Good point, and therein lies one of the ironic aspects to this situation in light of Chef Jim's comments: I would bet the house that if faced with a situation where some outside threat was putting the kids at risk, it would be very clear that she's not "weak" at all. I've seen that sort of mentality quite a lot with her demographic and those who are older. When it comes to "protecting their young", so to speak, they'd throw down in a heartbeat to do exactly that. And probably those four "tough guys" would shart all over themselves, not having any idea what to do.

I work with the elderly on a daily basis and can honestly say that a large majority of the little ladies who are my patients would be scared sh*tless if four teenagers started ganging up on her threatening to stab her with knives and whatever else they said. Even if your mom is like Danny Trejo in "Badass", I just don' understand where all the vitriol towards this woman comes from. After all, it was the KIDS who recorded her...

Exactly. Nobody is saying that a military vet in need or a child with cancer is less important than some woman who gets harassed by some snotty nosed kids.

My point is that obviously the only reason she's gotten this much attention and this many donations is because of how many people became aware of the story. The amount of money raised isn't a function of how important people feel the issue is...it's a function of the degree of awareness in terms of the number of people who heard about the situation. People seem to be reacting to the amount of money raised in comparison to what other charitable options may receive (or don't receive), and that has nothing to do with it at all.

There are clearly more important causes out there, but it's absurd to view the success of this fundraiser as a value judgement of some sort. I've heard this discussed on talk radio at least three times in the last 24 hrs, so it's pretty obvious that the amount of money raised is a function of awareness, nothing more. I keep seeing people talking about how it's ridiculous that people donate to the bus monitor but not to the girl who has cancer or some other more serious situation. C'mon, people.

That was lame...I don't know what to think. After game one I thought for sure the Thunder would pretty much handle these blowhards...tonight was a disgrace.

Michael Ballack made an interesting point on the broadcast today...he said that he expected Germany to have more of a mixture of starters and reserves, whereas to date it's been primarily the starting 11 that have gotten nearly all of the playing time. Clearly that indicates solid confidence on the part of the coach, so I feel pretty good about that. I don't think Greece needs to even show up tomorrow, but the following match will certainly be of interest! Meazza: I think it would be a lot of fun to have Germany and Italy meet...I'd watch every second of that one

I'm pretty sure Germany and Portugal can only meet in the finals. After we lay waste to Greece, we play the winner of Italy/England I think.
