  1. Langston Walker is the new RG. Pennington will be given the chance to continue at RT. He played well for a rookie last year.
  2. I agree, and based on yesterday's moves I think Patrick Willis is almost guaranteed to be the pick: 1. I am sure Okoye is intriguing and a lot of people on this board want him picked but the fact is that Marv invested in DT with a couple of picks last year including a first rounder and I doubt he will pick another DT 2. Because no CBs will probably be off the board when the Bills pick and because of the reduced importance of the position in the cover 2, Bills will wait to fill that hole 3. That leaves MLB as the biggest hole and we need an attacking player to come in and play right away. I sort of like Zak DeOssie too at the position in this draft but do I really think he can play right away? No...but hopefully Willis can come in and play right away
  3. There goes the FB I wanted. I live in Atlanta and I am sure Blank threw his checkbook at another guy again. He's almost as bad as Snyder. Anyway supposedly the guy fits Petrino's desire for a bulldozer FB perfectly. Maybe we should go after Falcon's castoff J. Griffith after all...
  4. "8 figure signing bonus" says we could not have afforded him anyway.
  5. Plummer just got traded to the Bucs for a mid round pick (4th was reported)....this gives Denver an extra pick so that they might not be so concerned trading their third to us for McGahee (though I wouldn't want the 4th)
  6. Exactly what I want! Personally I like the value of drafting Bush or Hunt in the second over Lynch in the first. I know a lot of people like Lynch but I would rather fill a defensive hole in the first and then draft a solid RB in the second to repliace Willis. Linky
  7. Not an expert here...but I saw an interview with Gary Kubiak the other day and he said WR and OT were particularly deep. If you think about WR...with C. Johnson, D. Jarrett, T Ginn, D. Bowe, A. Gonazalez are all 1st round possibilities it sort of reminds me of the year Moulds came out and there were several other good WRs going in the 1st like Marvin Harrison
  8. Personally, I am pulling for Patrick Willis as our Round 1 choice. I know every wants someone along the lines but I would like to sign Ian Scott to address the DT problem and then I would like to see guards picked in rounds 2 and 3. Maybe Blaylock or Grubbs in Round 2 and Manny Ramirez in Round 3. If we fill a lot of needs with mid-level free agents then it frees up the draft to focus on OL and MLB. Although I did link to that guy from Brown and he is intriguing...
  9. I wanted to jump over here and post this yesterday but I did not get the chance. Did anyone else see Baltimore FB Ovie Mughelli on Cold Pizza yesterday? I liked him, and he struck me as Marv's type of player. If we go after a FB in free agency, I am thinking this should be the guy. He has developed into a good pass catcher out of the backfield in addition to being a fine lead blocker (I have seen the phrase "punishing lead blocker" thrown around...I haven't seen him play enough to claim that, but I do remember him being pretty good). What's more, he seemed like a real bright, team guy to me (my opinion)...and if last year is a clue he has that "Marv free agent" look to him - 4 year guy just coming into his own and up for his 1st contract. We would have to give him some money, but not "break the bank". Anybody else see this guy yesterday? Thoughts?
  10. Considering the state of our team, I would make the trade. Doesn't really matter what round the draft pick is, but I'd of course like to get something better than 7th round. I feel Nall should be given the shot at backup - he played well enough and don't forget the money we are paying him is not bad either. Then we should pick up another young QB to serve as #3. Let's face it, this is a young team and having a veteran QB at this point means what? Here are some young QBs that are out there after the roster cuts: Dave Ragone (cut by Rams) - real strong arm, lots of potential Brian St. Pierre (cut by Ravens) Stefan Lefors (cut by Panthers) - very smart, heady player Brett Basanez (cut by Panters) - another good prospect from the Carolina system J.T O'Sullivan (cut by Vikings) - probably has had his chances already, but at one time was a good prospect. Might be a little too "veteran" right now. Bryan Randall (cut by Falcons) - lots of tools Omar Jacobs (cut by Steelers) - would be like an extra draft flier These are some of the ones I like more than Holcomb on my roster, anyway.
  11. I keep watching the Rams QB situation. If they release Ryan Fitzpatrick, I would think serious thought would have to be given to picking him up. I liked what I saw of him in limited action last year, and he knows Fairchild's system. Also he is Ivy league, if you believe there's anything to that with two Ivy's running the show. FWIW, salary cap issues aside, I would sure prefer to have him than Holcomb myself.
  12. WARNING! The guide on DirecTV says the game broadcast at NOON on Aug. 22 will be Browns at Eagles. This past Saturday this same discrepancy existed and the game on the GUIDE, not the one on the internet, was the one that was shown. I suggest those of us with NFL Network wanting to see the game vote for it to be broadcast Tuesday night, otherwise I bet we will not see it at all.
  13. Strengths: Has tremendous size and a big frame...Is a major threat in the red zone...Is underrated athletically...Good leaper who knows how to go up and get the ball...Has big, strong, reliable hands...Will make the acrobatic catch...Physical and knows how to use his body...Tough player who is more than willing to go over the middle...Solid route runner...Intangibles are top notch...Very productive. Weaknesses: May not always play up to his timed speed...Is not very quick...Isn't an explosive athlete...Could have trouble getting separation against pro defensive backs...Probably won't be a major deep threat at the pro level...Will lose focus at times...Has missed some time due to injury...If he doesn't run well in workouts teams may downgrade his upside to that of a #2 or possession receiver. Notes: Had a monster season in 2003 (90 rec. for 1,498 yards and 11 touchdowns) as Ben Roethlisberger's main target...Missed most of the 2004 season with an ACL injury to his left knee...Based on size, speed and production this guy has just about everything you look for and is potentially a #1 receiver at the next level.
  14. Top 50 Undrafted ( http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com ). #1!!! Good job Marv! 1. Martin Nance, WR, Miami (OH) 2. Spencer Havner, OLB, U.C.L.A. 3. Kai Parham, ILB, Virginia 4. Cooper Wallace, TE, Auburn 46. Justin Holland, QB, Colorado St. 47. Barrick Nealy, QB, Texas St. 48. John Busing, OLB, Miami (OH) 49. Scott Ware, S, Southern Cal 50. Manase Hopoi, DT, Washington
  15. If that's the choice, I'll take on of the guards, Jean-Gilles first and Matua second. But I would look at OT also - J. Scott or R. O'Callaghan
  16. Either OL or DL seems like the best value. From NFLDraftCountdown: 1. Gabe Watson, DT, Michigan 2. Darnell Bing, S, Southern Cal 3. Ko Simpson, S, South Carolina 4. Jonathan Scott, OT, Texas 5. Max Jean-Gilles, OG, Georgia 6. Jonathan Lewis, DT, Virginia Tech 7. Demetrius Williams, WR, Oregon 8. Ryan O'Callaghan, OT, California 9. Rodrique Wright, DT, Texas 10. Mark Anderson, DE, Alabama Everyone in this list would make some sense except probably the WR. I like the bold ones the most.
  17. From his Bio on bb.com: Full name: Tutankhamen Marqués Reyes. ....resulting in the easiest nickname on the Bills Say hello to King Tut!
  18. OK so all along I've had an issue with the value of taking Bunkley at #8. I've been an advocate of taking Huff instead because he's "worth" that spot. So I might be coming around to liking Bunkley a little more. BUT - if we want him, there should be no reason to stay at #8 (unless of course no one wants to trade with us). We should trade with either 11 Rams - they want Cutler 12 Browns - they want Ngata 13 Ravens - not sure but they might want Ngata too 14 Eagles - I think they want Ngata too Here's the deal, if we trade with any of these teams I do not see Bunkley getting taken until it gets back around to us. Take the worst case, that we trade with the Eagles: 1 Texans - Bush 2 Saints - Williams 3 Titans - Leinart 4 Jets - Ferguson 5 Packers - Hawk 6 49ers - V. Davis 7 RaidersV. Young 8 Eagles - Ngata 9 Lions - Huff 10 Cards - Possibly Bunkley but much more likely Cutler / E. Sims 11 Rams - Cutler or Defensive Back 12 Browns - with Ngata gone, pass rushing OLB (E. Sims or Wmbley) 13 Ravens - with Ngata gone, possibly Bunkley but much more likely W. Justice or Defensive Back 14 Bills - Bunkley So we get the same player we got at #8 and even if we only get a 3rd rounder, we get value and the same player. If by some chance we lose out on Bunkley there is always W. Justice or Greenway. If we trade with the Rams or Browns we are virutally guaranteed Bunkley, IMO. Trade down Marv!
  19. No....QB would not even be on my draft board if I were Marv unless it were a slash-type player I expected to play elsewhere for me. I see no purpose in drafting someone like Whitehurst in the mid rounds and definitely no QB on day 1. This draft should be used to address our other needs and we go into the season with the two young QBs and KH as 3rd string. We let this year play out and if these guys stink so be it we will probably have a very high pick next year and be in line for a Brady Quinn if we decide Nall and Losman will not be our future.
  20. Actually I am getting more excited this will be possible. Scenarios where D'Brick is available to us at #8: Scenario 1 - Reggie Bush shocker based on this blog: http://www.thehuddlereport.com/NickelPacka...BLog4.20.06.htm Texans - M. Williams (read above to find out why) Saints - Hawk Titans - Leinart Jets - R. Bush Packers - Huff/Ngata 49ers - V. Davis Raiders - V. Young Bills - D'Brick!!! Scenario 2 - QBs always go high based on the fact that whenever there are 2 QBs near the top like this year (Young / Leinart), they always seem to go early Texans - R. Bush Jets (or someone) trades to this spot - V. Young / Leinart Titans - V. Young / Leinart Saints (from Jets) - Hawk Packers - M. Williams 49ers - V. Davis Raiders - Huff (with QBs gone they decide to go for Huff) Bills - D' Brick!!! The idea is I keep hearing that the Saints really want Hawk when all is said and done and I am also assuming that Packers will pick Defense 49ers are a lock to get Davis over D'Brick due to the money they spent on J. Jennings Raiders will pick either QB or Huff based on recent pick of R. Gallery A lot of assumptions I know....but I can dream!
  21. I'm starting to believe that the Saints might take Ferguson. After trading their tackle to the Falcons they are lacking and they just signed Brees to a big contract. Gonna hafta protect him now... There's your wrench if it happens. The next several teams have to at least think about changing their plans and looking at Williams....which potentially pushes someone else down. Of course if the Jets take Williams then it is potentially the same draft just Ferguson at 2 and Williams at 4 instead of vice versa.
  22. Agreed. Everytime I look at DT in the first rd even though it is a glaring need I see the same thing: 1st round pick on a question mark or 2nd round pick on a player nearly as good (or better perhaps?) who fits our system. I don't see going the DT route in the 1st round: D'Brick, Hawk, Huff or Justice (in that order) sound better to me.
  23. Easy!! Losman by a mile. Alex Smith does not have the arm strength to be an NFL QB and will be out of the league in a few years. Losman may or may not ever come around to be great, but at least he has a chance. Smith has no chance. He has Pennington's arm strength without his field awareness, which is a deadly combo. All IMO, of course.
  24. In case you missed it, Mel Kiper on Mike & Mike this morning went over his mock draft, which most of you have probably seen with all of the ESPN coverage goes like this: 1. Bush 2. M. Williams 3. Leinart 4. D'Brick 5. Hawk 6. V. Davis 7. V. Young 8. Bunkley to us The interesting part was that he said that he had another mock draft that was not published that had the Titans picking Young instead of Leinart, which he said is a real possibility. He went over this draft and if I heard him right, goes like this: 1. Bush 2. M. Williams 3. V. Young 4. Leinart 5. Hawk 6. V. Davis 7. Huff 8. ???? So basically he said if the Titans pick Young then of course the Jets pick Leinart. The next few are the same but when it gets to the Raiders and Young is gone they probably consider Huff. Unless I heard him wrong this leaves D'Brick for us ????
