I wasn't going to watch this season since the show seems to be more directed at a younger audience, but I was pretty entertained last night. The show feels appreciably different than Idol and as you said, there were some very impressive performances. I think Britney is boring as hell, but Demi Lovato is hilarious. I had no idea she had such a great personality...she was a perfect choice for the show. Simon seems to have found his "bite" that he lost last season, so that was refreshing...flat out calling one girl "annoying" and the former boyband kid as "the one guy in a five member boy band who doesn't sing" lol. My top two acts were Janelle Garcia and Emblem 3. I have no interest in watching the Voice, but I'll keep watching X.

Jerry "The King" Lawler collapses at WWE event
ajzepp replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'll have to find a video of that lol. My favorite memory of the King was when he had a series of cage matches vs the Macho Man pre-WWE. King was in his prime and Macho was just entering it...truly an epic match-up. Macho hit a flying elbow off the top of the cage that was even more impressive than the classic Superfly Snuka leap onto the belly of Don Muraco. -

Takes a long time to get 200 teams down to just 32 for tourney.
-
If Donovan gets his head out of his arse and stops whining about how the game isn't exciting for him anymore, this could really be a potent team. 2014 will be the first world cup where I will EXPECT them to win at least a game or two in the knockout round. This team is talented, and with several of them having the opportunity to refine their game abroad, and with Klinsmann in charge, there should just be no excuse to not have a solid showing.

WOW, what a goal!!! Doesn't surprise me at all that it was Gomez who scored it....the guy was just tearing it up in the part of the match I saw. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1156992/u.s.-men-avenge-jamaica-loss-on-gomez-goal?cc=5901

I didn't see him when I was watching, but I only saw about 15 mins....a couple of new guys were out there, though....Zosi or something like that. Saw Dempsey, Gomez, Bonehead Bocanegra....dont remember seeing Bradley.

This is maddening! We're completely dominating them but can't get the ball in the net. They absolutely RAPED Gomez in the box (that sounds bad) and the announcers and the fans were screaming for a PK, but the damn refs....then their keeper makes two back to back saves that were just SICK...and since then we've just been unlucky. I have to say, I was questioning Klinsi's decision to go with Gomez over Altidore, cause I'm a fan of Jozy, but based on tonights efforts Id say Hercules has earned it. His timing is fantastic and his set pieces have been stellar. Jamaica's luck will run out soon at this pace, no doubt.

Funny, I've mentioned my experience with Discount Tires to a few people today (in addition to posting it here) and others have echoed the same sentiment. Apparently this is a company that really deserves some recognition for the way they treat their customers...kudos to them! GoBills78, Im with you on DTV....I've had great service from them, as well. Tons better than the experience I had with dish.

Excellent customer service is near and dear to my heart since it's such a large part of what I do. I tend to get very frustrated when colleagues don't provide something close to the same level of service that I provide, just as I will always recognize those who go out of their way to meet or exceed it. Naturally this carries over to when I'm on the other side of things, as a consumer. I have low expectations for customer service typically, and I am a very patient and understanding person for the most part, but when it's either exceptional or very poor it will certainly impact my overall view of a company/individual. That being said, I thought it would be interesting to hear some examples of the best and worst customer service you guys have experienced as consumers. I thought of this after just getting home from one of the absolute BEST experiences Ive ever had. I blew a tire on the way home from work this weekend, which really came at a bad time since I'm just getting back to work from extended medical leave. Yesterday I called a place called Discount Tires, which I think is a national chain, and made an appointment. The guy on the phone was pretty helpful and cordial, which I appreciated. So anyway I'm driving over on my bubble tire and a prayer, I pull into the parking spot, and head in the door. The SECOND I walk through the door there is a tech who comes over and says, "mazda...you have a 2:30 appointment, right sir?" I told him I did, he promptly took my keys and said, "we'll get right on it." I stood in line for a minute while the rep was finishing up another customer. The guy pulls up my info from yesterdays phone call, confirms the tire I wanted, and asks if I'd like to go ahead and pay now. I pay the bills, he shakes my hand and says it will only be a few minutes if I'd like to have a seat. Literally less than ten minutes later the first guy comes driving up along the curb right outside the lobby, comes in to give me my keys, hands me my warranty paperwork, and I'm on my way. The entire ordeal took all of about 15 minutes from the time I walked into the door until the time I drove away. Needless to say, I was pretty damn happy with how I was treated today... Please feel free to chime in with your experiences, good or bad...

Did Chan pull the plug too early On Vince Young?

I'll take Tavaris over VY any day. I just hope TJax has been on a crash course learning our offense....if Fitz has one more bad game, I'm ready to make the change NOW. This is ridiculous. -
DAMMIT, Ralph....wtf?? If we had hired Marty we'd have a stable-but-unspectacular veteran QB, killer running game, stout D, and we'd be in the playoff hunt. As I've said before, Marty is the Larry Brown of the NFL...he may not be winning championships but he'll straighten up the franchise, make them competitive, and put them in position to take some shots. I thought we didn't hire Marty cause he was wanting to stay retired....this really pisses me off.
-
I wanted Marty for the job the first time around and I'd love to see him come in here now.

Ive had an asssful of Fitzy...I hope TJax is able to pick up this offense quickly because if that's the sort of performance we're going to get out of Ryan - and he's been crap dating back to the middle of last year - Id rather just put TJax in there and add the dimensions of mobility and a stronger arm for Graham to take advantage of. Spilled looked great yesterday...I feel terrible for Freddy cause obviously he's a gamer, but riding CJ as the starter isn't a bad thing. I don't like the excuses, but it seems that there may be something to Marios claim about Howard's shots to the face. I can't understand how else a game changing defensive end could possibly be that useless. So hopefully this gets fixed and we'll start getting some return on our investment starting in week 2. Jairus Byrd and McLovin were terrible yesterday...Get well soon, Ron Brooks. I have no problem remaining optimistic...I learned how to just change the channel to the RedZone when the Bills start to play in a mannner that causes my blood pressure to go up. (I watched a lot of Red Zone yesterday.)

Wow, I forgot The Master comes out this month....I will definitely get out to the theaters for that one...what a fantastic cast and one of my favorite directors. Fairport's own, and my pick for top character actor of his generation, Phillip Seymour Hoffman rarely gives a less than stellar performance. He also makes very interesting choices in terms of the scripts he likes...some of his indy films have been among my favorites (e.g. Love Liza; Jack Goes Boating). And even though I won't likely see it at the theater, Looper is right up my alley...can't wait to see that one.

Who are your top 3 stand-up comedians and why
ajzepp replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I love hearing Saget tell stories about how people would come to his shows expecting the character from Full House...and then how they walked out in disgust when he started talking about f'ing and genitalia lol. -

On the topic of jerks, I'll also say that Thurman, Leonard Smith, and Kirby Jackson were all great guys to deal with in person. I worked at Tony Romas back in the early 90s and they filmed a couple episodes of Thurman's show there. We also organized a rib eating contest with some of the team members. These three couldn't have been cooler, IMO.

Definitely read the Stranger, like JR said...ever since I read that book and had some lectures on existentialism back at Temple U, I've always found it pretty fascinating. -
