I watch a lot of baseball and there were several games last year where it was brought up that everyone will say "tie goes to the runner" and it was proven that it does not exist. So, yes, having trusted the evidence presented to me on those telecasts where they referenced the specific areas of the rule book proving this, I feel confident making that statement. One thing I was proud of today (maybe the only thing) is that in garbage time as our guys were making stat sheet catches (Stevie, Evans and Nelson), none of them were jumping up and pounding their fist on their chest or anything like that. Just about every other receiver in the NFL acts like they're not losing by 30 when they make a catch. Look at TO today when he caught the TD, then compare to Nelson. You're still losing by 20, TO.

The call was not correct. You have to complete the catch in the field of play. Just like that interception weeks ago that did not count because our guy stepped on a foot or Calvin Johnson's play in the end zone that was called back. Even if I agree that Rice gets the "catch" because tie goes to offense (not sure that's actually a written rule - sort of like tie goes to the runner in baseball, there's actually no such thing in the rule book), it doesn't matter. When Rice "completes" his catch he's rolling around out of bounds. No catch.

Gee, that's easy. The other team lost and TCU (or Boise St) hasn't. I mean, really, how many years in a row are you going to watch them put these 1 loss teams in there without realizing it's stupid. You play the schedule that you have, and if you win them all, you go to the final. How is that so hard? It's only a discussion if only 1 team goes undefeated, or if three do. Then you have to figure out who goes based on nuance. But if two teams go undefeated, schedule irregardless, they play in the final. It's great, because there's no need to look at the nuance. Would you want such a system in the NFL? How would you feel about ESPN and the NFL anointing the 1 loss Patriots to play in the Super Bowl over the undefeated Bills against, say, the undefeated Cowboys because of some perceived idea that the Patriots had a harder road to their 1 loss record than the Bills to their undefeated record? Sounds stupid, right? People make this stuff so hard. If there are 2 teams undefeated, they clearly should play each other for the National Championship.

Even worse than the miss inside 40 yds was the out of bounds kick right after that. I will say this, if he keeps this string going Gailey will certainly try out new Ks in the off season. There's plenty of kids coming up every year with stronger legs than Lindell has. No way is Gailey going to do all of this work with the offense to let some "idiot kicker" (as Peyton Manning would say) repeatedly blow chances for the team single-handedly. I really thought the Bils were going to end up losing the game by three after Cincy got that last second FG before half time thanks to a combination of Lindell kicking it out of bounds and the refs trying to help the Bengals win by adding a second to the clock.

Yeah, I got news for all the naysayers, Fitz isn't going anywhere at this point. The combination of his play with the fact that the Bills are going to be pushed out of the top three (maybe top 5) draft picks thus removing the temptation Nix might have to pull the trigger on Luck or Mallet (who, if they are in the draft will probably both be gone by the time the Bills pick). On top of this I agree with the assessment of Gailey / Fitz combo. NO WAY does Gailey let Nix mess this up by playing some drafted rookie just because he was drafted when he's got a young QB (Fitz is only 27) who already understands the offense, gets it in the right spots and is making plays. Even if we had the first pick and Luck was sitting there and Nix took him, I doubt Gailey would play him until he outright earned the job over Fitz, and you simply cannot beat out an entrenched starter who is throwing 2 - 4 TDs a game behind a still somewhat suspect OL, no matter how well you practice. In other words, only an injury would get the kid on the field anyway. You might see the Bills take a mid-round flyer on an athletic QB, but to me that would be more of an indictment of Brohm as the backup than any threat to Fitz as starter.

Hey, I am in town as well (north of you, in Cumming). I have DirecTV so I typically stay at home. But one year I was downtown on a Sunday and so I went to the Bills Backers bar in Midtown. When I went, they said they were moving away from the Hudson Grille but I see their website says they are still there. Bills Backers of ATL The experience wasn't too bad - plenty of TVs with most but not all dedicated to the Bills game. Pretty good crowd - I went on my own and pretty quickly got in with a bigger crowd (buying a drink or two for your fellow Bills fans does wonders!) Hope that helps.

Yes, once it goes over 40 yards with him, I have always thought it was a 50-50 shot. Incredibly accurate inside 40, but he is below overage 40 - 50. NFL kickers can get a pass over 50 yards, but the difference between an NFL kicker and not is 40 - 50 range. Also, the show he put on waving his hands at the goalposts really irritated me. He's waving at them like the wind didn't behave as it should but you can see the flags on top pushing to the right, which is exactly where his kick went. Rian, if the wind is pushing right, you can't kick it to the right and try to draw it back in. You can see the wind is not going to allow that kind of action on the ball. You need to kick it left and let the wind do what it does.

The entire coverage on NFL network was awful - they should be ashamed. At one point as they were cutting to halftime they flash the score up and it said the Ravens were beating the Ravens 13 - 0

If the Bills hired that jerk Harbaugh as HC that would officially do it for me as a Bills fan. I can endure the losing, the pitiful performances, but having to watch that arrogant SOB coach my team would be the very end.

Since I've been called Ms. Fitz more than once on this board, I will go with the obvious. Ryan Fitzpatrick is clearly my favorite Bill.

Wow, you have me beat I think. Bills / Sabres - of course like most everyone else on the board. Both massive disappointments most years Padres - not as much of a disappointment as you might think. They have a good season about every 3 years or so. Hawks - the one team I adopted since moving to Atlanta, since I moved here without a real team I rooted for in the NBA. They look like they might be real good this year, even better than expected. Lost the last couple, but they have been playing without a small forward. Duke Blue Devils - my ray of hope. Always been my team, watching the All Access show right now. You can see from my other teams I am in no way a bandwagon jumper. Been rooting for them since I was young.

A few people have already addressed this, but there are many examples every year of veteran first year DCs coming in and having success. In the past few years, Mike Nolan, Dolphins Dom Capers, Packers Gregg Willians, Saints Perry Fewell, Giants I probably don't need to go on. It should have been simple enough for a long time veteran of the NFL like Chan to have connections with a veteran DC to come in and handle the defense, but he got on a little power trip and decided to hire a first timer yes man instead. If he had done what Sean Payton did, and said, "Hey, I'm going to come in here and fix this offense, but I don't know what I am talking about on D, so I am going to bring in a veteran coach to handle that side," we might have 3 or 4 wins now. But instead we hire someone who really hasn't done the job at any level and we get what we deserve. I can't believe there are folks out there defending George Edwards. He's clearly learning on the job. He might be somewhat less clueless now than he was at the beginning of the season, but this is the NFL. You don't hire anyone that is clueless at any point.

He absolutely should get canned, way in over his head, the excuses above about transitions to 3-4 notwithstanding. Plenty of other teams have done without such struggles in year 1. But he won't, unless some veteran DC that Chan has worked with in the past comes free, and I am not sure who that would even be.

Mobile phone salesmen need to be lighter on their feet. Too many prospects would be able to juke their way past his kiosk.

Agreed. Anyone watching that game and coming out and blaming Fitz for the loss should go ahead and turn their fan card in and stop watching football. The game was almost entirely on the coaching staff, with the decisions not to run the ball and the poor decisions at the end of the half and end of OT. 1. When you have the ball around the 40 with 2 minutes left in OT, make sure you are the only team with a chance to win. Run the ball up the middle, get closer, run down the clock and take your change with the FG. Worst case is a tie. 2. It made no sense to allow the refs to run the 10 seconds off and at the end of the half and take the TO anyway. 3. When you "ice" the kicker at the end of the game, the point is to wait until just before the snap, so that the team has to execute the kick twice (like we had to). You don't take the TO before the snap, because all you do is relax the kicker (first kick in OT). Or leave the TO in your pocket and not take it all (second kick in OT). Having to explain this stuff to an NFL coaching staff is a little embarrassing. I like Chan and the way he is teaching this team, but it looks like we have another bad game manager on our hands.

That's pretty surprising considering I read another article this week that the Chiefs blitz statistically less than any team in the league. They saw Crennel's been playing it very conservative. I was amazed there was a team out there that blitzes less than the Bills

My fear about Edwards is that he has agreed to take the bullet this year so the defense does just enough to lose games and they can get another high pick to waste. In exchange they promise they won't fire him in the off season. So we waste another year playing games with this team instead of selling out to win every opportunity we get. We will end up with the first pick next year but continued leadership from a DC that may well be in over his head. Think about it, they can't have the offense suck or everyone will call for Gailey himself's head. So they deflect it by having the defense out of position throughout the game. If everyone is pissed at Edwards that causes less of a crisis. The personnel is bad, but not so bad as to be allowing 35 points game in and game out. Coaching has an absolute ton to do with it and I am just terrified some of it is intentional for draft positioning.
