shoulder of Jennings who makes an acrobatic catch to come down with it........its amazing how good QBs look when their wide receivers help them out.

    - The next pass he throws is far downfield and should have been intercepted (he had a decent amount of time on that throw as well)

    - The Vikings game is totally working.....just no negative stuff....a chunk here....a chunk there

    - Sports commentators show a snapshot of how Teddy Bridgewater was sacked 8 times in his previous game by the Lions

    - Bridgewater is showing pretty good accuracy on screens short throw stuff

    - End of the 1st Teddie overthrows a over the middle open reciever

    - Jackson being carted off the field....my heart still drops every time i see it

    - Teddie overthrows a route coming out of the backfield

    - Teddie throws deep...not even close to the receiver

    - Teddie scrambles......doinks a ball off the back of a bill and is intercepted by another BIll

(We would be crucifying him at this point)

    - Teddie throws another pick on the vikings very next offensive possession

(Teddie would be horse glue at this point)

    - Teddie throws a nice middle throw complete with a bill draped all over him

    - Teddie nice short throw to a WR with an opportunity with RAC and scores

    - Down goes Spiller with the shoulder ($*$*%$*)

This is about a halfs work of work........

I see some good......some bad.......I fail to see where Teddy looks great while EJ's games looked like a dumpster fire

Detroit was one of the best defenses in the NFL. Kyle Orton had the same passing numbers against them as EJ dd against Chicago. The worst defense in the NFL. Also, we didn't run nearly as well against DET.

Every reciever praised Orton over EJ.

That praise started going downhill fast as the season wore on

I actually didn't miss the whole point of the article. Let me ask you, when was the last time you have ever seen a stat that referenced that compares a QB's efficiency on 1st down in a 1 score game before? Is that what it has come down to for the EJ fan club?

And where am I taking Hackett's opinion as gospel? I've already considered him a bad OC. EJ had Jimbo Fisher in college and he still wasn't considered the best QB in a very weak QB class. But I'm sure that's somebody else's fault too. Maybe, just maybe EJ isn't that good of a QB. And maybe, just maybe, I'm going to judge him based on his on field performances and not make excuses as to why he's grossly disappointed and fell short of expectations. And maybe, just maybe, I'll evaluate him again to see what he can do with a new coaching staff. In the meantime, his body of work speaks for itself and I'm not going to pretend to be in fantasy land and think of as many reasons why he wasn't better just because my feelings have trouble accepting the reality of the situation which is EJ hasn't been any good in 2 years.

The same way we have no possible way of knowing whether EJ would have been better with a different OC but it hasn't stopped people yet.

    It will this year

  2.

If you truly want to look in the mirror, then you have to acknowledge the sliding slope that EJ was going down since the second half of the Miami game. Houston is the game that everyone talks about, but the San Diego game was more pitiful, especially the inconsequential last red zone series. The Texans game simple sealed the inevitable, as it was becoming clear that EJ was quickly losing the confidence of his receivers.

it's not all about stats. EJ's game was going downhill very quickly. Whether that was his, his coaches' or players' faults is immaterial. A change needed to be made at that time.

I actually agree with this......I mean receivers were flat dropping catchable balls.......but you also had chemistry issues with receivers not turning round at the right time to locate balls which is a timing issue......

I personally thought that if they were gonna yank him after the Texans game.....I was ok with that.....but there was a 2 game spike up with Orton then his game also started flatlining.....and there was a opportunity there to bring EJ back in and see if his game didnt pick up....also giving the coaches an opportunity to get more games of evaluation out of him.

Ahh you're back. Still waiting for you to cite an example of me ever using a stat, let alone "every" stat, to criticize Manuel. You cite obscure stats to defend him, while all I am saying is, "he kinda looks like he sucks."

And excellent use of the 'Orton sucked too' Manuel defense. Well done.

The Orton sucked too is not a Manuel defense....it is a reality

  3. You can look in the mirror. He had 2 decent games and 2 bad ones. That really deserves to be given up for an entire season in your 2nd year? For a mediocre at best journeyman QB?

Again, if this was a well renowned offensive coach, it might mean something. Why should any Bills fan trust Marrone's judgment?

I want to know how Ortons dumpster fire was any different then EJ's dumpster fire

  4. The nice thing about it is this is a Rex Ryan D.......defensive players shine in a rex ryan D

I still feel that Marcel and Gilmore need to be resigned because we want an ELITE D.......but if Bradham asks for ridiculous money I feel that LB's in this system are plug and play.

  5. OK I lied, I'm back.

If Derek Carr has an offseason and preseason that is so incredibly alarmingly, shockingly, startlingly bad that the Raiders have to throw big money at a retired QB who has stated he doesn't want to play anymore on the eve of the season as an insurance policy, then and only then will they be in the same place going into their respective second seasons.

You gotta admit, I won that one.

    LOL

  6. If people are going to make excuses for EJ and the coaching he received then why do they not make similar excuses for Carr? Who was coaching him and more importantly, look at the talent he had around him on offense. If it matters for EJ then it should for other QBs..

I saw a lot of Carr first hand last year as I live in a house filled with Raider fans

And I think he is a good QB......I also think he played in a much more QB friendly system......was given the green light to actually try to win games with his arm.....and played on a HORRIBLE raiders team so there was not that much pressure on him......

That said...I thought he was one of the best players on the offensive side of the ball and that team got better as the season went along.

  7. We can't be friends then. The only answer here is Bridgewater over EJ everyday.

Bridgewater just as much potential as EJ. It's all about being able to play QB and all these physical and athletic traits mean nothing of the QB doesn't know how to use them.

Potential is just another word for something a QB hasnt done yet.

There's a degree of merit to the coaching point but I would contend with Brodgewater was by far the better and more pro ready QB than EJ. Being tall and having a strong arm is not potential. It's iust a physical trait and that is really the only thing EJ has on Bridgewater. Otherwise it's no contest. Clearly you may feel differently.

You do realize that QBs mature at different rates?

  8. I'm in the "anyone other than Cassel" camp, simply because I want the Bills to finally have a young QB they can rely on for the foreseeable future haha. Though, that being said.. if we have good blocking, Cassel would be the "safest" bet, at least.

He did beat out bridgewater in camp for the starting spot with the Vikings.....

Cassel also has those injury issues....he really needs to pick up his play from off season workouts though

  9. Um, Manuel only had Watkins for 4 games in his career. In one of the best starts of his career against our new coach, Manuel threw 3 tds with Goodwin and Graham as his starting Wrs.

It's just so funny fans' perspectives. Carr has almost a yard less ypa than Captain Checkdown and he is obviously better than our young qb. Less than 6 ypa is beyond awful.

For some reason, I feel a lot of the biggest Manuel badgers were Johnny Manziel fans.

Also important to note....that while I feel Sammy is gonna be a fricken stud....in the last game I went back and re evaluated Sammy had FOUR drops in that game that should have been catches

Ironically it was the Texans game after which EJ got benched......4 drops by Sammy......a very nice throw to williams that went off his fingertips that would have been a huge gain......

The wide recievers also have to do THEIR jobs

  10. Personally I'm fine with either QB, they both show promise for being in difficult to develop situations.

I think at this point, if he doesn't win the job, EJ is basically done. Which is a shame, because he's got a good head on his shoulders and a good physical makeup. He, like many promising QBs, are part of a group that greatly depends on decent development if they are going to make it in the NFL. Its rare that a QB is so talented that they just do great regardless of the coaching and talent around them.

I think it would be fair to give EJ one more year PROVIDED that he actually wins the job. Like I have said....dont like the way he has been handled but whatever Roman and Gailey decide on the QBs I am ok with. If they think that Tyrod Taylor gives them the best chance to win then so be it.

But if he gets another year.....I think he would have to either show something or we move on.

  11. I crapped on Bridgewater as a top 5 prospect. I said after the draft that the Vikings took him in right about the correct spot.... they played their draft very well.

I think it is also worth noting that Teddie gets things that help him succeed as a QB......

Namely.....a running game that actually works.

See people keep talking bout our RBs and how much we like to run the ball.....if we have to run it 10 times to gain 20 yards that is not effective running.

The running game of Bridgewater kept the pressure off him......

Your point was that we don't know if would EJ do better on the Vikes, yes? How do we know he wouldn't do better on the Pats than Tom Brady would do on the Bills?

Why are you continuing to change the subject?

  12. If there is anyone here that would take EJ over Bridgewater or is on the fence about who is better then I know never to take anything they say seriously. Ever. I sincerely hope that nobody here feels that way.

I myself would lean towards bridgewater because I thought he was a an excellent QB coming out in a good QB class.......where as EJ came out in a horrible class

    but

Its not about where they are when you draft them....it is about where they will be when they hit their ceilings. If EJ can figure some things out he would make a VERY good QB

How do we know EJ wouldn't have more success than Tom Brady?

Sorry not the point and dont change the subject.

You routinely through little key words into your posts that give away your true feelings.

There is no giving a "chance" with EJ with you. You have made up your mind. Now it is all about stopping the paroting of things that are not true.

  13. Maybe because EJ has better recievers and a top ten defense?

How do we know if EJ was a Pat and Tom Brady was a Bill he wouldn't be having more success?

Even if you want to argue that EJ stinking in games was because of the offense/Marrone, that doesn't account him stinking in practice.

    Your bias really betrays you.....

EJ did not STINK in games....he was inconsistant but he had good play mixed with bad play

That does not constitute stink......that actually sounds like a rookie QB

  14. Yes, of course. If you were to poll non-Bills fans across the country who they would rather have as their QB, Bridgewater or Manuel, literally more than 99% of them would say Bridgewater. Guys, are some of you really trapped in this much of a Bills bubble??

Not that it matters because they're all hacks and haters but ESPN Insider ranks Bridgewater 23rd, Matt Cassel 31st and EJ Manuel N/A because they apparently have him losing the job to Matt Cassel. So yes, really.

The source who told me that Marrone left because he refused to fire most of his staff is the same source who gave me Mario Williams visiting the Bills, which I broke on this website before anyone else, let alone the national media. It is a direct source from the team. Haven't had to invoke that one in a while.

And if Lewis was in fact a pseudo rookie in 2013, we should have held onto him longer because he looked every bit as good (his statistics are better pretty much across the board) as Manuel did that season. In all sincerity, I am perfectly fine with them moving on from Thad Lewis and I am happy that Manuel is still competing for the job but that is true.

The reason why I bring up Bridgewaterfen

    - Our very own Matt Cassell was outplaying Bridgewater and got the starting nod.....then Cassel got hurt

    - Bridgewater DID in fact have an excellent rookie season......a injury free......rookie season in which both Cassel and Bridgewater looked good in that offense

    Meanwhile

    - EVERY FRIGGEN QB that has rolled through under the Marrone era coaches has either looked bad.....or started off looking good and started looking bad as time went on

    - Ted Bridgewater actually has more starts then EJ Manuel even though Teddie was rookie

See where I am going with this? The situations are different. How do we know that EJ Manuel was a viking instead of a bill that he would not be having more success as a QB?

  15. Few things. Don't disagree with most of what you wrote. But Thad Lewis was not a rookie in 2013. And also, as I have stated before, Doug Marrone quit because he refused to fire the bulk of his coaching staff. So one way or another we would not have gotten Marrone along with his full complement of coaches again in 2015. And as far as you know who, I don't mind giving him a little bit more of a leash. But there have been QB's who have shown more development in less time than he has been given. Teddy Bridgewater and David Carr being the two most recent examples. But anyway.

    Teddy Bridgewater? Really?

  16. No. I will be completely reasonable and objective about him just as I have always been about every Bills player. If he completely sucks, I will say he sucks. If he's just OK, I'll say he's just OK. If he's great, I'll say he's great. I promise. I have no ulterior motive here. And I also would never post on this website during a Bills game. I am at the bar watching. The analysis comes after the game.

Fair enough Metz....there are so many trolls in the shout box on game day it is easy to get the names mixed up....maybe it wasnt you
