Although the modern diesel engine can run on plant-based diesel, it generally voids the car's warranty. VW makes the most used consumer diesel engine and you have to use petrol diesel with a grade of XX% or the warranty is void. BMW makes a killer diesel car in its 3 series. 0-60 in 5 seconds. 35MPG. But alas, no manual transmission.

That car is for midgets. I tried to sit in one at the car show and could only laugh. Only 6-2 and not overwight. It's a small-person's car.

How to find 100M in savings in the federal budget
John Adams replied to John Adams's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I am not laughing. I'm crying. The fcking government's job #2, after service, should be saving money. Doublesided copying is 1990. Turning off unused phone lines is 1940. Unnecessarily painting jeeps is just plain sensible. Those stupid things were just done in a few departments and saved 100M. The government could sneeze and save 10B. -
Harvard Scholar Arrested for Being Black
John Adams replied to Fingon's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
You're a douche. QED. Please yell at the next cop who shows up at your house for any reason and then start shouting at your neighbors too. I hope I'm on your jury because you'll be guilty of not only disorderly conduct and the like, but also being a dickhead. Don't you think police have a few more things to deal with in a given day than some guy shouting at them when they are trying to do their job? Can you picture a world where everyone was allowed to scream at the police without repurcussions? Didn't think so. Because such a world doesn't work. Gates was treated the way he should be. An arrest to shut his dumb piehole and charges dropped. -
Harvard Scholar Arrested for Being Black
John Adams replied to Fingon's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
You know what? If you yell at a cop and call him a racist and shout to others to try to embarrass the cop, you should get arrested. Probably not charged (Which he wasn't) but yes to arrested. Why? Because on general principle, you're being a jerkoff to a person who's just trying to do his job...but can also arrest you. BTW, when you're a !@#$head to a waiter and the waiter hocks a lougie in your food, it's also justified. -

Harvard Scholar Arrested for Being Black
John Adams replied to Fingon's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I don't know. Based on that news, the opposite might be true. The officer says he talked to Whalen who said the people breaking in were black. Whalen says she said no such thing. Who knows? I am 100% sure that I don't care about this specific situation. Sometimes police lie. Sometimes people play the persecuted card. -
Charlie Coiner: " Shawn Nelson is lost"
John Adams replied to Pitta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rookie WRs (which he essentially is) are often zero impact. For a guy who hasn't blocked much, it's even harder to learn to block as well. I don't expect to see Nelson a lot this year on offense. Probably 2-3 downs a game where his role is extremely clear. He won't even get Hardy's game time. -
He fired a gun in a crowded dance club. The consequence of his action (he shot himself) was minimal. The possible consequences (someone else gets show) are serious. Go to jail. As to the disparity between sentencing for gun crimes and DUIs, I agree that the disparity shouldn't exist. But the way to correct it is not to lower the penalty for firing a gun in a crowded place.

America's Ten Fastest Dying Cities!
John Adams replied to PearlHowardman's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The third world pop skyrockets. In the developed world, most populations are on the decline. The US population is holding steady because of immigrants. -
English adapts. It's one of its beauties. @Dean: the -us does not take an "i" to form a plural except in Latin. "Octopi" is one of those idiotic non-words that through tons of misusage is now in some dictionaries. It's made all the less sensible by the fact that octopus is a Greek word. Properly pluralized in its native language, it would be octopodes (sp). In English, plurals for words ending in s are made with an es. So ignoramus-->ignoramuses. For those who get boners over grammar and usage, I suggest the only reference you'll ever need: http://www.amazon.com/Garners-Modern-Ameri...r/dp/0195161912 That ref is great but a new edition is coming out in August in case you want to hold out. I am hoping it tackles the long-overdue topic of single space after a period vs double space. (Single is proper unless you are on a typewriter or use a monotype font.) I'm guessing Garner will dodge that topic though because it's less a usage question than a typesetting one.

Because he's raising taxes and cutting a few other things? How about we just cut a few things and be 100% sure the deficit doesn't go up instead of wish and hope it doesn't go up--while also taking money out of people's pockets?

Obama Continues to Dismantle Millitary
John Adams replied to AlaskaDarin_Has_AIDS's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Hmm. Does it occur to you that the Republicans often interpret the first amendment as a living breathing amendment? All the moral standards controls come to mind. -
A great Nike ad counterprogramming campaign is on the way. I predict a series of shakey cam commercials of LeBron getting beat by kids in various games.
-
My wife keeps pointing out that Obama walks just like me. I think it's a basketball thing. I know a lot of hoopsters who move like that.
-
That's it? I thought the kid burned him one on one or something. In that clip, LeBron just looks a bit slow getting over to help...and also not interested in flying into the face of a kid and making a ton of contact in a pickup game. BFD.

Obama Continues to Dismantle Millitary
John Adams replied to AlaskaDarin_Has_AIDS's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Your in a community populated by people who are harsh to each other in argument, but have some standards. When the molson_goldens, Rich in Ohios, and others post garbage and add nothing to the place, they sometimes get the boot. Sounds like you've been put on notice. That's all. As to your question about the sig, who knows? But this isn't the Range. If you want to muck up all the threads with huge signatures, go over there. -
Why isn't Joe Cribbs on Wall of Fame?
John Adams replied to Solomon Grundy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I posted the receptions stats to show you were wrong--when someone says they are "quite certain" of something but are in fact incorrect, it's good to set the record staraight. I posted the remaining stats to show how much better TT was than Cribbs, since that is the topic this thread seems to be discussing. There's a reason his moves are the 5th day of Christmas. For a short window, Cribbs was a very good RB. -

Why isn't Joe Cribbs on Wall of Fame?
John Adams replied to Solomon Grundy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Your "quite sure" feeling would be dead wrong. Thurman had 60 and 62 reception seasons in his first 4 years...and a 49. In those same 4 years (including his first part-time year), TT had 39 TDs, and 6800 yards from scrimmage. So even in his first 4 years, Cribbs...as good as he was in that stretch...was not as good as TT in any category. After those 4 years of course, TT was a top back for another 4 years. -
Bruce Smith vs Reggie White
John Adams replied to jax bill backer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
White was better. Bruce was more exciting. Bruce ran himself past every third play with his outside pass rush. White was more of a power rusher and thus wasn't running past the play as much. The only people who think Bruce is better are Bills fans. That should tell you something. Plus, White played against some unreal competition in the NFC East in that era and still dominated. Bruce, OTOH, got 17 sacks of hapless Ken O'Brien and a bunch more of immobile Drew Bledsoe and Jeff George.
