  1. See that's where I've had my biggest issue with the way college football has done things. I've always HATED the fact that you basically take out the underdog factor when you restrict the championship game to only the teams with unblemished regular season records. If you look at other sports, you'll often see teams that are seeded lower, but they rise to the occasion to win a championship. That's just more in-line with how I view a champion....a team who can rise up when it's all on the line and be the very best on that day. If the NFL used the collegiate system, there would be several super bowl champions that would have gone uncrowned just in the last 10 or 15 seasons. The story of the underdog is one of the biggest - maybe THE biggest - aspects of sports that I love. I do feel this is a step in the right direction, and I really wish this was starting sooner rather than later, but I do hope they revisit this format earlier than 12 years from now and consider expanding the system just a bit more.
  2. You know it. For patients I don't like, I head over to the ER and grab the 16 gauge needle...say hello to my LIL' FRIEND!!
  3. Well that majorly sucks. I didn't get to see the match, but sounds like, as James said, the guy was hitting some bombs. That's the thing about Wimbledon more than any other major...if you are a tall guy and show up with a huge serve, you can find success here. Goran Ivanisovic had a very limited game, but every year at Wimbledon he would show up and just start dropping service bombs all over people. Mark Philopousis (sp?) was another example. Not a great all-around game, but he can serve up some monsters. Roddick is a better all-around player with a big serve, but he doesn't have it upstairs. Anyway, this is really a bummer...I just hope someone takes out Federer.
  4. I know, right? Yes, I agree...you guys have our number, for sure. You pretty much dominated us. I'm starting to get a little frustrated with Yogi. I think he needs to take his ego down a notch or three. I really do hope you guys win it all...I respect Spain, but they are boring as all hell to watch. At least Italy has some character/s. On top of that, Pirlo has become one of my favorite players. I have a ton of respect for that guy. He clearly loves the game, he's a great teammate, he's clutch, and I dont' recall ever seeing him take a dive (which I think disrespects the game). I also have a lot of admiration for Buffon. He's another class act.
  5. Happy Birthday, Brother Bill!!!!
  6. Well that was pathetic. Congrats, Meazza. I hope you guys win it all
  7. When I think about a 64-team playoff, I think about March Madness. Most years, I don't want a SINGLE regular season college basketball game. But you know what? The minute I start seeing talk about brackets and seeding, I start getting fired up. I don't know a single player (most of the time), no clue about which match-up favors who, I don't know a damn thing. But the idea of a massive tourney gets me excited, and I pay attention. I almost always watch at least some of the Final Four games, and then I will typically always watch all or part of the championship game. And I know a LOT of people who are like me. Now if you apply this same 64-team bracket to college football, the excitement level will be off the charts. You'll have the entire country tuning in to watch that and EVERYONE will be talking about it. Not only that, but you'll have sixty-four teams with a chance to EARN the national championship, just like it's supposed to be. Mike Leach is a genius.
  8. I hope it's sufficiently different than the Schwartzenegger film. I can't stand these remakes that are basically the same film re-made 20 years later (e.g. Footloose)
  9. #10 Cassano = pansy ass diver
  10. Well, it's that time, Meazza...you're one of my favorite people on TBD, but for the next two hours you're a SUMBITCH!!!! DOWN WITH THE AZZURRI!!!!!! HEIL HITL, errrrrr GO GERMANY!!!!
  11. We have so many players on D who are "poised for a breakout season" that we may be the first defense to KILL a guy.
  12. I remember that...that could be an interesting story line for sure.
  13. YES, more Hank!! I always find his character very interesting...I'd like to see him more involved this season.
  14. I agree with the coach for sure. Would have been nice to have at least 8, but clearly it's moving things in the right direction.
  15. There are only two people in the world who could do something that amazing...Tim Tebow and Chuck Norris.
  16. When I think about the Walt vs Jesse thing, I think back over the first four seasons and just can't imagine how Jesse can even play in the same ballpark as Walt. Walt has exhibited true mastermind tendencies, with the S4 finale being the culmination of his brilliance. It's not a fair fight as it stands...Jesse would need a partner in crime who can level the playing field a bit more in terms of the cerebral mis-match. They have an odd relationship because at certain times they act as if they care about each other like family, and then at other times they couldn't care less if the other one dropped dead. I definitely feel that Gilligan has lots of interesting raw materials to work with here and I really can't wait to see what goes down...I just think I won't be that bothered at all if S5 ends up not being as good as the previous seasons. I don't remember ever feeling that way about a tv show, but I still remember exactly how it felt in my gut as I watched the scene in that nursing home go down...just amazing, amazing television. I need to see that for sure....thanks for letting us know. I actually can't wait to watch all of S4 again...I'll just fast forward through the parts with Skylar and her nutball sister lol Yep, even if he was able to develop the season overall in a way that could rival past seasons, there's just no way in hell he could equal, let alone top, the S4 finale. That's sort of why I'm looking at these upcoming shows as a curtain call, so to speak, and I'm fine with that.
  17. I'm not sure I understand how college football makes college NOT about education? People can go to school for whatever they want regardless of the fact that these major football programs exist, can't they? I honestly used to rarely pay any attention to college ball whatsoever but I've really come to enjoy it. I'm interested in the the point you're making, though, so maybe you can expound on it a bit? Maybe I don't understand what you're saying.
  18. Okay Mark, you know I value your opinion...it's not a money issue, it's a comfort issue. I've been on FMLA until just recently and have severe chronic back pain...I just don't have a lot of tolerance for those movie seats unless the film really holds my attention. Prometheus probably wouldn't need to hit the same threshold with me as it would others, cause aliens are my "shiny things" and it doesn't take a lot to get me to full retard status.
  19. I HATED the fact that college didn't have a playoff. I've always thought it was completely stupid how the figured a national champion and felt I'd become a much bigger fan of college ball with a playoff system in place. That being said, clearly this is not a perfect solution, but it's a step in the right direction and I'm thrilled with the news. I'd much rather be wrong about the 5th place team than I would the 3rd place one...this gets us one step closer to truly deciding it on the field instead of letting some computer nerd figure out the best "formula". I don't really like that they're waiting until 2014, especially since they're using the existing bowl structure...don't see why they can't start it next year. Maybe in 2026 they can finally go to an 8-team playoff
  20. I don't know if anyone feels similarly, but I thought the S4 finale was SO damn satisfying that I consider S5 nothing more than just bonus time. I'm not concerned at all about how good this season ends up being because I really can't imagine Gilligan doing anything to top last year. Combine that with the fact that it wasn't really guaranteed we'd have a S5 at all, so this is all just icing to me.
  21. Oh okay, I figured she'd have a more prominent role. Fassbender is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I have yet to see anything he's done where he wasn't excellent. Just recently, he was great in A Dangerous Method, Shame, and the most recent X-Men film. So that's two movies that I was likely going to see at the theater...Prometheus and Rock of Ages...but I'll probably just wait for Batman before I hit the big screen again. Going to see that one opening night or the following day.
  22. I can't even tell you how disappointed I am to hear that, especially given that Ridley Scott is involved. There are an awful lot of people who seem to echo your comments, so I think I may take that advice and wait to watch it on Vudu or bluray in a few months. I don't have to ask about M.Fassbender, cause he gives a great performance in every role, but how did Charlize do? Seems like the few clips I've seen of her she seems to be overacting a little. Was she the right choice for the female lead?
  23. I'm trying not to read the parts you guys identify as spoilers, but I do have a question: When you guys talk about plot holes, are these the sort of plot holes that fall into the category of "things that could be addressed in a future sequel/prequel", or are they aspects of the plot that just make no sense at all? Please answer in general terms for those - like me - who haven't seen the film yet.
  24. This is just a shot in the dark, but you didn't happen to know a Jason Rizzo from Hilton, did you? And that sounds like you've had a very interesting situation! I used to wonder what I would do if I ever met and fell in love with a woman from another country. England would be a great location for someone like myself since there are many aspects of their culture that appeal to me...was it a tough adjustment for you at all in terms of your career goals and/or cultural factors?
