  2. Funny you should focus on Garrett Wolfe for RB. I had the same thoughts. If we do not trade for Turner, and Peterson is not there at 12 (both very likely), then I would rather wait and pick up a dynamic back like Wolfe to pair with Thomas. Then next year we can always sign Turner if it is not working out once he is a completely free man. For those not convinced on Wolfe and feel he is too small, look at these moves against the #1 team in the country: Guys, these are Reggie Bush moves. If you could get a back like that in the 4th or 5th round, why wouldn't you...what a steal!
  3. Sorry, totally disagree (respectfully)... I think the team needs are: LB - Need at least one starter and also need to add depth CB - Need to at a player who will become a starter and depth RB - Need a starter, but A. Thomas starting is better than Wire starting at LB or not having another CB TE FB/WR/S This does not mean that we will draft in this order but these are the team needs. I would not be surprised if we do not draft a WR at all either day 1 or day 2. Definitely no Day 1 WR. My opinion.
  4. OK, I hate trade down mocks, but here goes: 1 (12). Pick 12 comes and Willis and Peterson are both gone. Call up A.J. Smith and pull the trigger on Turner / Pick 30 for Pick 12 / Next Year's 3rd rounder 1 (30). Jon Beason (OLB) 2 (43). David Harris (ILB) 3a. Daymeion Hughes (CB) 3b. Manuel Ramirez (OG) 2nd day used to find gems for: TE (I like Derek Shouman from Boise St. late), WR, FB, S
  5. No, this is not what I was saying. In fact, I think the chance of picking corner round 1 is unlikely, but I wouldn't be going crazy like some if they did. I think it's more likely we use one of the 3rd round picks to get a corner. I personally like A.J. Davis from NC State and Daymeion Hughes from Cal. I like Hughes a little more - he has slow 40 times which will make him drop a little but he's a real ball hawk and instinctive. McGee is not really a cover 2 corner either which is why he is struggling in the system. I think if there is one thing I learned from last year is that Marv will use the following to make each pick: A. What kind of person (character) is the player? Is he a team guy or a Willis McGahee? (willis-types need not apply) B. Does he fit our system? C. What are his measurables? (combine numbers) So when I see posts that say "let's draft him...he ran a 4.3"...well to me that player is only meeting criteria C and only Marv knows if he is also meeting A and B in the first place to be considered.
  6. I think Dillon will end up in TN. Fisher is arrogant enough to think he can deal with Dillon for a couple of years. They probably think they are closer to the playoffs than they really are (if they watch ESPN) and will go with the older player. Just my hunch but I see Dillon fitting there. I don't see Turner fitting there.
  7. I like the trade, I just don't like the pick of Houston. Seen a few posters picking him and I don't understand it that well. Yes he is a high rated corner, but is a press corner ideally. (Same with Ross...both corners you like don't fit our system) When Marv picks his corner, I think he will go for one of the prospects who best fit the cover 2: Leon Hall Darrelle Revis Daymeion Hughes Tanard Jackson A.J. Davis
  8. Hey, I LOVE your draft but on this board you do need to recognize the sarcasm to survive
  9. I agree with Oz and disco. Everything seems to be so upset with this....but if Marv does it on draft day by sticking to his board, it should be fine? In other words, if Marv ranks the prospects like this: Adrian Peterson Patrick Willis Michael Turner POZ Marshawn Lynch Then at pick#12 when Peterson and Willis are gone, what's so wrong with picking Turner. Only "picking" him means that we swap our firsts with SD and maybe give up a third next year. We still have another first late in the round for someone like POZ, Rufus Alexander or Jon Beason to fall to us in the LB dept. and the rest of our picks this year to continue building the team through the draft like I agree we should. As for him being 25 years old and already needing to be paid, yes these are downsides a bit but offset as another poster indicated by the fact that we have NFL film on the guy and we know he can play in this league. What if we reach for POZ or Lynch and they turn out to be Broderick Bunkley's, who half this board wanted us to pick last year?? I just agree that folks should not be surprised if this thing goes through...
  10. I agree. I keep seeing these posts where people think we are going to get Turner for just a third. This is not happening. I too have a dream draft scenario that starts with getting Turner but it goes more like this: The #12 pick comes up and Willis and Peterson are both gone. We pick up the phone and pull the trigger on a trade with the Chargers that we had pre-negotiated beforehand: Swap first round picks and give them a third rounder in 2008 for Turner. Before everyone jumps on me, this is what it will take. The Chargers want a first and third for Turner or they will keep him. This years first (we are essentially drafting Turner with our first pick) and next year's third is not bad as long as the first rounders are swapped. Then we go something like this: 1 (pick 30 from chargers): Puz or Rufus Alexander 2 David Harris 3a Daymeion Hughes 3b Manuel Ramirez With this scenario the Chargers get a first and third like they want but because of the swap of this year's first, we don't really lose any picks, we just move back in the first and pick up Turner. We lose a third next year but we had an extra one so it's not too painful. Anyway, that's my dream scenario. You see I like most of your players I just feel getting the chargers to take a third for Turner is unrealistic.
  11. I always figured our safety net against the Falcons going RB was Landry...but now I am starting to think with the Archuleta move that the Redskins scoop up Landry before the Falcons. This will leave the Falcons choosing between one of the DLs (Branch, Anderson, Okoye), some of whom are slipping a little and Peterson. I do worry that they will have Peterson higher on their board and grab him. I agree that the Texans no longer worry me as much. I think they are targetting either Levi Brown or Ted Ginn with their pick now. If gone they would probably move over to defense before grabbing Peterson. I also agree that we might see Peterson sneak through all of the way to the 49ers and then see them trade the pick to Green Bay because the 49ers could choose any one of several defensive pieces and moving back to 16 probably doesn't hurt them all that much. I think they would like to get Carriker if they can, especially if Willis is gone (expect Willis to now go in the top 10 - possibly 4 to Bucs if Calvin Johnson is gone).
  12. From NFL.com's 2002 draft analysis (seems about the age player Marv likes to bring in...3 or 4 years experience): ANALYSIS Positives: Has a thick, compact frame with solid arms, hips and thighs … Has the short-area explosiveness to gain advantage on the defender as a lead blocker … Shows the strong forearms needed to sustain his blocks in pass protection and delivers a crunching hand punch to jolt his man back … Very light on his feet, displaying good acceleration to the perimeter … quick to get out front and cut block the linebackers on the move. Negatives: More of a straight-line runner, showing poor hip snap and wiggle … Lacks the ability to find the rush lanes, as he tends to run with his head down, which results in balance problems … Does not have the leg drive needed to consistently break tackles … Shows no explosion when getting to the second level (loses steam past the line of scrimmage) … Will sometimes get careless running with the ball and needs to do a better job of shifting the pigskin away from the defender … Shows overall body stiffness trying to adjust to the ball in passing situations, as he rarely opens his hips … More of a body catcher who fights for the ball too much due to poor hands … Works well as a lead blocker, but does not pick up the blitz properly, appearing helpless as he stands around due to poor play recognition … Loses his balance quite a bit running to the outside … May be too top-heavy to maintain a proper leg base. CAREER NOTES Co-captain who is big, strong, tough, talented and packs a wallop when he hits, whether carrying the ball or clearing the way for one of the tailbacks … A complete football player and one of the most underrated players on the team … Has been used chiefly as a blocker throughout his career, but is also regarded as a fine receiver … Build is in the mold of some of the great Ohio State fullbacks of the past … Finished his career with 61 carries for 226 yards (4.0 avg) and four touchdowns in 47 games (29 starts) … Caught 22 passes for 211 yards (9.6 avg) and a pair of scores. Linky The things I liked: - Co-captain who is big, strong, tough, talented and packs a wallop when he hits, whether carrying the ball or clearing the way for one of the tailbacks - also regarded as a fine receiver ...and not so much... - More of a body catcher who fights for the ball too much due to poor hands - Works well as a lead blocker, but does not pick up the blitz properly, appearing helpless as he stands around due to poor play recognition
  13. About to sign up, then I saw the password. No, I will never type that. What is everyone so jealous of?
  14. Actually, no, I don't think they are going to necessarily get a starter in the third. Or the second. Anthony Thomas is the starter right now. I don't think any back except possibly Michaeal Bush drafted after the first is going to start for us right now. The draft is not that strong in backs. I certainly know that Irons is not going to start ahead of Thomas. Maybe Hunt, but even that I doubt.
  15. Personally, I think more and more that the 2nd round pick is earmarked for Daymeion Hughes, CB, Cal if he lasts. Round 3 is more where I see the RB being taken. I don't think the Bills will take Irons...if they do they would want to see if he lasts until the third. Hunt is a possibility but again I think they will wait to see what's there in the third. All this changes if Peterson is by some miracle there in the 1st round but I doubt it. I think 1st round will boil down to Okoye, Branch or Willis in that order. I expect one of the DTs to slide through to us. I would then peg the first three rounds as 1. DT 2. Daymeion Hughes (perfect cover 2 corner) 3a. RB 3b. Zak DeOssie, LB, Brown (more I read about this guy and how he is also a long snapper and a great special teams player the more I think we will pick him and do it early to make sure we get him).
  16. I don't see Atlanta going RB at all in the 1st round. In fact, trying to project the top 10, to me they are one of the easiest because they need safety help so bad (pretty much every team that has Lawyer Milloy realizes how bad he is and drafts a safety the next year...) so I think they are a lock to pick Laron Landry. People think just because Cleveland picked up Jamal Lewis that they are not going to draft Peterson but that is a joke. They gave Lewis a 1 year contract and have no other solution when that expires. Also, Ahman Green is 30 and not the long term solution for the Texans, so even if Peterson gets past the Browns he won't get past the Texans. They will pick him for sure after the Reggie Bush fiasco last year. As for trading for Ladel Betts, that sounds good at the right price. He'd be a perfect fit for the system in my opinion but I wouldn't want to give up too much for him.
  17. NFL Network is replaying select games from Week 1 of last season as we speak. Apparently they are going to do this every Sunday for a few months. Right now (2 PM) Jax vs. Cowboys but at 4 PM the Bills / Patriots game is supposed to be on. I am enjoying the college basketball but won't be able to resist watching at least a bit..
  18. Shhhh...don't let anybody else know! Yes, I like this kid a lot. His big negative is he does not get good grades for blocking. But he is a good hard runner and good receiver out of the backfield. I really think we need to spend at least the first 2 picks on defensive holes so finding a gem in the 3rd round is going to paramount at the RB position. This guy could be it.
  19. Sorry I do not have a link or video. I did not see this posted yet... Yesterday on NFL Total Access on NFL Network they counted down the top 10 WR performances of last year. As they were getting to #1, they still had not included Lee's 265 yard performance against the Texans amd I am thinking "here we go, they are going to short change him..." But as it turns out they rated him #1. Not a big deal, I know, but it's nice to see a little recognition. It was nice to see the highlights of those two 83-yarders again too!
  20. After the combine he had, absolutely no way he makes it out of the 1st round. None. If he did, while he would be tempting....no, we need to be picking RB, CB, LB or DT in the first few rounds
  21. Weird...didn't they just decide to not cut L. Jordan and restructure his contract? I guess Rhodes is insurance?
  22. I tried to work this out myself as well over the past 24 hours and don't think I could bring myself to do it. (on a similar note...what if A. Peterson is there at pick 8...do we trade one of our other first day picks to move up and grab him?) I come to the same answer on both questions: The Bills need 4 positons on day 1 (in order) - CB, LB, RB, DT - we now have 4 picks on day 1 to get that done. But if we trade a pick to fill one of those spots then we have to face not filling one of those positions until day 2. What other need on the defense do you choose to ignore to get this done? About the only way I see doing this is if we could swing a trade that involves a pick this year and one next year. I think if we keep our picks this year (for the most part), we won't have as many holes next year and will be in really good shape. So I would consider trading my first this year and my second next year for Turner (I know...it sounds crazy, but I might do it if I have a high enough grade on him). This would leave me my second and two thirds this year to still get CB, LB, DT and the first round pick would essentially be Turner. Next year I would regret losing my 2nd rounder but at least I have an extra third now from the Ravens to make up for it.
  23. But the issue is that no matter what happened this year he was gone anyway with no compensation: 1 - if he had a bad year again, we were going to let him walk rather than giving him the big contract he was looking for 2 - if he had a GREAT contract year, he would have asked for so much money (like Nate) we would not have been able to keep him anyway Sure we could franchise him, but that just creates a Lance Briggs-type situation where everyone is unhappy. So regardless of all of the other reasons why (offseason workouts, being an idiot, not being into the team), the best move is to get compensation for him now.
  24. I have been a Patrick Willis guy all along, but now suddenly with this trade I am turning back into an Okoye guy if he is there: 1 (12) - Amobi Okoye, DT Louisville 2 (43) - Michael Bush, RB Louisville 2 (61) - Daymeion Hughes, CB, California - he runs a slow 40 and is dropping, but perfect for cover 2. I think he can be had at the end of the 2nd 3 (74) - Quincy Black, OLB New Mexico - fast, high character OLB 4 (107) - Zak DeOssie, ILB, Brown - this is probably the one player I am day dreaming on 6 (169) - Le'Ron McClain, FB Alabama 7 (203) - Take your pick looking for a TE, backup SS, another CB or possibly a WR This is a draft full of high character, high intangible players that fit our schemes and are all "Bills" (unlike McGahee, who never really was one)
  25. This is an absolutely perfect description for the average Dolfelons player. I was actually worried that the Cameron hire was a good one and the culture there would change to a winning one but I see that to not be the case with the signing of this old, under-performing player.
