  1. Not sure what you mean here. I agree, it will be somewhat sad from a sentimental point of view to no longer see the Shuttle go up, since we will never see it's like again. However, this is 1960's technology here, and they have served thier purpose and outlived thier usefulness. It could be reasonably argued that the ISS project was designed specifically to give the Shuttle something to do. What we need is something to take it's place, but we don't have good direction right now, either from the Fed or NASA...
  2. Acknowledged, but I was more taken aback by the fact that Billy didn't at least wait till the game was over...
  3. terrible. All the logos the same? Even worse...
  4. we've been discussing this issue over in the PPP thread. Ares really did suck and had no chance of working with the budget and plan they had. Best case is that they do what they should have done in 2004, and greenlight some form of DIRECT HLV capability...
  5. I immediately thought that both Jacob and his "brother" are beings who continually resurrect into new bodies when they die to continue their struggles. This spring facillitates this process. It is highly possible that they have both done this several times, and the the men we know as Jacob and his nemesis (should be call him Esau?) are past visitors to the island that were possessed by the White and the Black? Does it also follow that while Esau is the smoke (aka monster, or evil, black presence), the animated dead people seen throughout the series (boone, walt, christian) are manifestations of Jacob (white, the light, good) trying to help the islanders? Seeing the island underwater also, for some reason, made me think of Walt appearing to Shannon soaking wet...
  6. Sayid isn't here Mrs. Torrance...
  7. Hey, I think we added a new adjective to the TBD lexicon. Ok, not as good as Retatta, but still...
  8. This is a key point, they could loot the hell out of whoever they conquered...
  9. hahaha, what a !@#$ing dumbass!!!! I agree, it would be infinitely easier to obtain radioactive material elsewhere, but I felt compelled to point out the inherent dumbass-idness in claiming that we shouldn't build nuclear power plants because a terrorist might want to attack it...
  10. In addition to thier excellent safety record, I would add that I am a bit skeptical on the argument that anti-nuclear groups throw around that these facilites are an easy target for terrorists to exploit. My older brother is an engineer for one of the reactors at a plant near Cleveland, and he says that it would be suicide for anyone to think they can just waltz in and do as they please. He says there are armed guards (I think they are private contractors, not miliatry) with automatic weapons ready to blow your head off if proper procedures are not followed. While this is only ONE plant out of approximately 100 in the mainland US, I do not buy the anti-nuclear argument that is thrown out there that the terrorists can easily obtain nuclear materials for terror weapons...
  11. He's right. I am too lazy to look up the stats, but I seem to remember that our defense was ranked near the bottom of the league during the SB years. Lori? Also, in regards to Leon Seals pancaking the Hoss, I still can't believe that he got up from that hit. That was super nasty and I thought he was a goner for sure...
  12. I agree, but again, unless you were AT the Cape that day, you did NOT see the accident happen live. The feed cut away after lift-off to a commericial, and when it came back the SRBs were flying in all directions from the fireball. Most everyone saw the endless replays. That being said, a number of schools were watching the launch and subsequent coverage live, especially in NE where the school teacher was from...
  13. Agreed, however, if anything, Challenger showed that NO space flight is ever routine, despite what NASA management would have everyone believe...
  14. Well, Thanks! Good to know my annoying hobby (at least this is what my wife tells me) is good for something. Also, while many people around the world did in fact see the lift-off live (due to the presence of the Teacher in Space), nearly NO ONE actually witnessed the actual accident live, as the live feed went to a commercial at the time. About the only people who actually saw the accident live were at the Cape that day...
  15. Nitpicking, I know, but Challenger did not "explode", rather, the aerodynamic forces at the time the external tank came apart essentially ripped the shuttle to pieces. And the flame plume from the right SRB did not ignite the liquid fuel in the tank, it burned through the aft strut holding the SRB to the tank. When the strut gave way, the SRB swung upwards, impacting the forward dome of the ET, causing it to fail. The big fireball seen was a conflagration caused by the combustion of the liquid H2 and O2 in the tank. As far as the launches go, you can call in to try and get passes at the visitor center, but they go, really, really fast. And the view is not so good from what I hear. You can check out the causeway in Titusville, but it gets mega crowded, go early. PM me for some more details if you wish...
  16. This is not a big surprise at all. Although, if we are not going to go outside of LEO, what is the point of even HAVING the capability for manned space flight? Other than keeping lots of people employed...
  17. Says really all there is to say. A wonderful production by MaxQ Entertainment... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKEbuJpJAMM www.maxqent.com
  18. Was that the tailgate shirt from this year?
  19. Warren Haynes. George Harrison was very, very Under-rated IMO...
  20. I said the same thing to my wife yesterday as well. Sweet hat...
  21. Dropped it last year actually. Absolutely NO plans to pick it back up. I've got better things to do, namely spend time with my 15 month old son, than pay 400 bucks to get kicked in the ballz every Sunday. Life's too short folks. Make the plunge, it will set you free...
  22. hahahahah! That was money!!!!
  23. Hurricanes do pretty well at RBC. Some late arrivals, but generally good attendence even when the team is on hard times, like this year. No where near what that place in Atlanta looked like last night. And I seem to remember a few empty seats for the Tampa and Florida games as well...
  24. Haven't seen that movie I take it?
  25. Maybe we should compromise and count them as 3/5ths of a person. I think that would work!
