One team being overlooked in Arkansas. 9-1 overall, 6-0 in the SEC. They have LSU in a few weeks, so if they win that game, and win the SEC championship, i think you need to give them serious consideration for the title game. ps - arkansas' only loss came at the hands of USC...hafta give them credit for having the brutal SEC schedule, then scheduling USC as a non-conf game. Ed - rutgers is decent, but they dont deserve the #3 spot. they deserve it as much as boise state does. rutgers should be in the top 10, but i dont think they are top 5 even. Theres no way rutgers can hang with the big dogs (and no, louisville and WVU are not big dogs). in an 8 team playoff, they get the 7 or 8 seed, and would be promptly be blown out by ohio st or michigan.

I'd have a problem with florida getting in! And not just because i am an FSU homer. I've seen a lot fo florida this year, and the team just doesnt look that good. Their only loss (so far, until Nov 25th) was against a good auburn team, but in a lot of their games, they havent looked championship quality. I guess you could say that about a lot of teams, but florida just hasnt looked very spectacular this season. If they win out are they top 5? definitely. Top 2, Methinks otherwise.

the whole arguement in this thread is that holcombs arm is claiming that error causes regression toward the mean, not the normal distribution. He claims that he's right, and 3+ published scientists on this board, thousands others elsewhere, and mainstream math is wrong.

In a few weeks at my prospectus defense, i should explain to my committee that my data from the second trials i ran is correct, because error is eliminated automatically in the second test, and i will tell them that my data isnt bad, its regressing toward the mean due to error and see what they say. I'm guessing i will get laughed out of grad school.

you cannot get a mathematical average, or mean, using discrete values/variables. You cannot assign an average value to a die roll, because it is a probability. There is no !@#$ing error in a die roll! According to you, i can pick my alphabet letters, and i should expect an average letter value of M, but i may have an error value of G or X. If being stupid was a crime, you would have been put to death a long long time ago.

By betting $30.50 and regressing your bet towards the mean due to error and chance (since they are obviously the same thing), it means that you'll win whatever on top of your $30.50 bet, but lose only $20. So heres our plan. We go to vegas, and say at blackjack, we bet $30.50. If we win and it pays out 2:1, we win $61. But if we lose, we only lose $20, and still come out with $10.50 in our pocket. Then we use this extra money, take it to the craps table, and hit the jackpot big time when someone hits 7 by rolling double 3.5's. We're gonna be rich!
