I used to believe this kind of thing every time the Bills brought in a fast guy. "Yeah, great now the defense has to respect the deep ball, and it will open things up underneath"...but it never seemed to help the terrible offenses we have had. If the guy can't catch it, or the the QB can't throw it, it's not going to be effective.

Goodwin hasn't shown the ability to consistently come down with the long ball.

I don't claim to care deeply. I like discussing Bills football, and he is on the team.

I'm sure if I didn't come out in against the silly attacks on Tom Brady, you wouldn't care to jump in on this this part of the thread, either. There are a few dudes here who just can't get over it.

I actually have been mostly ignoring the Tom Brady thread so I wasnt even aware of your blashemy

I actually have been mostly ignoring the Tom Brady thread so I wasnt even aware of your blashemy

Also I would just like to point out one other thing

The amount of "weight" to try to prepare for taking hits to a frame like Goodwin would not amount to squat.....and would probably take away from his fast twitch speed wich would undermine his whole strength.

Olympians train YEAR ROUND.......they do not take months off like a lot of football players do in offseasons and then start their football training up again at a certain point........so in essence Flash Goodwin probably puts in more work then a lot of our wide receivers do as far as body preparation because he never actually stops.

    and

One of Flash Goodwin's real strengths is his ability to high point a ball even though he is short in stature. You do realize that all this long jump training is the same training that allows him to high point balls?

You dont seem to know much about this stuff (and as a common fan your not required to) I thought you should know.

  2. "Learning" how to run behind a fullback is so overrated. Any good back can do it. It's no different than running behind a pulling guard or behind a wr downfield. Reading blocks is reading blocks.

From a blocking perspective the angle is a bit different.....FB's will lead up into gaps (usually to take out a filling linbacker) and that action is much faster so the RB has to read faster

  3.

I would have drafted Bryce Petty in the third and not traded my fourth last year for Brown and used that pick for a Guard.

Don't know how good he will be but he has the tools to play and more importantly the attitude to play QB, which is more promising than the guys we have now.

Even though there is a lot of talk that this years QB crop was a lot like the QB crop where EJ Manuel was drafted past the top 2 guys (which we didnt have a shot at)....and that in fact a LOT of people were comparing Bryce Petty to EJ except that EJ ran a pro style set while Petty has not......and my NEVER be good enough to start in the NFL

And even though the coaches absolutely love John Miller....who appears perfect for the offensive system Roman employs.....and word out of camp is he is holding his own with a DL that is most considered one of the best in the league

So glad you are not our GM

  4. Being a good route runner is not the same thing as marker awareness. His routes are crisp, and he makes his cuts well, which is why he's open so frequently. He may well have run a few 7 yard outs when an 8 yard out was required for the first down, but that's coachable; and the routes he ran were very crisp.

I disagree with this......being a good route runner and knowing where the marker is are totally the same thing.

You have the 4 words that you are quoting correct. You are just missing his other 100+ words, and getting their meaning and context completely incorrect.

Forget it doc....he either doesnt understand or he simply doesnt want to

It's only contradictory if you believe all street QBs are created equal. Orton was serviceable. He commanded a ~$5.5M salary. He was a bandaid. QBs like Palmer and Leinart are complete Hail Marys and moves like that deserve to be mocked. But again, I'm criticizing the circumstances that lead up to making these moves.

Obviously you take a more aggressive approach to drafting a QB. Do you want specifics? That's a slippery slope. Do you want to hear "draft Beckham and trade back into the 1st for Bridgewater" again?

Instead, how about I give you an example of a franchise that takes an aggressive approach to the QB position? Our dear friends, the Patriots. They have one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game, and yet, year in and year out, they draft more QBs. Not always late round picks either, mind you. We are talking 2nd (Garoppolo) and 3rd round picks (Mallet, O'Connell). This is not from a team that has a question mark at the position - they already have a HOF QB! It's an organization that clearly understands the value of the position and acts accordingly. By comparison we are like the timid kid that sits in the back of the class and is afraid to raise his hand.

This franchise is allergic to drafting QBs. (and no, this doesn't mean we should draft a QB in the 1st round every year)

And of Bekhem ends up not being a good WR? You know he is a pretty damn small WR right?

I liked Bridgewater.......what players would not be on the roster with the trade up

    Grapolalo.....no sure thing....Mallett....no sure thing.......

You are giving examples that have not been proven to be correct......yet

  6. Lets not forget that Polian also drafted QB Kerry Collins for the expansion Carolina Panthers with the #5 pick in the first round. Polian was hired away from Carolina after two short years, after the man built a team from scratch that went 12-4 in its second year of existence. Collins eventually did manage to get to a SB with the NY Giants. At what pick in the 1st round? When was the last time we were that low?

Polian was also essential in signing / bringing in QB Jim Kelly for Buffalo, and making him the highest paid QB in the NFL at that time.

Once gain....at what pick did we draft Jim Kelly

He was also instrumental in drafting Bruce Smith, and negotiating his first contract. Then later on when the Broncos offered two first rounders for Bruce ole Bill kept him in Buffalo when others wanted the picks.

Which has exactly what to do with QB?

Polian also knew the difference between Peyton Manning, and Ryan Leaf when the Chargers where foolish enough to make him the very next pick in the draft. There is a reason why the man is being inducted into the pro football hall of fame this year!

Ill give you that one. But once again.....at what picks where these QBs being drafted?

Oh BTW, exactly how long did it take for Polian to find a QB good enough to take all four teams he was GM / president of to the playoffs? I'll tell ya, two years with all four teams!

At what draft pick did he make those draft choices.

Some want to keep deflecting the fact that here we are in year three of the current GM's reign, and even he acknowledges the team is still devoid of the single key player needed for a SB run.

Do you see the common theme here?

  7. Would just like to point to how Aaron Rogers and Payton Manning did against our (completely intact) defense last year.....

Although Denver won....Payton had one of his worst games

Aaron was in a thumbsuck position by the time the game was over

So if the colts defense is crap...they might actually be in trouble even at home
