Mine usually is, as well. either Toronto has the coolest (i.e. nicest) cops on the planet, or I just hit a good stretch, cause Ive been stopped a bunch of times on the QEW and they are always as nice as can be. Of course, it's been almost 20 years since Ive been up there, but back in the 90s they were great. And the tripod thing would make more sense to me....unless they have to keep adjusting for height, but if it's a constant height shot then I would imagine that's much more stable than aiming it like this guy did.

Herm Edwards...Somebody please explain?
ajzepp replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like Herm. -
I'd say being dead is a little more than being in trouble.

Or it might be the fact that it is held like a gun, that you "shoot the vehicle" (per Ghost) like a gun, that the officer is in a stance as if he's firing a gun, that it's even CALLED a gun, and that some people aren't accustomed to having people aim guns at them. BTW, here is a pic of about how the cop was holding it....add in more of a firing stance and that will give an idea of what I saw. http://ddq74coujkv1i...AR-dw-285x2.jpg And here is a pic of what I typically have seen: http://media.northjersey.com/images/300*231/MC_McGovern_1112_gz_tif_.jpg

Interesting...so is that even feasible when you have multiple lanes of moderately high volume traffic? Are you guys trained to use them as a visible deterrent at times? And have you ever heard of people (aside from me) taking issue with how it looks?

Video Game Virgin: What's the first game you remember playing?
ajzepp replied to Fezmid's topic in Off the Wall Archives
My first memory is of something called "Odyssey", too...not sure if it's the same thing you're talking about, but this one had these plastic-like films that went over the tv that had images on them. Like one was a haunted house and the lights on the screen would correspond with rooms in the house. I dont remember how it all went, but that's my earliest memory. My most vivid early memory was going home with an Atari 2600 in hand with the game space invaders. I played that for hours and hours...freaked out the first time I flipped it. I suck at video games now, but I was a monster on that 2600. -
I dont want to see her get taken out, just punched really hard. Maybe Jax's woman can just haul off and deck her with that cast. Or better yet, get Drea to go all Sopranos on her. She just needs someone to take her back down a couple notches then she'll be fine.

Another Reason to Not Like Brady
ajzepp replied to It's in My Blood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would take that challenge in a heartbeat....but I'd want to add the stipulation that I get to deliver a hit a week later after I recover -
Of course, but what Im saying is that this wasn't a situation where I sat there and pondered it...you can't help how you react sometimes, and that's what it was - a reaction. I completely agree that the chances of me actually getting shot at on the highway are very slim, but when you all of a sudden come upon someone who is aiming something at you that resembles a gun, it can give you a jolt.
-
Nothing "escalated"....it was a gut reaction...lasted about five seconds until I figured out what was going on, and then it was over. lol...exactly...I guess it really is how they're trained then.

WHAT?? They're already into the NEXT season??? wtf?? lol

I wish I could have had this happen with a typical looking patrol car since I think that was the variable that took it from "cop on the road with radar" to "holy crap, some guy aiming a gun at traffic". There was just no visual cue in that short amount of time to clue my brain into the fact that it was a cop. I'd be interested to see if I would have reacted the same without that unknown, and where the vehicle was one I recognized. HOnestly though, I can't even see how this technology is feasible with that time frame given Atlanta traffic. Even when I drive in at 11am, there is still quite a bit of congestion. The only real difference is that there is more flow than there is at 8am. And again, to echo Lana's comment, I'm more supportive and understanding of law enforcement than many people I know....I didn't like how this went down at all, but I'm not meaning this to come off as anti-cop at all.
-
Yeah, cause people never do crazy things with guns...especially not in a large metro are with a high crime rate. lol...that's more what I'm used to...not quite to that extent, but when I was back in WNY I don't ever remember them being all dramatic with the radar gun.
-
I'm fine with them using the thing....just pull back on the dirty harry.
-
I'd be happy if he could just not be in front of a vaguely marked police vehicle....the thing didn't have any lights on top of it and it was dark blue...and he was standing in front of the passengers door so I couldn't even see where it said "State Patrol" or whatever....it really wouldn't take that much effort (i.e. common sense) to prevent me from having a coronary on the interstate.
-
So there's no other way to properly aim than to get out of your car, spread your legs, crouch down, and aim it like a gun? That is very hard to beleive.
-
LOL! If that ever happens to me, I'm writing a letter...honestly who comes up with this stuff?
-
Yep, there's no arguing it's a hell of a ride...at some point you'd think the price of business was getting a bit to high, though, you know?
-
Yeah, I imagine the recoil on that baby is pretty badass So this is their training then? I dont' remember ever seeing this nonsense before...why in the hell they would train them to do this is beyond me. I would bet good money that sooner or later someone is goign to put their car in the wall or something similar.

Driving to work today, I was infuriated with what this one cop was doing on the side of the highway. I'm a very vigilant driver and I have never been the cause of an accident in my life. So I'm driving in the 3rd lane from the right on a 6 lane expressway (85 South for those in Atlanta) just minding my own business, listening to Colin Cowherd on the radio, and getting my day off to a good start. I happen to look over to the right, and the first thing I THINK I'm seeign is someone with a gun and in a shooter's stance getting ready to fire off a shot. In actuality it was some idiot cop with a radar gun. Is there some reason why these people need to be so damn dramatic with the radar checks???? Honestly, I damn near reacted so reflexively that I almost swerved a bit into an adjacent lane. it startled the hell out of me and I was NOT happy to see that it was just a donut eater with a radar gun. And for the record, I'm respectful and appreciative of the work that the police do 98% of the time. Well, maybe 95%. But this whole production was entirely unneccesary, IMO. Has anyone else seen this sort of behavior?

I'm still recovering from episode one of this season....the scene with Pope and tig's daughter was just brutal....I'm almost shocked that they allowed that to be shown. It's pretty rare that I see something on tv/cable that impacts me like that, but it just made me sick to my stomach. I'm a bit torn about this season so far...on the one hand the intensity level is already through the roof....on the other hand it just seems like these guys get into the same types of problems over and over, just with different groups. I've always liked jenna, but so far this season Im often hoping someone just pops her in the face. She's become uber annoying. Loved seeing my girl Drea Di Mateo last night....she was looking great!

Madonna endorses Obama LOL

+1 Or when these dbags threaten that they're going to move out of the US if the person they want to win the election doesn't win...it's just asinine. Celebrities seem to be incredulous when they're presented with the evidence that the average American doesn't see things as they do. I love music, film, and sports....but when these morons put themselves up upon a pedestal it becomes nauseating. I guess when you spend you're entire life knowing that so many millions of "fans" hang on every word you say and want to know details about the length and stench of your most recent sh*t, you perhaps can't help but have the impression that everyone else cares just as much...fortunately that's just simply not true. -
It's a Quarterback driven league
ajzepp replied to DanInUticaTampa's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you and I are in the minority in that sentiment....I prefer that sort of game, too....I love watching a dominant defense where they make the offense just struggle for every yard, let alone every score. That's why I dont often criticize RJ....in that Titans playoff game, the guy left his balls on the field. Kearse and that Titans D were tough as nails, and we had to scratch and claw our way to points. The intensity was through the roof from my perspective. -

I don't see where Dan was saying that, actually. Maybe it's just me, but the most annoying posts on here lately are the ones where people pop in and say, "there's no point in discussing this"
